I saw this guy open for Nada Surf at The Bottleneck in Lawrence Kansas in like '04 or so. Thought his name was a band. It was just him and a guitar. I went out the next day and got Faces Down, and it's a top 10 all time album for me.
Well, he pronounced it in a very strange way, I believe. Sondre Lerche is norwegian and in norwegian the "ch" is pronounced as a "k". As a norwegian speaking person myself, I would pronounce "Lerche" as "Lerke". He grew up in Bergen which is a city heavy influenced by german and dutch, so maybe his ancestors were german, or the family name was changed from Lerke to Lerche. My mother grew up in Bergen and we can trace her family-tree back to Königsberg in East Prussia. By the way, "Lerche" in german means lark, and "lerke" in norwegan also means lark.
Uno de los mayores genios de la actualidad. Lo vi sobre estas fechas en el Primavera Sound de Barcelona: Increíble. Gracias por existir y por compartir. Su último disco es para mí, el mejor.
geeeez, as someone who loves sondres music and would love to study each song, the videographer nailed it here. Its hard to find accurate tabs or even chord progressions so its awesome to see a close up of the major chord progressions!!
I remember first hearing Sondre on the Dan In Real Life soundtrack and I loved it. No idea he was on NPR. Thank you for the re-upload. I loved it. Great work as always.
absolutely loved this in 2009 and still love it, I saw Sondre live twice bcos of this very Tiny desk video :) thank you so much Tiny Desk for introducing us all to so much incredible music we probably would never have found
I was a bit miffed with you guys for not having posted this treasure yet. Thank you for finally sharing it with us! I love Sondre Lerche, he's been the soundtrack of my life for almost twenty years :')
Do love me some Sondre Lerche. I saw him at the Birmingham Academy about 2001 (think it was anyway). It was just after Faces Down was released. Really small gig; he was just in the bar sharing a drink with us beforehand - had a nice chat with him and a good sing-along.
Love Sondre! I saw him at Boz Scaggs' Slim's in SF during the second album "Two-Way Monologue" album. Great show. This was like 20 years ago, mid-2000s. Incredible!
I've been listening to Sondre since Sleep on Needles came out (2002) and had no idea this gem of a video existed until now. Can't believe Heartbeat Radio was over 10 yrs ago.
I love Tiny Desk for you guys expose me to musical artists I wouldn't normally encounter their gifts. 😂😂 that first song made me want to sit on the front porch and play guitar or Congo's with him. At the end of it, I heard Frank Sinatra/ Michael Buble. I like his style
he is just so criminally underrated.
we, as fans, must do our part! I do mine by blaring Patience from the top of my roof at 4am. My neighbors love me. ;P
I hear you
First word that comes to mind. Way more people should know about Sondre Lerche.
