I can’t imagine moving a household let alone the shrubs and plants you brought with you! Congratulations on your new home and on your new gardening adventure! Take time to rest! 🌸❤️🇨🇦
Glad you made it safely to your new home. How exciting to create your own garden space.
Y'all are border zone now. I'm 8a/8b and y'all are 8b/9a. That microclimate for your backyard will be a game changer for you. The roses are hilarious. This going to be so informative for all of us.
Born and raised Texas girl here. I’ve been subscribed to your channel for a long time. When you started talking about moving to Texas, made me happy. I moved back here 3 years ago from Georgia and bought a new home and the yard was nothing but sod. Gradually building beds. I’m north of you in Lubbock and a different zone but some plants work in both. Excited to watch you two build and I know you’ll give me inspiration! Welcome home!
You guys have so amazing to me!!!!!!!!!!!! That is a great place for a kitchen garden, it is so wonderful and amazing you both work together so wonderfully and I know it is going to be just drop dead gorgeous when you finish with your garden and so much fun and exciting 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Ooh, y’all are going to have such a fun time building your garden. San Antonio is hot.
Your backyard is a blank slate - You are going to have so much fun creating your new space , I can’t wait to see what you guys will come up with , a kitchen garden will be perfect in that location 👍🏼
Congratulations on your new home, I’m sure you’ll give the garden the love it needs 🌹🌿🌼! Can’t wait to follow along and see all the wonderful things you do with the plants you brought from VA. What a great space to work with 😊
Glad you made it safely to Texas! That was a fun video driving with y'all in the van. San Antonio will be wonderful and I'm glad you have family out there. Ambrose, you'll want to build a patio cover out back this winter for your plants and to protect the arborvitae, unless you are planting them on the north side of the house.. The tater tots probably won't survive next summer as aren't they zone 7?? They do okay up in Oklahoma but I know you can't even get them here in North Texas. They are totally adorable!! This past summer was BRUTAL on plants. We had over 100 degree days since mid-June until, what?, a week ago... Supposedly the hottest August and September ever on record...
I'm planning on any new plants as needing to be able to handle: zone 5 (cold) - zone 9/10 (summer's heat). We watered both morning and evening, everything, from June through last week. I am just cutting down on watering as the sun really cooled off. I had heuchera in the back under the shade of two oaks but they weren't getting watered twice a day like this past summer. I'll need to try them again. Yours may do better. Looks like you'll have to do a lot of mulching of the soil. If you haven't had a compost pile before, maybe consider starting one. :)
Happy moving in and happy beginning your new garden! Thanks for the trip to HEB.
Hugs,
Barb 💕
Congratulations on the new house and military retirement. Your backyard is huge! It would be nice to paint your fence, I recently painted mine with a dark stain by Berh in the color slate it makes the greenery pop even more! White would also look nice or any color that matches your home. Building or adding a pergola for some shade would be nice too. Your shade or secret garden would look amazing with a really nice arch as you enter it. Can’t wait to see what you two create in your new place.
Love it all! Thank you so much a lot to start thinking about so much fun! 😃🙏💐💚
You have a wonderful space to create a beautiful and pleasant garden! I hope you bought the house, because in the houses that weren't permanent you already make so much effort to make the house personal and welkomy, i can only imagine how great your house will look! I want to follow every step of this stage in your knew lives.
Oh, the possibilities you have in this property and you get to actually plant things in the ground.
I'm in Minnesota so can't offer ideas for San Antonio climate, though our summers get really hot and dry relative to our extremely cold and snowy winters.
A few channels I think you'll find helpful as you plan your garden design (maybe you already follow them or know them):
Y Garden - Yuliya is a NJ garden designer and very inspirational.
Gardening With Creekside - they are NC growers/retailers with a huge property. Lots of gardens to inspire.
Linda Vater - she recently moved to a new home in OK and has landscaped the yard already in less than a year! Similar heat issues.
Then Janie from Dig Plant Water Repeat (something like that) is in CA. Huge new property so, as you, starting with a clean slate. She also has a fence as yours needing repair, but painting it a slate gray makes the plants shine.
Enjoy your plant playground. Your enthusiasm bounces off the screen! Congratulations 🎉
Love ❤️ you, BOTH! Children are beautiful! I'm glad you're in a new home. You bother deserve your own land to enhance garden growth. I'm so excited 😊 to see 👀 plants in the ground instead of pots. I am sure you both agree. I check notifications all the time to see what's next. God Bless You Both!
