Reese says how he always wondered what was on Sarah's mind when the photo was taken....at the very end we learn it was Sarah eulogizing Reese. That to me is the heart of The Terminator.
@@DarlingMissDarlingbut who sent Kyle the first time around because there was no john conner in the first ever timeline a guy from the future didn't just have kid with a woman from 1984 then there son grows up sends a his dad back to the past to impregnate his mum there only one explanation that kyle somehow was sent to the past by whoever that guy met sarah and he did what he's not supposed to do have a sex with someone from the past. let alone get them preggers but this change the timeline forever and changed the future of the world by john becoming a "savior" for the future and john putting two two together realise this kyle is my dad
@nikothehero799 I definitely love female power. That's why TCCC was my favorite sequel. To me that was absolutely the best companion to the 1 and 2. Salvation stood out as a good one also but since Fox canceled TCCC none of the following movies fit the human storytelling.
I just watched Salvation (wasn't the first time) last night (at least up until I feel asleep). I still think that it is a very underrated film. I still find the cast to be likable (especially Anton Yelchin, AKA Chekov, who as it turns out, was indeed killed by his own machine, and may he rest in peace). Also, indeed a good cast with a strong female lead balanced with good male leads. But what I really loved was all of the different Terminator designs. You can tell that the concept artists went all out, and in Salvation, you have as many different mech designs, that you might confuse this for a live action anime adaption! In Salvation, you have: Early versions of the Hunter Killers. Apparently A-10s unfortunately don't do well against these, and it appears that the Resistance is fresh out of air-superiority fighters, which would stand a better chance what are apparently maneuverable aircraft. Large fucking humanoid Harvesters (lets face it: you know you want to see a Gundam fight one of these!) T-600s: the early Skynet foot soldiers T-1s: the early wheeled mooks Moto-Terminators: these are literally motorcycles that will try to kill you! Hydrobots: these look like early versions of the small Transformers that would later appear in the live action films. Could be the same concept artist! And finally my favorite: the wicked-looking Transport, which is capable of docking it's own HKs, and has a humanoid defense turret. This thing is wicked! I'd also like to note that at this point, only Skynet possesses directed energy weapons, and these appear to be less refined than in the films set later in the future. This hints to me that the Resistance eventually must reverse engineer Skynet's design, and eventually obtain the means necessary to manufacture them. It's a nice attention to detail.
I agree with you labeling T1 as a horror movie. I once had a vivid nightmare about being pursued by a Terminator; this was the single most terrifying dream I’ve ever experienced. A large, bullet proof robot relentlessly hunting you specifically down is an absolutely dreadful scenario.
Not an unheard of scenario actually, as this is quite literally where the Terminator concept came from, James Cameron had a nightmare of a metal skeleton walking out of a blazing fire to chase him...
@jessebonacci6525 A Terminator is literally the last (non-supernatural) movie monster I’d want to be trying to kill me! Now that I think about it, the Terminator is the only horror movie that doesn’t require the protagonist making stupid decisions for the killer to be effective. Staying in large groups, not going out at night, locking your doors and even having a massive arsenal of firearms available doesn’t do shit to stop one.
I agree I always thought salvation was way better then the bad press from people. I always thought it was a great call back to the first 2 and continues the story. I agree the weapons missing is a issue.
Probably bad press from Christian Bale yelling in that voice note at the camera crew, idk. I remember that overshadowing the film for a bit and the shite CGI Arnold
The Terminator lore has always been constructed with great depth & consideration, which is why I find it crazy that only the first two films succeeded with the concept & story so well. I like the third one too tho.
Hell, I like all of them, for their own merits. There is no perfect movie. The main reason 3 through 6 were "poorly recieved "is this. T2 exists. It was a home run, almost flawless. It didn't set the bar high, it Became the Bar, by doing something sequels almost never do. Surpassing the orogonal, like the first film was sitting in Park, with the parking break on, taking a nap behind the wheel. And The Terminator is a defining, genre creating, gem. It's like watching a debut MMA or boxingmatch that's over, new guy wins, in seconds, against a too notch opponent. But the next 48 matxhes, all but two wins, take between 5 and 11 rounds. That first match, if never repeated, is always the standard that fighter's carrer is judged by. With T2 out there, and still The conversation, the rest made money, and would be seen as well performing, but it ain't that uppercut at 23 seconds into round one, that put him in the spotlight.
The third one actually holds up pretty well, in my opinion. Not perfect, some corny scenes and lines here and there but overall, still feels like a Terminator film. Hell of a twist at the end too when you watch it for the first time. I wish I could watch it for the first time again, just for that reveal!
I don't find it crazy, I find it disappointing. Putting a great idea/franchise in lesser hands for the sole purpose of making money is never going to be a formula for a good movie. It is a formula for making money, which understandably is what studios' highest priority is.
I like that they gave John a wife. It actually makes him vulnerable and gives him more motivation to win. It makes him more relatable and shows us that he's still only human
I totally agree with ya My canon will always be T1 to T4 with a little bit of terminator resistance and THATs IT The films after that can ALL GO F THEMSELVES RIP Terminator
The Sarah Connor Chronicles was awesome, with a few slower moments, but I found those moments filled in the character development well. Lena Heady was a fantastic successor to Linda Hamilton and loved the direction the series was going. Was gutted when I found out it was cancelled (stupid Fox) and a review of it would be great!
