Me personally, I'd never go into a cabin in the woods again (but especially THAT cabin) once I was lucky enough to get out of the situation alive, so why would they?
That scene always just felt it was there to explain the smell that was bothering Mia, that lead them to the basement, so they could find the book...and it'd be a good guess that one of those people is who probably wrote all the warnings in it and wrapped the book up...but of course there was the one dumb guy in the current group who couldn't leave it alone, lol.

Evil Dead 2 used to be my favorite but after a couple of years I found myself rewatching Army Of Darkness the most. It’s the most rewatchable, entertaining and unique. Although I don’t think 2013 and Rise are canon to the main trilogy. There is a multiverse, we know this because of Evil Dead The Game and comics, so yes, I do believe theirs a universe where the other two books in Army Of Darkness could be the 2013 and Rise books but the universe we see play out in the main film trilogy is Ash’s own adventure. Mia survives her own nightmare in her own universe and Beth is having family problems in hers

When my mom was away he would let me watch a horror movie and The Evil Dead series (wasn’t a franchise at the time lol) was one of the first we watched and I’ve loved them ever sense. The evil dead rise might be my favorite out of all of them (mainly because I prefer horror over comedy but I could see how ED2 or AOD would be most peoples favorites) just because of the lore of the 3 books coming back into play. I really hope this one gets a sequel where we follow the history of the books and get deadites in new and interesting places rather than just a cabin in the woods, though if the story is good it shouldn’t matter where it’s set.

I love this franchise, especially as a Michigander myself. It's absolute insanity in pure form. The second and third movie(Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness/Medieval Dead) played part as major inspiration for my work when delving into supernatural horror comedy. Ash Vs Evil Dead is the reason why I want to borrow a friend's Starz account, and I do appreciate the 2013 remake getting a ton of praise one decade later. Before getting into Evil Dead as a legalized adult, I grew up with Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy throughout childhood to mid teens. Nowadays, I adore horror for what it's been for years especially since indie movies have become the new normal with studios such as A24, Neon, and Skydance. Evil Dead was that much of a phenomenon after becoming controversial(especially in the UK where it was banned) when the first movie released, then recoiling with Evil Dead 2. I vaguely know the ReBoot episode with the zombie game and Resident Evil VII Biohazard; and it was so refreshing. Come to think of it, DMC5 should really have a mod where Nero gets a chainsaw-themed Devil Breaker from Nico as an homage to this brilliant series.

They didn't have the rights to the first movie and the second had different producers and distributors. Raimi was able to do a lot of things he couldn't in the first one, and honestly, I think it's one of the best blends of horror and comedy I've ever seen. Evil Dead 1 was this movie in my childhood that the cool kids knew about but nobody had seen it. It was banned in my country and the only way to obtain it was to find someone with a copy and make another copy with two vha players. It wasn't until the early days of file sharing that I saw it the first time as a teen and ir blew my mind. The file quality was horrible but the movie was so drastic and manacing for that time. Became one of my favourite movies and to this day I can recite some of the dialogs.

  • @VideoGameFools
    @VideoGameFools Год назад

Evil Dead 1 has a lot of hidden story elements to it regarding Ashes growth as a character (or regression depending on how you look at it). Upon first inspection it may seem the other characters are just set dressing, but that is very inaccurate. Scotty's personality is a lot more akin to how Ash is in 2 or Army of Darkness, a bit crazy, ready to kill what needs to be killed with little hesitation, though kind of an ass and a bit cowardly at points. It is very heavily implied Ash developed this personality archetype because of Scotty, as the two are best friends. The best part this can be seen is during Ashes initial "cowardly" state in the first film (Ash cowering while Scotty slices up Shelly) compared to Ashes sudden change at the end of 1 (getting the rifle, trying to fight back) and then all the way into 2.
Linda in the first film is a huge part of Ashes character as well (the later recasts not so much) as the spin-off games and other media make it clear the love he had for her and the fact he can't find someone else like her.
As a huge Evil Dead fan it obviously takes some looking into, but the first film's story and characters very much connect to how Ash is later in the series, and is a fantastic origin. Ash originally wasn't even meant to be the hero but due to circumstances was the last survivor, and it not only subverted expectations, but made one of the greatest horror icons of all time.
The story of these films may be confusing, but it all does connect in a truly awesome way. Bruce Campbell said the recaps aren't canon as well.

