      Better question is in regards to the R rated question the interviewer was asking.
      So much that falls under the adults only r rating, blood, gore, Big Melons.
      Look Timmy, I have this educational video. It's so good it's is banned in every school.... That Guy explaining the birds and bees. Probably
      Like, how many r rated things you ever taken a kid to watch? What you mean "it could be a true story"? Crazy uncle/dad vibes.
      Must have been hitting the secret sauce a bit much.

    Aliens, AND 'JAWS' were both Rated PG. Yes, those of us who saw these movies were traumatized, and now that we're adults, have *ZERO REGRETS!* What movie produced these days, can equal that experience, and elicit those kinds of emotions? (Very few).
    After seeing 'Cutesy' Sci-Fi movies ('E.T./The Last Starfighter/etc.), this one shattered horror in space.

    My boyhood friend and I searched a local newspaper to find out what movies were playing locally. We found that a film named ALIEN was now playing in a local big-screen theater. Neither he nor I knew anything concerning this movie, as pre-release advertisements had been kept to a bare minimum, if any, in our area. To this day, I still remember him jumping up during the chest-buster scene and yelling, "Holy fuck. Mother of God!" He also made a remark, which I will not repeat here when Ripley stripped down to her panties and T-shirt.

    I was terrified of the films when I was young (born in 1978) but it is now one of my absolute favorite franchises. I love the first four movies and have rewatched them all many times. Sadly I don't remember Prometheus or many of the films after it, but recently watched Alien: Romulus to which I am still on the fence about. I am excited for the VR alien game and for the most part have enjoyed most of the games that has come about. I have decided to join so I can see your take on the whole franchise and all the behind the scenes stuff you don't see much of any more.

    Thanks for a great video and one that shows respect to the original. When I first saw it on its release I was absolutely taken aback by the realism of the Nostromo. The attention to detail made it a real environment. The Xenomorph may have lost some attention through familiarity but not the Nostromo, and with Alien Romulus it has restored some of the joy of retro-hardware. I hope this is continued.

  • @Mopantsu

    I can reveal something many Alien fans probably missed. The myth of the Alien chestburster scene is actually a little more complex. This is not insider information. This is purely from what I have seen from movie stills of that scene that were in the book of Alien that took stills from the movie to tell the story.
    In that book one of the movie stills is an uncropped image of John Hurt on the table at the point the blood splatter explosion occurs on his chest. Because the still is uncropped it shows that Hurt's t-shirt was NOT tucked into his pants/trousers and you can clearly see his stomach. Yet in the following still of the actual chestburster his shirt is clearly tucked into his pants/trousers!
    This dispells the myth that all of the actors were not entirely aware of what was going on UNLESS the first part when his shirt is not tucked in was filmed prior to the actors witnessing the chestburster and subsequent spraying of blood (in particular onto Cartwright).
    So whilst it may be true they were not aware of the chestburster scene. They may have in fact been aware that something was going on if they were there for the part where Hurt's chest initially blood spatters.
    I wish someone would add this important information to the lore since the mythos of them being completely unaware needs clarifying with this additional knowledge.

  • @sillyhead7441
    @sillyhead7441 22 дня назад +1

    Well done!

  • @jkorshak
    @jkorshak 9 дней назад

    The actors were quite aware the chest burster scene they were shooting would involve an alien bursting out of John Hirt's chest. It was in the script.
    They knew it's a fake chest for the chest burster to appear from. They knew most of John Hurt was beneath the table. They knew there were puppeteers under the table. They even knew what the puppet looked like because it was shown to them during its construction.
    The only thing they did not know was the amount of blood that would be shot from the fake chest and the loud and violent pop/hiss of compressed air driving the fake blood.
    Cartwright didn't faint - she literally tripped over her feet after taking the stream of fake blood into her face. She got up and continued the scene.
    "They didn't have the budget to do CGI" Technically true since they did not have the budget to advance CGI technology by almost a decade as CGI at the time essentially did not exist except in its most simple graphical forms and years away from photorealistic CGI animation.