Yeah, Lena was excellent as Sarah even Linda would've been proud I saw some episodes of the show & liked what I saw I think Emilia would've made another great Sarah Conner but they had terrible writers who didn't give her anything to work with. Her chemistry with Arnold was spot on I rather watch the movie with just her & him but the chemistry with Jai was awful his as Kyle I'm thinking "Dude I rather you just be killed off already I really didn't want him getting with Sarah I'm waiting for Aquaman to show up & wooing Sarah away from him lol."
Not to mention Summer Glau stole the show. Her depiction as an infiltrator terminator was so convincing. She had the menacing dead look of a terminator, yet she could have the grace and innocent looks of a cute girl. Loved the fact she could be a total femme fatale and could switch emotions all the time when the mission required it.
I think John distrusting Marcus was because of the future of Terminator 3 where a Terminator came in looking like the infamous T-800 killed him and Kate reprogrammed it and sent it back. So I could see John being non trusting of Terminators after that in Salvation. Also I think that Skynet was developing the Fased Plasma Rifle with a 40 watt range, therefore in Salvation the guns were still from the 2010/2020 era with no lasers yet, til Skynet developed it and gave their machines major upgrades. I think the resistance was destroying some machines and taking their lasers and plasma rifles.
@@greenkoopa Those were very icon lines to us little kids when we first watched this. I would go into a little mom and pop store and jokingly ask the main clerk if he had a UZI 9Millimeter and a Fased Plasma Rifle with a 40 watt range and he would laugh and say only what you see here kid, then I would say, WRONG 😑. Even though he should say, Buddy you can’t do that first lol 😂 He was a neighborhood friend to myself, my parents and everyone else in our neighborhood and he watched the movies too, and knew all the quotes too lol 😂. He also had great arcade cabinets in his store too, Mortal Kombat 1 & 2, Art of Fighting and Street Fighter II Championship Edition. God the original Terminator movie and Judgment Day are both timeless classics with very memorable moments and quotes.
@@jerrym1218 haha! You've mistaken the line "WRONG!" Arnie says it in Commando right after they take his daughter, he blasts the guy sitting in the chair. It was a great kids movie, especially when Bennett Let Off Some Steam
@@greenkoopa He says it to the gun shop guy too after he says buddy you can’t do that. He then says WRONG! Boom!! He also did WRONG in Commando too you’re right, to the guy that tried to negotiate terms with him for his daughter lol 😂 Arnold wasn’t having it.
I love this video. I just wanted to point out though that in Terminator 3, the female terminator was not going after his ‘friends’ but individuals who would grow up to be his lieutenants and other major players in the resistance. John is like in is early 20’s while several of the people she goes after are teens (working at a burger joint; at a house party). I think it’s better that he doesn’t know them and that there isn’t any emotional connection between them and John. They were kids just living their lives who would grow up to help change the world. Its really messed up…entertaining though
Salvation takes place years before the future that’s shown in the first 2 movies. During salvation Kyle is still super young and the T-800’s are just being developed. That’s why there’s so many older models in the movie.
Please do a video on the show! Like you mentioned I was a teen when this show came out & still to this day think the show deserved another season. Lena did an amazing job playing Sarah and I think it had the better storyline after the events of T2 compared to the movies.
39:11 Skynet doesn’t launch “all the missiles and bombs around the world…”. It only had control of the U.S.’s and launched them at Russia, triggering Mutually Assured Destruction
I feel that the Terminator universe is the trajectory we’re headed in, and it’s one we’ve been on for a long time. But instead of facing off against artificial intelligence, humans will be fighting each other - the machines will just help facilitate that. Remember, “it’s in your nature to destroy yourselves”, and humanity is just that divided to battle a common enemy.
I understand a lot of the problems people have with the Terminator franchise in general and I don’t blame them but for me Terminator will always be apart of me because I too was introduced to Terminator when Salvation came out back in 2009 and when that happened I fell in love with the Movies, the show, the comics, action figures and Terminator Resistance is such an underrated game.
Actually, Genisys is not a sequel to Salvation, since it bases its premises only on T1 and T2 (Judgment Day happens in 1997; John finds Kyle while he's still a kid, not a teenager). Even on the writers' admission, it totally disregards anything that came after the first two.
The best way to describe the multiverse is how Avengers Endgame and Back to the Future 2 explained it. You create another timeline when you go back in time. Even Reese mentions "possible futures" in the original Terminator film. The reason why later Terminator films had different actors playing John and Sarah, is because there from the multiverse. The same time travel rules still apply there however.
22:52 omg this is one of my favorite actors. His death is so sad... Rip Anton Yelchin. I knew him from Odd Thomas which was a great book and movie. He was also good in Fright Night, as you said he was truly an underrated actor. Also if havent watched Odd Thomas watch it.
I love the first two Terminator movies but rewatching them gets really eerie with all the AI advancements we're getting lately, I hope James Cameron isn't like the Simpsons writers where he can predict the future because now we're only 6 years away from the apocalyptic setting of the first Terminator movie let that sink in 😳😂😅
That Simpsons reference lmao. And yeah with everything happening nowadays, it really doesn't seem like this is too far out of the realm of possibility. We've all been talking about Zombie apocalypses but the future of the Terminator is far more realistic.
@@thethriftytypewriter don't let my words make you feel bad. You've reached a very important milestone! 🐢 However you have joined the Koopa Troop now so that's something
@@thethriftytypewriter I deleted the comment because I don't want to spread negativity. I already have it bad enough with Italian mercenaries always trying to jump on me 😢🐢 Have a great day
Terminator Salvation is a great movie. I know alot of people didn't like it. But it was done well. No time travel needed and it was still pretty well the begining of the war with the machines.