So the original Evil Dead movies were each produced by different studios which left Raimi unable to possess the rights to the the movies (a problem that would carry on to Ash vs. Evil Dead in which they couldn't make direct references to Army of Darkness with some exceptions). The incontinuity is fixed if you chop off the recap and ending of Evil Dead 2. I believe someone made a supercut of all three films so it would be seamless. Also, in spite of the franchise being held in cult praise, Army of Darkness flopped because people didn't know it was a sequel. This was due in part to the title change from Medieval Dead which was done because the executives at Universal wanted AoD to stand as a standalone movie, which is insane. There was an original version of the script where half of the movie would be a remake of Evil Dead, but Raimi got permsission to just make AoD a sequel, though the title change had to stay for some reason.
Also, fun tidbit, Evil Dead was _the_ movie with the cabin in the woods. It's the same as Dr. Sivana popularizing the mad scientist villain. The movie was so controversial because of its graphic imagery that it made the news. You ever see that clip of that woman bashing Tarantino for violence and language in their interview? It's like that.

Nothing to do with movies, but watching the footage from the game, made me remember my feelings on it, in that for a multiplayer focused game, it was actually good, and I could tell the team behind it loved the series. I can only imagine the game they could have given us not being forced to do multiplayer.

Evil Dead was the “trope maker” for many of the cabin in the woods and modern horror movies, which is why it seems cliche.
It was also Rami’s first professional movie, and you see his later work evident here with the camera and beating the crap out of Bruce Campbell.

"Bruce Campbell is the finest man to grace a silver screen." ~Psychostick
1:19 Technically, they started making it in 1979. Also, Stephen King described it as: "The most ferociously original horror film of the year."
1:57 Ash starts out as being kinda like the Shaggy of the bunch. Scott would be the Fred. Relatively speaking, of course. Scott's more of a jerkweed than Fred. And I mean the Mystery, Inc. gang as they were at the time T.E.D. was being made.
3:01 His gonzo absurdism and delightful dementedness influenced the likes of Peter Jackson, Guillermo del Toro, and Quentin Tarantino.
3:23 / 9:55 "The secret to Sam Raimi is he's always tryin' ta make a Three Stooges pic-chah."
5:02 / 7:42 Bruce describes it as a "requel," but that's still mostly "sequel." They couldn't get the rights to T.E.D., their own movie, to splice scenes into the beginning to function as a prologue, so they just reshot some scenes with only two returning characters. If you cut them together just right, you can splice the entire original trilogy into a mega-movie, and it's completely coherent and not redundant, proving that ED2 is NOT a remake of T.E.D. as so many like to claim (your assessment is more competent than most who think it's a remake since most who say that are only going by the first few minutes and not really paying attention to details). The story of ED2 technically starts with Ash getting hurled through the air. In the commentary, Sam explains how they did that effect. Also, the scene where Ash wakes up in the chair is meant to explain the inconsistencies. Why are three characters missing? They didn't make it into his dream. Why not? The subconscious is unpredictable. Also, the battle damage to his body and clothing remain mostly consistent. Ever wonder how his left leg and left pant leg got messed up in ED2? That happened in T.E.D. when possessed Linda attacked him. Same for his left arm and the left sleeve of his shirt. The cuts on his face also remain mostly consistent. One of them is a real L-shaped scar on the left side of his chiseled jaw.
5:37 Studio politics. That's also why Crimewave didn't turn out better. It's a fun movie if you ask me, but would have been better if the business whores had let the artists do what they wanted.
9:08 T.E.D. = horror. ED2 = horror-comedy. AoD = action-comedy. T.E.D. is more like 'The Kindred'. ED2 is more like 'House'. AoD is more like 'House 2: The Second Story'. Btw, T.E.D. Raimi played the possessed Henrietta in ED2 of demented do0m! Oh, and there's a movie called 'Evil Ed'. No, it has nothing to do with "Evil" Ed from the original Fright Night.
9:23 Have you seen the Trancers movies? Btw, that do0mstick isn't a Remington. It's an IGA/Stoeger Coach Gun. Most of what he says about it is made up. 12-gauge = yes. Double-barrel = yes. But the rest of it, not so much. It has a Brazilian hardwood stock, a regular blued finish, and double triggers. He says it has a "walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger." You don't really want a hair trigger. Also, double triggers are what allow double-shots to be fired out of double-barrel shotguns like in Do0m 2. You wouldn't want to do that one-handed, though. Some double-barrel shotguns (or double rifles) have a single selective trigger. Double triggers are mechanically simpler. Also, Ash's do0mstick is a hammerless boxlock with 20" barrels.
Fun fact: Bruce uses a different shotgun in each movie. In T.E.D., it's a generic single-shot 20-gauge, possibly a Harrington & Richardson, that Bruce bought at a local K-Mart. In ED2, it's a Stevens 311. In AoD, it's an IGA/Stoeger Coach Gun. He trims the barrels on the Stevens down from 28" to about 12-ish" to make a Mad Max gun (but with the stock left on it). That's movie magic, of course. You can't trim shotgun barrels with a chainsaw IRL. It would ruin the chainsaw's blade AND the shotgun's barrel(s). Plus, when you do trim shotgun barrels (which is legal to do within certain parameters, including but not limited to maintaining a certain barrel length, exceptions made for police armorers or whatnot), there'll always be burs left on the muzzles that'll need to be sanded off.
    13:04 Define "kids."
14:28 Why's he wearing three shirts?! I've NEVER seen ANYONE do that except in movies. Like, why do some people wear two long-sleeve shirts and then wear a coat or jacket on top of it?! Layer yer clothing fer cold seasons, sure, but it's important to do it right. More than two long-sleeve layers and it won't be comfortable because it'll bunch up. Then your movement wont' feel natural. That's why this detail is important.
17:40 How did they manage to forget that Bruce/Ash is left-handed?! Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza is the only Die Hard game to correctly depict John McClane as left-handed (because Bruce Willis is left-handed). Are all actors name "Bruce" left-handed? Is Bruce Dern left-handed? Link from the Zelda games used to be left-handed. We can assume he's ambidextrous.
    20:43 A single-shot 20-gauge in the first one.
    24:13 "Wreak" havoc, not "wreck."
26:59 Have you seen all of the Phantasm movies?
28:07 When I was a teenager in the '90s, my friends and I did LAN parties and Evil Dead marathons on the regular, especially when we were in college in the late '90s-go-nuts a go go. Do you...like...Oingo Boingo? The band, that is, not the bros from JoJo (who were named after the band). That reminds me, have you seen Weird Science?
28:17 It was even referenced on Darkwing Duck back in the early '90s-go-nuts a go go! Have you seen Killer Klowns from Outer Space? 🙃
28:45 ED2 is still muh fave for its gonzo absurdist bent. It's also Joe Bob Briggs's fave for basically the same reason...basically.

