I know age is a factor. But Richard Dean Anderson was literally the best thing in a show of amazing cast. The golfing through the stargate episode was awesome. Lmao
Imagine you're a primitive culture with a mysterious ancient artifact on your world. Suddenly, after hundreds of years, the artifact comes alive, spins, makes sounds, hisses, a giant vortex of blue energy violently bursts forth, annihilating a few of the most curious onlookers, just to retreat back into an ominous shimmering liquid surface, bluer than the ocean and almost see-through from the other side. Hundreds of people have gathered around the artifact, some bowing to the gods they believe created the machine, others fleeing in terror. Then it happens. A tiny white ball flies through the ring. The blue energy disappears. That's it.
The attention to detail on Stargate was awesome. They didn't just materialise a ship out of nothing. First they got the alloy for the hull, then the engines, then the hyperdrive, then the shields. It was a linear growth. Regulars of the show were always rewarded.
I loved how it maybe possible because after the timescales of the seasons. The ship took 6, 7 years to get the prometheous? And barely working. As guard help without upgrading our weapons just to see if we could properly crew a real interstellar ship. Later the gate Bridge was genius blowing it up sucked
This was the coolest thing to me, the series literally takes you, step by step, from humans never having left the planet or seeing aliens to them being a powerful space-age civilization with many allies across multiple galaxies. Every advancement (almost) has it's own episode.
Yeah I hate that many other franchises just do that and nobody questions the stupidity of it and they even break records... How many seasons it took them to finally build a 304 right?.. Even then there were issues and inexperience. They got help from other races both technically and informationally. They've been in and out of how many Hataks now 😅
Stargate is just insanely cool. While other scifi franchises are often either just sci or fi, stargate is a unique combination of actually believable and almost real science, and equally believable yet purely fantastical fiction.
Lifelong sci-fi fan but due to life’s needs never found Stargate until I was 70. I think I have watched SG1 series 5 or 6 times now. I am on season 6 for another go round.
That was a great trip down memory lane for me. I was on the crew for SG1, Atlantis and Universe, and it was a great 15 year run working with an amazing group of people. Thanks for the great Popcast
I mean ... in this day and age, when you can't pitch a script unless you have a cinematic universe ready for it, MGM is sitting on a gold mine. Show me one other franchise that still has millions of enthusiastic fans across the globe almost after a decade of being dead? Damn gold mine. Nicely executed TV series with fresh take that respects values of the original shows deployed on a major streaming platform would make them instantly a TON of cash. ... And we'd be happy as fans. I hope so much something is happening.
@Jessey Lawson Anime is many times just ads / promotion for light novel or manga, many times very poor execution. I am sad for Dark matter I took it as "replacement" for StarGate, it was very good but also dead now.
i live in Colorado Springs and whenever I show people around, I always point to Cheyenne Mountain and say" ...and that's where we keep the Stargate." SGU season 1 was simply the most gripping scifi television ever produced.
A not-insignificant part of my childhood, and short time I had with my father, was spent watching Stargate. I have a soft spot for this show in my heart. Even then, this show had some real values behind the sci-fi.
Maybe it is better to let it go in grace than to squeeze everything out of it and make a bunch of crap. I believe when the time is ripe we will hear from it again.
It was certainly fun while it lasted; ALL of it! However, those (few) recap / flash-back episodes are the worst, when you're binge marathoning several seasons at once. xD LOL
@@blanckieification Disagree .... you could squeeze all want and never run out .... these shows died premature at what should have been their pinnacle. What a crying shame for us Scifi nuts.
To this day I periodically watch random episodes of SG1, the feeling of watching the early exploratory episodes(season 1-3/4) was amazing. You could never know what to expect from the next episode and so on.
I discovered SG-1 when it was on Hulu and binge watched all 10 seasons in a few days. Then binge watched Atlantis a few days after. They made up a huge part of my childhood and hope they can come out with a new movie or tv show soon!
Im glad you got to see all the series. Its in my opinion its one of the top shows out there. My wife and I have started rewatching the shows on Prime. Im kind of jealous of her because she doesnt remember them like I do. So each episode is all new to her. They only draw back from binge watching a show is that you dont get/have the same investment into the characters. I remembered I cried my butt off when Daniel died. And even rewatching it now I still cried. Hopefully Stargate will return
I binge-watched all the series after the film, and all the films, too. However it took me more like a month. One of the greatest sci-fi series ever. I'm a h-c Star Trek fan. Watched all STs, films and series. Didn't like Galactica, nor Farscape... or was it called Firefly? Anyway, didn't like both Fs.
@@TheJackGamer399 Oh I just thought Farscape and Firefly weren't at the same level as Stargate or Star Trek. I actually liked both Fs, just didn't find them as great, just alright. I'm one of those who likes the Science aspect more than Fictional aspect in SF series and films. Cheers!
Stargate was all about the cast. They just did one hell of an awesome work giving life to those characters. I was a pleasure to watch every single episode.
2BitUser you know it. One of the tertiary goals of my life is to one day shoot, and possibly some how own, a P90. Of course it’s not legally possible to own one, for goofy reasons (goofy because you are allowed to own, for example, a CZ scorpion, which has many similarities).
@@FriendlyNeighborhoodNitpicker Don't know where you live, but in Texas you can rent a P-90 at a gun range, and a US FFL can allow you to own one so...
I would so love there to be another Stargate series! The original is truly my favorite scifi series of them all. I also happen to have really loved Universe, and was very disappointed when it ended after only two seasons. Atlantis ended way too soon for me too. So I hope there will be more series and movies in the future.
Atlantis did end way too soon Susan, i loved SG-1, but with Atlantis, there was more character development. Dr Janet Fraiser in SG-1 was my favourite character, but she was criminally underused, Dr Carson Beckett had more development(mind you, they couldn't help killing him off, as they did Janet).
I loved all the the shows, including Universe. I realized right away that SGU was focused on drama more than the previous shows, but I didn't mind. I was sad that Atlantis AND SGU were cancelled. SG will always be a part of my childhood and a cherished memory.
I have forgotten Sci-Fi Stargate universe episode coming out on my channel tomorrow. I watched it when it first came out and I thought this is pretty decent. In the 10-year since then I've watched it twice the entire series and it's better each time. Once you peel away from the veneer of SG-1 and Atlantis and let it stand on its own as it's own entity but paying homage to what came before it. It is an absolutely phenomenal series. It was years ahead of its time. That show came out now it would be a smash hit
I just finished the 3 parts and I'm trying to find words to express my joy you have shown to me as story tellers who truly just plain love SG1 as much as I do. Honestly I still miss the stories and characters. Sanctuary is also a great show I miss.
I loved the Stargate series. While star ships always seemed far-fetched. Something to hope for in a possible future. Stargate always felt accessible. Possible. Now. Or just over the horizon. Imagine just packing a bag, walking through a door, and instantly being on another world. So many possibilities with a series like that. I loved every season. And I hope we get more.
I think if they did a new series, how bout they establish an earth colony on a young planet? It'd be a good way to bring back Jack & Sam as the leaders or advisors of the new colony, less active duty but with their wealth of knowledge help the new cast survive.
I wouldn't go that far... but it has a special place in my heart and interestingly it is one of the few Sci-Fi-shows that have an significant increasing tech level over the seasons.
@@Adriipht6969 First of all... Star Wars is Space Fantasy and not Sci-Fi. Secondly... Don't get defensive if our opinions are different. Its just that... fun entertainment. ;-)
I couldn't agree more. I loved how the stress of them never being able to return home, the interpersonal relationships, and the really, really ALIEN places they found due to their distance away from the Milky Way galaxy was great. I do think that if they tried it today, the show would've been a success.
Anderson’s character hitting putts into the Stargate was one of the best moments in sci-fi history. And, someone needs to make Wormhole Extreme as a way to reintroduce the show.
Christopher Judge is absolutely incredible in this series, with an incredibly honorable end in the movie, i'm so glad he was cast to be the voice actor for kratos in god of war!
Not only that but he was also a writer and co-producer during the show with significant creative input. He even tried his hand at directing a few episodes. For him and his co-nationals this was the role of their career.
And even funnier is when he DOES gets the English idiom exactly right, but his friends were prepared to hear him get it wrong. They give a quick facial reaction of surprise that he got it exactly right, but do not mention or respond with words. Then O'Neill says " yeah what he said".
This was awesome. Thank you for making this. "Don't be sad that it's over; be glad that it happened." SG:1 and Atlantis captured my imagination growing up and will always hold a place in my heart forever.
@@derianvandalsenThey didn't say "3 years, I promise" but "If all goes well, 3 years to the next galaxy". So we can guess it didn't all go as planned. And as a bonus, Eli can finally be thin and buff, like the real David Blue.
I agree. I liked all of the shows, but SGU was by far the most arresting of them. Fallible characters in conflict with themslves and others, fighting for life, hope, love... stories spanning a long arc, exploring power dynamics and ruthless humanity... It was simply great, and while I understood the fanbase feeling a bit estranged - it was like getting the new generation of the franchise. SiFi TV grown all up. A shame, anyway.

