@Paul Semmens You are suggesting I am brainwashed while you think it absolutely has to be this way simply because it has been this way. As if it were without alternative. Those two oldest people also didn't live on green energy so that must be a fluke as well.
Sure, animal byproducts are efficient in those regards but that shouldn't mean we ought not to look for better ways. And those ways are there, they might just be detours or uncomfortable - for you.
Expecting people to convert from a standard American diet to a strictly whole foods, plant based diet is insane. The vast majority of people won't be able to do it. Making veganism accessible for the average person is the goal. Processed vegan foods and mock meats help so many people transition. Once people become more comfortable with eating only plants, they'll usually naturally evolve and transform their diets to include less processed mock meats, and more whole foods. But if they don't, who cares? The goal was to stop eating animals.
Exactly, they want something as close as possible to what they've become used to eating, which is the processed meat-tasting stuff.
If you crave something maybe it is simply because your body needs it and not because you are an evil? How toxic is veganism ....
@@alexwentoutside6843 No one said anything about "craving" the rotting corpse of a tortured sentient being. You're tricked into believing it's "food." It's the chemicals in it that make you addicted. It's an addiction and a societally-endorsed habit, not a "craving."
You're one of those still fooled and you're full of toxic, negative energy from swallowing suffering.
I care. If the vegan substitutes are just as unhealthy, why not go for the real thing? Especially when the substitute is more expensive.
Now I know what the video is about before I watch it. Thank you haha
I've been a whole-food vegan for about a year now and I really don't miss meat at all. It smells gross to me now. But I know that it's a lot easier to cook for my meat-eating family using plant based meat substitutes, whenever they have dinner at my place. I agree that delicious meat substitutes lessen the need for meat. It's still about the animals for me, not so much about my health. Even though I feel much healthier now than I ever did before I went vegan. Thanks for the vid!
Be careful consuming soy, the elites push soy onto vegans plates for many reasons, 80% of soy is gmo, gives vegans colon cancer every year, and actually takes years off your lifespan to break down digestive wise. Try finding an easy black bean burger recipe that helped me out a lot! I don’t trust any of the brands Bill gates owns/supports/funds AT ALL
Congrats! After a yr you can smell BO from meat-eaters too. I" ve been vegan since 2001, as soon as I could buy my own food lol. I have stopped mid-way in 2012 for a yr with a BF who was only vegetarian. I felt a huge difference in my health and skin. I don't think I will ever be a nonvegan again at this point. I think fake meats are not bad for transitioning but for me, I always disliked the smell and taste so stick to WFPB homemade foods. It's much easier to be vegan today, when I started few knew what it was.
bro same. Coming up to a year in September. I think the only thing I miss is the experience of cutting and eating a chunk of tough food.
I hope Ed's new clothing line fails. He is a evil person
anything but soy tho. dont feed them tofu that stuffs poison
i just want to say that i've just started my vegetarian journey (hoping it would become veganism with time) and just after a few weeks i've seen major changes, both in health and mood.
i'm telling you: its life changing.
meat substitutes are simply a way for people to always keep going with veganism and to never hurt another living being again..
That’s great! Keep it up!
3 years 🖤
Great to hear, keep at it! Just wait until you cut out dairy! - For me personally that was the biggest change in health and simply wellbeing! (Absolute cheeselover before going vegan)
it will only get better once you manage to drop the dairy
I actually stopped eating meat for health reasons (and I've been avoiding dairy for over a decade, having become lactose intolerant) and I don't miss it, so the meat alternatives haven't really interested me. However, I was glad that the restaurant my daughter chose for her birthday meal offers Beyond Meat burgers. It was enjoyable having burgers and fries again to celebrate a special occasion. Vegan meats are not something I'd want to eat every week, but the foods they're replacing shouldn't be eaten every week either.
I'm always thinking that people don't even realize that whole vs. processed is a much greater challenge than meat vs. no meat
Me too!
I have a friend who is vegan, but eats vegan junk food, when there’s lots of ethnic food that has always been vegan and much better for the body!
I'm always thinking that poor vegans are completely brainwashed to the point that they destroy their bodies with unnatural, made made trash that either has no nutrition, or inaccessible nutrition for humans. The natural, ideal human diet is animal organs, animal flesh, blood, eggs, raw milk and some fruit. The Earth is a brutal relentless place, and humans are just a result of it. Nothing is more natural than Man eating meat
@@disco4535 That isn't valid any less for people who eat meat. You're not talking about veganism but about people who don't care about their diet