Furlong did loads of other really good films after T2, with really good performances too.. In Pecker he's excellent. In Animal Factory he's great. In American History X he's pretty phenomenal. The reason, as far as I can make out. Which is 100% plausible. Why he went on a downward spiral was because his agent, or an agent molested him.
Can we not say that every child actor has been groomed and molested. As a matter of fact when you hear more child actors talk about what stunted their careers it was the audience(us) not being able to see them as adults. A child actor has 10 to 15 years at best to shine..while an adult actor can shine for 50 years.
Terminator: Resistance did an excellent job at bringing back the old T1/T2 atmosfear (yes, "atmosfear") of the Terminators, the decrepit & torn down cities, the survivalist environment. Maybe we don't need a new movie or reboot (yet), but to revisit the Terminator Universe through a different lens. Waiting on a sequel to the game, too! 🤞
Funny enough that my worst impression of a Terminator movie is your best but for me Edward Furlong always was John Connor as I saw Terminator 2 - Judgement Day in the cinema as a kid. Twice. I practically grew up with it. I even had seen the first movie in advance. I loved T2 and still do! ❤️ 😅
For what it's worth, I believe Arnold was interested in being in Salvation, only he was governor at the time, so he wasn't able to do it. Superimposing his head onto a younger body builder for the factory scenes did make a lot more sense though. I don't think an aged Arnold stepping off of the assembly line would've made much sense lol (yes, I know the script would've likely changed to fit him in in a way that makes sense, were he able to be onset). Rise of the Machines was my childhood Terminator film, and to this day I still have a lot of nostalgia for it.
I don't think John is confused that Marcus can have human feelings or a flesh sheathed Terminator exists. I think he's just confused because it's not supposed to happen yet. This whole film he's unsure of the future his mother had laid out and if things are playing out as she had heard from Kyle and he has heard from the Terminators he's encountered. The appearance of Marcus, a Terminator that's never been mentioned by her or Kyle and how he is a flesh sheathed terminator compared to all the rubber skin ones in his current timeline. Not to mention he was totally passing for human up until the mine, which would be scary af because Terminators at this point have an uncanny valley behavior and Marcus passed every human social test. Also probably makes him think maybe they lost the war in the future and skynet has sent yet another terminator back to ensure success. I mean it's happened through his whole life at this point. That would also place a lot of doubt on him if he's ever actually going to win. In a weird way, him seeing the Arnie T-800 was reassuring.
Bingo. Yes, John knows Terminators can be "good" guys... But... He's only used to Arnie being a good guy, not Marcus. So of course he's skeptical. Keep in mind as well, in Rise, they mention specifically that they used an Arnie bot to kill John in the future
Linda Hamilton in T2 was a badass with obvious PTSD and trauma, Jon at several points has to be the "parent" but it doesn't take away from Linda Hamilton being a strong character. This is what modern writers forget that a hero needs some flaws otherwise there is no stakes.
Great video! One thing I need to push back on tho: In Salvation John is not surprised that a machine would act human. His shock comes from the fact that Marcus is obviously a machine but 100% BELIEVES that he is human. That is something he has never experienced before. He literally says this when he is talking to Kate.
HUGE Terminator fan here. Really quick: Terminator: Resistance, the 2019 video game, acts as if only the first 2 movies happened. We accept it as a cannon side story, as it greatly respects the source material. ALSO, Terminator anime series coming to Netflix, with a MA rating. So there is hope... haha
Yes yes yes, agreed! I love Salvation so much; it’s the one where we actually get to see the future. Also love how they incorporated Kyle, John & Marcus. And when Kyle & John meet omg chills. Also agree with your T3 review. People just shove it away, but it was actually good, nothing groundbreaking like you said, but good! The ending was what did it for me. The hopelessness with the music and Kate holding John’s hand always tugs at the strings.
I totally agree I grow up on TERMiNTOR 1 and TERMiNTOR 2 and when 3 come out I still loved it for what it was of pushing the story forward and when salvation came out I Absolutely love it that it was starting to make everything come full circle ⭕️ in direct continuity with the first 3 films Every other film after T4 however can yeah go F itself So with that said 1984 to 2009 RIP TERMiNTOR TERMiNTOR 4 really was the only future to have the right idea of actually going forward directly with everything
T2 is one of my all time favorite movies. It's practically perfect. Thank you James Cameron! I loved the first one too. The 4th one is pretty good. RIP Anton 😢 he was definitely great. Edward did a great job as John, I also liked him in other movies. It is really heartbreaking what happened to him. The worst John Connor was Nick & Jason. I also hated that they made him the bad guy too. What also kills me about movies in general, is when they don't even try to make John look like he could be the same person at all.
He was suppose to be in T3 but his partying ways got him removed from the project. Hopefully he got a nice little check for allowing them to use his likeness in Dark Fate...thanks to Crispin Glover.