    The new Alien Romulus movie made me faint during the first chest bursting scene where the ship is spinning out of control. Seen a ton of scary movies and that's never happened before. Think it was because I was sleep deprived, dehydrated and ate too many edibles. Was a very intense scene. I fell and smashed my face so I never finished it, almost scared to watch it again. 34:33 - There was no CGI to speak of as we know it at this time. The most notable examples would “The Hand” animation from Westworld From 73’. There’s also the intro credits from Vertigo 58’.
    If you are talking about “Painting in” the laser effect via hand animation… yes, that would be expensive AND time consuming.

    The scene was, a boat gently floating on a glass like lake surface, a young person hanging her hand out of the boat into the lake.
    There are Police cars in the background, but everything is silent. Lights are flashing.
    Jason Vorhees leaps from the lake and grabs the young lady............

      We all make mistakes, trust me we are not error free. But in this case, we do know our history. Definitely not the CGI we know today, but the first feature film to use a rudimentary CGI was Vertigo in 1954, which used abstract computer graphics by John Whitney in the opening credits of the film. The first feature film to make use of CGI with live action in the storyline of the film was the 1973 film Westworld. Scott did have access to elements of CGI during the making of Alien. In fact he created all of the images on the bridge's computer terminals on the Nostromo with Computers. Thank you for watching the video and keep questioning things!

    Is there an Alien Series?!

  • @sirskeptic
    @sirskeptic 21 день назад

    I love that reviewers keep saying "a new type of heroine". EVERY female lead is the new type of hero. From the original Perils of Pauline (1933) and before, female leads had been brave, hard ridin', hard shootin', train jumpers who fought Indians, Savages and bad men.
    SOME women in movies have always needed rescuing and some women were tough guys. If you pay attention this is nothing new.

    1:38 Ripley was NOT kicking ass on the first movie ( or the first half of the second)
    She was afraid as any human being would be .
    She even had to learn from a guy how to use a weapon .
    But ,after that ,ALL the shows has a female protagonist that is angry and know it all .

      @ThePopcast  23 дня назад +2

      Well, I mean she beat the Alien. Outsmarted it and was brave when a lot of people would have simply allowed themselves to be killed in fear. She definitely kicks ass more as the series continues, but she definitely kicked some ass in the first movie, be it more toward the end.

      I said something similar about a week ago on another content creator's channel. People keep going back to Ripley and Sarah Connor as great characters and rightly so. They had to earn everything they became. Both women survived their first movies. Ripley developed during the movie where as Sarah Connor did it between movies.

    Ill watch this later 👍🏻. When I saw Alien (and The Thing actually) for some reason I had the cinema to myself 😮. I went to see Alien on a Sunday evening. Can’t remember how long it had been showing for so maybe there was audience burnout. Needless to say, I wasn’t complaining.
    The Thing. I think the reason why the theatre was empty then was because I went to the first showing in town which was a late afternoon show. Most people would have been at work. I was working but had finished early. Walked past the cinema, saw the poster of this film which I knew nothing about (Ah, the days of minimal exposure), thought “What the Hell !” and walked in.
    Just me there with my popcorn.
    Anyway, I was gripped almost immediately. And then the dog scene happened……😮😱🐶🍌💀
    Of all the films I have seen over the years, thats the one Im glad I saw completely blind.
    Sorry for waffle 😊

      Oh, that's a cool story just happening across The Thing. Just one of the truly great 80's scifi horror movies. Anytime we get a theater by ourselves, it's such a treat. You feel like a King in your own giant living room except you have to keep your pants on ;) Great comment!