I’m setting up my nutrition practice after finishing my internship and I am explicitly presenting myself as vegan nutritionist, deciding not going for plant based per de because I’m vegan for animals and that changed my health for better. Russel Brand is a narcissist with no loyalty to anything but any crap or conspiracy theory that promotes him getting attention.
I've been vegan for over 15 years now and to be honest I can't remember a meal I have which doesn't have anything processed. I never went vegan because I didn't like the taste or my health! When I first went vegan you couldn't even get soya milk in the supermarket it was tough as I never liked fruits and vegetables but my moral compass was far more important to me so I made do, now I don't have to make do and I'm loving I can have the taste and texture of the type of foods I love.

Yep, soy milk only at the health food store. I remember that. :)
Not every food you ever eat has to be healthy. A reasonable diet can include junk food sometimes too. So there is a lot of room for vegan junk food

Vegan for the $$$
Is the manufacturing of his clothing brand going to involve the death of field animals, pollution to the environment and water wastage? Yes. Is Ed Winters owning a clothing brand at all neccesary? Absolutely not. So, a genuine question: does it adhere to the vegan principle of limiting all unnecessary suffering? Or does personal wealth building now trump harm reduction?
@@remotefaith Why not attack every creator that makes a clothing brand or some kind of merch? Not only that but unsustainable, animal-derived clothing that people usually promote. He's literally just turning his passion and creativity into something he wants to share with the community he is based in. There's literally nothing wrong with that, especially accounting for the fact that he has done a lot of altruistic and overall beneficial work in the past including opening a sanctuary. Also let's account for the team of people who worked on this brand and who are profited, not just him. Nothing wrong with earning a living, especially when done ethically and sustainably. Again, veganism is about reducing animal suffering as much as practicable, and that doesn't exclude ambitious projects, otherwise, nobody would be morally permissible to do anything that could potentially cause harm. I doubt he is getting rich because of these projects, but if you think so, I'll need proof.
@@mahuuasharma9876 (edited formatting)
_Why not attack every creator that makes a clothing brand or some kind of merch? Not only that but unsustainable, animal-derived clothing that people usually promote._
I do, often. There’s nothing more sustainable and ethical than not producing something in the first place though. Wearing a second-hand leather jacket is more vegan than producing a new vegan jacket, at least by my own code.
_He's literally just turning his passion and creativity into something he wants to share with the community he is based in. There's literally nothing wrong with that, especially accounting for the fact that he has done a lot of altruistic and overall beneficial work in the past including opening a sanctuary._
This is just run-of-the-mill euphemistic language about getting rich. You may drink the capitalist aspirational kool-aid, but I don’t. Again, the best way to reduce pollution and animal suffering is not to produce anything at all. Also, doing something good in one area doesn't mean you are free from criticism in another. Jimmy Savile raised tens of millions for charity, may he rot in hell.
_Also let's account for the team of people who worked on this brand and who are profited, not just him._
Yes, let’s!
_Nothing wrong with earning a living, especially when done ethically and sustainably._
More euphemistic language, 'making a living' is working a job to put food on the table and pay your rent. Ed is either already a millionaire or fast approaching it. He's looking to make a fortune, not a living. I'm not saying he shouldn't make any money but there is a fine line and he has crossed it in my opinion. However you spin it, owning an international fashion brand goes against the oft-repeated vegan tenet of reducing all unnecessary suffering, or atleast stretches the meaning to the point of redundancy.
_Again, veganism is about reducing animal suffering as much as practicable, and that doesn't exclude ambitious projects, otherwise, nobody would be morally permissible to do anything that could potentially cause harm._
So, basically capitalist wealth building is not a practicable restriction in your ethical vegan framework. Sounds good! The practicability comes down to necessity, as Ed himself is constantly banging on about. He doesn't need to do this for any reason.
_I doubt he is getting rich because of these projects, but if you think so, I'll need proof._
A Penguin book deal, a restaraunt in central London, a youtube channel with 430k subs and sponsorship, a patreon, frequent trips all over the world to give paid talks at prestigious universities and similar institutions.
@@remotefaith yeah okay I see your point and pretty much agree. Your points make sense. I don't think I will stop supporting him and his content though because I honestly don't care if he pockets that money lmao. Not to say he's free of criticism if he's doing something altruistic, but I definitely think that the work he has done in other aspects is incredible and has a massively wide reach. The difference he has made in the vegan movement is incomprehensible. So the fact he is earning a lot of profit through doing something that might be more born out of desire than true altruism for once doesn't bother me tbh. The collateral damage of this just doesn't seem to be as harmful especially when he has taken so many moral and sustainable precautions. This might have been the only time he has created or launched something that doesn't have a huge selfless motive behind it.
I’m vegan and have been for a long time. Being vegan is a philosophy with animals right at the centre of every choice and many decisions we make on a daily basis. I loved the taste and texture of meat but made the connection between the food I was eating and the life behind it. I eat all the meat free substitutes because I am vegan for the animals. I’m not overly concerned about whether my food choices are over processed or necessarily the healthiest as long as, as far as is practicably possible, no animals were harmed or used because of my choices then I am happy.
Give me fully synthetic food for all I care. That's not a dystopia btw, that's literally Star Trek.
Indeed it is that simple. I'm afraid simplicity is too often overlooked.
but I am sorry veganism only care about farm animals - cows goats and pigs and chickens..
They dont care about bugs fungi and other life when they spray on crops, in other words hypocrite
@@Adnancorner even the crops are for animal feed mostly
Also fungi aren't sentient. "Life" isn't the thing that matters, sentience is.
Animal ag is an industry and way of living which seeks to exclude as far as is possible and practicable all forms of torture, rape and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of cruelty free products for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of healthy sensible flavoursome eating with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.
I love the idea of keeping it about morality and animals

