I am in 6b and my Supertunias come back every year if i leave them in the basket on the deck over winter. In early spring, i see a little growth and i cut back the brush, give them fertilizer and before long a beautiful fresh basket of flowers. Yay!!
I'm a clearance rack junkie ! 😁 I had gotten so many plants off there, that had no identifier, no clue what it is. Take it home, water, fertilize, after repotting and within 2 days I fall in love. ❤ if they have new growth, or enough to propagate, ill buy it !. Prices are reduced and most just need some TLC !
This was a great project and always wondered about the different petunias available. Appreciate your taking the time to demonstrate your experience and expertise that we benefit from. 😊
This video popped up in my RUclips feed and I subscribed. I'm glad I did because I enjoy this type of content, actually anything garden-related peaks my interest. Now, I'll go watch more of your older videos. Have a great weekend.
Today is May 8, 2024. Thanks for doing this video, I am motivated to now purchase and maintain petunia basket for this summer. The info on the types of petunias really helps. Thanks.
Once i was at home depot and huge secion of plant's was dry as desert BUT luckily for those plants i found water hose near it and waterd them haha manager came and said she is embarrassed and she should pay more attention 😂 they give me employee of the day sticker 😂
This was a good video for me. I'll be playing with petunias in baskets and planters on my porch in a couple of weeks. This explained some things for me. Thank you.
Blossom massacre lol ahhhh! I did it to my purple petunias at the end of august to show my sister it only hurts for a minute and boy did they come back with a vengeance 😎🙌
This was a SUPER helpful video! I have often felt like such a failure with petunias. But now I know! Spend the extra money for a quality plant, bigger pot, and better fertilizer. SUCCESS.
You're brilliant and pack a lot of information into a fairly short period of time. This is only my second year to grow petunias, although they've been a huge favorite for years. I was afraid to try, honestly. I'm a roses 🌹 person, usually. My husband did the re-potting 2 years ago. Sadly, he was diagnosed with terminal cancer and passed away March 1st. The ones he did were actually spectacular. I decided in his honor, I'd plant petunias as well as this year. You've been so much help. Some other people didn't give enough information. I don't need anybody to skip a single step right now!!! I'm preparing to re-pot my petunias. You have another video im returning to for this. Wish me luck! This is important to me in more ways than one 🌹🪴💕💕🪴🪴Once again, thank you so much for sharing your wealth of information with us ! Oh, I'd also like to thank some of the people in the comments. You have such a knowledgeable following ❤
Sending you all the best! I'm glad you found the video helpful. May your petunias bloom beautifully. Regardless of the outcome, your dedication to honoring your late husband is truly admirable. Take pride in every moment you spend nurturing them. I agree, the comments have been incredible!
I bought (at half price) a rose off the 'hospice shelf' at my local box store at the end of summer. When I got it down from the relatively high shelf, I saw it was sicker than I had thought, but I couldn't just say 'go back and die', so I took it/her home & did what I could. Then I was unexpectedly away for 3 months & assumed I'd find it had 19:26 died in my absence. Not so, & I just trimmed her & left her under cover for the rest of the winter. Come spring, she was putting out healthy, lively growth; I planted her in a well-amended hole in full sun, and she (now named 'hospice Rose') produced lovely red blooms and looks ready to do so again this summer. Now I look regularly at the orphans' & hospice shelves there for my next Dickensian garden chapter. Never underestimate the recovery power of neglected plants. (I don't take in animals!)
Roses are much heartier than a lot of people realize! Which is part of the reason I've been growing them the last 15 years, partially. They're so gorgeous, there are so many varieties and I have several of them. Something that's been incredibly interesting is how some come back in completely different colors some years or even in mixed colors. I made sure to plant the white ones especially far away from the colored ones. It also said knockout when I bought them, and looked like knockouts. They're red, pink, white and climbing this year! I'm having to tie them up, way up. I'll cut them back drastically next January or February. I'm not afraid to barber a rose lol. They come back better than ever. These caught me by surprise this year. Flowers are such wonderful, beautiful things to plant, watch grow and fill my yard with as much gorgeousness as I can ❤❤❤❤
Love this experiment to show you what we deal with when we shop outside of a greenhouse. Your dedication to helping your followers is always appreciated 😊 Sadly, my local wal mart has the dying/dead plants way too much and way too often. If that’s not sad enough, rarely can you get a deal to rescue these poor plants
I agree & do the same as you. Sometimes you can find something but more often than not, there doesn't seem to be anything that you feel is worth buying.
Thank you so so much for this before and after video!! So many times I’ll watch a transplant video and never find the follow up. This was so much fun to watch, thank you for the time you spent filming and editing this
I love to rescue plants also. Last Summer I rescued a gardenia and another perennial. I already had both plants and didn’t have room for then so I gifted them to my neighbors.
I have had the best luck with petunias and having fun trying different ones. The supertunias have also performed very well for me. I learned from this video that I may be overwatering and not fertilizing enough. Very helpful video!! Thank you.