The first 5 films all do fit in together. Up until Kyle time travels in 5 everything lines up. So really the only film with no explanation for not fitting is dark fate
This was a very well put together video. One minor issue I noticed is that the operating system controlling the machines in Dark Fate was called Legion, not Origin. Sorry to be that guy, but I am just being helpful. As for my experience with the franchise? Terminator is the franchise I care most about. I own each movie multiple times, own the Sarah Connor Chronicles and Terminator Salvation: The Machinima Series on DVD, own multiple NECA figures, have played a few of the games, I have even written a few analysis and essays on this series. I practically used to live and breathe this series. With that said, with Cameron proposing a idea for Terminator 7, and Arnold announcing he won't 'be back', I really would only want two options for this franchise to continue at this point. 1) Continue/conclude The Sarah Connor Chronicles. The fans would appreciate it, and it is an critically underrated series, as you mentioned, that deserves an proper ending 2) do an crossover with the other big man vs machine saga, that features religious subtext, characters wearing black leather and shades, and an lead actor known primarily more for his skills at action rather than his acting skills. That's right: do a crossover with the Matrix. Couldn't you imagine it? The resistance and the residents of Zion fighting off Terminators and Sentinels? Neo fighting off multiple Terminator models? Neo and John Connor teaming up? I mean, yeah, it could be ridiculously complicated to pull ALL of that off, but it could be really cool too. The idea is so good, it's why NeoConnor1 is my username on RUclips. I rather James stick to Avatar, as I huge fan of those two films, but if Terminator needs to continue, those two options would be of most interest to me, especially crossing over with Matrix.
Well from such a Terminator fan I’ll take your praise as a good thing! I have no clue why I thought it was Origin instead of Legion I just mixed up the words 😂 And yeah I think it would take a really big movie in order to turn this franchise around. What that movie is I’m not sure because it seems like they’ve exhausted just about all their efforts but with James Cameron talking about Terminator 7 I guess we’ll see 🤷🏻♂️
45:15 I love The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I just recently gave it a rewatch. To me, it was the direct continuation to Judgement Day. Leaving it wide open was heartbreaking. I agree they should do a conntinuation of the series. Sadly, the cast, imo, were essential so without them, it wouldn't be the same.
Yes exactly! That’s what I want to see. Cause John’s existence realistically has to be entirely by chance or fate correcting itself. Consider this, no matter what there is always a judgment day and they machines always eventually lose and create a Time Machine. The “no fate but what you make” is the lie
I feel the reason why John Connor was confused when he met Marcus was because terminators need to learn on order of them to feel and look like a human while Marcus looked snd felt like a human right off the bet and let not mention the fact that Marcus has a human heart
I actually liked Dark Fate. The line that Sarah delivers toward the end is awesome and fits her so well. “Because we’re not machines, you metal Motherfucker!”
The biggest problem with the terminator is that if the future is bleak and a dystopia, why do all the terminators look like body builders. Literally, all the resistance has to do is look for a well-fed guy that weighs 400lbs of pure muscle.
I think the T-800's and T-1000's respective entrances made it clear Arnie is the hero due to 'Bad to the Bone' playing in his entrance, even if the trailer didn't spoil it.
Even though the trailer spoiled it when it was released, it’s interesting watching others react to the twist now even with the advent of the internet where things are spoiled all the time. Minds were probably probably blown way back in ‘90-‘91.
Terminator's are robots who mimic human but Marcus was a human turned into a Robot or Cyborg, so the future has actually changed, it's changed from part 2 of the series.
That terminator salvation arcade game made me love the movie so much more. Being apart of the post apocalyptic war like that was so fun, and helped to flesh out the world for me in a way
As someone who honestly really enjoyed Dark Fate, I really appreciate your review on it and I think your criticisms on it were pretty fair! I do think the surviving T-800 story landed pretty well for me just because the idea of the successful terminator sticking around after its mission and not knowing what to do then is really interesting, and the conversation him and Sarah have at his house got me right in the feelings. Enjoyable video!
It was fun going down the timeline with you on this video. I was a very big Sarah Connor Chronicles fan. I own the two series. It was cut way too short. I'd love to see you watch them and go through it with us.
In Terminator: Salvation, I chalked up the fact John is surprised by a machine acting human is due to the fact he had to personally teach a machine to be human when he was a kid, years pass and small details escaped his memory and not to mention in T3 he was warned that his emotions to his boyhood experiences would get him killed in 2032 so Salvation started him as being emotionally disconnected, hence he told his people to destroy the captured Hydro-Bot instead of trying to reprogram it. Also, Marcus' story was supposed to be he replaces John as leader because John would die and he'd have John's face grafted onto him, but this was scrapped last minute. Hollywood doesn't get the franchise, that's why 1 and 2 were successful bcuz if Cameron LET Hollywood have their way with the 1st film, it woulda had Terminator-dogs and the movie wouldn't be as memorable. Fans still want more from the franchise, just so long as it makes sense and fits the lore. BTW, X-Men Days of Future Past was made BECAUSE of Terminator. Both the first Terminator and the comic Days of Future Past were conceived at roughly the same time and the DoFP director asked Cameron for advice on Time Travel when making the film.
If you play video games and want to experience the future war of Terminator that Hollywood never gave us then try Terminator Resistance on ps4 or ps5. I highly recommend this as I feel it serves as great follow-up to part 2 and you get to play through it also.
@jackmarshall3255 if you don't play video games but want to see this then I would recommend pulling up a full playthrough here on RUclips. I don't think you'll regret it.
I didn’t believe Danny. A small Mexican girl from nowhere with no training just happens to lead the resistance? That lady from live die repeat would have been believable. I would have made her something from a military family rather than a sweet family girl.
I was a kid riding my scooter down the street when they filmed T3. It’s the scene where the Terminator kills the cops & does a U turn. I’ll never forget that.