I have to confess that I accidentally started WFPBD because I couldn't leave the house during the pandemic. I needed recipes for the non-perishables and I fell in the rabbit hole of WFPBD, I continued because of health (middleaged) and the peer review evidence in nutrition science.
I never even thought about animal slaughter industry or destruction of forests for animal feed. It took someone who was vegetarian to point out that I was vegan, that made me to look for the definitions of vegetarian and vegan, just then, almost 6 months in the process that I fell in the rabbit hole of climate change and animal suffering.
I now am very proud of reducing suffering and carbon footprint but in the beginning I couldn't care less.

lol, "being vegan, or at least eating salad sometimes..."
He is in fact promoting plant based diets, so maybe you should not jump too conclusions. It's ok if people are not 100% vegan. The important thing is that they try and are aware.
He definitely knows exactly what veganism is and is an advocate of it. You may not have the proper context from the 10 seconds of him you saw in this video. He was in no way equating veganism with flexitarians, just referring to both in the same sentence.
@@UberNoober23 exactly^^
And given Russel’s 5M+ subscriber base, which is mostly there for the political content he provides, will be much less eager to listen to anything related to animal rights/veganism than people who land on Ed’s channel. I think Russel’s trying to be polite while also encouraging more people towards leaving animals off the menu more often and/or sooner. I am not an advocate for that approach, am more of “cold turkey” proponent, but I understand (from observing people’s reactions to me and my suggestions) that far too many people feel going at least plant-based overnight is too much for them and would in that case not change their habits, where gradual change might seem more digestible for them.