I am currently watching it all again for the 16th time. that's all seasons of each show and the movies. it is my absolute favorite show of all time. everything else is just a joke.
You guys are awesome orville stargate some of the best sci-fi out their. Stargate i can watch over and over again and never get tired of it plus their are so many unique characters that leave intimate stories available
As a long term Stargate fan, (as far back as to last century!) I think it's awful that these unlimited, unregulated corporate mega-mergers, like w/ these large studios, end up w/ less competition and ENORMOUS DEBT that unfortunately requires them to cancel GR8 series, movies, spin-offs, etc. It's cRAzY! Look how long ago, CBS & Viacom merged when it was thought you HAVE to have Xplosive growth or die. After several years & a GR8 Recession, they "divorced". Then, THIS year... they MERGED BACK together! Like I said, it's cRAzY! But, I'm glad there are "options" today. Look what happened when SyFy cancelled the Expanse! A HUGE fanbase "crowd-sourced" an outreach to Amazon & personally, to Jeff Bezos. And it worked! Amazon picked it up! Netflix, Amazon and Hulu are picking up more & more cancelled shows. And now Apple & Spectrum are joining into content for their platforms!
If you are expecting to show support by the thumbs up button, good luck with that. You will see millions of views and way less than 100k thumbs up and then a few thousand thumbs down. The voting system on here sucks and tbh pretty much all social media suffers in that regard. People cannot be bothered to show whether or not they liked or disliked anything they have viewed/read. That said I would love to see the franchise move forward, but I feel the powers that be behind the series waited a little to late. As the saying goes you have to strike while the anvil is hot, and it's ice cold these days not to mention they destroyed the sets for all the series.
I loved SG-1, but SGA was my favorite. Way too short and I was upset when they got rid of Ford and Beckett. SGU started to get really good right before it was cancelled....and the cliffhanger was horrible
SGA was my favorite too. And I agree about SGU. I was a little disappointed with it for being so different to the other series, but by the second season it became truely compelling. Such a same they cancelled it too.
O'neil and Jackson made SG1 for me, so much chemistry. SGU was odd at first, but once it got going I was a fanboy. The last season, when they time jumper and met their descendants? The creation of a new planet based on OUR culture??!!! That ending was both heartbreaking and wonderful.
I always hated what Sci-Fi channel has become, but after learning what it did for Stargate SG-1 from this video, it will always have a place in my heart for it. They saved Stargate and I will always have a place in my heart for them for doing that. I will always be grateful to them. Thanks Sci-Fi. If only you kept on going like so and made/saved more shows like that.
It really does. If it wasn't for the original movie, there would be no Stargate TV universe. Don't get me wrong, I've watched SG1 and Atlantis and like them.
@Darryl Ruiz But remember, they changed the Kurt Russell movie Jack for the TV show. Richard Dean Anderson's TV Jack isn't playing the movie version. Whose to say that the movie version couldn't have been good in the TV show? I agree that James Spader's movie Daniel was great.
sg1 was one of the best tv series in history of tv, the amount of actual scientific knowledge, myth, legend, and ascension information is amazing! dumbed down tv series have no place in the world of thinking people! sg1 was one of the rare action series out there!
I loved the whole franchise and every iteration of it. ❤ Sad it didn't go longer, but still glad to knew all the stories, characters, planets, ships and conflicts that came with it 😇
You haven't even mentioned the music! The theme song was there from the get-go and I still get thrills hearing it. The sound design and music department were stellar allowing the show to veer between comedic and dramatic in a way that even the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn't truly mastered.
I am still pissed that they killed Stargate Atlantis, they certainly could have squeezed at least 2 more seasons of the story arc at the end of season 5. The Stargate Atlantis series still feels incomplete.
I'm still pissed too. I think they could of easily done 10 seasons total. Imagine if they finally figured out how to make ZPMs? And on top of that, got some more spaceships together, perhaps allied with some aliens, and started taking the fight to the Wraith. There's all kinds of neat technology they could of found in Atlantis, especially from the lab of the Ancient known as Jonas. The whole arc of becoming more like the ancients and slowly mastering that technology would of been awesome. Imagine a season 10 where, after finding more Atlantis like cities, they have multiple city ships and a fleet of Ancient/Asgardian support ships flying around kicking the Wraiths asses? I always feel like that show had only scratched the surface. And while I like SG-1 a lot as well, it has always irritated me that the superior show(imo) in Atlantis ran for only 5 seasons and SG-1 received 10.
Even sg1 was ending without a big Happening or a win against the Ori. Yes, they Made 2 Films, defeated the Last Ori (orizi alias Adriana) And also the Last ba'al in another movie. But i would have prefered more Sessions instead of those movies. They could Not even reach the Sessions bcs they Had to Press everything in 120-130 minutes wich is alot Less then 20 episodes With 40minutes each :(
@@MikeMartin-ot9ic I'd like to point out, for your sake, that words like would've and could've are contractions of would have and could have, not would of and could of.
I'd like to see Richard Dean Anderson's daughter play Jack O'Neill's daughter, born to Laira (SG1 season 3 episode 17). I think it works in terms of time-line.
@Clark Vent As he would be an adult now, yes I'd like to see how he differs from the original since he seemed to want to do things differently the second time around.
@Clark Vent oh that “kid” dangerous as boyfriend I’m sure he may like older women first since HS girls isn’t mentally developed as he.. He’s gonna drive all the girls mad, and teachers up the wall, be kid “genius” child prodigy, captain football team, definitely smarter than old current O’Neill, focus more on books, reading, yeah, much like his nerdy Dr. friend and Samantha.. seeing the Big picture, knowing how important it is really & worth putting effort into. 🤦🏻♀️ 😂
Origins was an experiment in how to alienate established fan base by putting the Stargate seal on a low budget production on a streaming-only release. Well done, it worked.
The best episode was te groundhog day episode in sg1 when O'Neil and Teal'C relived the same day over and over. And gradually start giving less and less fucks 😂
As far as I'm concerned, SG1 and SGA are the best science fiction ever ... though I suspect Firefly might have given them a run for their money if it had a chance to run for a few years (though Firefly was a fairly different kind of show and thus might not appeal to every SG1 or SGA fan).
My problem with SG1 was nearly every episode was just them going to a planet that looked a lot like Earth's countryside, populated by farmers. There'd be some dickhead heathen scandal and the team would save the day. I got to Season 5 still with the feeling that "I was waiting for it to get started". I'm a Star Trek man, through and through though. Stargate is.... Ok.
@@childofthesun32 Understandable, I used to say the same thing but if you dig into the history of the ancients, earth was their home planet in the milkway and they populated planets in the milkway and even teraformed them to be like earth so humans can live on them. That's why a majority of the planets they visited have similar earth like features.
@@slothystyle My annoyance with that comment was someone once described Star Trek as being about them "beaming down to a planet that looks the the US countryside populated by farmers that all speak English". I was pretty annoyed at that. I was like "U WOT M8?? You're confusing Star Trek with Stargate, man. Also.. There's an actual reason why people all speak English in Star Trek... They're using Universal Translators. Tell me the reason why a bunch of aliens (who may or may not have originated from Earth in Ancient times)... All fucking happen to have developed the same English language lol? Stargate is almost trash to me. It's watchable. But it's just junk food.
