So who thinks this deserves a response from Pixar?

When I started working for Disney in 2000, there was a rumor that Andy's dad had died from Polio. Interesting to finally hear the whole story 17 years later.

Oh, and to answer your questions, It was mostly awful and I have no idea if Boo is the witch from Brave. I did however get to see concept art from Cars back in 2001. I was also treated to a private stage production of Rocky Horror put on by cast members at Disney World. Employment there had it's ups and downs.

In Toy Story 3, Andy choose Woody as his old toy to go college with him instead of Buzz, because Woody was the most precious, meaningful gift toy from Andy's father before he died and suffered from polio. So, Andy decided choose Woody to go to college, to keep his dad's memories alive and never fade.

i want a fourth movie that has the toys learning this. having woody and the other for the first time questioning their loyalties and thinking back to what the previous villains had said. then going on a long quest to find their creators to prove their existence has meaning only to learn that their creators and the factory are gone and that everything they knew a lie. then someone unexpected teaches them that its important to be loyal to whoever owns you cause they care about you and thats what matters. and i want to see one of the toys from the first few films die saving the others.

Guys, you're missing the point. Andy Sr. tells Andy Jr. that the things in the trunk were something special to him during his childhood. The toys become special to Andy Jr. during his childhood and he passes them to down in Toy Story 3 to become the special thing in the little girls life. Those toys made Andy happy during his sickness and they made Andy Jr. happy during a time of mourning. Andy Jr. passes them down to share the happiness he got from them. Sharing the the joy he got from them makes him a happier person just before moving on just it made his father happier before moving on. Or am I just crazy? Please, if I am wrong correct me, but Toy Story is about sharing the joy you get from your favorite things instead of hanging on to them in a selfish manner.

Kevin Miller toy story three is about that, certainly, but the first toy story film is about being there for your kid when they need you, and doing things to make them happy. The second toy story film, on the other hand, is about standing by your child until they outgrow you, knowing that you can't stop them from growing up, but there's nothing you would rather do than to see it happen every step of the way.

    • @bucwhovian8305
      @bucwhovian8305 7 лет назад +18

This certainly explains why, at the end of 3, he talks about the toys like they are real (and yeah I know they actually ARE real but not to him they weren't) and as if saying goodbye to life long friends.
I also thought that it was a bit weird. Yeah chastise if you want, I didn't like the ending to Toy Story 3. The way he talks in that scene about a bunch of toys!?! You're 18 man, grow up! But if they were his late farther's, that makes a bit more sense. Still though he talks that way about toys his farther didn't own, so I still think that's a bit odd.

    IN-MOVIE EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT THIS!
In Toy Story 2 when Al tries to buy Woody at the garage sale, Andy's mom tells Al that Woody is an "old family toy." If it was just her son's toy, then she would have probably just said it's her son's and not called it old. I think the writer passing away when he did fills in a lot of gaps and problems I had about the 3rd and 4th movie. If the writers of those movies had know this information, I feel like Andy would have never given Woody to Bonnie. He not only had physical value but sentimental. Even if he was ignorant to the fact that Woody was one of a kind he would never had given slinky dog, Mr. potato head and Woody. I know I would have kept them as a keep sake my whole life, just because it was from my dad, if it was me.

Woody being a gift from Andy’s Dad explains why he was so hesitant on giving Woody away in Toy Story 3. But Andy gave Woody to Bonnie because Bonnie liked Woody, for her to play with him (Woody).
But in Toy Story 4 Bonnie’s love for Woody seems to have vanished.

@@MinisDunyasi5 I think that your statement about how Bonnie's love for Woody having vanished is true, and is the main reason for why he acts the way he does in the fourth movie. Woody isn't used to the idea of not being his kid's favorite toy, this has been shown very clearly in the first movie, too, and while it didn't last for long while Andy owned him, it was something that he had to cope with throughout the fourth movie. And looking at all the evidence we got about this, such as Andy having gotten Woody from his dad and Bonnie being a girl, it makes sense why she would eventually start to lose her feelings for him that she had when she first got Woody

Additional explanation about Polio, after I did a little research. The reason why a Polio patient's possessions had to be burned is because the virus can spread from person to person. Why doesn't Andy contract Polio after inheriting his dad's toys, Woody, Slinky, and Potato Head? The Poliovirus can only last for two months outside the body. The toys having been locked away for years as young Andy grew up, the virus, by the time Andy inherits the toys, will have expired.
Also, that trunk that Andy opens to find the toys is the same trunk we see in the films.