    I have a pretty unique take on Alien. I saw it in 1979 when I dragged my Mom to see it. I remember the teaser trailer with just the egg cracking and that scared the crap outta a 12 year old. Needless to say the movie traumatized both of us. So many years later and I've watched the movie hundreds of times including seeing it whenever it's re-released in the theaters I have completely reversed what I love about Alien. As a kid the build-up was becoming a little tedious until the derelict ship and of course the chest buster but now the opening half hour or so is what I enjoy the most. I still enjoy the alien and all the kills and commotion but the crew dynamics and interplay is so damn interesting that I really wished there was a whole movie just about them before the alien encounter. Many times I find myself stopping the film right after the chestburster scene. Alien still has the greatest sound design of any movie imo. You mention the bad previews and Ridley found that the theater I think in Houston had a really bad sound mix. When it was fixed to his specifications the resulting audience scores went through the roof. Can't wait for your further delve into the Alien franchise. I think it's gone off the rails with Romulus which imo was just a cut and paste greatest hits repackage of the Alien films. I won't be seeing any further films following that story. I would be interested in David. I'll check out the series but I'm not expecting much. Here's hoping it's not another franchise destruction by the Mouse. What Disney did to Star Wars should be considered a high crime. Finally, don't know if it was a mistake or on purpose but when you mention Helen Mirren several pics are shown of her. The 2nd pic is actually a young Veronica Cartwright from The Birds I think. I've always found things to like about the Alien movies until Romulus. Alien and Aliens are the only great movies. Alien 3 has grown much better over time and if the studios would have left Fincher alone it could have been really interesting. Resurrection was a foreign art film and Prometheus while entertaining was Sir Ridley going off on a tangent. Covenant was an attempt to get back to the basics of what Alien was. It kinda worked. The entire crew was expendable sans Fessbender acting performances. Again, I really don't consider Romulus a film and I'll take the 1st AVP over it. I'm gonna watch your Dune vid now. If it's half as good as this it'll be very enjoyable.

    Good documentary on a franchise I Love. Alien and Aliens are my Die Hard. It's a Christmas movie to me 😂 and I watch both every now and then. Honestly, both are a Masterpiece. The sequels to a varying degree, eg the first 30minutes of Alien Resurrection is 10/10. The following 30min is thee greatest POS of the whole franchise 😅. Awful. But I love the series. Horror, Comedy, Sacrifice, Great special effects and Most of all Ellen Ripley. "Get away from her you Bitch!" Greatest movie line Ever.

      If they use miniatures and overlay the image using software, I believe taht is cgi.
      If they used puppets and later composite the image.in editing that is cgi

    I still remember fondly my first meeting with Alien. As a boy of 10 or 12 years, I was home alone and cuddled up in front of the TV. Kept zapping around until I stopped at this interesting SciFi stuff. Moments later, chestburster.
    I don't recall my reaction, but I have never been easily afraid of such shots. Back then I didn't give many other thoughts about what I have just watched. I thought it was cool and nothing more. Later as an adult, I properly got in contact with Alien, and got hooked. Alien 1 and 2 are priceless masterpieces, but I also very much like 3, 4 is alright and from there on, it only went downhill. It's so sad how the same fate hits every franchise. Alien, Star Wars, Terminator, all receiving more and more stupid and creatively bankrupt rehashes. Unless a miracle happens, I don't think we will ever receive an Alien movie again, that could rival the feel and quality of the first one. Hollywood has it's good times behind itself.

    Love it. Agree with most of it too, apart for a prediction that now, since Disney owns the IP sky is the limit. Actually. I'm afraid Disnay having the ownwrship is the worst news for any IP, ever. It just means that Alien franchise will be exploited. milked dry and killed off the way they have done away with Strar Wars.

      The Beast Within is a 2 plus hour very well made documentary. You are going to be hard pressed to find out more, but there is a lot more. A lot about Dark Star, Star Wars, 20th Century fox, Ridley Scott and the Cast is totally new. You can't find all of this info in one place... anywhere else.

    Star Wars was the start of the science fiction movies we know in love now. Garry Marshall said Star Wars was the reason. Why he made mork & Mindy! After watching his son watching Star Wars on tv. Ridley Scott wanted to be another George Lucas. Dan O Bannan was looking for a new story to tell. I think shoe set was lady crazy. Let the facehugger rape a human. I do enjoy the movie Alien. It is the best.
