I love the campy Batman so much more than dark and brooding Batman. Especially since the movies forget how compassionate Batman is. (Seems like only the animated series really remembers that Batman holds out hope that everyone, even the Joker, can be rehabilitated.) I didn't have cable as a kid so a lot of my favorite shows were reruns of older stuff like Batman, Star Trek, I Love Lucy, etc. And, in fact, Frank Gorshin's Riddler was one of my first childhood crushes, right after Mr. Spock.

      From the Batman wiki:
But as West told Jeff Rovin in Back to the Batcave, "I loathed the word 'camp.' It demeaned our efforts by suggesting that what we were working hard to achieve was so corny or easy or bad that anybody could do it. We just made it look that way." He always stressed that what they were doing was farce, a lampoon, and deliberately intended as comedy.

It's a good mix of being semi-serious while also still being campy and light-hearted; it pays homage to the 1960s Batman and Batman TAS. Can't people accept the best of both worlds, both the 1960's batman and every other dark and brooding batman after that. There's a fine line between hardcore fans and fans who just aren't that obsessed. And your right it's a fun, colorful that we all grew up with. For me what raised the bar was the episode beware of the gray ghost, from the batman animated series in the 1990's I saw it as a passing of the torch from Adam West to Kevin Conroy.

    • @rodh1404

I agree. Adam West was a fine actor and the Batman TV series was a product of it's time that deserves to be remembered as such. I saw this movie on TV. I loved it!
Cesar Romero refused to shave his mustache, so, I grew up with a Joker with a white mustache poking through face paint.
When Eartha Kitt assumed the role of Catwoman, the relationship between Bats and Catwoman changed. This Catwoman had no romantic designs on the Caped Crusader. She wanted to get rid of him. The powers to be in that era weren't progressive enough to promote an interracial flirtation. The network was probably afraid of losing air time in more conservative areas of the country. I personally enjoyed both versions of Catwoman. I was especially fond of the way Ms. Kitt would purr her lines. She also moved with the grace of a cat. Ms. Newmar gave the character a lot of elegance. She knew how to strut in those high heels, and those gloves with the cat claws, Chef's Kiss!
The film Batman Forever definitely went back to its campy TV series roots. The Riddler wears three or four different outfits in the film. Jim Carey really taps into his comedic chops as The Riddler.

Batman comics were darker in tone in the comics before the series. I always heard that the campy series was made as a satire, and was greenlit because the comic was going to kill off the Batman character due to poor comic sales, but due to the success of the series the comics shifted to reflect the same tone and energy as the series. A similar situation occurred when the gimmick character Mr. Freeze was killed off in the comics until Bruce Timm reintroduced the character with a more compelling background for Batman TAS, which the comics adapted later as well.

I wished this movie had a sequel and to me the Bat Boat was the best vehicle in the movie. Plus it was a pleasure hearing the movie score while you did this video.

This movie came out when I was 7 years old. My cousin and I collected soda pop bottles and turned them in to get enough to see this movie at a matinee viewing. I've seen it on TV many times. The shark still looks fake.

    • @LadyOnikara
      @LadyOnikara 2 года назад

Probably couldn't get a real shark because of some union thing. Sharks back then insisted on being paid a certain amount and would not take any less than that no matter what.

Watched this movie again for Christmas time last year, because I was home sick with a cold. Had to go back and review this video by one of my favorite Flim secrets gurus! Terrific job, Minty! Cat woman being the leader of the gang of crooks quite surprised me! This movie certainly had some creative ideas and fun slapstick! Also that Red Batman poster actually looks very similar to one of my toys from the 90s, talk about a funny coincidence!

I was a child with this movie was released and for my friends and I it was the cinematic event of the year. We couldn't wait to see it and were in our seats in the theatre the day it opened.
I also had my first adult stirrings about the opposite sex while watching Catwoman, all three of them although Julie Newmar was my favorite. After Emma Peel of course.
And this movie still has the coolest Batmobile.

I loved for Batman as a kid! It was watching this movie, the bit with the shark, when the penny dropped and I turned to my parents in shock and said, “I’ve just realised: this isn’t actually serious is it?!”

Ironically, when Bob Kane originally dreamed up Batman, he imagined him in a red costume. He was quickly talked out of it by Bill Finger.

I actually recently picked up a bunch of the action figure stuff from mcfarlane toys for this era of batman. I was able to get batman and robin (both of which come with sound effect balloons that clip to their wrists), got the batmobile, and the bat cave. if you're a fan of the 60s era of batman then I highly recommend these figures and playsets cause they are not that expensive either.

I remember watching the 1966 tv show with my dad. After every cliff hanger between part 1 and part 2 he would say "this could be the last one." We always had to tune in the same bat time, same bat channel, to make sure the dynamic duo escaped. I have used "this could be the last one" hundreds of times with my children and grandchildren.

They would play it at college once a semester, and it was a Rocky Horror type atmosphere :) The whole crowd (and theater was FULL) would go Da-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na Batman ! People dressed up, someone got up front before the start to deliver a welcome and a few historical tidbits. It was awesome.

When we got our first colour tv in the early 70's the first thing I couldn't wait to see was Batman. I cannot recall when I first saw the Batman movie but I'm sure I watched it every time it aired. But of all three actresses who played Catwoman in the series I am a devoted fan of Eartha Kitt as the character. It's a little disappointing to hear that we could have had a second movie, especially when it would have introduced Yvonne Craig as Batgirl. It's still fun to watch every so often. The two animated films were disappointing but it was nice to see (or rather hear) Mayor Adam West and Bort Ward in their roles.