Moved from Virginia to Oregon then back to Virginia taking maiden hair frens hosta in pots with me. Moved back to Oregon taking those and lots other plants with me.I brought tall wardrobe boxes and stacking plants on top each other to save space.I was happy i kept plants. They all survived trip back to Oregon. Happy for your new home. You certainly have your work cut out for you.❤ from a Virginian in Oregon..
Perfect kitchen spot. Ive been watching this whole video for Ambrose 's apple. Gosh, raised beds, pergola, greenhouse with potting shed and compost pile, water feature...
Lavender plants in the front maybe. Oh man. I’m so looking forward to see how this property evolves.
I am so glad you moved back to Texas. You both will be my resources as I am trying to grow bushes and plants that will do well in our zone 8b. Welcome back to our great state of Texas❤️🙏🏼🍁
😃🤗💐🙏💚
You have a huge yard to work with! How fun it’s going to be for you both, and for us to watch! You were talking about a kitchen garden… can you have year round vegetable gardens?
Year round vegetable garden definitely! We should be able to garden all year round. I think it gets low in the 40 degrees in winter we will see with time it’s going to be fun! 😃🙏💐💚
I can't wait to see what your designs are for the blank slate! How awesome that you all were able to bring so many of your plant babies along to the new home!
Loved hearing Pender Pines Garden Center - my favorite place to visit! Hate that I missed finding your channel while you were in NC (we live near Camp Lejeune’s Back Gate in Sneads Ferry)! Congratulations on your Retirement and on your new home in Texas! Can’t wait to watch as your new gardens develop there!
This is so exciting and can be overwhelming. Take your time and enjoy. Congratulations again!! 🌺🌸🌻🌼
😃🙏💐💚💚💚💚💚💚
I’m so happy your back home. Love your excitement for the new home and gardens that you will be developing. Can’t wait to see them plants 🪴 in bloom in their new home
Hi, I’m a gardener in Baytown Texas and I love the two of you. You inspired me to get an oak leaf hydrangea.Welcome home. It’s going to be fun. Hugss
😃💚💚💚💚💚💚
Welcome to Texas! I’m north of Austin and zone 8b. I’ve had success with PW sprinter boxwoods, rockin’ blue suede shoes salvia ( came back for me, labeled as an annual), golden gate lantana ( not all came back, 3 of 8 came back), portulaca, truffula pink gomphrena, have all done very well. I planted vista bubblegum in ground and morning sun and they made it through the 100 degree days. They can handle part sun here too. I have found vistas are the way to go. I personally haven’t had luck keeping the other PW petunias all summer, granted our summer is long and brutal. I had to recently dig up my limelight’s and pot them. Even only giving them morning sun and extra water, they get crispy. By July they looked dead. I’ve replaced with pink chiffon rose of Sharon’s. I’ve killed many PW hydrangea. Over loved, under loved, I’m not sure. Happy to watch you guys and see what works for you. Oh, the color blaze coleus can’t take our full sun. They fade in color. They need some shade. They do fantastic in part sun to dappled. I plan to raise my coleus game next growing season. I’ll be curious to see what PW plants you find available around SA. It’s pretty limited here in my neck of the woods. When I see it I have to buy it on the spot because chances are if I wait, it will be gone. If you order, do it early March while it’s cool. The plants don’t travel well this far south once it starts getting hot. Also what you do order, acclimate it before you plant it. Love you guys! ❤
I have a place in 9A Florida and I will be watching too, so I can learn what may work. My primary residence is in PA, zone 6A, so 9A is so different. I hope to take my annual PW down for the winter. I am hoping some things will winter over there, like the PW rockin the deep purple salvia, which is all I can find in PA. Thanks for posting what works for you.
Unfortunately I have not had much success with most PW plants I've planted in 9a Houston
Hi, have you watched Jenny at Creekside Nursery? She and her husband are in NC, but they sell PW. They just started shipping and their shipping isn’t bad. Now, that being said, they sell mainly plants that will grow in their zone. I think they are 8A. Also, Backyard Gardens by Kim is another great YT.
Looking forward to watching you guys work your magic here! 💚
😃🤗💚💚💚💚💚💚
Welcome to San antonio, we are northeast side , foundation plants that worked for us is the greggi salvia, and salvia , sunshine lugustrum , texas sage Silverado, ixora , bottle brush, vitex , Mandevilla, a barn style shed would be good between the crepe mertle for shadowing grow beds / micro climates, retired navy family
Welcome home! Looking forward to watching you grow in my zone and getting lots of great ideas for my own yard.