I loved the sci-fi (always a fan) but mostly I loved this show because it balanced the nerdiness with action, adventure and humour. It will be back when they work out how.
Having been in the US military when Stargate SG-1 began in the 1990's I naturally loved it's very positive realistic portrayal of guys like myself rather than the usual Hollywood stereotypes of American soldiers as being mostly mindless idiots or right wing psychopaths, Don Davis was totally believable as Gen Hammond since he was in fact one of the few Hollywood actors since the Vietnam Draft ended who actually was a military veteran having served a couple years as a US Army officer over in Korea. I'm actually sort of glad the reboot never happened because I far preferred Dean Anderson's version of Jack O'Neill to the original one with no sense of humor and suicidal self-loathing. As Patton once noted you don't win wars by dying for your country. You win wars by making the other poor dumb SOB die for HIS country. My old man who was among the first Marines to march into Nagasaki after the Bomb was almost always smiling about something. You realistically can't do a job like that with no sense of humor or you'll go nuts,
Kurt Russel's Jack O'Neill was still suffering from his son's accidental death and with divorce coming up sure he was suicidal, but like Dean Anderson said himself the character arc of O'Neill adopting that native boy allowed him to have his surrogate son and help him defeat the tyrant thereby sort of making amends for failing to save his son life. I don't think a happy go lucky Jack O'neill would have worked in the movie.
I really liked SGU. From an acting standpoint, Robert Carlyle knocked it out of the park. Being from MN, I also appreciated Richard Dean Anderson injecting some classic Minnesota nice in his portrayal of "O'neer."
Universe is deeply underrated. It’s the vocal “worse. series. ever.” part of our fandom that criticises it. Flaws in SG-1 and Atlantis get brushed off, even though they weren’t perfect either. But guess what? They all have fantastic production values and stand each on their own, despite being imperfect. I don’t give a toss if Universe is the “ugly duckling”, I absolutely loved it, and reading through the comments here, seems I’m not the only one.
I think SGU was the perfect scifi show. I absolutely loved it and was devastated when they canceled it. With THAT massive cliffhanger where everyone is in cryo except Eli preparing to jump to the next galaxy they even could've renew the series in every possible direction. So much lost potential
Agree. I'm only just getting into this franchise. I decided to watch Stargate Atlantis because I love anything Atlantis, so I thought hell I'll watch it I have NOTHING else to watch lol. The whole series never interested me before, I'm not much of a space fan. Yeah the special effects at first were a joke. However the cast and the story line pulled me in. I love it and will now go back and watch the rest once I'm finished. I am so excited they are talking about a new one!! And I can't even believe that Jason Momoa didn't become super famous after his role instead it was GOT of all roles. He was so funny in Stargate!
"There once was an ugly duckling, ...with feathers all stubby and brown.... ...All through the wintertime he hid himself away ...till a flock of swans spied him there... ...youre a very fine swan indeed" Thats SG Universe....you will see the beauty within when your old and grey ! Love all SG but Universe youre my jam !!
Meh, I really hated SGU. I wouldn't force people to like SG1 or SGA but it's my opinion that SGU should've been it's own show targeting a different more grim audience. I was alienated by SGU and only gave it a chance because it was Stargate. There were some things I liked about it, and I've played with the idea that I might've liked the show more if it had not been Stargate and rather something stand-alone and original. A lot of people do like it though. Suppose that means it wasn't a total loss.
They should have focused more on the exploration and survival. They had a lot of potential that they wasted on soap-opera level character dramas. Loved it, other than that.
I always loved the evolution of things within the series - all the characters, machines, weapons, and other discoveries that were used again and again. good times were had and I really miss it :D
Stargate SG-1 is by far one of my favorite shows of all time. Both me and my father served in the military (him Army, me the Marines), and we both agree that the show is the absolute gold standard for how the military should be portrayed on screen. No other military themed show even comes close in my mind to portraying the mindset and culture of the US armed forces as well as SG-1.
Right, fucking loved every second of it. Breathtaking space scenery, amazing filmography, actualy very talented actors. I dont know what people smoked back then, that they hated on it and let it die. It was so good.... Im pissed the same after all these years, when i think about it. Fucking morons!
@@NefruSimons i'm pretty sure there got mad at season one of SGU (count me in on that) but it finally began to be good when season 2 started and i just think most people did not come back couse of that.
@Rob Mintz WE dude, you do you. SGU was more like one big story with secondary mini stories, direct oposit of all the others, where you have different story each week and the main story comes second. I always prefered series that have focused on the main plot more than the individual mini plots (like Expanse for example). SGU was that.
Never watched Atlantis or Universe, but absolutely LOVED SG-1! I would always eagerly look forward to each new episode and was rarely disappointed. The characters, storylines, and humour were great.
As a franchise I've probably re-watched SG more than even ST. You need to watch Atlantis. There's a couple of episodes I've watched over more times than I would admit-- Rodney and his sister.
Im rewatching all Stargate episodes at the moment. I loved Atlantis the most. My daughter is called Meredith. After Rodney Mckay. When she grows up and ask me, why she got that name. I will tell her that i called her after a male scientist ;D
DO IT! I have already started. Im on episode 13 of season one (SG-1). I will be watching them occasionally until ST Picard and Westworld conclude airing their current seasons so i can watch those fully. We are so lucky to live in this age where we have dozens of decent sci-fi shows that pump out new seasons every year that i dunno what to watch first. However i will always go back to my old favs from time to time. Oh snap, i just realised i haven't seen season 4 of The Expanse yet! OH BOY! I will be busy this week :D.
Watching stargate with my dad were probably the best memories i have about me and him pretty much all the science fiction, playing ps2 together. My dad would be amazed with all the games, movies, and shows out nowadays. Miss you dad.
Cesar Marin Well Cesar, while I happen to agree, SGU, SG1, & Atlantis, all seemed to be drawing closer to ‘finding/understanding’ them, I’d say, let’s ‘discover’ the ancients with our modern day comrades, first, then after we learn about them from the modern characters perspective, and only then, would I even feel prepared to learn about them, the ancients, at least to learn about them, their perspective, reasoning, and logic behind them creating the SG system... hope that made sense... so while I agree, yes, very great pitch for a way forward, for me personally, I don’t feel like SG1, Atlantis, and especially SGU are done understanding them yet; in other words not ready for that ‘reveal’ until the other plot lines are concluded in their understanding of the ancients...
That's a much better idea than what the Star Trek Picard writers had suggested, Stargate Tokra, which didn't seem nearly as interesting, but then again, they wrote Star Trek Picard, so...