Big fan of the films and TV show, and now of this channel. Well done, here's my subscription. One thing though. It's been a minute since I've seen Dark Fate, and I'm not* actively fact checking, but wasn't the Big Bad to replace Skynet in this film named Legion? You called it Origin twice and made me do a double take. I could be wrong, if so... Please roast me.
Heck! Of course! After talking about the entire franchise my brain would be swiss cheese. I would be lucky to get the name of the films right. Keep On Keeping On! I absolutely would enjoy a video of The Sarah Conner Chronicles. I loved that show!
This series started going downhill after part 4. That's where the time travel aspects started to not make sense. It really should have ended after Judgment Day when the parts from the original Terminator were destroyed, the chip in Arnold's Terminator destroyed, the death of Miles Dyson, etc. However, I get that Judgment Day itself was inevitable and essentially only postponed. I get that! However, it did sort of kill it for me to know in part 3 that John would eventually die in the war, and his wife would take over, which is why the 3rd Terminator came back to destroy not only him, but his wife AND their lieutenants. It still made sense, although Nick Stahl and Claire Danes had absolutely NO chemistry in the film whatsoever, and I'm not sure if the mismatched casting was done intentionally or not. Moving forward, Salvation was weird being that we're finally catching up with the future where John Conner is actually older than his own father, who hadn't been born yet during the events of the first 3 films, which causes for a huge suspension of disbelief, but whatever. However, after that, it just continues to get more and more stupid with Skynet, which technically is not even supposed to exist in the future at this point, but is still somehow sending more Terminators back. And Dark Fate was just to appeal to "woke" and progressive crowd, which was just ridiculous. I think that by then they had given up on story continuity and started just making unnecessary sequels to get money. Don't get me wrong, Genisys was the absolute worst out of all the films, but Dark Fate really plays with our intelligence. They didn't even bother to make it make sense. I would love to know how Skynet, the original system that sent these Terminators back in order to save itself from destruction actually ended up undoing its own creation, and has been somehow superseded by Legion, which is the far more superior AI system, but neither Kyle Reese, John Conner, the original T-800, or the T-1000 (The more advanced model) knew that when they went back to 1984 or 1991. What the hell? Why even bother to get rid of the 2nd T-800 who was actually protecting John if Legion was only going to send in a Rev 9 to off him instead? It's funny how John himself did not know that when he reprogrammed the T-800 and sent it back from the future a second time, with absolutely no upgrades to make him more effective, I might add. After all, we are talking about AI and time travel. What the entire hell?
Had to chuckle while watching this! During your review of Genisys you said the movie is about our over reliance on technology. I realised I am watching this on my laptop whilst playing a game on my phone, scrolling through facebook, the husband playing his playstation and the robovac going round hoovering for us XD hahahahahaha
I was actually shocked, it was fun, keeping the original timeline but come the final act I was like sheeeeeet this is awesome, and sounds like we could be getting a season 2 🥰
37:22 ok this kinda un related but The Shazam Fury of The Gods did this really well, they had an African American women being a swat member for like 4 seconds and it wasnt in your face but it was there
First time with your channel and really loved this video. It shows a lot of love to the franchise, showing the successful elements of the movies that aren't received as well as the first 2. I personally liked Salvation, love is perhaps too strong a word. But I liked what they tried to do
It's weird calling the T-800 a cyborg. The Terminator isn't a biological entity with robotic parts, he's a robot with biological components. He's the opposite of a cyborg, in that truly he is an android: a robot that appears to be human ETA: maybe John's confused because he's the one who taught a Terminator how to feel, so finding one who can on his own is a hit to his ego/worldview? Edit 2: "I never heard good things about it" *posts Rotten Tomatoes score with 80% audience approval*
Hope I’m not too late about this. Just subscribed to you, you do great reviews of franchises. Can’t wait to see more. 32:00 back you thought about John Connor being the villain in genisys, even another YT channel, Nogalstic Critic wasn’t surprised he turn to a villain for the actor, Jason Clarke, wiki said he will often be the Antagonist. In the original script in Salvation ending, Marcus was supposed to replace John Connor by replace his face to John and also for John got stabbed in the heart by T-800. So Genisys could be alternate timeline where they did that where it make more sense why he got turn so easily for he was machine all this time.
The Sarah Conor chronicles was always one of my favorite terminator stories especially since salvation was the last thing before that felt different and was a rehash like genesis, ironically it was genesis that got me to like terminator 😂. The only thing they can do now is make a movie where it erases everything and some how starts the original story of 1-3, or they could show the end of the war where the humans and the machines actually make peace because like you said they’ve never actually done that part.
I saw Genisys in the theatre with another Terminator fan and we both liked it. I saw the trailer but he didn't, and it was cool seeing him get mind freaked by evil Connor
Dude, I am grew up with T2 and I still think that Salvation is by far the best Terminator. I think it was purposely undermined coz the OG studio wanted to buy it back after the film failed.
Timeline: there are only 3. First: Sarah has a normal life, meets a guy and they have a child, called John. Then Judgement day happens and he becomes the leader. But Kyle is not his father. 2nd: Terminator 1, 2 & Salvation. 3rd: Terminator 1, 2 & Dark Fate.
Should have stopped at T2, but, even so, still contradicted the first movie. Hear me out - It was established in the first movie, that Skynet had lost the war, and humans had breached Skynet's compound and were on their way to shut Skynet down. As a last-ditch effort and no time to spare, Skynet sends a Terminator back in time to assinate John Connor, to change the outcome of the war. This, too, fails. My point is, according to the first film, not only did mankind win the machine war, but Skynet could never have sent any more Terminators back in time, as it was in desperation the first Terminator was sent. Knowing this, everything afterward, including Terminator 2 should never have happened. Even though, T2 was a great movie.