Oh, that's a fabulous blank palette yard!! I am so excited to see your masterpiece!
Thank you for allowing us on your journey.
Have you checked out Janey at Dig, Plant Water, Repeat?. She’s in California, in a slightly warmer zone, but also talks about Sunset Zones, for far west and southern states. Really interesting! Of course, everything Needs LOTS of water in the heat!
I love that area around those trees also.. ❤ so much you guys can do in that spot.. Beautiful House and beautiful property... Congratulations! I can't wait to see the place transforming into paradise.!
I'm glad you made it safely to Texas and love your new home. Great garden with so many possibilities, can wait to see what you do and the changes you will make. Love watching your videos.
Drive around look what is growing and check garden centres to see what they sell .
I’ve also tried to find others in central Florida who are in social media to follow but so far I haven’t found anyone. I will for sure follow you on your journey. I do follow Linda Vater who is in Oklahoma and I’ve been taking notes. I follow Jenny & Jerry at Creekside Nurseries in NC too and they’re selling PW plants online now. I will watch to see what plants of theirs are suitable for my zone, 9A, too. I’m used to zone 6A, so it’s completely different. And since I’ll only be in FL part of the year, I won’t be able to keep things in pots long term. I have been in touch with the master gardeners in the county, so I’m learning about the area. I’m struggling to find really big nurseries for the consumer- there are tons of wholesalers nearby. Good luck with your journey, glad you’re making videos again!
Congratulations on your new home. You have room for a veggie garden there. That’s a great big backyard. I know everything is going to be awesome when you get finished.
Consider using the dry river bed method where your obvious rain falls from your roof to divert or use .
Beautiful house. Love the brick. You will make the whole property beautiful!
you are going to have so much fun here... a blank canvas.. the backyard is full of possibilities.. and YES to the kitchen garden!! raised beds would look great (and easy on the back) with gravel pathways... looking forward to watching you develop your spaces 🥰
I'm picturing a Harley Green House in the back of the backyard! more a formal look and bring a depth/layer for the backyard!
Can’t wait to see how you design this large space , you definitely need Arbours and clematis, ramblers . Curved beds . Get some graph paper and lazer to measure.
Your local garden center is a good source for information and your area. Most local garden centers only sell what will grow in your area. Ask and they will help
I’m so excited for you guys!!! Look at all that SPACE 😮
How exciting! Huge back yard! It's so funny what us military families will move, besides plants we moved my horses, a pet sheep, dogs and cats (state side) our dog overseas.
Angie and Ambrose, so happy to have you back. Cannot wait to see your plans and evolution of your new garden space. Yeah you're back. ❤
Angie i just saw a video from the "The mad gardner" she lives in Texas zone 8 b and also buys many proven winners plants. Her plants maybe close to your zone .
@@dianacorderosanchez4244 I’m going to have to see her channel. Thank you soo much! 😃🙏💐💚
What a change! Such a different climate and a great space to experiment in ❤!
I see this wooden fence like on England, painted dark gray, navy blue or dark violet. I've seen it like this there and i think it's beautiful and goes well with plants. In my opinion, of course!😀
Zone 8b is not for the faint of heart! We are basically neighbors now ❤😊 Do you know your soil type? You can send a sample the Texas A&M and have it tested 👍 I highly recommend doing this.
Painting the backyard fence a dark color such as black would be amazing against all the green plants good luck to ur new garden
I am so happy for you with this move! So excited to take this journey with you...an extraordinary adventure awaits! I think with all the plants taking on new growth with the move, it is affirmation for your new garden chapter! Oh boy!!!! Missing you back here in VA though. So as Angie said, "Get Gardening"! ❤❤❤❤❤
We will miss Virginia the weather is just wonderful there and all the beauty to grow as well. If the plants don’t make it here we are definitely excited to plant things we haven’t grown in a long time here in TX. Definitely a whole new journey! 😃🤗🙏💐💚💚💚💚💚💚

Thank you so much! We are super excited to be able to garden in a new place here in TX! We missed home so much. 🤗💐🙏💚
@@GardenObsessions so happy you're HOME!
SHE SHED!😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
Will love to hear your plan for all the blank spaces!
Wow what a great new place! Congratulations and that yard, you can do so much back there! I find anything can survive with enough water, we have some very hot/dry weather and if I water daily they thrive in full sun. All in good time, don't worry you will get to it.
You are so right! Watering schedule with definitely be very beneficial to growing a beautiful garden. 🤗🙏💐💚
Happy to see you guys again. Welcome to my hometown of San Antonio! I love hydrangeas. Looking forward to seeing how your different varieties do in our climate, and hope to have more in my garden soon.