@@brodetim9153 I agree. I want to know if they survived cryo and went on to more adventures. I'd like to see an offshoot about their 'descendants' that they met as well.
@@ruben34 Eli was the audience stand-in. There was no way they were going to actually kill him. He was either going to repair a pod and sleep with the rest of them, or there was going to be some Deus Ex Machina that saved him and the crew from having to be asleep for the rest of their loved-ones' lives. Knowing Stargate, it would've been the latter, but I know for a fact both options were being discussed in the writers' room.
Yep, same with me. When I discovered the video, I was: another gibberish video about Stargate. 52 minutes later, I am angry that we have no good news for the future of the franchise. Brilliant work, guys. Thank you for putting together this information.
Thanks for this one. Stargate SG-1 is my all time favorite sci-fi series, and Stargate is a great franchise, so I appreciate every new interest in it, hoping that it will be resurrected one day.
I can't underestimate the importance that Stargate has had in my life. It was such an integral part of my childhood. So much of what and who I am today was influenced by these shows.
It definitely had a lot of potential, but the first season really turned me off because it was just too slow paced. It played out more like a soap opera in space than a sci-fi action series like SG-1 and SGA were.
YES. It left me undone after discovering the signal. I'd LOVE to see how would they deal with the concept of "universe creators". I mean thats a plot worth watching, so many possibilities. Producers ended the show when it begun to really set off.
That and Rumplestiltskin being the obvious villain and should have been ejected out of an airlock by the military as the show didn't need a villain at all made the show painful to watch more often than not. The look and tone were fine as the premise of surviving on their own with limited resources paired perfectly with the darker, grittier atmosphere, and the sci fi elements were great. It was just the parts between the sci fi elements that were the problem.
Stargate universe just needed time to grow season 2 was so nuch better than season 1 . watched universe sg1 then atlantis wish they would make a new series so many stories yet to tell so many questions yet unanswered
There were some episodes in that second season that were as good as any in the whole franchise. Robert Carlyle is also a powerful actor who really made the show work when it did. There were some deep problems though, and a criticism of people acting as professional military personnel was one of them. Unevenly acting talent and in your face social justice commentary that had nothing to advance the story line were among them. The basic premise of SGU was still a good idea and I really wanted to explore the Destiny and the stargate seed ships (aka how stargates would be placed all over the universe). Much more could have also been told about the ancients through this ship.
@@GlanderBrondurg so true i wanted to see who invented tge drones that blocked destiny. The cast waa solid it they could have expanded the actors roles more too so many seemed one dimentional. Carlyle was amazing in it he was must watch tv. Wiah netflix could have picked it up and picked up actually 3 years after the show went air would have been nice.
I never really liked SGU, I must admit that I haven't seen it since it originally aired. But it always felt like it was dark and gritty, just for the sake of being dark and gritty. i don't mind dark or gritty shows, I always liked BSG, and the universe was a perfect setting for that kind of content. But the star gate universe, did not translate very well to a dark universe. Every episode, it felt like nails going down a chalkboard. It was awkward, and felt out of place.
Oh man was he great. I didn't know that he was in the US army, that explains why his performance was so convincing, I always thought that he could walk into any base without anyone thinking that he doesn't belong there.
The Air Force actually loved SG-1. I forget where I heard about it but they basically blessed the show using images and designs from Cheyenne because of this.
Stargate was my childhood from season 1 to the end of it all loved the series more than anything and still do thanks for reminding me what a great time i had and for the extra information like games and comics that i never knew about and how it started it's just incredible how detailed and well played by the actors it all was can't fathom any words for how great this was
One of my all time favourite shows. I remember being a teenager in the 90s, and the latest episode would be about to come on, then one of my friends would show up and say, hey let’s go to this party. And I’d say, sorry bro I can’t stargates about to come on. True story
Great video on the history of the franchise, I do love Stargate SG-1 it is my favourite of the 3 main series. Cheers and let's hope we see some great news about a continuation in some form for the franchise by the end of the year. :)
what a great video. thank you for this. i just became a fan this year. watched through everything from the first movie, till Universe, and i just watched the last episode last night. it feels like such a let down that there is no more after that. i can only imagine if i had seen it in real time like a lot of the fans. i would be dying for more by now! here's to hoping they can somehow pick up where they left off..
I remember watching SG1 then SGA and then my Personal favorite Battlestar Galactica (BSG). Then I had a fantasy. What if there was a Stargate made in BSG style. Gritty and unmerciful. And my dream came true in SGU. I had grown up with the Stargate franchise and finally it had grown up with me. I wish it could have gotten a five year run.
To me, the idea makes a sci-fi movie special. The stargate offering the only space travel that could make traveling such vast distance possible. The Egyptian tie-in so intriguing.
This franchise has accompanied me through my college days. I miss it so much. My friends couldn't really get into it though. Hopefully I can find someone who can chill and watch it with me. Also didn't know there is a Stargate Origins. I'll go watch it right away.
Wow I have been a stargate fan for years. I never knew that it was from a premium channel. I watched it all on the sci fi channel. I thought everything but the movie was sci fi channel and I had showtime and every other channel at the time. Just shows how little they promoted it.
Loved Stargate, watched it all several times. Watched Atlantis when it was airing but never rewatched any of them. Never even knew Stargate Universe existed lol
i was pissed they cancelled dark matter.... getting fed up with liking a good show only to get canned... while the mind numbing worthless drama shows go on and on and on...
I soooo agree with you. I was really really enjoying Dark Matter and they make the decision to keep Killjoys instead. And now what do they put on? pfffft.
@Jessey Lawson Fox had a habit of buying up good sci-fi shows and cancelling them after only 2 seasons. TSCC, Firefly, etc. Now that they've been eaten by Disney, I wouldn't worry about it.
I hate being a hater, but seriously dude, Dark Matter had to be one of the worst sci fi space shows ever made. Terrible acting, terrible writing, terrible sets, terrible SFX. It was way worse than the corny SG1, and that's saying something.
@@themagiceye6723 I agree the Acting was horrid, the script was meh, I had a hard time getting though it all. the Idea was cool, the execution was a failure.
I know age is a factor. But Richard Dean Anderson was literally the best thing in a show of amazing cast. The golfing through the stargate episode was awesome. Lmao
That was one of the Best episodes ever filmed for sci fi tvA
That's it.
@@gownerjones 🤣
That seems age-ist to me.
In his case weight become signifacant factor in later years too.
Dont forget a alien race built the first ship lol one of the best in my opinion
Very Interesting show. Love Science Fiction
Well said!
Lifelong sci-fi fan but due to life’s needs never found Stargate until I was 70. I think I have watched SG1 series 5 or 6 times now. I am on season 6 for another go round.
The evolution of Daniel was one of my favorites. It felt both a natural progression and simply O'Niell rubbing off on him.