thats great that your using alternatives instead of the real animal that dies for it. but as the person said above culture doesnt dictate morality, its in some peoples cultures to do child sacrifices but this isnt considered moral purely because it was a cultural practice, if it causes someone else pain then its not justified no matter the reason, espeically if it doesnt HAVE to be practiced
Omnivores will continue to be omnivores. Just like priests make a sacrifice to give up sex, vegans make a sacrifice to go against their nature by only eating plants. Humans will continue having sex and eating animals because it’s driven by our dna.
Russell just doesn't get it. I do eat an organic high raw vegan diet about 75% - 80% of the time. But just like any lifestyle, we all need out cheat days. I do eat Impossible burger, Beyond sausage, Just Egg about 25% of the time. I agree, Ed, these options are still much healthy than the animal-products they replaced. People also don't understand that most animal products are processed. A lot of ground beef has red slime which makes it look healthier. White eggs don't get laid that way. If we want to be real about processed foods and health, let's be real in every way. Thanks, Ed, for another awesome video!
The fact that you think white eggs aren't natural shows you're highly alienated from the source of your food. And calling meat-replacement products cheating comes across crazy fundamentalist. They're literally vegan, how is it cheating?
Personally, I find Brand hilarious but am baffled as to why he does not use his massive platform to advocate for Veganism or at least discuss the oppression, violations or propaganda dispelled by Animal Ag industries. He’s weirdly quiet about it, despite being unequivocally vocal about other social injustices, corrupt industries and propaganda.
Because veganism kills more animals and habitat than a carnivorous diet, kills children, destroys your health and supports big pharma and Monsanto maybe 🤔
He isn't cool that's why. When he was on Rogan he basically caved to anything Rogan said and I would not be surprised if he ate meat with Rogan
ask your grandma she will tell you why
Because there’s bigger fish to fry at this point I believe he would rather be a martyr for human rights instead of one for animal rights and I fully support that
He doesn't like to take sides on anything. He prefers people to make their own mind up but him being vegan anyway shows what he stands for.
You're doing amazing work :) thank you so so much for that!!
hey Ed, I love the idea (no pun intended) of you making sustainable clothes, which is why you might wanna look into using hemp as the material for them. it's probably the most sustainable source of textile at the present. if you're interested I could also provide you with some more information on sources and literature about the topic ✌️
I absolutely loved the clothes and the IDEA behind it. Get it?
On the other hand, I really don't know why is it so hard to understand that veganism advocates for more plant based options to "regular" food precisely because it's not like we immediately just hate the taste of meat. It's easier to make someone transition when you show them that the sacrifice isn't that big because they can keep eating even those tasty not-that-healthy foods but cruelty free! And the more vegan people there are, the more alternatives will keep coming.
This and the fact alone that we can thrive on a vegan diet should be great news for anyone concerned about animals and the environment, I know it was for me when I educated myself and I'm never looking back. Thanks for the information Ed.
Theres alot of vegan meats, boughten and homemade that are indistinguishable from the real thing.
I’m so incredibly thankful that other vegans - other than myself - exist. Thanks for fighting for animal rights!
Are you ok?
@@kairoortiz3997 why would he not be?
@@kairoortiz3997 I'm excellent, thanks! And you?
I'm thankful for you too ! 🖤
You kill animals that want to eat your plants...and then I’m too of that too don’t eat the meat....you don’t care about animals or humans. If you did you wouldn’t be a vegan, you wouldn’t tell people to eat food that is poisonous and full of fiber and things the human body doesn’t utilize and needs to buy pills to keep living on a “vegan” diet.... makes no sense to say it’s healthy but please take supplements or you will die.
Ed I love your approach to debating
I would love to see Ed talking to Russell
Getting more and more unlikely as the days go by.
I would've called it "I Don't *Exploit Animals" which is more all-encompassing than just 'eating' animals because vegetarians may not eat animals but still consume dairy.
That's true, but most people in society won't understand the shirt if they see it. The point of these shirts is to advertise animal rights and get the people around you to acknowledge that veganism is a valid option. It can be helpful in sparking conversions. But if it said "I don't exploit animals", people in general might think that means you don't support exploitation of pet animals. Because non-vegans don't acknowledge that there are issues with how farm animals are treated.
You win the comment section today Mark.
@@smudge8882 Yeah I suppose.
@@joannot6706 Haha I don't wanna see it like that. I'm a huge fan of Ed and I look up to him in everything he does for the liberation of all life. I just thought 'exploit' sounded better, that's all.
I like Ed as well.
They E might mean Eat for them (for now), but for me it will always stand for Exploit.
Good work, Ed!!
Ed I'm sure you'll never see this but you're amazing! You are such an inspiration! Using your knowledge and dedication to help pave the way for the future of food, clothes, becoming an author, not to mention surge sanctuary. The website looks great and you look absolutely lovely in the videos and photos, you could easily have been a model. I hope all the best for IDEA and I hope your book is being received well and properly appreciated. Sending lots of positivity and well wishes.

