Love the magenta entry door + arbour. The gatdener who creates this garden, and who convinced the city fathers to use STONE rather than concrete to construct thatwater canal -- at least where it passes through residential spaces, is a conpelling genius. A real, and an articulate, gardener would know how to persuade those folks. What an incredible gift to Raleigh, she is reaponsible for!
I go back and forth between wanting garden rooms and wanting big border gardens with an open middle. Depends on which garden tour I’m watching. So wishy-washy of me. ☺️Lovely garden!
@@heartofdixieprepping4797 I’m still thinking 🙂 At the moment my back garden has side and back borders and a large oblong center garden. I may connect the center garden (with a few taller shrubs) to the side border which would create a back garden room. Happy Gardening!
@@katherinec7698 that sounds great! I've started on small projects for next spring. I never realized there was so much to do in fall to prepare for spring. Happy gardening to you as well. 🧡💛🤎🍂🍁

Just nothing like a mature landscape! No matter the extravagance of a new planting, I love a garden where I can know the gardener by seeing what they've created & nurtured. Very nice space, just lovely use of their yard. Thanks Jim & homeowners!
Thanks you guys for doing this video. I have been dying to see one that resembles (I use the term loosely) mine. Mine is smaller, but is surrounded by big cedars, firs and dogwoods. I'm about zone 7b (just going a little below freezing now), full and part shade, with a spot or two of almost full sun. I'm grateful to the owner for sharing her garden. It is truly beautiful with so much variety. I have learned much from it and will watch it again. 💚
This is a BEAUTIFUL, purposeful, sweet garden. This lady must be a very lovely human being, with a lot of light in her eyes. Thanks for sharing this with us!!
A LOT of work and maintenance has gone into this beautiful garden. The casual observer would never know. Thank you miss for the tour. I bet you’re out in the yard right now!🌸
I love her gardens! And I really admire her for convincing them to use stone instead of concrete for the drainage creek. Now its a beautiful and surprising addition to the back garden. Her property is unique & maybe even challenging. Yet she didn't let that prevent her from making it stunning. Well done! Thank you Jim ,Stef, and the homeowner!
Yes, BIG thanks to homeowner for letting us see that beautiful garden, so cool to have the water running through it with the beautiful canal stone instead of cement. Shade has so much beauty! Thank you for filming it!
I am surprised to see only a few hostas esp where there’s hundreds of varieties. And no heucheras ! Def need texture layering with a shaded garden . I love how everything feels like it been there for hundreds of years. It’s like walking thru well curated trails in her garden
What an absolutely gorgeous garden with color and textures and layer upon layer. The homeowner has very lovingly cared for her garden. I envy her high shade., Tornadoes from Hurricane Dorian took out my big shade trees in my backyard. Please thank her for allowing us to see her beautiful landscape. Great video!
Ya never know what you’ll learn from one of Jim’s videos. I learned that magnolias lose leaves in May in my zone. That’s significant because we planted an expensive magnolia in March and I thought I had killed it because it dropped most of its leaves. What a stress reliever to know that’s natural! Thanks Jim!
The use of shade speaks to me. Some very large trees are changing my own garden over time. I particularly like limbing up woody shrubs into tree form. What a good steward of her garden. Admirable!
Thanks to the homeowner for allowing you to share her garden with us. It's just spectacular! I love all the changes in elevation and the beautiful rooms created. I would love to see it again in the fall and winter.
This is one of my favorite gardens you’ve toured! I always love a beautiful shade garden where someone has pushed the limits of what can be in part shade
Wow! What a wonderful treat to get to see such a beautifully established old growth Raleigh garden. For someone who lives at the beach in NC I don't get to peak in the back yards when traveling through Raleigh--but some of the home gardens I see from the road are so special and cared for there. Thank you again for the joy of getting a tour through this gorgeous NC landscape.
I have a lot of hilly areas and this gareden has really shown me what's possible (and also confirmed moving my rhododendron to the top of one of those hills was a good move.) Maybe in 30 years I'll have a beautiful space like this, too! Just gorgeous.
Of all the garden tours, this one resonates with me the most given the steep slopes and shade! What she's done with her garden gives me hope! Thank you and the homeowner for sharing her beautiful garden with us!
Thank you touring a shade garden. We have more shade than Sun at our home and it has taken me a few years to reset my mind, having lived in a home with no shade. I’m beginning to value the layers of green.
Can u tell us more about what’s going on beneath the soil line on hilly areas that makes them “well drained”? Not sure I understand what you were saying…. Maybe a whole video on it or maybe cover it in a Q&A?
wow ... a magnificant garden indeed ... so many different and diverse plants & shrubs & trees ... it must bring a great deal of joy to the homeowner ... please pass along my thanks to them for allowing us to wander thru, with you, on a lovely spring day !!!!
So beautiful the elevation change is kinda crazy in such a short amount of space. Guessing the recently redone area the ivy was probably just gotten back under control. As it is all though that canal and loving its life with all that moisture then the seeds just float down the water spreading its self all about
I love how the potted flowers along the stairway coordinate with the house door and awning. Very beautiful, mature garden! I love all of the layers! Thank you for the tour.
Her garden is really beautiful! I'm curious how she's watering it all? Thank you for sharing these mature gardens. Gives us great ideas and inspiration.
That iris in front at beginning almost looks RED! Never seen red one before so I’m going to be looking for that❤️ Favorite color in any garden is green!
Absolutely love that garden. You said they’ve lived there for 40 years so I am assuming they’re a bit older, how on earth do they maintain that place or do they have landscapers that come and do a lot of of it? That property would be my dream. I’ve learned so much about under planting from you and I’ve started my young garden by taking what is here and making the most of the property. I’m having fun TRAINING shrubs into trees, and under planting with wonderful new plants. Thank you for all you do to help us new gardeners out.
I love the idea of succession perennial gardening. Always something to look forward to! Also, interesting concept about limbing up trees, to allow more light.
Thank you for a mostly shade garden tour. Our new-ish home is mostly shade and it has taken me a while to appreciate the beauty of “just” foliage, having had a landscape with almost no shade prior.
I love this gorgeous property! It has inspired me in Florida with my tall oak trees in my yard making most of it part shade. Thank you so much for taking the time to walk through this garden. I am saving it.☺️
Thank you so much to you and the homeowner. I have a very steep backyard and love the way this garden makes that an asset. I will be watching and rewatching to steal some ideas for my own space. Absolutely beautiful garden. I see a lot of work and love in this garden. ❤️🌸
Hi. Greetings from Madoc,Ontario…I’m new to your channel and just love your tutorials…I was looking at you planting peonies I planted two garden beds..five in the biggest garden and 4 in the smaller bed. Those peonies are spreading a lot. I will need to dig out and replant sometime soon. I bought a yellow hybrid half price for 40 dollars for it and never regretted paying that much for a plant. I look forward to ch3cki g out your videos. Happy gardening to us all. Blessings