I mean ... in this day and age, when you can't pitch a script unless you have a cinematic universe ready for it, MGM is sitting on a gold mine.
@Jessey Lawson not to mention there will most likely be some kind of gender driven politics in any future stargate movie/franchise
@Jessey Lawson Anime is many times just ads / promotion for light novel or manga, many times very poor execution.

Yeah SGU was trash
A not-insignificant part of my childhood, and short time I had with my father, was spent watching Stargate. I have a soft spot for this show in my heart. Even then, this show had some real values behind the sci-fi.
Actually loved them all. SG-1 and Universe were favorites. At 75 years old, I would hold on for another series.
Sgu was boring
Star Gate is one of the most creative stories ever told. Amazing series. Gets a little convoluted but still amazing.
Stargate: Alpha. General Carter in charge of a new Alpha site, bigger and and better than before.

No, I refuse to let down.
Some studios are able to unearth franchise from their drawers.
It couldn’t be that difficult to revive the SG universe
Maybe it is better to let it go in grace than to squeeze everything out of it and make a bunch of crap. I believe when the time is ripe we will hear from it again.
It was certainly fun while it lasted; ALL of it! However, those (few) recap / flash-back episodes are the worst, when you're binge marathoning several seasons at once. xD LOL
Not if the studio murdered it, Mech.