👏🏼👏🏼 Clothing is so important in communicating and personally representing the change we want to see in the world. And yes, may plant-based food companies feel empowered to share their ethical conviction.
"Food processing" is a well defined term, covering the wide variety of ways that a plant or animal is transformed before being eaten. While it is certainly true that processing isn't bad in and of itself -- type, degree, and purpose of processing varies -- selective crop breeding is not a form of food processing.
His point still stands.....
@@davefx7949 his greater point, yes. This is still something worth pointing out.
@I Coroa Keep the replies short. It's not that deep my dude. His point still stands because what we should focus on is whether something is healthy or not. Or how healthy or unhealthy. The word 'processed' is thrown around in the same way 'natural' is.....It's tend to skew people away from what is really being said.
Watch the video. Try to control that bias....
@I Coroa My friend. You in need of some fresh air and a hobby......
Congratulations on the brand! I hope it does well. Even being in Canada its out of my price range but i do love the whole ethos and hope it does amazing!
Got myself a shirt and sweater! Thanks ed! Love the merch I.D.E.A. 😀
About to order a new pair of vessi shoes, just about finished tearing up my old pair. lol
Amazing, thanks Ed
10 years vegan here, and while I started on a 100% ethical sentiment ,I'm 50 y.o now and I also do it for my health equally. No processed food for me, and anyway I always hated fast food and even cheese in my younger days. I don't miss the taste of anything non vegan. But I understand that for those who eat these alternatives, they are indeed voting for the elimination of animal exploitation, and that makes me happy. To each their own vegan meals! I used to be the vegan food police but no more.
Same, for about 4 and a half years?
We love you ed. Good luck with your co.

The brand announcement!! So happy!!
Thanks for this great vid!!!!
I think that after you’ve been vegan for a while you really don’t care much for the meat alternatives anymore, however they’re nice to have sometimes when recreating the food you might have grown up with, swedish meatballs etc. Point is when you eat healthy 90% of the time it really doesn’t matter if these meat alternatives are healthy or not.
You're projecting a lot there Daniel, plenty of vegans enjoy meat alternatives as a staple of their diets
i’ve been vegan over 6 years and eat meat alternatives regularly
@@russell.bishop of course, as I said “I think” 😅 Just experience from my family and vegan friends.
I would advise staying away from fake meat products as most I have tasted so far have been mostly awful. The only product I have ever come close to proper enjoying is Richmond sausages. I mean real ones hardly have meat in them anyway. Beans and Rice's and lentils in a stew is one of my favourites.
As an autistic vegan I can honestly say that veganism probably wouldn't be as accessible to me if I couldn't eat meat alternatives everyday. Due to sensory issues and executive dysfunction when cooking I HAVE to rely on them, and I'm glad to be able to. Meat alternatives has taken veganism from something wildly unaccessible to disabled communities to something quite achievable; for me anyway!
life > taste 🌱🤙🏼

@@rondarkman. ah you’re one of those weird meat eating people. Why are you in the comment section of an earthling Ed video if you don’t mind me asking..?
I recently offered to let a refugee from Ukraine stay in my spare room, but didn't really think about just how unusual veganism can seem. When the English-speaking contact asked "Can they use the kitchen?", it was hard to provide a clear response. The thought of dead animals sitting in the fridge or on the counter - or of the smell hanging in the air - was sickening. At the same time, it's often considered a basic right and freedom of being a respected adult to be able to keep "food". Luckily it seems the incoming tenant understands somewhat. A big part of this is having alternatives: "Is that milk?" "It's oat milk." "Oh, okay, we have milk."
Weirdly enough, Wal-Mart seems to have some of the best vegan options, although I prefer other stores otherwise. $6 vegan supreme pizzas, vegan ice cream sandwiches, mushroom steaks, these make it easy to keep things on-hand that feel like "treats". I like to just throw a bunch of premade stuff on a tray in the oven and let it bake because it's easy. Toss in a couple Prager's risotto burgers with a little green dressing, oil, and rosemary bread on the side, and it's fancy, and doesn't leave guests feeling like their freedoms are being infringed. Fresh is great, but so is prepped sometimes.
Thanks for the video Ed. =)
Best video I’ve watched in a while, thanks Ed!
Damn I really wanted to get the "Happy Vegan Cuffed Beanie" but unfortunally the cheapest option to Sweden is about the same as the beanie itself, almost 700sek is way out of my budget for a beanie.
That’s nearly 70 euros.
@@warmeappeltaart496 okay, dats really a lot xD though, it's still worth noting that in some way, we are not buying clothes for the sake of buying clothing. But supporting (almost donating) to an ethical startup. Greetings stay vegan.
@@elguaripolo686 Makes sense.
Its all about the money money Money!!😳😳
Surely shipping a hat across the world defeats the point of trying to be ethical?
I'm struggling to understand how you can equate red meat to a whole food. The most "whole" part of the red meat production process is the sperm and egg from where it starts. Then you start a highly intensive ultra processing system that lasts for up to 24 months and requires inputs such as sex hormones, growth hormones and antibiotics to produce the food. I wonder what the media narrative would be like if plant based burgers contained some of these inputs???
