I wish everyone took the time to make their side gardens look so beautiful. Some of the people on our street use the side yard for garbage cans and junk. In my zone 6 I have planted hosta's and foxglove as well as bleeding hearts and made it into a sort of woodland garden as it is very shady. I have a chair and small table that I can just sit and enjoy this quiet space. I call it my Zen garden.

Your zen garden sounds beautiful!!! That’s exactly how I feel about side gardens or areas that are super shady they can become really specially places. This area is the coolest in our garden and we noticed everyone gravitates towards it when it’s hot including our dogs 😄. I love the sound of your table and chair. 🙏💐💚💚💚💚💚💚

Thank you for this great video. I'm glad that you took away the edge. A natural look is so much more you. And gardening is creating and creating is a dynamic process so changing in views happens. You are great gardeners and parents. It's so wonderful to hear that you take your children's idea's seriously. They have refreshing ideas, they are able to think out of the box.
I'm looking forward to your gardenyourney. I'm sure it will be as wonderful as the one you had in Virginia.

I agree with the removal of the edging. When you first held it up… I was thinking…that’s going to feel kind of formal. I always think of secret gardens as haphazardly whimsical. I think you are going to have that.

Congratulations - on the new secret garden , can’t wait to see what it looks like at the end of the season , the great thing about zone 9 gardening in Texas , is that we have a very long growing season and (despite some horrible freezes) our winters are typically very mild . And yes you guys are correct , best time to plant is fall , it gives them plenty of time to root in before our extremely hot 🥵 summers.

Great video. Love how you two work well together. My hubby and I split garden chores, he cares for lawn and other heavy duty stuff (stone border, irrigation) and I plant and care for plants. Big DA rose fan here too. I have a few macrophilla hydrangeas in pots but a huge lemon lime in ground. It does ok but the blooms never make it till fall to get that pink fall color. They brown around September. Still beautiful though…it gets about 3 hours of sun.
    Love the ending blooper chica!

That area looks very narrow for how big those Oak leaf Hydrangeas will get to me.I also haven't noticed any widows to look out to see that area from inside. I say that because when summer arrives I don't see many people wanting to get outside in the Texas heat.I'm just saying.I planted some Oak leaf Hydrangeas on the side of my house as well and I have windows that are much higher up so I can't really look out to enjoy them. My neighbor however does and she loves to see them from her kitchen window.I only get to see them when I cut the lawn or riding up the street from that direction which I never travel.

We get to enjoy from our upstairs window looking down. It’s the most coolest area in our garden and a path we use a lot to come in and out daily. Texas heat is brutal! We do love being outdoors that’s a huge reason for having a garden to go out and enjoy it we will find the time of day in summer to still head out. We’ve lived in hotter climates and still enjoyed the outdoors very much. This is an area that usually could be forgotten but we want to make it special. The Oakleaf hydrangeas can be cut back and shaped nicely after flowering. We will see with time it’s all about just getting out there and having fun! Can’t wait to see them in bloom! 😃🙏💐💚💚💚💚💚💚

@@kater8730 I agree however again this is in Texas heat and humidity . I ask you how many people have patios/decks and never ever use them? I see it all the time here in Atlanta and we don't get to temperatures of Texas. I'm lucky enough to have a very dense shady backyard that allows me some comfort from the summer sun, heat and southern humidity. If someone hasn't lived in regions of the south where it's the humidity and not the heat outside life is limited.
