    I really appreciated how he both got a final “win” as Saul Goodman by getting a 190 year long sentence down to 7 years and then ultimately “winning” as Jimmy McGill by owning up to what he’s done and finally taking responsibility and therefore proving that there’s still some good in him and having Kim see that.

    Bill Oakley thought he could jump into Saul's niche when he left, but found that there is only one Saul. He sat there, mostly speechless, and watched Saul be a master of the craft. No matter how many bus stop benches Bill puts his face on, he could never replace Saul. If this doesn't go down as one of the best shows ever, like when people mention The Sopranos or The Wire, it will be an absolute travesty. It couldn't possibly have ended more perfectly.

    Seen people say that they think Kim will become his lawyer and get him out. No chance. Not only is it not practical from an in-universe standpoint (mountains of evidence and a sworn confusion in public court means he probably will have to serve at least 40 years before he can even try to appeal - if he can even appeal at all).
    But more importantly, it kind of flies in the face of the theme. This was about Jimmy facing the music. For the first time in his life he isn't running. He isn't trying to talk his way out of something. He is owning his actions and accepting the consequences as an adult. That look he gave Kim through the fence, to me, was very much a melancholic "remember when" type look. He'll always love her, but tge path he's on means it just can't be. And he's finally ready to accept that

    • @puckutubesux7356
      @puckutubesux7356 2 года назад

      What you just described makes absolutely no sense. Jimmy had absolutely no motivation to do that. None. He was perfectly happy to plea bargain his way down to a 7 year sentence in a country club prison, and he gets told Kim could be sued and he changes his mind for no discernible reason. It's bad writing. It was so unrealistic within the show's universe that they actually have a prime opportunity to do a prison break movie where Saul scams his way out of prison. Maybe he gets caught, only for the FBI to be so impressed with him that they hire him to red team for them. There is absolutely nothing about what I just wrote that is less realistic than what they actually did in the finale. It was the work of an amateur. They wrote a character doing something for no reason.

    As a fan of the show there’s a part of me that wanted Saul to get away with it, even if it meant destroying Kim. Confessing to all the crimes he spent ages beating down to 7 years had me scratching my head. I was baffled really.
    But once I reflected on the finale I realised it was a befitting but sad ending. Once I remembered the evil things he’d done that affected people on a more personal level, I realised that some atonement was needed. He caused Chuck’s suicide, Mark Hamlin’s involvement with him got him killed. Not to mention the way they tortured him before he died. On top of that he abused the law that he was meant to uphold which allowed a lot of criminals to escape justice. I love the way he smoked the cigarette with her right at the end like when they first met. But man it’s sad to think that Jimmy aka Saul doesn’t go out with a bang or some heroic type of ending. Just a sad old man rotting in jail for the rest of his life.

    I wanted to see Saul GET OUT of the sentence. It's great that he prioritized his love for Kim over everything; but at the end of the day HE WAS RIGHT--i.e. they were "too smart to throw away their lives for nothing." He should've told the whole truth to satisfy her, but then the Writers should've had Kim help him get out of his sentence, Slick Jimmy style. They were happiest TOGETHER, and that should've been the main moral.