My brother lives at 9,000 feet in Colorado and has a petunia that is gigantic that he grows inside his house! It’s about 5 years old and it is really magnificent!
I also live at 9000 in Colorado 🤗 I have great luck with my geraniums in and outdoors year round. But not with my petunias, however they are one of the best showy summer bloomers!!!

My mom gave me a bunch of her old planters a few years ago, and some gorgeous purple petunias grew in one of them and it turned me into the biggest petunia fangirl ever. I love these flowers. They're easy to keep growing and they flower and flower and flower!
Thank you, Corey, for providing such great information. I am so excited to try my hand at more petunia and SuperCal petchoas! Will be on the lookout for Bees Knees petunia, as well!
Corey, Thank you for this video. I love petunias but I struggle to get a beautiful result with hanging planters. I have learned quite a bit from this video. I look forward to trying petunia planters again this year.🌸
The basket I was gifted from Lowes was crammed with plants and I repotted them. I added two more, but probably could have done a third. They're thriving now in our mild Florida spring, zone 10b, and I'm looking forward to seeing how far into summer they survive. Thanks for your ideas!
I’m so glad I found this, I am about to transplant my wave petunias from a small hanging basket to a large one, because they are drooping and root bound🙌🏾
Hello my home state of Michigan! My school used to compete with Posen Junior High and High School in sports 😊. Surely miss Michigan and the plants & the birds from there! Helpful info on Petunias.
Great tips, very helpful and inspiring to be honest to be more strict and regular with the fertiliser 😅 and not to be scared to cut back because it pays off ❤
Just recently found you, in Cbus ohio. Going to shop this week and will be definitely looking at the wave or supertunias after watching this video and reading the comments. Thank you for the "long view" video. So helpful!❤👍
I have never been able to grow petunias they always look like crap and never do much. But thanks to you. I’m going to try it again this year and see if I have success.
I couldn’t watch the cutting back of the petunias! It’s as if I am cutting myself. Just can’t do it! However I really enjoyed the rest of the video. It gave me an incentive to get started! Thank you for the information.
Love the start to finish videos & I feel I have learned a lot about petunias in hanging baskets - #1, I don't fertilize mine enough! And #2, I'm going to seek out the wave or better/modern type petunias. -- They're just beautiful! Thank-you for doing this!
Just came across this video and was most interesting. I am in the UK and I always buy reduced plants from our garden centre to see if they can be given some TLC and come back to life. Most of the time it is just a bit of watering, repot and they are happy. If they dont then I have not wasted too much money. I am a fan of the Crazytunia Petunia Kermit Rose although this year I was not able to get any. I think for next year I will give the "Wave" a go as they look amazing. Thank you. Best Wishes from N. Love your video. I always have trouble with my baskets. I thought it was because they were just grown out. But now I know that I need to transplant them for them to preform longer. I too live in Michigan.
Transplanting can make a big difference. I’ve seen people keep those smaller baskets looking pretty good for a long time, but they are very good at watering and fertilize a lot.
Great video! Everyone loves petunias, especially super-petunias or waves. It’s almost time to make a few big pots of petunias & something? For the front porch which gets full sun all day except for the evening. Please do some more of these videos showing how you potted these and the stuff we would need to do it. Thanks.
I dumped my (annual) petunia containers on the ground to make use of the potting soil. They re-seeded themselves for two more summers although in different colours both years, than the originals. Gorgeous though. Tough little things, deadheading's the thing. I always buy the rejects at the nursery and they bounce right back.
My goodness, i think I saw a replay of Morticia Lololol!! Just had to put that in my comment Lol!! I so love petunias and I love the old-fashioned purple ones because they are so fragrant. Superbells are really bright and beautiful but no fragrance. Wish they could do a new mutation to include fragrance in them. Mutation is probably the wrong word, but you will know what I mean. Wonderful experiment. And comparisons. Taking longer to hide the spent blooms is definitely something we can choose when selecting modern plants. I would be interested in seeing some coneflower comparisons... there are just so many varieties now, are they all the same in regards to needing deheading for continual blooming? Are there more improvements as opposed to just visual differences (and similarities), like earlier blooming thus longer season?
Thank you so very much! I'm so glad to have found your channel and just in time. We just bought a white brick house with boxwoods going all around the perimeter. No other colors but white and green. I wanted to figure out how to add those pops of color and I was just started buying petunias last year and hadn't known what to do with them. And have you ever tried to overwinter them? If so, did you ever have success with it?
I’ve never tried to overwinter petunias. I find the pinks and yellows offer a good bit of color. If you’ve got a spot with lower light, try impatiens or New Guinea impatiens or begonias.
Loved the start to finish style.

Are there more improvements as opposed to just visual differences (and similarities), like earlier blooming thus longer season?
LOVE start to finish.
This was a great video done on my birthday June 21st😊
I use the fish blood and bat poop lol , works great on everything and in my vegetable garden
Loved it and learned a lot. THANKS
Excellent idea for people are struggeling with their plants.
Loved the start to finish videos. If you water everyday, are gone for a few days, will your plants die, will they recover??