Andy Sr died around 1-2 years before Toy story 1 based off Molly’s age, which means Woody has only spent 2-4 Christmases/Birthdays with Andy Jr. When Andy Sr was a child, he probably didn’t get much considering how poor his parents were, meaning the fear of getting replaced was virtually nonexistent.

even though he doesnt remember it, since he was "asleep" or had just not yet "came to life," he doesnt exactly remember it. It could just be a little hint from the writers if they had known about the story gaps (which i dont think they did), or woody sub consciously was awake in some way?

Oh my god, this actually fixes a big issue I had in Toy Story 3. Because in 2, Andy's mom says Woody's an old family toy, so he either belonged to Andy's father or grandfather, so in 3 when they're all freaking out about being forgotten, it always bugged me that Woody was never like "It's cool guys, I've been through this before, he'll give us to his kid, it's all good. Don't even trip, dawg." because at that point, we're under the impression Woody has had previous owners. But this fixes that, it explains why Woody is trying to calm them all down but never states firmly that this has happened before. So if all of that is true, and I commend Mike for remembering all of that cause that is a lot to take in , it totally solves that issue for me.

What is interesting about polio is how it affects nerves and muscle tissue. In the photo where Andy senior wears glasses you may notice his head is semi tilted. This is because the secondary polo symptoms are progressing slowly. He is mostly crippled. He sees the camera and he is attempting to move his head enough for the photograph to see him and not his wheelchair. Even J said Andy crawled towards the pile where his toys were to be burned. This is because his legs are disfigured. It won't be until after his treatment he will gain a wheelchair which he is most likely sitting in as he gives the key to Andy. The burden from his heart and weak hand is lifted as he hands his son the key. Knowing he has passed on his most prized possessions he leans back and drifts off to the other side.

Nikki Blake Well, yes and no. She wasn’t taking care of him, but it wasn’t happening for that long. The other toys in the closet with Woody say that this it was the third time that week that Bonnie wasn’t playing with Woody. So, she was still playing with him, just not as much. Which actually makes sense as most kids tend to cycle through their toys over time.
But yeah, I didn’t like Bonnie in TS4 either 😑 Not because she wasn’t playing with Woody much anymore, more so because they made her more immature and frankly annoying. In TS3, Bonnie’s character is great because she may be a kid, but she’s a mature kid. She takes good care of her toys, she acts pretty grown up for her age (not whiny or bratty).
In TS4, she neglects her toys (at least when Forky comes around) and then whines and mopes when she can’t find him. Not to mention she leaves her backpack in the antique store right after her parents reminded her to not forget her backpack.
My guess as to why they made her so neglectful of Woody was to provide a better reason for him to go with Bo. Because if Bonnie still played with him a lot, it would seem awful for Woody to just abandon his kid because he still has goo goo eyes for Bo.

I would LOVE to see a Toy Story prequel (it could be advertised as an origin story), but I'm thinking the only reason they wouldn't is because it would be too freakin sad for the kids. Y'all apparently never met a child whose parent recently died. My daughter turned 10 a week after her dad died. We burried him just days before her birthday. We still had a party at Chuck E Cheese and guess what? She played with her friends and cousins and had fun! She actually got upset people kept telling het how sorry they were about her dad. She needed a break from the sadness.
My son was 3 when their dad died. He also had fun with friends and family on his 4th birthday 8 months later. You really cannot be sad ALL the time.
You don't lose your ability to smile and be happy when someone dies. Saddness often comes in quiet moments not in the middle of a birthday party.

Janet Leyva Yes but there acting like every child should feel upset during there first birthday party with out there parent. Every child like you said acts differently. She maybe upset but she needs to have fun as well and be happy. Just because her dad died means she can't have fun and be happy. I think her dad would want her to be fun and happy like Andy's dad.

Dead dad club member since 06, I was 14. I agree with a lot of this, let your kid have their life, the way they have it best. I, however, went to school the following day. which very likely lead to some hills I've had to climb. I believe making sure your kid understands what happened before they start their life again, is important as well.

The_Hermit's Perspective problem is today’s society want to baby our kids and shelter them instead of showing them the wrongs of the world and making them stronger for doing so. I got an argument with a lady the other day about the lion king and how children shouldn’t be shown Nazi army because the hyenas marched liked Nazis. I told the lady how are kids suppose to learn from our mistakes and make themselves stronger if we hide stuff like that?

Wow mind blown, this is great, this doesn't even ruin the movies they make them much more perfect and give me more sentimental value to the movies

Official cannon or not, Pixar needs to approach Mike for the rights to his version and hire him to write a script of this narrative and make a prequel. Prequels are the hot thing now so it would be a great move.

The story of Andy's dad is amazing. Those pictures of Andy senior are so cute and he looks just Andy junior as a kid.

Doesn't this explain why woody has a holster but no gun? If he's a prototype they might not have designed a gun of the correct size.