    I don't think he's in a better place now. Maybe this is what he thinks at the moment, but once he realizes that this is his final destination he will feel some sort of regret. He will literally die in prison. Is that what Chuck had in mind for his brother? Is that what Kim suggested and wished for him? To rot in prison? I'm sorry, but the romantic taste of this catharsis will lose it's sweetness very soon. Yeah, I get that he feels some kind of relief and maturity to take responsibility for his actions, but in the same way how does that really help anyone? It's not helping him, it's not helping society and it surely doesn't help the people that died. We will not see (or imagine) how he can do better things in normal life in the future. Also, I don't really get why he seems to get blamed for everything. He didn't kill anyone and I don't think he is actually responsible for any of the deaths that took place. He is guilty for money laundry and for helping a drug King Pin with his legal advice as a lawyer for the most part. Let's not forget that he actually helped a lot of people as a lawyer and not only criminals, think of the elderly in the beginning of the show. I think thoughtout the show, you can see that he has actually a good heart but follows his own moral compass and his own set of rules. That doesn't mean he's a good guy, he's a complex character with many flaws but he's certainly not a ruthless villain like Walter White. I'm satisfied with Walts ending, I'm satisfied with Jesse's ending, I can't really say that for Saul. I wouldn't have mind If he got some years or even if he gets scot-free with his genius, but still manage to make a personal change. But him literally begging for more time, was too much for me. I didn't like that and I didn't thought it was really true to the character nor necessary. I would have loved to see one last, big hustle maybe even with the hope of having some kind of future with Kim of any sort. Also, as much as I like the show overall, I didn't really liked the stuff with him as Gene. It made him look go backwards with his character development. I don't know why he couldn't resist to go back to his con-man days if he's on the run and has to be cautious. He really acts dumb and that's what gets him caught in the end. It's almost like he never made any personal progress since the beginning of the show. I still love the show and the end is not necessarily ruining it for me, but I can't say that I liked the ending.

    Lot of little things that added humor as well. You get the impression Bill Oakley in private practice is no Saul Goodman. He’s not driving a Mercedes, but a beat up Pontiac I believe. Not exactly what you would expect out of a successful lawyer. Only one issue that left me confused and felt wasn’t handled as well as the rest of this fabulous episode. Kim handed in a sworn affidavit. Jimmy didn’t even know she did that and she is absolved by him saying he lied about her participation. That’s all well and good, but she was the one that would’ve actually lied in a sworn affidavit, so I didn’t understand that part otherwise it ended someone as I expected. More psychological character analysis and reflection than any kind of shoot them up total destruction of the post breaking bad world. I give it a 10 out of 10. The writers are simply genius.

    They based the ending on a cute phrase Saul Gone. I can tell by your review that you have never been in jail. I tasted the potential in just three days in lockup. Charges were eventually dismissed but I knew I never wanted to be behind bars again. Almost all white collar criminals never go back inside once they are released. Saul was an attorney that was all to familiar with the consequences. He was smarter than most and would not have put himself in danger of a life sentence. Stupid ending. The series, like the Game of Thrones is dead to me. Breaking Bad ended much better, the kid didn't die.

Be a useful member of a community. But no, he will be rotting in prison till death. Man. I cried a lot in the ending. Cried more than when I watched Hatiko. Don't get me wrong, I loved the season, but the finale - not as much. What kind of made me cringe is that Saul essentially traded seeing Kim briefly and it costed him 80 more years of his life. He expertly navigated a 7.5 year sentence - he could have just kept his mouth shut and been good. If he wanted to see Kim, he could have written her, called or and tried to see her whilst in prison. if she declined, then he could have waited until he got out (most likely in much less time with good behavior.) It's hard to stomach that someone as selfish as Jimmy would have made that large of a sacrifice - his life. Furthermore, there was no reason for the totally unnecessary sacrifice. It would have been different if it would have ensured Kim would not be sued in civil court or avoided criminal charges or even saved her life. Also, I wasn't too crazy about the foot stomping chant on the prison bus - that felt way too contrived and cheesy. I thought that "Waterworks" was by far the more superior episode.

  • @neuropete1
    @neuropete1 2 года назад

    It was an ok ending, but not great. It was a bit forced at the end. Saul's sudden turnaround just doesn't feel believable. Here is a guy that was willing to steal from a guy with cancer, then weasels his sentence to just 7 years... and just like that the guy gives it all up just so he can prove to Kimmy, who he had almost zero contact now for years, that he has changed? Meh. Worth the 80 years? I was happy that he did not die and that he was going to survive the joint as a likable inmate, and was nice to see some closure with him and Kimmy... but again, the road there in the last episode was not well written. Sorry.

In BB there was always someone trying to kill Walter or the police catching him or the family finding out about him.....But in BCS the tension only comes from him getting caught.They can't have that as the sole reason to build for unnecessary tension for 4 eps.They just wanted to tell the sad reality that Gene is in and how he becomes James McGill again.Dont compare with BB.They are of different styles and different breed of protagonists.