Thank you, home owner! You certainly like to garden. You’ve got to be out there every day to keep it so nice.
I can tell the birds are also a big fan of her garden.
I go back and forth between wanting garden rooms and wanting big border gardens with an open middle. Depends on which garden tour I’m watching. So wishy-washy of me. ☺️Lovely garden!

I opted for open views that I can see from my porch and windows, as I am in zone 6b in PA.
Just nothing like a mature landscape! No matter the extravagance of a new planting, I love a garden where I can know the gardener by seeing what they've created & nurtured.
Very nice space, just lovely use of their yard. Thanks Jim & homeowners!

I like the idea of letting plants limb themselves up.
That intro was fire. Love it.

I am so jealous of the contour that Piedmont gardeners get. Here on the coast everything is flat. We all covet the conditions other gardeners have.
Wow what a beautiful garden!! I love those pink iris by the beautiful door!!
So beautiful!!! I love the hills and slopes and rooms it’s perfect! Great find!!! I love these neighborhood tours of “ real” gardens 🌿🪴🌺💚🤍🍀☀️😀
Yes, BIG thanks to homeowner for letting us see that beautiful garden, so cool to have the water running through it with the beautiful canal stone instead of cement. Shade has so much beauty! Thank you for filming it!
Now that is a garden delight! Wow how exquisite! Only the love of a gardener and time can create such a beautiful space! Thank You for sharing!
🌿 ~Wow! Totally gorgeous garden! Destinations, rooms, secret spaces, wooded & tranquil, textures, colors, beautiful shrubs & limbed up trees! ~A well-planned work of art! Just explodes w/interest! My kind if garden! ~❤

The garden of my dreams! It's hard to even realize there's a city surrounding it. So peaceful, so lovingly tended. Thanks for this tour.

Love that garden and frequently walk pass it during morning walks! She has done an amazing job. I am in awe.

The canal really encourages wildlife, I'm sure. Lots of birds, maybe frogs too. Likely some drawbacks but the rock work is gorgeous.
Beautiful! Enjoyed the Tour Very Much. Thank you
I love how the potted flowers along the stairway coordinate with the house door and awning. Very beautiful, mature garden! I love all of the layers! Thank you for the tour.
Her garden is really beautiful! I'm curious how she's watering it all? Thank you for sharing these mature gardens. Gives us great ideas and inspiration.
Once you have an established garden such as this one, that has been there for years, there is very little, if any, watering to be done.
A beautiful mature garden. I enjoyed the tour Jim😊❤️😊
Wow! Garden goals!
I don't know how you come across all of these amazing gardens, but wow! Thanks for sharing with us!

Such a stunning space, in general and especially given all the shade. So glad she let you film it. Thank you for sharing and for the inspiration!
What an exquisite garden and space. I wonder, is this irrigated or is she able to rely on the natural precipitation? Certainly a labor of love.

Stunning garden. Much thanks for the tour from you and the homeowner.
Jim, love your videos. This garden is so luscious. I wonder what does she do with all the prunings and end stage plants? Compost? Trash?
Beautiful garden. Thanks to you and the homeowner for the tour. Definitely will watch this video again.
Absolutely amazing. What a beautiful landscape. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice! You can see the decades built into this garden. I wonder if she does it all by herself like me.
amazing garden!!!
Thanks to Jim and the home owner for the tour, loved it