“Lowest of lows” *Shows a screenshot of Genisys, instead of Dark Fate* Ok, so the video is already off to a very rough start, but it’s 47:00 mins long, and I love the franchise, so I’m going to keep watching. I have faith 🙂
I'd like to see Kyle Reese's story from when he joined the resistance to the final battle when he goes back to 1984. *Terminator: The Kyle Reese Story* Or a movie about how John Connor built the resistance against the machines. Did he raise an army from scratch or did he unify various resistance organizations under his command?
25:40 the reason he doesn’t trust Marcus with skin on top of his skeleton cause it’s to early in the timeline you said it yourself they was just starting the manufacturing the T800’s he was to advance from what he know and remembers
You know what's also funny all the actresses that played Sarah Connor worked with George R.R. Martin. Linda Hamilton in the Beauty and the Beast tv series Lena Heady and Emilia Clarke in Game of Thrones.
They made them worse by reducing the age rating. Also, how is it possible Emilia Clarke was older in Genysisisisis than Hamilton was in T1, yet looks and acts younger? You may not be old enough to know this btw, but from T2 onwards, plot aspects were meant to be twists that the ads ruined. We weren’t meant to know the T800 was goodnin T2. We werent meant to know Judgement Day happened in T3, we weren't meant to know Worthington was a cyborg, we weren’t meant to know Connor changes to a terminator but the ads showed all these twists. As a result, i absolutely wont watch ads for anything I want to see now!
I've never heard complaints about Furlong. Only complaints were from later in life with addiction. He just did a podcast with Michael Rosenbaum. He said his addiction and spiral from Hollyweird was from an addiction filled household.
The problem with the movies after T2 is: They don't get what Terminator is about. Terminator is a horror movie. Escape from a machine that cannot be stopped. The machine doesn't sleep, it's not afraid, it can reason with, it doesn't feel piti or remorse, and it won't stop until it kills you. That's what Terminator is about. A terrifying future. It's a nightmare. Terminator is not about time travel or syborgs from the future. That's why the franchise fails.
I don’t understand why Edward Furlong got so much hate. I thought he did a great job considering he was new to acting. He played a troubled kid growing up a product of child’s services without his biological mom and dad because of his mom’s acts trying to change future events from happening. He wasn’t so troubled as to lack morals and understanding, just a bit of a mischievous, troublemaker, getting into stuff. But, how he matured before our eyes once the terminator came into his life. I think he did a great job! It wasn’t over the top or cringy. It was a solid portrayal, strong performance in my book! Once again, him being a kid new to acting. People really need to examine themselves when they have the ability to use their words to tear down someone to the point of that person no longer wanting to do what they’ve previously enjoyed doing, especially when that person’s a child! That’s some sinister, lowdown work. Shoutout and blessings to Edward Furlong! 💪🏾🙏🏾
I like T1 T2 & Salvation dassit....brad fiedel doesnt get talked about enough as a composer. The terminator theme is flawless. The love theme is beauttiful. And he also did Fright Night. Come to me is one of my favorite themes
24:58 T-800 never really acted human, it simply tried to mimic the very basics of human behaviour. Nothing even close to how human Marcus 'acted'. T-800 also never had any human feelings. All of its motivations were always ultimately based on the primary objective it was programmed with. Even when it saved John or listened to John in the past it only did so because the future John programmed that as its primary objective, not because it had grown some feelings for John. Sure it had the capacity to learn so in the end of T2 it said it understood the value of human life, but it only 'understood' that - again no human feelings involved. And John hasn't been 'trusting skeletons with skin since he was a teenager'. Till then John had only met a terminator with skin once, and that too when it had time travelled to him and was explicitly said to have been programmed to help him. John had never met a machine with skin originating in the present simply happening to meet him. John also knew that the T-800 that saved him was an exception to anything that skynet made regarding their attitude to humans, so without getting a clear reason why Marcus wouldn't be harmful to the humans John is right to distrust him.
Reese says how he always wondered what was on Sarah's mind when the photo was taken....at the very end we learn it was Sarah eulogizing Reese. That to me is the heart of The Terminator.
wow, I cant believe I missed that. She was thinking of their son.
Damn same. Never realized. Sad the only people who know his role in saving humanity was his brief lover and his son
@@keikaider I think the irony was that he had wondered for all of those years what she was thinking of and it turns out she was thinking of him.

I personally loved Salvation. I think the story was great, we finally got to see the apocalypse war, see Connor try and save Kyle Reese
I liked salvation as well. To bad the fans are toxic and now we have women power
@@nikothehero799 yep. Salvation has been the best terminator film since the 2nd.
In Salvation, you have:
Early versions of the Hunter Killers. Apparently A-10s unfortunately don't do well against these, and it appears that the Resistance is fresh out of air-superiority fighters, which would stand a better chance what are apparently maneuverable aircraft.
Large fucking humanoid Harvesters (lets face it: you know you want to see a Gundam fight one of these!)
T-600s: the early Skynet foot soldiers
T-1s: the early wheeled mooks
Moto-Terminators: these are literally motorcycles that will try to kill you!
I liked it as well could have been better but was entertaining.
I agree with you labeling T1 as a horror movie. I once had a vivid nightmare about being pursued by a Terminator; this was the single most terrifying dream I’ve ever experienced. A large, bullet proof robot relentlessly hunting you specifically down is an absolutely dreadful scenario.
