Let’s be honest. How did this not come any sooner because it’s Seamus he is the Toy Story guy. Petition to make Seamus Gorman the world’s leading expert on the Toy Story franchise. Next to Disney sequels and Disney channel
Ikr. I still can't believe he hasn't done a Toy Story vid in years and he should've done a Toy Story Iceberg back when he made it his whole vibe. I have missed his TS content so much and I've missed Harry Potter/Pixar roots in general.
Actually, Toy Story 3 confirmed that Garbage Man. In the end credits, they have Erik Von Detten, Sid's original voice actor credited as the one voicing him, even listing him under the name Sid.
So weirdly enough, the 'how do toys come to life' thing has been addressed in Kingdom Hearts 3 of all things where it's strongly inplied that it is human's connections and attachments to toys that is able to bring them to life, which does fit pretty nicely with the whole concept of Forky; Bonnie's connection to Forky is what brought him to life
Thing is, the past movies debunk this. In Toy Story 2, Buzz encounters another Buzz who’s sole purpose is to be on display, he’s not supposed to be played with and yet he still is alive. Like sure you could say it’s the kids admiring him or something but I just… don’t think it’s that. Then again, Bo peep was part of a lamp so maybe I’m wrong or it’s just something that writers forgot about or maybe they didn’t feel the need to explain why the toys are alive and ig anything goes
It’s crazy to me that people thought Tim Allen was “cancelled” and Disney “didn’t wanna work with him anymore” because he wasn’t the voice of Buzz in Lightyear…when they, in the same year, were promoting a Santa Clause series STARRING Tim Allen.
This is probably Seamus' magnum opus. The quality of the content, the effort and love he put into this video is absolutely incredible. Even more when you know he KNOWS and LOVES what he's talking about. This is exactly a masterclass about Toy Story that needs to be preserved for people from the future to see!
The screenwriter of Toy Story 3 made an in depth video on how scenes evolved and changed throughout production. It actually has early footage of alternate scenes and is, as far as I can tell, one of the only ways to see scrapped content from Toy Story 3. It’s also a great insight into the creative process of making a film at Pixar. It’s available on RUclips and is called: “Toy Story 3: Mistakes Made, Lesson’s Learned”
fun fact: andys coming was a thing that character actors at disneyland and disneyworld would do way back when, but then the actors started to get like concussions from hitting their heads on the ground, so they stopped :0 now they have it as a little thing in one of the toy story restaurants in one of the parks where all the servers freeze when the speakers in the restaurant say 'ANDYS COMING" :D
24:16 Toy Story 2 was originally a straight-to-video sequel, then scenes were added to get it over 90min, then after years of work the whole thing was overhauled to be redone in 9 months. Disney's theatrical contract was for 5 original films, not sequels.
hearing you talk about Polly Pocket in past tense feels CRAZY. They look way different now and have had a few iterations over the years, but they're still around!
Fun fact: Boom Studios also ran an original Monster's Inc comic at around the same time as their Toy Story one. One of their stories was about Sid using the monsters' door technology to go around stealing other kids toys to stop them from going through the same trauma he did.
I'm pretty happy about how much of the "below the surface" facts that I recognized in this video. It still amazes me whenever I hear story of Toy Story 2 was deleted and how it was saved thanks to an employee who was working on the movie on her computer from home. That woman is a the hero in the PIXAR Stuidos.
I love this video. But I'd like to inform you that the 'Hakuna Matata' song they're listening to in Toy Story (95) was a Lion King cassette tape. I had that, Pocahontas, and a Disney Classics cassettes that I loved to death. It doesn't matter, but the second you mentioned it I remembered that yellow cassette tape like that scene out of Ratatouille. Thank you for the flashback. I love your Toy Story rants.
Ah, I love Toy Story. The first film I ever saw in the cinema with my Dad! I still have the original Woody doll he bought me too. I bawled my eyes out watching that incinerator scene in Toy Story 3 (and the one where Andy gives the toys away). I still cry every time I watch it. Also, I love that at 1:02:22 a wild Fraser appeared! Haha. I'd not even realised you were using his room to record. Superb video Seamus and well done on being so thorough on all the research!
Ok new theory I just came up with randomly The kid in the glasses? Andy's older brother, who died when Andy was a baby, too young to really remember or have lingering trauma. But it did have a lingering effect on the father, who blamed himself (maybe it was a car crash, and he was driving?), and he turned to alcohol to cope. This led to his relationship with his wife to deteroriate, and things only got worse and worse, to the point that for all intents and purposes, they were separated even if not yet divorced. Then one day, he went on the road while drunk, and you can imagine the rest. By then the marriage was so lost that the wife, Andy's mother, didn't feel much to mourn, hence the lack of wedding ring and the lack of photos on the wall. And it's consistent with the claim that the father's actually dead. Makes more sense to me than hanging childhood photos of the father on the wall instead of wedding photos or anything else where he was an adult, at least.
47:39 - god, i remember that being such a trend back in 2019, i was in school at the time and during break times people would shout "andy's coming" while playing sports or something and fall to the ground. the school had to ban it for being dangerous lol
I've never seen anyone talk about the fact that Pixar called Phil Vischer (founder of Big Idea and creator of VeggieTales) and asked him how he got Larry the Cucumber's cheeks to puff out. It was a different world back then 😅
I can't explain why but this video gave me so much joy. Toy Story /is/ your thing and listening to you talk about it is just... idk, it's so nice! If you ever considered making another video like that I would suggest Monsters Inc
My new favorite obsession is watching RUclipsrs 1+ hr long videos about their special interests it fills me w so much joy I know so much about Garfield and my little pony and now Toy Story
Something I was expecting to see somewhere in this video was the other, other, OTHER Toy Story 3 draft (also from Circle Seven) about Andy's mum getting remarried and Andy and the toys dealing with that
Technically they could cast Jim Hanks as woody. His brother. Jim does woody in the games, toys/merchandise, and the parks. And some of the Disney shorts.
48:38 it was actually true before. When I went to Disney Paris in 2018 I said Andy’s coming as I left. Because it was wet on the ground he just froze in place like this:🧍♂️. When I went to Disney world in 2019, he pretended to act all confused and the cast member photographer told us that bonnie owned him now so now he only responded to that.
I do have some serious problems with toy story of terror. The main one being that it horrifically misrepresents how trauma works, by trying to just cure the legitimate deep trauma she encountered by just having her spend extra time in the box.
Sid being the garbage man isn't a theory. He is literally called Sid in the credits of the movie, and has the same voice actor as he did in the original movie. That'd be like "theorizing" that Peter Parker is actually Spider-Man lol
Fun fact: this ( 48:33 ) was true and that was exactly what happened. Park guests were yelling it so much no cast members got anywhere on time, and Disney removed the rule.
The garbage man being Sid is confirmed because it is mentioned on the audio commentary on the DVD and the voice actor is the same. So, no doubt about it.
inabber appearing at the end felt like a crossover episode for someone who watches a lot of stupidly long videos in the background of whatever i'm doing- i didnt even recognize it was inabbers set up until he popped up and i was like: OHHH
This was excellent, Seamus! From one Toy Story megafan to another, it was incredibly comprehensive, and I really respect that you shed light on some of those darker subjects. "this does look like Andy" *me remembering how they used the same character model for all the childrem at andys birthday party in the first film* Could be any of them
9:44 I’ve been playing Toy Story Mania on my Nintendo Wii when I was young and I remember it as a really great game. The Toy Story fan in me loved it ✨