The evil dead remake is a good movie. It gets unfair criticism because the fanbase, including me, is hardcore. If it came out as a new standalone movie, it would be considered a great modern horror. I think the prologue served the purpose of minor book explanation and the girl is counted as a taken soul. She’s 1 of 5, because Mia’s soul was never actually taken. She was exorcised

This is just my personal feeling but i feel like people went into the evil dead remake expecting it to be campy like the older ones. And im not saying it was a great movie but i went into it expecting it to be like a modern horror movie. And tbh i love the remake. I wish it had a higher score
The whole 1 and 2 thing. I usually tell peoplr to just watch 2 then watch army of darkness then the tv show. Bruce Campbell says because of the whole rights issue that there is a proper way to watch 1 and 2 but unless you know "watch when the demon cam goes to ashes face and thats when the sequel starts" then id just go with 2.
It is one of those franchises i will always like. I still wear a evil dead shirt. I got dvd copies of the films. When i started Journaling i saw journals with the necronomicon face. Its a solid, fun, bloodfest, franchise.

Evil Dead 2 is less a sequel and more a reboot. Army of Darkness is a direct sequel to Evil Dead 2. Army of Darkness defies categorization due to cross contextualization- it's action, it's comedy, it's fantasy . . . mostly it's just a great dark comedy.
" Lsten up you primitive screw heads, this is my BOOM STICK!" is such a great line.

You got it pretty well. The trilogy, the 2013 movie, and the most recent movie are all interconnected. Problem has always been the legal rights to the movies. That's why the recaps tell a different story. Best to ignore them, the Evil Dead 2 recap picks up where the first movie ended with Ash being attacked by the evil force and you thought of a good solution to why Ash is hailed as a hero at the end of the second movie but is prisoner to at the beginning of AOD. Still a fun series, my favorite franchise but I have enjoyed Mia and Beth as the other leading ladies of the series. But of course there is only one Ash.
Also my personal opinion is the series peaked with Ash in the T.V. show. I would strongly recommend it.

I love how the director of the new film saw that one scene in Army of Darkness and found a way to connect each film into one cannon vs just being remakes/reimaginings or one offs.