Hello! Happy to be home! 😃 We can’t wait as well to start growing hydrangeas and see how they do here. It’s going to be fun! 💚💚💚💚💚💚
Well Done making it to TX...sent Travel Graces! When we moved from East to TX we couldn't leave several of our plants either. After 2 rounds of TX seasons, we still have a lot and lost few...but the adventure is challenging and fun! I look forward to learning more from you both. Thanks Much and Congratulations on your NEW SPOT on this big blue marble!
I didn’t know you guys were from Texas. I’m happy for you that ya’ll are home!
Happy to be home! 😃🙏💐💚💚💚💚💚💚
Hooray! Congratulations on your new home! Can’t wait to see what y’all do in the garden!😍
You are so lucky to have the mountain laurel in your yard!! That smell is heavenly and they cost a fortune at nurseries. You are working with an almost blank slate. It's going to be beautiful.
🤗🙏💐💚💚💚💚💚💚

Wow so excited for you guys beautiful place can’t wait to see what you’re going to do with it I know it’s going to be amazing. Congratulations on your new home.
I have been waiting for this! Thank you!
My son and his little family lived in San Antonio when he was stationed there during his ARMY time of life. They really loved it there ❤
I am looking forward to watching your journey with this home!
Congratulations my garden friends. The new home is beautiful. I’m curious to know if you’re going to actually plant your plants OR will still be doing containers?
Love your new space! I know you will make it your own and can't wait to see what you do!! Get your rest!
I am loving it that you moved to a new house. I moved to my new house Dec.22 in Greenville, SC I believe it’s 7B so I get to mimick you as you build your new garden. I look forward to this new journey together this time. I will have to compare my progress and determine if I am doing it right. Thanks.
Maybe you could consider a Potager style garden on the south side? It would be fun to see veggies, herbs, and flowers, not to mention that the pollinators would love it. Ambrose could add another espalier tree? Could be beautiful ❤
Love Potager garden! 💚 I think Ambrose would love having another espalier tree! 😃🙏💐💚
Perfect back yard for a built in pool with a garden area surrounding it 🙂
Congratulations 🎊 you guys are gonna have alot fun! 😊
Can’t wait for the process. Good luck(
Wow! I just know y’all are going to transform them into a beautiful space
Just thought of another channel, 8A DFW area. She's pruning a Crepe Myrtle this morning. 😊
I have relatives in El Paso and I am not sure of their zone. Will share this video with them! I loved seeing your new yard! You two are so inspiring and I wish you all the best. ❤
Thank you! 🙏😃💚💚💚💚💚💚
Hi Angie & Ambrose. Wow!!! What a huge property & garden paradise project! This will be a very interesting new journey. Please do a how to grow daylillies in containers vid. Do I cut back the tattered leaves to the ground?
Hi! Thank you so much! We are super excited to start our new garden. Definitely will keep in mind a how to grow day lilies in containers video. You can definitely cut all the way down tattered leaves on the day lilies. 💚💚💚💚💚💚
I agree has been difficult to find channels from here in Texas
So glad your move went well. It is such a biiiiiig place! lol Im super excited how you guys are going to transform it!:)
Love your big backyard! Your dog is going to love running around there! Here in hot Phoenix I always have color year round. The best for summer is Portulaca Moss Rose. Always plenty of red, white, yellow, pink😊
Sounds beautiful!!! Your garden is the example of gardening in a challenging climate but still having beauty with that color! Love it! 😃🙏💐💚💚💚💚💚💚
Welcome back to Texas! I can’t wait to see y’all adapt to Texas gardening. San Antonio Texas is hot! The heat is brutal! Recently we had a record number of days over 100 degrees! Y’all came at a good time, temperature wise. Your plants traveled well considering the heat of the moving truck. Good thing you like container gardening because you’re gonna have to move plants around to keep them from getting scorched? I have one potted hydrangea and it must be covered to protect it from the sun. The heat requires it to be watered everyday! With the two of you working together, that blank landscape is gonna be beautiful! Happy gardening in Texas!
You have a wonderful place ❤
Can't wait to see how your garden evolves. I'm especially interested in how your hydrangeas do. I've bought so many to plant and they have all died. Even the ones in pots that I've had for years died this summer. 😢 If anyone can make them flourish it will be y'all. There is a small RUclips channel in 8B Texas I think it's called The Rocky Hill Gardener.