I always thought they brought him in as similar Tyr Anasazi (Andromeda) character
As Teal’c would say, “indeed”.
That loop episode was and still is one of my favorites amongst many for this show☺

I always enjoy time loop episodes, like x-files's "monday"
You can tell RDA had such a ball filming that episode :)
But...I dunno...what do you think? ;)
Sleep is overrated

Christopher Judge(Teal'c) was also on an episode of MacGyver.
SG-1 made me fall in love with the P-90!
2BitUser you know it. One of the tertiary goals of my life is to one day shoot, and possibly some how own, a P90. Of course it’s not legally possible to own one, for goofy reasons (goofy because you are allowed to own, for example, a CZ scorpion, which has many similarities).
Will Smith sees P90 in SG Scene :"aaah thats hot"
Whenever I play a game and I can chose a P-90 I call it the Stargate gun. My friends who didn't watch the show always looked at me confused.
@@FriendlyNeighborhoodNitpicker Don't know where you live, but in Texas you can rent a P-90 at a gun range, and a US FFL can allow you to own one so...
But in first seasons they had mp5 if I remember correctly. But yea, p90 is beauty ;-)
I hear this may be coming true!
That would be great if it's done well.
I wish that SGU had had its own title sequence. I think that that was part of the reason why it had poor viewership.
I just finished the 3 parts and I'm trying to find words to express my joy you have shown to me as story tellers who truly just plain love SG1 as much as I do. Honestly I still miss the stories and characters. Sanctuary is also a great show I miss.

While star ships always seemed far-fetched.
Something to hope for in a possible future.
Stargate always felt accessible.
Possible. Now. Or just over the horizon.

I think if they did a new series, how bout they establish an earth colony on a young planet? It'd be a good way to bring back Jack & Sam as the leaders or advisors of the new colony, less active duty but with their wealth of knowledge help the new cast survive.
Stargate SG-1 is EASILY the best sci fi show ever.
I wouldn't go that far... but it has a special place in my heart and interestingly it is one of the few Sci-Fi-shows that have an significant increasing tech level over the seasons.