I had a different Toy Story 3 game for the ps2, it was actually like the story of thr movie but I don't remember all the extra stuff you were talking about. It was like Rex telling someone a story of the events of the third movie but there was also extra stuff like Woody's Roundup and Buzz levels you could play
As someone who’s ridden Space Ranger Spin and Toy Story Mania like a billion times cause they’re childhood favorites of mine and my family usually goes to Disney World at least one week every year, I can confirm for anyone that wants an absolute guarantee that Seamus’ research paid off, that basically described the rides to a t, the only thing not mentioned about Space Ranger Spin is that the “Spin” part of the name refers to a joystick in the vehicle that you turn and it moves the vehicle in different directions so you can properly aim at the Zurg Z targets (plus there’s a really cool Buzz animatronic in the queue), and a bit of additional information is that Space Ranger Spin is different from the other versions where the blasters are stuck to the vehicle which they changed when making Astro Blasters and the other versions where you can pick up the blasters and more freely move them around (though I can’t speak from experience on that, I’ve only been to Disney Land once and that was ten years ago, and I only remember Cars Land and the Iron Man 3 experience since I was 6 at that point)
The only thing I'm sad that you didn't mention is that Toy Story had its own Disney on Ice show in the '90s. Some of my earliest childhood memories are from the show
54:48 the question shouldn't be if these kinds of toys could come to life. The question we first should ask is if they would exist in the toy story/pixar universe.
Duke Caboom is NOT based off of Evel Kneivel, he is based off of the Canadian stunt driver Ken Carter. Mostly because Duke is Canadian and Ken Carter is more famous for the stunt he didn’t get to perform, a rocket-powered car jump over the St. Lawrence River, which was the subject of “The Devil at Your Heels” documentary.
Also on starwars references: in TS:1 after sid burns woodys head he goes “where are your rebel friends now??” At least I think they were referencing starwars lmao
Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue was a good game, but man was it hard for me to finish. I remember getting stuck on one level because I literally got stuck in an area and couldn’t get out. I think it was the rainy alley level.

YOU’RE A VEGETARIAN??!?!??!YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS I literally don’t know any celebrities who are vegetarian (that don’t specifically make vegetarian content), this makes me so happy
12:40 I think part of the reason Shrek 5 has hype around it and Toy Story 5 is somewhat maligned is because Puss In Boots the Last Wish has reinspired the love for Shrek . Another part of the reason could be because Shrek as a franchise has had points where the film's ending is open enough for a sequel but not to the point where it's too obvious, whereas with Toy Story, people argue that the franchise had multiple films that said "This is where it ends," and it just didn't (For me it's most obvious with Toy Story 3).
It took me a while to watch everything (I moved to a new country and started a new job so my time is very limited) but i absolutely loved this video !!

I went on the Toy Story rides several times as a kid (Florida born and raised) and your description is about as accurate as I could do anyways😂
I head canon that in Toy Story of terror, the guy who bought Woody is Al
Or possibly the curator of the Konichiwa Toy Museum.
YOU’RE A VEGETARIAN??!?!??!YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS I literally don’t know any celebrities who are vegetarian (that don’t specifically make vegetarian content), this makes me so happy
NEVER BEEN MORE HYPED FOR A VIDEO
RETURN OF THE KING
the toy story 3 game was me and my siblings' whole childhood 😭
Loved the iceberg format!
Another great video from Seamus
"you think you can do better"..... yes 😭