Sci fi horror In my opinion
imagine anther movie in the series that horror
Kinda reminds me of the fear inducing thought of the monster from it follows...this must of been a massive inspiration
I enjoyed Salvation as well. CGI Arnold was a bit shite, but other than that it was pretty solid.
The sequel to salvation by mcg was supposed to have Robert Patrick as a scientist and the advancement of plasma rifles, and time travel
Probably bad press from Christian Bale yelling in that voice note at the camera crew, idk. I remember that overshadowing the film for a bit and the shite CGI Arnold
Christian Bale's outburst has become remembered more than the actual film. I think that says alot....I mean " what don't you fucking understand"...😂
@@JediRyu99I never knew this! That makes me even more upset because I loved Salvation.
The Terminator lore has always been constructed with great depth & consideration, which is why I find it crazy that only the first two films succeeded with the concept & story so well. I like the third one too tho.
I agree. While I accept that 3 is rather flawed and cringe I saw it in the theater and love the Bad Ending. Nobody has the balls to do that
Hell, I like all of them, for their own merits.
The problem is the franchise got passed around and each director screwed the time line more n more till what we have now a mess
No he a virgin, He was familyless in Genisys. if there is anything closer to a lover, it's Cameron from TSCC
I totally agree with ya
My canon will always be
T1 to T4 with a little bit of terminator resistance and THATs IT
The films after that can ALL GO F THEMSELVES
RIP Terminator
Jai's version of Kyle Reese was one reason why Genisys was awful...But yeah, Pops and Sarah was not bad actually@@catspaw3092
Yeah fox are dumb and have cancelled loads of shows 😂
Damn I love Chronicles. It was amazing.

I don't care what people saying, T3 was actually a really good movie. It just couldn't measure up to T2, but nothing ever could.
Salvation takes place years before the future that’s shown in the first 2 movies. During salvation Kyle is still super young and the T-800’s are just being developed. That’s why there’s so many older models in the movie.
Terminator 1 and 2 are my childhood! I love these movies so much. Thank you for making this breakdown.
It only had control of the U.S.’s and launched them at Russia, triggering Mutually Assured Destruction
from x-men to terminator to the walking dead, ur really one of my favorite utubers
❤️❤️❤️
I feel that the Terminator universe is the trajectory we’re headed in, and it’s one we’ve been on for a long time. But instead of facing off against artificial intelligence, humans will be fighting each other - the machines will just help facilitate that. Remember, “it’s in your nature to destroy yourselves”, and humanity is just that divided to battle a common enemy.
Or we will be heading into a Detroit become human type of situation…
It’d never stated John finds him as a child. I always assumed he found him as a older teen/young adult
I’m glad someone is actually honest with their bias. I respect this review way more than other film reviewers.

Terminator Salvation is a great movie. I know alot of people didn't like it. But it was done well. No time travel needed and it was still pretty well the begining of the war with the machines.
I won't go so far as to say it's great but it's definitely good and doesn't deserve the hate it gets.
Would of be the beginning of a trilogy of a three movie war. Would of be awesome
It was his tutor who groomed him starting on the set of T2.
I’m glad some people are aware of this.
Can we not say that every child actor has been groomed and molested. As a matter of fact when you hear more child actors talk about what stunted their careers it was the audience(us) not being able to see them as adults. A child actor has 10 to 15 years at best to shine..while an adult actor can shine for 50 years.
loved this!!! Terminator 1 & 2 are some of my favorite films of all time and i really liked your insight on what didn’t work in the films after those.
Both my parents are fans of these movies and I grew up watching Terminator 2 many times and I remember everything that happens in it.
Sarah Connor Chronicles was amazing - watched it for the first time last year
It's fantastic
For what it's worth, I believe Arnold was interested in being in Salvation, only he was governor at the time, so he wasn't able to do it. Superimposing his head onto a younger body builder for the factory scenes did make a lot more sense though. I don't think an aged Arnold stepping off of the assembly line would've made much sense lol (yes, I know the script would've likely changed to fit him in in a way that makes sense, were he able to be onset).
Rise of the Machines was my childhood Terminator film, and to this day I still have a lot of nostalgia for it.
Finally Someone who thinks Salvation is a at least DECENT movie!
Almost anyone I’ve ever heard talk about Salvation says it’s decent lol.
I totally agree I grow up on TERMiNTOR 1 and TERMiNTOR 2 and when 3 come out I still loved it for what it was of pushing the story forward and when salvation came out I Absolutely love it that it was starting to make everything come full circle ⭕️ in direct continuity with the first 3 films
Every other film after T4 however can yeah go F itself
So with that said 1984 to 2009 RIP TERMiNTOR
TERMiNTOR 4 really was the only future to have the right idea of actually going forward directly with everything
I truly believe if the fame and ridicule didn't get to Furlong, He would have remained John Connor throughout the series.
You kinda have to ignore the beginning of Genisys when Kyle is a kid and John finds him. But after that part, it lines up well.
The fans would appreciate it, and it is an critically underrated series, as you mentioned, that deserves an proper ending
2) do an crossover with the other big man vs machine saga, that features religious subtext, characters wearing black leather and shades, and an lead actor known primarily more for his skills at action rather than his acting skills.
I have no clue why I thought it was Origin instead of Legion I just mixed up the words 😂
And yeah I think it would take a really big movie in order to turn this franchise around.