Should never have ended Stargate Universe! Was an amazing show with excellent acting.
I couldn't agree more. I loved how the stress of them never being able to return home, the interpersonal relationships, and the really, really ALIEN places they found due to their distance away from the Milky Way galaxy was great. Well funny but wasteful after hearing how much power it required to activate.. could pay my electricity bill for 2 years.
Window of Opportunity is possibly my favorite episode
Christopher Judge is absolutely incredible in this series, with an incredibly honorable end in the movie, i'm so glad he was cast to be the voice actor for kratos in god of war!
He was in the dark knight rises too. Cut him out because he was bigger in height and musculature than the guy who played bane.
I love it when he does not get the English idioms exactly correct.
Untamed equines could not prevent me instead of Wild horses couldn't drag me away.
Not only that but he was also a writer and co-producer during the show with significant creative input. He even tried his hand at directing a few episodes. For him and his co-nationals this was the role of their career.
I love that quote. And the actor. Nails the line.

Major Carter was the original Black Widow. The moment she started liking someone they died.
Pete didn't die. Jack didn't die.
I loved SG-1, but SGA was my favorite. Way too short and I was upset when they got rid of Ford and Beckett. SGU started to get really good right before it was cancelled....and the cliffhanger was horrible
I loved SG-1 as well, but SGA is still my favorite tv show of all time.
Beckett was one of my favorites too. Too bad the show never got a proper ending like SG-1 had.
SGA was my favorite too. And I agree about SGU. I was a little disappointed with it for being so different to the other series, but by the second season it became truely compelling. Such a same they cancelled it too.
@@violetalar5387 it would have developed and SG fans that were upset would have eventually embraced it IMO.
O'neil and Jackson made SG1 for me, so much chemistry. SGU was odd at first, but once it got going I was a fanboy. The last season, when they time jumper and met their descendants? The creation of a new planet based on OUR culture??!!! That ending was both heartbreaking and wonderful.

They saved Stargate and I will always have a place in my heart for them for doing that. I will always be grateful to them. Thanks Sci-Fi. If only you kept on going like so and made/saved more shows like that.
The original movie deserves so much more recognition 😩
It really does. If it wasn't for the original movie, there would be no Stargate TV universe. Don't get me wrong, I've watched SG1 and Atlantis and like them.
Agreed. Creating "universes" around original movies diminishes dignity of source material.
David Arnold’s magnificent score.
So does Universe, fans just got pissy that they alterted the formula instead of making an SG1 clone
Stargate still has my heart. It's still my favorite scifi series of all time.
sg1 was one of the best tv series in history of tv, the amount of actual scientific knowledge, myth, legend, and ascension information is amazing! dumbed down tv series have no place in the world of thinking people! sg1 was one of the rare action series out there!
Yes, they Made 2 Films, defeated the Last Ori (orizi alias Adriana)
And also the Last ba'al in another movie. But i would have prefered more Sessions instead of those movies. They could Not even reach the Sessions bcs they Had to Press everything in 120-130 minutes wich is alot Less then 20 episodes With 40minutes each :(

As far as story goes this show blows my mind more than any other sci_fi
One of my all time favorite shows is SG Atlantic. My son hated SG1 and Atlantis but loved SG Universe. Everyone's got their tastes.
Your son is retarded 😂
Stargate and Sliders sums up my childhood. I miss them both.
I miss sliders. I wish it had gone on a few years more with a nice tidy ending.

Sci fi is so uneven sometimes, even the best series in the genre. Sliders had great moments and just mediocre air time moments.
Omg Sliders!
The best episode was te groundhog day episode in sg1 when O'Neil and Teal'C relived the same day over and over. And gradually start giving less and less fucks 😂
Yep always bothered in his back swing
As far as I'm concerned, SG1 and SGA are the best science fiction ever ... though I suspect Firefly might have given them a run for their money if it had a chance to run for a few years (though Firefly was a fairly different kind of show and thus might not appeal to every SG1 or SGA fan).
yes and we also love Firefly. That was such a huge mistake to cancel after only one season
A new Stargate series would do very well today too as space SciFi shows are very popular.

Stargate is almost trash to me. It's watchable. But it's just junk food.
I'm a massive fan of battlestar and I love the fact that so many cast members have small roles in this show.
I would love a revival of SG Universe. I was sad to see this continuation was never finished. It was a blast.
I loved the sci-fi (always a fan) but mostly I loved this show because it balanced the nerdiness with action, adventure and humour.
It will be back when they work out how.
WHY, because syfy decided showing ghosthunters and wrestling was more important, so I turned them off!
You realistically can't do a job like that with no sense of humor or you'll go nuts,
Don died on 29 juni 2008
Doesnt change the fact that you are all war criminals
Kurt Russel's Jack O'Neill was still suffering from his son's accidental death and with divorce coming up sure he was suicidal, but like Dean Anderson said himself the character arc of O'Neill adopting that native boy allowed him to have his surrogate son and help him defeat the tyrant thereby sort of making amends for failing to save his son life. I don't think a happy go lucky Jack O'neill would have worked in the movie.
@@someguy7629I like to think Don Davis character is the same military guy in both Twin Peaks and Stargate and that it's the same universe :P
@@Zyzyx442 Probably right on all that.

