Interesting Video, thank you! I would like to add the following thought: Head wounds, especially the forehead, temple, eyebrows and top of the skull, bleed quite heavily. If the blood flows into the eyes, it can severely limit an attacker's vision. This also reduces the ability to attack. Depending on the crime being defended, DNA traces will stick to the flashlight after a good hit, which can make it easier to identify the attacker afterwards. This can be of some relevance in cases of attempted rape or attempted murder. Furthermore: In Germany, there are efforts to generally ban the carrying of knives of any shape and size in public. A flashlight is already considered harmless/safe by almost all security services and the police and is not classified as a weapon. Even if the head of the flashlight is designed as a "DNA collector". In this respect, I see a tactical flashlight with appropriate training in its use as a defensive weapon as an ideal and legal tool.

This is really good advice. I carry one of these at work because I go into areas where I can't carry a pistol. I have never had to use it yet but I know how I would use it. I would have it in my left hand. I would blind an approaching attacker and then hit them with a gigantic right straight punch that they can't see coming. I would not use it to strike with. It of course would cut the skin more but I think I could cause more concussive damage by just punching without it. Also, when the cops show up, I would rather tell them I only hit the guy with my hands and not with a weapon.
Oh thank goodness this came out. I was recently jumped by 3 guys outside my house the other night, and I broke 7 of the tactical flashlights I keep on my person at all times just taking out the first 2 guys.

If you guys want a proper fighting flashlight, get the Klarus XT2CR Flashlight with the BZ-2 strike bezel. It's nasty. The strike bezel is sold separately but it really is one of the most aggressive strikers out there.
The best self defense tool is a flashlight Three things you can do with a flashlight disorientate, navigate and Identify. It takes a minimum of 60 lumens of incandescent light to disorientate someone’s vision in absolute darkness. And It takes a minimum of 120 lumens of led light to disorientate someone’s vision in low light. With most light having 800 lumens or more. Most violence happens at night and it gets dark every day
I love that you put quality content rather than BS and music only you would like. I have had an appreciation for flashlights for self-defense, but now a better idea of how to use and be prepared to use it. It would work against multiple attackers, nearly all of the time. So having one is much better than not. More importantly, practice, practice, practice makes muscle memory faster. You only have to be faster than your attacker. Most are drunken fools from whom you can walk away. While the others are the ones you were discussing. Thank you.😃
I recently picked up a nitecore p10 v2. Has a tail clicky, a dedicated strobe button next to the tail clicky, 1100 lumens, all that. I lost my original p10 years ago at a movie theater. Left it in a cup holder. Im digging the improvements.

I usually skim through the table of contents to see if there is anything that stands out and if the manual doesn't have one I just skim through to see if there is any special feature. Special button presses, for example.
I love my E9R, I use it daily in my pre-dawn hikes. Unfortunately, somehow the charging indicator light lens popped out in the field (lost). I know they'll replace the light, but still. I also like the high lumen strobe that you can set to be the mode that turns on when you hit the switch for self-defense mode (another non-lethal option that might work for one of those drugged out dangerous zombies you see everywhere now). Not many companies have flashlights that do that.
One thing to worry about abusing flashlight on combats is that it got battery inside. And the battery is most likely to be lithium based. You don't want to form a crack on the battery cuz it might eventually release smoke and then explode, just like old motobombs cellphones. The lithium is very dangerous, battery is very dangerous. Ofc you won't be abusing the flashlight very often, but might be a good idea to check the battery after this kind of session

The Surefire Tactician is a great light. Not a fan of anything with a bezel designed to break skin on impact. I once heard that feature described as contributing nothing to the trauma inflicted upon impact, except now you have someone else’s blood on you. I guess if the bezel is sharp enough to tear flesh, that’s definitely additional trauma, but something to consider.

If you mentioned this and I missed it, sorry. Can't speak for this brand at all, but I've bought 3 different brands of mini led flashlights with the buttons on the end for the thumb. I stretched out the springs and that helps a bit for awhile . So if you think you may use one in self defense emergency situation , you may want to keep that in mind. I've switched back to ones with the button on the side myself for every day type use and spare the ones I may use in self defense situation for just that.

I cary a flashlight everywhere for protection. It is one of the few items that is not considered to be a weapon (as long as it does not have a “DNA catcher”).
To blind someone you should pay more attention to candela (cd) and less to lumen. Lumen is the total amount of light the flashlight is throwing but it can diffuse on a wide angle. While candela give you an idea on how much the beam is concentrated. If you look at the Acebeam w10 it's "only" 450 lumen but it has 370000 cd, can reach 1200 meters and is consider has a laser, and if you test it, don't blind people with it, cause it will cause permanent eye damage. On the opposit you can have a flash light with 3200 lumen like the Klarus XT11X with "only" 20000 cd (reach of 300 meters), this flash light will be less effective to blind someone but be more effective to enlight everything in front of you so it is much better for searching. But even with the XT11X you can blind several people at once has the angle is wider and 20000cd is not bad (same as the Olight warrior pro and twice the E9R you tried here).
@@Jaburu Olight Odin Turbo is the only other laser like flash light I know but it's in the same price range. I personally have the Acebeam L16 it's not laser like but 90000cd is not bad.
Rechargeables are better than regular batteries in multiple ways, it's not just preferance. You can get higher outputs and longer runtime and it's just better.
Hey IcyMike, I live in Canadia and I was wondering if you can recommend a flashlight without the crenulation on the crown? I want to pick something like this up but I'm pretty sure it would get seized by CBSA.

