  • Hello, Readers, and thank you so much for stopping by the channel!!
I have owned the Kindle Oasis (2019 version) for just over a year now, and thought I’d share my thoughts and feelings in case it might help you decide if the Kindle Oasis, or the Kindle Paperwhite, might be for YOU! (I used a Kindle Paperwhite for YEARS, and loved it!)
If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments below. And if you love (or hate) your Kindle, I’d love to hear from you!!
    Happy reading,
    Susan @ Road Reads

Just found your channel and subscribed. Great video on the Oasis, Susan. I have owned nearly every version of the Kiindle since it first came out. (Didn’t own the DX or the Voyage) I love my Oasis, too. I still have a Paperwhite that is several years old as a backup to the Oasis. I am envious of people who have the most recent Oasis because of the warm light option. I sympathize with people trying to decide on the new Paperwhite vs the latest Oasis. For the price, the new Paperwhite has a lot going for it at a lower price than the Oasis. Unlike a lot of people, I like the buttons on the Oasis. The bigger bezel on the button side keeps my fingers away from accidentally initiating the page forward function. I bought the 32gb version and filled it nearly half full with hundreds of Kindle books. I just like having all my books at my fingertips instead of having to download them when I want to read them.

Oh wow! That’s a lot of books - awesome!
You’re right about the current tough choice between the 3rd Gen Oasis and the new 2021 Paperwhite. I love my oasis but since the new Paperwhite has the warm light at a fraction (!) of the cost, I think for many, the new 8 gb Paperwhite makes good sense. Unless, like you, they want to have all their books on the device, which means you’ll need 32 gb, and then the cost difference is much less significant.

Nice video. I agree with a lot of what you have said. I have the latest Oasis and absolutely love it. The screen real estate is just perfect for getting into a book and the warm light feature you mentioned is good for reading at nighttime. I was tempted by the new Paperwhite coming out this week but I feel that's not required until my current Kindle dies. I also have a Kobo Clara HD for ePub books, so I have the best of both worlds.

I own two Paperwhite Kindles (Kindles 5 & 6). I'm planning on getting the newest one in January. I get mine with the ad(s). The ad(s) are only on the open front. Once you swipe to open the book you're reading, or your library, there are no ads. No ads pop up while reading. I've been reading on Kindle for years. Thank goodness because my vision sucks and I just can't read real books any longer. I do still have my favorites on my book shelves. My on and off button is not easily bumped on and off, I've never had an issue. My newest Kindle's battery lasts good and charges super fast. I have 8 gigs on mine and I have 500 books! I use my 32 gig iPhone for audio books. I love my Kindle and would be lost without it.

Hi Susan , I’m new to your channel and this is the first video of yours I’ve watched. In fact, I watched it twice. I like your explanation of why you like your Oasis and would be very interested in your second video, detailing your settings, etc.
I’ve had Kindles since their first one ( the big clunky white one) , and have traded up several times. I currently have the same Oasis as you, plus their last PW . I like the size of the PW more, as far as comfort in holding it and the flatness of the back. The Oasis with the uneven back sorta bugs me , but it is definitely faster to respond , and the page turn buttons are very handy.
I have used my devices to read on most of the time lately , as my eyes aren’t what they used to be , so adjusting the print size has been great. Once you get used to reading with these small devices, books feel really heavy and clunky.
Looking forward to seeing your second video on this topic , and will go watch some of your others now too.
    Thank you .

I love my kindle paperwhite. I pop it in my handbag and it's like a security blanket. I'm ready for any delay and don't have to lug around a book and worry about bending the cover or pages. I'm so sad, I must have my books in pristine condition. Love this video. If I'm in the mood I sort my downloaded books into collections but it gets fiddley if you don't do it when you buy the ebook as there a bit of box ticking to go through when I dont keep on top of it. I read on my kindle in the summer mostly as I love sitting in the shade and reading outside. 📚🤗❤😍

Just in case you’re wondering, the reason that it doesn’t have color is that it’s an ink-based device, not a light-based as most screens. It deposits a tiny glob of ink at each spot that is required and what’s complicated is having different colored ink. So it’s not really about color being more expensive, it’s that the technology is not yet available

A dictionary is very useful! I was reading Hamnet in a paper form and I had to stop and get a copy in French because there were too many words I didn’t understand! I’m sure if I had read it on my Kobo ereader I would have been able to keep on reading it in English using the dictionary. I can’t read on my Ipad either. And loving that I can throw it in my purse and always have something to read on hand. Color would be nice too… new Kobo can support audiobook… maybe I’ll switch to that and give my current device to my husband.🤔 I won’t give up on real books but it’s a fun option especially when my old eyes are tired at night. 😉

    • @RoadReads
      @RoadReads  2 года назад +1

I’m not sure if the Kobo has this, but the Kindle has “word wise,” which when turned on, gives the definitions of words (right there on the reading screen) that they think the reader may be unfamiliar with. For readers whose first language is English, “word wise” is not necessary, but when I tested it out, I thought it’d be awesome for someone whose first language wasn’t English.
And, yes, I am a big believer in giving our “old” devices to our husbands. 😂

e-Readers are still complimentary to books. They cannot replace a library quite yet. There are still several books, some very famous works, that have not made the transition from book to e-book. I don't even come close to being a casual reader and I've had a hard time finding e-book versions from authors like Yukio Mishima, Junichiro Tanizaki, and Milan Kundera. I was kinda surprised to not see their works be available digitally. In other instances, even when they are available as e-books, they're full of formatting errors, which makes them almost unreadable. Therefore, I cannot recommend going all-digital with any kind of e-reader.
I have a large comic book collection from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo, and - just like audiobooks - graphic-intensive files are larger in size than an e-book. I've already filled up a 32GB Kindle Oasis 3 and an 8GB Nook GlowLight 3 Plus with Japanese comic books/graphic novels. Just like with reading e-books using a computer or tablet screen, reading comic books on those screens also strains the eyes. I've found the e-reader to be the perfect device for black-and-white comic books.
e-Readers not only make me spend less on books and comic books (I wouldn't say "save money" in this instance, since I am still spending some money on the digital files), but they do save physical space. If these digital files were physical books, I would probably have a room or two full of wall-to-wall books and comic books! Real estate here in coastal Southern California is too pricey for that kind of thing!
