Coming from a former aircraft nondestructive inspector
We would do Magnetic particle inspections (Mag testing) x-rays ultrasounds etc
Mag testing basically just means they are magnetizing the bar and putting iron particles on it to test for cracks, corrosion, and other defects throughout the metal.
For x-ray all there doing is x-raying the bar to ensure there are no defects inside the bar like pitting, corrosion, or other defects from the manufacturer.
Pretty cool they do this actually not really necessary for a power bar because it's not under as much stress as like an aircraft or a gun or anything like that but nice to know they are putting it under more thorough inspections prior to selling.
    And always... stay big

Brandon thanks for reviewing this bar. I used one years ago and loved it. I am that audience that is interested in build quality. It’s because I’m old. Once you young whippersnappers pass 60, you will find you are less willing to compromise on everything. You want quality. I’m ordering one today. Thanks again.

I totally feel you on the vintage culture points.
I have a very large and complete set of Ivanko Rubo plates and I love them. I also have a black oxide Ivanko Rackable Curl Bar and your description of the sleeve tolerance and build quality is spot on. Definitely a notch above many readily available modern bars.
I still personally give the nod to the Aggro 2x from Rogue for its price point, stainless build and what I consider exceptional knurling.
However, everyone has their particular combination of features they gravitate towards so it is a personal choice for sure.

I was lucky enough to come across a vintage ob84 which was the original ob20kg and it's one of my favorites to lift on. Deep knurl, and the black oxide is holding up suprisingly well for it's age. It's just a bit on the whippy side for heavy stuff being 28mm and the collars are further out than a normal bar. As I understand the 29mm obx20kg in black oxide is relatively new as before they only had the 28mm version or the 29mm stainless version. Im glad someone has finally reviewed it because I've been somewhat interested in it, thank you

I bought an Ivanko OB-20KG black oxide bar in 2011. Two crazy facts about this. #1. I paid $519.00 for the bar, and it's $550 today. You would have thought that inflation would have hit it harder than that? More importantly, I've used it most days for the past 11 years, and it is perfect. The sleeves aren't as dark as the bar, but certainly aren't scratched and look great. It's beautiful.

I own an Ivanko OBX-20Kg bar that rusted horribly in my temperature controlled basement while sitting right next to a cheap Cap ob barbell when I contacted Ivanko they said what did you expect it's made of steel when I told them the collars didn't spin any more and I thought they should fix it they said ship it to us (at my cost) and they would let me know what it cost to fix. I asked if they would fix it free and I pay shipping. The son of the founder said no. When I told them about my cap bar staying perfect at 1/5th. the price under the identical conditions and I was disappointed they were taking such a hard stance he told me he didn't like my attitude. Don't buy this barbell at a similar price buy an Eleiko or American barbell or save money and buy Rogue.

The inner mechanism is high quality brass for medical. It gets used everyday. Over time it's wore down and has become sloppy and the tolerances have widened. I'm going to look at needle bearing bars. Although that's a really nice bar, I'm looking for less maintenance and great machining.

Needle bearings have too much spin for powerlifting, so not ideal for this use case.

I love my Rogue Stainless Ohio Power Bar. It is my best barbell, but I only have two with the other being an Rogue Echo Bar for landmine use and deadlifts (no center knurling). My third barbell will be a deadlift bar when my deadlift weight gets high enough. I may get a Rogue stainless Ohio Bar and sell my Echo bar. Not a fan of zinc coatings on barbells. Of course I do have specialty bars, but don't count those.

There is def a contingency of those who hate all things Rogue, but I think they offer some of the best value/quality for the money.

Very cool bar. Really like the end caps. What a cool classic look. But in Ca where I live $6 gas and having to commute means no nice high end bars for me. I will stick with my boneyard Ohio power bar.

Great review.. your power barbell reviews are like the Saturday morning cartoons I used to watch back in the day, couldn't wait. Awesome input on the power bar, only if the knurls would be sharper. Again top notch review 👍

Awesome review, looks like you had a lot of fun with this one as well! I don't need one, but I want one, may have to wait for their next sale and grab a piece of lifting history. Thanks Brandon.

Yeah some of these things are harder to do in the past. Have had so many bars they start to blend together and it's harder to be impressed.

I think I have that bar but if not the 28mm... I got it used didn't bother breaking out the calipers to measure the bar shaft but I think it's 29mm.. I like the fact that mine is aggressive but where the knurl starts and ends is little off on my bar (I have multiple markings too like three per hand and they're different widths).... Also was an excellent condition originally but it tends to spot rust in my 5 years of ownership and I'm a basement gym dweller with controlled heat and AC so I don't like the durability so I would lean to the stainless version if you're considering this... Considering the retail price point and other offerings I'd say they were left behind... Now the end caps and the lack of tolerance on the sleeves is really good... My examples just a bit of a bummer but yours looks like it's on point but I'm not going to complain because it was a really good deal.

Yeah if it has multiple ring marks than it's more than likely the 28mm version!

@@BasementBrandon just checked it is 28mm no idea what those extra ring marks are for (edited to correct a typo)
