Owned, played and modded over 100 guitars from cheap to expensive and all types of. A long journey and thousands of bucks later it ended up with this Affinity Jazzmaster. Just changed the tuners and the stringtree and gave it a good setup. I own three of them. I prefer only playing the neck PU on all my guitars. To my ears and personal taste this affinity pickups are the 'best' sounding ones. They Sound like Singlecoils with much more Output. They are ceramic, which i prefer. I buy them on the second market and put it in much more expensive guitars.
Very entertaining and informative! Thanks Ben, I'm a newbie to your channel and a recent subscriber. I'm already enjoying the home feel and friendly nature of your video's. No phony ego trip attitude found here! Thank you! Vince
Sometimes the right tool for the right job is the tool that is right there. I like the mismatched knobs. We have beer stores. You can use the drawstring from a Crown Royal sack to pull off knobs too. Yep. Tele knobs look great. My Bullet series Mustang did not have that issue with the long screws; it has the same bridge. I agree, maybe 2 winds. Sometimes I mess it up though. That's a fine little guitar. Yay for Miss Amanda. What a good brother you are.
Dang I forgot about the Crown Royal draw string....and I'm Canadian!! I may grind down those screws if I get ambitious, I can't wait to give her the guitar today, cheers Rick!!
ok for the newbies... why are we doing this? like, do all new guitars need this? or only pre-owned? the wire brush is to scrape off any grime from previous use? And what's with the sandpaper? And what part are you covering up and what part are you sanding? is it the part in between the frets? And what is the fret protector made of? did you rig it up out of cardboard?
I love mismatched knobs ,leave them ! I'm glad you showed tightening the tuners as I have yet to get any new guitar that didn't have loose tuners out of the box,I'm pretty sure it's from wood shrinkage and of course, they loosen after playing so, great suggestion to check them at every string change ! Cheers !
I havent played one of those guitars Be, but i have had the same problem when restring on many a guitar, pain in the Bu,,, t man Amanda is going to luv it , Cheers my friend.
Those are the string's I just put on mine. Nice video. Is your sister just learning? If so at least she has a good teacher. Hey Ben I got a stupid question. I was gonna replace my string tree with a newer fender tree I bought and I noticed when I took the old one off that the hole was not centered between the E and B string but over to one side toward the B string. Is it suppose to be centered evenly between the string's? I ask because the new one I will have to make a second hole and before I did that I wanted to make sure where to position it. It looked like it was going to make the E string bend farther and I was worried it would pop off when playing. The newer one doesn't have that big hook like the old one. I'm a newb so probably a silly question.
Yep she's just starting to learn. Regarding that string tree, they are usually centered unless the tree itself has some kind of offset to it. Hope this helps!!
Fender dropping the ball? Cheaping out - especially on a Squire?? Would they....? I can answer your question about owning a Squire Affinity - the answer us NEVER :D I will NEVER buy a Fender or Squire and, if I ever 'need' a 'Fender' type instrument, I would look at any alternative way of getting the sound or as close as possible, without ever buying a Fender. I know our irrational that may be, especially as I have no issues with others playing Fender - but I really do not want, or would buy ANY fender guitar and loathe guitars that have big pickguards covering up the top -Also 'Blue' guitars regardless of who makes them. If I won or was bought a PRS Private Stock in Blue, I would honestly sell it as quick as I could - even if its the best sounding guitar ever made - I cannot have a 'blue' guitar and wouldn't want to play or be seen holding one. I would rather hear someone else play these guitars than own or hold one myself. I am sure we all have our quirks, all a bit 'mad' LOL
LOL Don't ever change!! One thing I love about the guitar community is we all have our opinions and they aren't all the same. This was a great read with my morning coffee. Cheers Mozzi!!

Good job getting the guitar set up to make it playable for your dear sister Amanda.
I had to do it, to many people give up when they are first learning just due to a poor setup on their guitar!!

why do we take off the factory finish?
It's personal preference for me, I like a raw feeling neck.
If you don't mind how much does a squire jazzy cost
Hey Brian, new they run just under $300 CDN. Cheers!!
I grabbed mine new for $159 but theyve shot up to $220 now
Hey Ben, I hope Amanda enjoys the Jazz master. By the way can I have a Labatts blue while I watch? Lol. I see a few cans handy. Lol. Please. Cheers.
Sure pop in by for a pint!! Looks like it time for me to return the empties lol!! Cheers Will!!
can we please radius gauge those string saddles next time.
I just measure the action for each string and set them the same.
this reminds me of breaking in a new baseball glove, oil and all
Ya kinda, you oil leather to keep it from cracking, oil wood so it doesn't crack.