Seems I had the 710th like on this vid. Good review from a self defense "tactical" standpoint. I would like to see you compare that flashlight with the Olight m2r Pro Warrior. It only maxes at 1800 lumens, but it seems really well constructed, and has a 2 level magnetic back switch that can be put into 2 different modes. I like the UI. Curious about your thoughts on this.

Wassup man I need your help to choose a flashlight 🔦 and there is a little thing that I don’t know what is better for self defense a flashlight with a big head or with a small head . These two flashlights are Fenix tk16 v 2 and fenix pd32 v2 . Tk16 v2 has 3100 lumens and pd32 1800 lumens and the pd32 is way smaller . PLEASE HELP ME

I feel like the saying "anything is a dildo if you try hard enough" also applies to self defense. If you try hard enough it will work just the effort may have been a detriment to your initial cause.
I'm an always-manual-reader in a family of non-manual-readers, it complements each other well. Incidentally, my stuff breaks much less often, and a reaction of "oh, what, it can do that?" is not uncommon whenever I use all the functions of my tools and gadgets. So uh. Powertac or Olight for EDC?
@@hard2hurt I know, you've compared individual models before and it differs per situation and preferences. But between your preferred Olight EDC (the M2R Pro Warrior I think?) and this one? Or would you not consider this an EDC in that same sense?
I might have missed it texting, but I just thought if might be mentionable, I was looking at lights, but if people that are the good guys they just want to get a light and use it to defend against bad guys, to be aware of the nub atthe end, some of the lights have a bigger bulb that tapers into the hand, if its for fighting, should be aware of the handle it gives somone of they manage to grab it, Id think you would want ot strait on the end that flashes so it dosent give the grabber much to grab and can slip it out easily. also though if hes that close ( or she ) its probly not even an issue anymore theyd probly grab the person not the light ? I dunno pending the individual I suppose. But ya, end of the bulb, is potential grip for someone to grab
Are there combination weapons with a variety of legal self-defense weapons in a single unit, such as: combined claw with buttons for knife to protrude & tasar & silent cell signal alarm & very loud disorienting alarm & video with sound for both SD card and connectivity to smart phone app with option to include gps location & calling designated emergency numbers w/pre-recorded messages & blinding light & salt bullets & pepper spray & hybrid power source (rechargeable batteries + regular batteries + mechanical energy generator via crank &/or shaking &/or passive motion like "self-winding" watches have & micro usb for recharging cell phone Etc.)? If not, seems like an obvious marketable device! After all, in emergencies, one can't assume there will be time for switching between separate devices. Wouldn't hurt to offer optional accessories such as holders as wrist bands; belts with hidden compartments +/- belt buckle weapons; stealth jewelry and hair decor that double as weapons &/or alarms -/or blue tooth vs gps tags; easy access (holster-like) ~ "fanny pack" with accessories for stuff like chemical exposure mitigation incl nose clips and oxygen canister + goggles that may as well also filter out some % of blinding light +/- single lense infrared attachment + eye wash + skin cleanser, and sound assault mitigating ear plugs, + multi tool for escaping car trunk or removing tail light for waving for help &/or leaving a trail of evidence as well as a concealable saw for cutting rope or zip ties; maybe activatable thermal modifiers like hand warmers Etc.; stimulants to partially counter some sedatives; and other accessories such as smart phone "protective cases" with stealth compartments, hidden compartments in shoe heels &/or straps &/or fasteners that local shoe-repair shops could swap with regular heels; underwire bras with modified wire + closure hooks + standard-looking front padding; various multi- function fabric decor such as studs & rhinestones & appliques & ribbon & inner seam self-adhering holders of misc tiny stuff; ways to limit lay-people's hand-held (relatively weak) metal-detectors from noticing hidden weapons or create uniform patterns to camouflage what can't be sufficiently blocked ; Etc.; plus a line of custom-fit items to place inside of these hidden containers. Think 'Q' on James Bond. Women and teens particularly would benefit from such devices (+ manufacturers could make additional profits through partnerships with App developers and approved distributors could share profits from tuition for training courses tailored to the use of their proprietary products; Etc..

