I owned, played and modded over 100 guitars from cheap to expensive and all types of. A long journey and thousands of bucks later it ended up with this Affinity Jazzmaster. Just changed the tuners and the stringtree and gave it a good setup. I own three of them. I prefer only playing the neck PU on all my guitars. To my ears and personal taste this affinity pickups are the 'best' sounding ones. They Sound like Singlecoils with much more Output. They are ceramic, which i prefer. I buy them on the second market and put it in much more expensive guitars.
I did a lot of customization and modification to mine, but it didn't need anything to be a good guitar. It has held up very well, I highly recommend them.
Did you stay with 9's when you changed the strings? I just got one of these and I'm not sure if I should stay with 9's or go to something a bit heavier.
They are 2 fundamentally different designs. I've had good luck with the quality of the newer Affinity stuff, it's just about what you like. A Strat will have a lot of tonal options, but the Jazzmaster with humbuckers might be better suited to heavier/more aggressive music.
@@efemji Personally, I would always recommend a Strat or Tele over a Jazzmaster if you don't have them both already. The Jazzmaster is fun but there is a reason the Tele and Strat have remained basically the same since 1952/1954 :P To answer your question more directly, Strat's are very well suited to blues and jazz IMO. Jazzmasters can do that stuff too, but this is less "Jazz"master and more "Rock"master to me.
I just discovered your channel. This is the 3rd vid of yours that I've seen. These are all good tips, especially the packing material and attention to the extras that can be buried in the box. Sweetwater is known for good shipping methods but sometimes those "other guys" ...maybe not so much. LOL I am always a bit nervous buying a guitar sight unseen... but hey we've all done it. One tiny point I would make, which you might have been doing anyway, is when you did the hand/feel inspection. When you run your fingers over the neck I like to check the fret edges on the fingerboard to check for sharp edges or even (but not too likely) raised edges. This would probably only happen on a lower end guitar, but something you don't want to do with a brand new guitar is file a bunch of frets. All in all a very thorough and helpful checklist. Good stuff. Now I HAVE to see what you had planned for it.
Shame on you Lucas. I identify as an attack helicopter and I took personal offense to your joke. JK bro I love your stuff. Keep doing what you’re doing.
First check if it is indeed a guitar and not something else like a screwdriver or a house plant
I'm pinning this comment for being awesome.
@@LucasFowler haha cool, I just got this affinity jazzmaster because of your video(s) on it so if it's no good it's all your fault
@@profile1251 I think you might be pleasantly surprised with how good these guitars are.
Well Done Lucas! Bravo!
Thanks!
Good Job. Rock on.

8:50 I wish I had a Petrucci mode. :DDD
I'm a little afraid he might take it as a challenge and kill me in my sleep...
How would you rate that guitar? I'm thinking about getting one.
Hi! :D, as has been your experience with this guitar, do you recommend it?
I did a lot of customization and modification to mine, but it didn't need anything to be a good guitar. It has held up very well, I highly recommend them.
Did you show the intonation in an other video? Or you didn't put that in the modding videos?
I don't guess I did. I do it so instinctively that I forget to mention it!
I want black tuners on mine! Do you know which ones that can be swapped to?
These work really well, though it is possible you may need to drill a few new holes to make them fit.

Got the same guitar recently and already tried to play on 10-46 pack. Eventually, got back to 9`s. Dunno, they just seem to fit better for me
can you put a trem bridge ?
Not without a significant amount of modification to the guitar.
pls answer, should i take jazzmaster over squier strat? (both are affinity)
i kinda hate the jack for jazzmaster

@@LucasFowler im trying to pick up jazz and blues, so would strat be the better option?

@@LucasFowler thank you btw, i did some research too i think the three tone options offered by strat will do good for me.
well, strat it is!
Do you think this guitar can play metal music?
Diego D_C yes, absolutely. You may decide you want to put different pickups in later, but the stock ones are surprisingly hot and clear!
@@LucasFowler Great, thank you so much for the tip. Regards.
@@DiegoD_C I hope you enjoy it!
You are aware that guitars do not play themselves, correct??

The fret sprouting issue is an important one as well! I always do that, I can't believe I didn't mention it here!
