Well, I do like the color scheme (i believe the bezel insert could be better) and I like Seiko's watches but I am not that impressed by this one. Still a good watch but not really sure if I do want it. thanks for sharing, good video :)
I bought the SRPH11 Black Series Samurai and thankfully everything was spot on. Thanks for this video as there's no excuse for Seiko (whose products I love) to let these QC issues slide. Well done.
I'm surprised you didn't ask about Tesco...they have a 3X points deal with Goldsmiths so £50 in points becomes £150 towards a watch... On paper, I did not like the white dial.. until I tried it on...now I'm very impressed by it I just want to get them on the wrist pre- Black Friday !
Picked up one of these online this week brand new in Australia for £290. Cannot wait to get it. Hoping I avoid the dreaded Seiko misalignment issues. 🤞I haven’t even seen one in person yet but based on a few reviews, pushed the button.
Great review. I used to own the King samurai with the white waffle dial. Solid case and great looks, although the white dial exaggerated how big it was on my dark wrist. I’d like to see the Orient Tri-star review! 👍🏾
Excellent detailed review. I'm a big Samurai fan, I have the PADI version. This version looks amazing with its stunning textured ocean blue dial, with some swimming manga rays. I do think it looks good on your wrist Wes! I also think the price is good for what you get on this special edition save the ocean version King Samurai: an ISO certified divers watch, with a reliable in-house movement and a sapphire crystal. Just a great watch, that you captured really well on video 👌👏
@@WesWatchRoom my pleasure mate, I enjoy your videos! 😎 But IMO the in-house Seiko movements are amazing. My own PADI Samurai runs within a second a day and sounds perfect when hand winding! 👌 I’ve had other Turtles and Samurai with the 4R35 movement and all have been the same! 🙌 Now Seiko have fixed prices to stop sellers discounting, their watches seem overpriced - but it’s only because they were underpriced before!
Beautiful watch! Though, I never understood why some people wear their wrist watches so tight on their wrist and say, "it fits so comfortable". Lol. Also, if the crown is on the right of your watch it goes on your left hand. Great review either way, good job on pointing out important aspects of the piece that some people wouldn't know about. The seiko rocket was just about to line up just before the video stopped, one other very nice thing about these hands. Seiko-paths crew.
I have this watch and have exactly the same issue with the indices. Don’t see it now as everything else about the watch is gorgeous. I’ve put it on a Seiko steel bracelet which I love.
Mine is perfectly aligned. I think I was lucky. The watch is now under 500 euros in the Netherlands. Worth every cent in my opinion. I have also tried on the other two Mantas. This one is absolutely my favorite. The dial of the SRPE33K1 and the SRPE39K1 is much too blue for me. This dial is so beautiful in combination with the hands. The strap is really the bomb, wears wonderfully. Thanks for your video, it helped me make my choice
Not many watches have sapphire crystal and a ceramic bezel within that price range as far as I know , I think it's not super overpriced for what you get, these are the first samurais to do this, shame about the Qc though it's true.
Yeah, if you look at microbrand watches and the ones from china and you'll be surprised and how cheap ceramic and sapphire can be done. But for a seiko it is unusual to see so in that regards then I makes a little sense. Thanks for watching
You also get a true ISO water rating, and are paying for marketing and tiered distribution, my local jewelry store is an authorized Seiko dealer. Also t is the chapter ring out of line not the dial. Micro brands ride the coat tails of the major brands. I personally will pay a bit more for an original, maybe not the Rolex tax but a hundred or so is not out of line.
Have you ever been able to get a Seiko misalignment fixed by Seiko? I've had the same problem with 4 brand new Prospex models. I've sent them back and all Seiko said was :" it's not outside of our spec " Eventually had to pay a local watchmaker to get it fixed. Edit: one misalignment was approximately 3mm off. Still not bad enough i guess.
Ha liked the video forgot to comment my bad! 😅 Well I have to admit that I'm a samurai fanboy so I love it. But you're right at this kind of price point QC should be better. Still a great watch though! 😁
Just seen this review. Fair assessment. Got mine for £330 on bracelet. Alignment is spot on. Timekeeping is +2spd. Actually prefer this movement as the 6 series movement are very hit and miss. If you are put off by the price, go pre owned.,you'll grab a good example at half price.
I only notice the misalignment on the macro shots & don’t really see them on the smaller images but agree it should be better, strange as I’d have thought the faces were all stamped out by machine but it seems the indices must be hand placed! If thats the case I could let it go as long as they’re not too far out as it gives a kind of ‘hand built’ character to the piece! The cyclops here looks bang on to my eye, I think it’s just the shape of it that throws your eye! I’ve found one of these with a 15% discount & free returns so I’m gonna pull the trigger knowing it can go back if I’m not happy 😊
Update: Mines just arrived from FCW after I negotiated a 15% discount making it a little less overpriced. No alignment issues as mentioned on this video. All indices line up as does the bezel, which has a beautiful action as noted in video, but has 120 clicks so I guess they’ve upgraded (possibly to help eradicate any alignment issues) or could the one you reviewed possibly be a fake, especially given the other issues with it!? Currently running at about +1sec/day which I’m actually blown away with! Beautiful watch and well worth the £470 I paid from an authorised dealer.
I’ve must have been lucky with mine, as both the indesies and the cyclops are nicely aligned.. but my bezel is classic Seiko 🥴 Other than that gorgeous watch, love it!
I still can't decide between this, the New PADI in black and turquoise and King Seiko white. Because of the QC issues I'm going to buy from a dealer over Black Friday.... Or use my Tesco Vouchers to get a massive discount !
I was searching the SRPF79J1 instead of SRPF79K1, where J stands for fully Japan made ones instead of K, which says that it’s made somewhere china/Taiwan/Malaysia. So this K on your watch may the reason why those issues with cyclope and induces are there…
I agree about the price. Too much. Retailing for 550 quid. If 110 quid were knocked off, it would cost around what you suggest. The point is that it does, because we seem to forget a colossal sales tax called VAT, which stifles what could be a consumer driven economy to avoid recessions and keep the economy ticking. VAT is 20%. If something is marked up at 500 quid, we have to pay 600 quid. When looking for watches I look for significant discounts that will offset the VAT. Though there is still VAT on the discount.
Hey guys, what do you think of the Samurai, I have mixed feelings about it as you'll see in the video. Enjoy and have a great day.