P. S are the codes you put up usable for people in the UK?
What about using the flash lite point ends to RAKE across the skin or press down and twist ???
I cary a flashlight everywhere for protection. It is one of the few items that is not considered to be a weapon (as long as it does not have a “DNA catcher”).
Does the fact that the flashlight is labeled "tactical" show premeditation if you were to have to use it in a confrontation?
I doubt it unless the situation is really dubious
Depends on a country, best is sturdy and heavy non-tactical flashlight.
Is a tactical light also useful in daylight? How powerful (LU) would it have to be?
bad guys watching ur channel boutta start wearing tactical sunglasses @ night
Thanks for shedding light on this topic. Sorry couldn’t resist 😂
But even with the XT11X you can blind several people at once has the angle is wider and 20000cd is not bad (same as the Olight warrior pro and twice the E9R you tried here).
any cheaper "laserlike" options than Acebeam?
@@Jaburu Olight Odin Turbo is the only other laser like flash light I know but it's in the same price range. I personally have the Acebeam L16 it's not laser like but 90000cd is not bad.
@@cedricc.306 guess I'll go with the ASTROLUX C8 XP-L HI
There is even a nitcore with 4000 lumen but only 9000cd but any how, at night with night vision you dont need much to take is vision.
I use the Sabre 2 in 1 pepper light. OC spray on on end and a 750 lumen light with strobe on the other. Good for my line of work.
I was already a fan, but then you threw out "Eye of Sauron" !! So good 😂
Rechargeables are better than regular batteries in multiple ways, it's not just preferance. You can get higher outputs and longer runtime and it's just better.
Just picked one up after seeing this video. Love the thing!
So, I do not like that a lot of these telescope. I bought a Rayovac for $20 and fixed it in a position of a focused "laser" beam. I like it a lot.
Tactically honest and true
Hey IcyMike, I live in Canadia and I was wondering if you can recommend a flashlight without the crenulation on the crown? I want to pick something like this up but I'm pretty sure it would get seized by CBSA.
This is a great idea because it works at some distance as well as close up. Ice pick grip is hard to deal with from the bad guy's point of view.
The ice pick grip is the best deterrent
@@ellejendario97 Lots of flashlights have sharp edges near the light :)
Informative and entertaining, the best tag team around!
Thank you.
Wondering if it would steer people away if you walk in a parking lot to your car with the flashlight already on? I know your video was made three years ago but if you see this, could you please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.
Please do a review of the BoneBreaker keychain
mike best is really the vipertek flashlight taser you have. why: loop-to-loop for nunchucks 😎 stun-chucks
When does the hard2hurt fighting flashlight come out…?
I have a fulton gi w led bulb, mini maglite and some rayovak form hardware store .
fun learning, good stuff, Im old, i used to keep my sneakers tied so i can always get away fast, now the only thing on me fast is how i eat and dream about being fast. my arthritis wont really work with using things to hit things. I think ill stick with my umbrella, a really strong flashlight, and my prayers. sure i own other weapons of self destruction, but i cant take them on an airplane
Molly wop?? Love it.
I think Cliff was a little cranky about the board holders comments, haha.
The M18 striker was amazing. Seems light olight discontinued
good review, and funny asf with the board demonstration :D
tactical is practical in impactful.
PLEASE HELP ME
looks like a TOPK magnetic charging cable.. love them. i have broken tons of micro usb cords by not pulling them out straight, it falling off the desk. after all that board breaking did the flashlight still work?
Oh yeah.
what smaller flashlight would you recommend?
Cool. Now we need to know how good are fleshlights for self defense.
You did the good ol kuk sool won movements and "kiyap." Made me laugh.
I don't choose based on brand.
@@hard2hurt I know, you've compared individual models before and it differs per situation and preferences. But between your preferred Olight EDC (the M2R Pro Warrior I think?) and this one? Or would you not consider this an EDC in that same sense?
I have a question so someone was shot and killed at my school I don’t feel safe would this be a good option to have with me at school?
Mike, please contact Brinyte and ask to review either the PT18 Pro or the PT28. I think you'll like those lights.
Lol i dont contact anyone and ask anything! I do what i want
its way too big for an edc flashlight
He said please though 🙀
Best budget alternative?
First to get hurt!!
Don't believe in strobe?? It basically inflicts a semi-paralysis in the target. One stream of light is more of an annoyance in comparison.
Are there combination weapons with a variety of legal self-defense weapons in a single unit, such as:
combined claw with buttons for knife to protrude & tasar & silent cell signal alarm & very loud disorienting alarm & video with sound for both SD card and connectivity to smart phone app with option to include gps location & calling designated emergency numbers w/pre-recorded messages & blinding light & salt bullets & pepper spray & hybrid power source (rechargeable batteries + regular batteries + mechanical energy generator via crank &/or shaking &/or passive motion like "self-winding" watches have & micro usb for recharging cell phone Etc.)?
I have Powertac Lance, a perfect EDC, fighting light with 290 ln. And it is very affordable :D
Yeah that one looks pretty good. The fact that it takes AAs is interesting.
@@hard2hurt I bought several rechargable AA which i rotate. And I have some standard AA just in case.
“REASONABLY CRENELATED: The Authorized Autobiography of Icy Mike”
Well, I bought it. I really hope it doesn’t suck. If it does I will expect a full reimbursement from you.