I really liked SGU. From an acting standpoint, Robert Carlyle knocked it out of the park. Being from MN, I also appreciated Richard Dean Anderson injecting some classic Minnesota nice in his portrayal of "O'neer."
I remember the days of binge watching this whole franchise.
"There once was an ugly duckling,
...with feathers all stubby and brown....
...All through the wintertime he hid himself away
...till a flock of swans spied him there...
...youre a very fine swan indeed"
Thats SG Universe....you will see the beauty within when your old and grey !
Excellent history of Stargate. Thanks for the combined video!
You are welcome! We hadn't considered it and thought well this sure would make it a lot easier LOL :) Thanks for supporting our channel gary!
@@ThePopcast You guys are the best. Period.
theirs so little stargate content on youtube glad i found this
Stargate SG-1 is by far one of my favorite shows of all time. Both me and my father served in the military (him Army, me the Marines), and we both agree that the show is the absolute gold standard for how the military should be portrayed on screen. No other military themed show even comes close in my mind to portraying the mindset and culture of the US armed forces as well as SG-1.
Oh, the memories! I miss Stargate so much...
Hated how Universe ended, was just getting bloody good 😭
Right, fucking loved every second of it.
@@michael-gb3rn I dont know man, i liked season 1 a lot.
@@NefruSimons but the problem with season 1 was that it was way off trail from sg1 and sga. sure some people liked it and many other did not,
@Rob Mintz WE dude, you do you. SGU was more like one big story with secondary mini stories, direct oposit of all the others, where you have different story each week and the main story comes second. I always prefered series that have focused on the main plot more than the individual mini plots (like Expanse for example). SGU was that.
I just watched 'Origins', never so bored with a movie that I paid to Watch !! SO I bought the first 7 seasons of SG1 to Watch that !
I love you right now. You are my hero. 😂
@@jamieflowers534 youre welcome xD
this makes me feel like watching every season all over again god damnit lol
Three to hours at a crack.
I already Started using Hulu with no Ads.
Way ahead of you!
Jordy you can. They are on the Comet network six nights a week.
I love SGU style and story no matter what, this steampunk feel is just perfect.
Watching stargate with my dad were probably the best memories i have about me and him pretty much all the science fiction, playing ps2 together. My dad would be amazed with all the games, movies, and shows out nowadays. Miss you dad.
This was beautifully done... I watched from beginning to end without getting bored. Good job Popcast
New amazing series would be Stargate: The Ancients
I want an anwser to the ending of SGU😂
That's a much better idea than what the Star Trek Picard writers had suggested, Stargate Tokra, which didn't seem nearly as interesting, but then again, they wrote Star Trek Picard, so...
I am not even familiar with the series just the movie but already it sounds good
@@brodetim9153 I agree. I want to know if they survived cryo and went on to more adventures. I'd like to see an offshoot about their 'descendants' that they met as well.
i'd give my soul to bring back Stargate with the OG cast in a new setting
I love Stargate and so do my 5 sons. I'm 70 and we never get tired of watching DVDs of the franchise. Also I love the music theme of SG Atlantis.
Who else would love to see Stargate Univers get à proper finish ? I for one was frustrated how it ended
I'm still waiting to see if Eli managed to repair the hibernation pod or if he will be a skeleton somewhere in the ship
Knowing Stargate, it would've been the latter, but I know for a fact both options were being discussed in the writers' room.
read the title, played the first seconds...
... you have my attention! :D
Edit: you got it for the whole hour :D
I liked SGU, had a lot of potential, sadly, they did not exploit that.
I liked it too, but half of the characters were very unlikable for me. Still I would love to see more.
Last 2 episodes were outstanding
I loved SGU, and am hoping they pick it up again one day.
Stargate also had a fantastic and underrated score by David Arnold. He knocked it out of the universe!
SGU was simply trash, it was melo teen drama island that stains the name Stargate. F that series and the stones they slip into
exactly. SGU freeking sucked.
Don Davis had been a Captain in the US Army so he had the bearing to be an officer in the military for this show.
@@devinwalton408 They loved it so much, that Richard Dean Anderson was also made an honorary Air Force brigadier general. That is so very Cool!
I would really like to see a follow up on SG universe, this ended leaving too many questions open
Stargate was my childhood from season 1 to the end of it all loved the series more than anything and still do thanks for reminding me what a great time i had and for the extra information like games and comics that i never knew about and how it started
it's just incredible how detailed and well played by the actors it all was can't fathom any words for how great this was
One of my all time favourite shows. I remember being a teenager in the 90s, and the latest episode would be about to come on, then one of my friends would show up and say, hey let’s go to this party. And I’d say, sorry bro I can’t stargates about to come on. True story
same here in the uk it was on the channel sky one. Used to watch it and TNG Voyager and Enterprise as well. Good times
You are a loyal one.
Great video on the history of the franchise,
I do love Stargate SG-1 it is my favourite of the 3 main series.
MORE STARGATE!!!! PLEASE!!! Been cold turkey for far too long!!! I need my fix!!! GIMME STARGATE!!!
Robert A. Heinlein beat them all with the book “tunnel in the sky” published in 1955.
It’s technically for teens but it’s a fun read.
Funny, older me says that Heinlen was a complete whack job but the same time, he could tell a story so immersive you could believe it and wanted to.
Also a roleplaying game called Fringeworthy in 1982, but yeah RAH is first.
Love Stargate forever !
Wow I have been a stargate fan for years. I never knew that it was from a premium channel. I watched it all on the sci fi channel. I thought everything but the movie was sci fi channel and I had showtime and every other channel at the time. Just shows how little they promoted it.
Always great revisiting this classic! 😊
Gotta make space for all those cop drama mystery shows /s I liked Dark Matter
I hate being a hater, but seriously dude, Dark Matter had to be one of the worst sci fi space shows ever made. Terrible acting, terrible writing, terrible sets, terrible SFX. It was way worse than the corny SG1, and that's saying something.
@@themagiceye6723 I agree the Acting was horrid, the script was meh, I had a hard time getting though it all. the Idea was cool, the execution was a failure.