The first timeline we see in the first movie is really the second timeline. The first timeline was an unseen one.
Also known as the Alpha Timeline. Check out Terminator Wiki for more details.
Yes exactly! That’s what I want to see. Cause John’s existence realistically has to be entirely by chance or fate correcting itself. Consider this, no matter what there is always a judgment day and they machines always eventually lose and create a Time Machine. The “no fate but what you make” is the lie
Alpha timeline , when Skynet a revolutionary artificial intelligence system built by Cyberdyne Systems for SAC-NORAD.
Underrated video. Always nice to see someone talk about the terminator franchise.
I feel the reason why John Connor was confused when he met Marcus was because terminators need to learn on order of them to feel and look like a human while Marcus looked snd felt like a human right off the bet and let not mention the fact that Marcus has a human heart
This is the best review of Genisys I've seen. I am so glad to see someone not hating it! I am very sad we didn't get to see this story pan out.
I loved that tv show so much. Im still sooo mad about it being canceled.
@ 21:28 I remember being in the theatre with my brother and him saying “hey! That OG Triple OG” lol (Friday After Next Reference).
If the intro doesn't give it away the glittery pink star shades will lmao.
@@zakkmylde1712 that was in Terminator 3
Terminator's are robots who mimic human but Marcus was a human turned into a Robot or Cyborg, so the future has actually changed, it's changed from part 2 of the series.
The jammer wasn't a weapon to help the resistance it was a trap by Skynet.
Laz created it. There was a video game movie based on it. It was actually pretty good
That terminator salvation arcade game made me love the movie so much more. Being apart of the post apocalyptic war like that was so fun, and helped to flesh out the world for me in a way
I loved the TV show, so I would love for you to do a video about it.
Love how Robert Patrick keeps his eyes open while shooting at the mall
I kinda find T3, Salvation and Dark Fate to be over hated. They’re no where near as good as the first two films but they’re still entertaining.
Sarah Conner Chronicles please
It was fun going down the timeline with you on this video. I was a very big Sarah Connor Chronicles fan. I own the two series. It was cut way too short. I'd love to see you watch them and go through it with us.
for John😪😪😢👍
I stopped watching after terminator 2 because for me the series ended there.
If you play video games and want to experience the future war of Terminator that Hollywood never gave us then try Terminator Resistance on ps4 or ps5. I highly recommend this as I feel it serves as great follow-up to part 2 and you get to play through it also.
@@bradleyguy3054 oh I have never heard of that game I learn something new everyday.
@jackmarshall3255 if you don't play video games but want to see this then I would recommend pulling up a full playthrough here on RUclips. I don't think you'll regret it.
@@bradleyguy3054 okay I might do that instead of just getting the game that way I can see how much I like it then get it later and play it.
Genisys over Dark Fate is an ABSURD take
sorry had to say it currently watching your franchise breakdown playlist, you do a good job
Thanks man! And no I was in the wrong there, for some reason I just switched up the words 😂
Heck! Of course! After talking about the entire franchise my brain would be swiss cheese. I would be lucky to get the name of the films right.
Keep On Keeping On!
I absolutely would enjoy a video of The Sarah Conner Chronicles. I loved that show!
I just watched Salvation today 😂. I love Bale and Worthington, to have them both at the same time is a treat for me.
What the entire hell?
sotpw ith the time tervle make no secne is time tarvel real no so tell it is you odnt know how it works
Luckily Terminator Zero was pretty solid.
I was actually shocked, it was fun, keeping the original timeline but come the final act I was like sheeeeeet this is awesome, and sounds like we could be getting a season 2 🥰
"my channel...what I want"
Hell yeah! 👍
But I liked what they tried to do
35:29
Legion, not Origin, is the name of the machine system that tries to destroy mankind in Dark Fate.
It's weird calling the T-800 a cyborg. The Terminator isn't a biological entity with robotic parts, he's a robot with biological components. He's the opposite of a cyborg, in that truly he is an android: a robot that appears to be human
ETA: maybe John's confused because he's the one who taught a Terminator how to feel, so finding one who can on his own is a hit to his ego/worldview?
I grew up watching T2 lol. You're making me feel old but love your videos!
Another fantastic video!
TSCC and Terminator: Resistance (2019 video game) imo are the best pieces of terminator media after the first 2 movies
Great vid as usual
“Lowest of lows”
*Shows a screenshot of Genisys, instead of Dark Fate*
Ok, so the video is already off to a very rough start, but it’s 47:00 mins long, and I love the franchise, so I’m going to keep watching. I have faith 🙂
I'd like to see Kyle Reese's story from when he joined the resistance to the final battle when he goes back to 1984.
*Terminator: The Kyle Reese Story*
Or a movie about how John Connor built the resistance against the machines. Did he raise an army from scratch or did he unify various resistance organizations under his command?
Personally, love the first movie so much with the entire "show, don't tell." It's so good, other than the whole hindsight is 20/20 thing LOL
I think T-2 is the greatest sequel of all time. My personal favorite movie ever.
Do Sarah Connor Chronicles. I just marathoned the entire series. Superior in every aspect.
I came for a timeline video and got something way much better
I like T1 T2 & Salvation dassit....brad fiedel doesnt get talked about enough as a composer. The terminator theme is flawless. The love theme is beauttiful. And he also did Fright Night. Come to me is one of my favorite themes
24:58
T-800 never really acted human, it simply tried to mimic the very basics of human behaviour.
Dark fate is underrated and the third best terminator movie in the franchise.
Great video!