Great review. I love my samurai save the ocean. I was wearing it today.

Absolutely, I would be more understanding if it was a seiko 5 but an expensive prospex is not really on. Glad yours is good.

Awesome watch mate, I definitely have to pick this one up sometime. Great shots, nicely explained everything about it.
It really is mate, not perfect but still great. Thanks very much

Hey Mr. Budget! Just subscribed... love the Seiko!
Thank you, appreciate that and I really like it too
I’m so close to picking up the Turtle version of this watch. Extremely comfortable and beautiful watch.!
That's great, Turtles are brilliant watches, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
That's a real good looking watch. Thanks for the vid Wes!👍

Yes to the Orient Tristar video! I have the same :)
Consider it done, it will be a while though as I have a fair amount of watches to go through first

Yeah it's a shame they didn't put more effort the qc at times but it's definitely a beauty. I bet it wears nicely on the bracelet too.
Forgot to mention the bezel insert is ceramic
True, does add to the quality.
Seiko never disappoints in QC keeping us on toes tippy toes

My Rolex Submariner bezel stays where I put it but I can turn it back a little.

why does it look like the luminescent hands got significantly less bright in 60 seconds?
Because the footage is sped up to make a long video shorter. Hope that makes sense.

You have very good eyes to see the misalignment
It's actually quite noticeable just by eye without a macro lens. Shame really. Thanks for watching
Got the King samurai Asia edition over this one, compared them side to side and the Asia was the winner

That is a tough call, I can't really comment on the others but I know if you get a unit without issues this one would be fantastic.
My dealers must be great at picking up good pieces. But I've purchased 10 Seikos by now and I have yet to get one that is misaligned.
