RED did it again! And this time I must figure out a way to make 30K... Thank you for putting this video together so quickly, can't wait for tomorrow's livestream to find out more!
so incredible, just saw the A9III will be shipping feb 8th, but the fact that Red was able to keep and even extend the dynamic range makes be excited for the future of global shutter cameras
That Phantom Frame demonstration looks incredible. 1:1 with classic print film. If only the creator of that clip would show us the workflow and spoil their secrets 😔
With the Red accessories, you can almost buy the A9III. In the grand scheme of thing, I feel Red cameras are fairly priced, but their accessories on the other hand are just expensive no matter how you look at it. And what's up with the single slot CF Express Type B?
Question to whomever knows: Anyway we can get Extended Highlight capability on a firmware update with the RED Komodo X? That would be barry nicesh... keep in mind, I'm already in love with the cam so no biggie if not'
Wow your comparison between two different 3rd party DR tests comparing a quantitative imatest SNR=2 number for venice against a qualitative full patch range test for raptor is obviously extremely misleading... I should think youd know better.
Honestly, its that I know better is why I posted it. I know both tests. I also know REDs and how they perform. I also know how people test REDs with Imatests and how they almost always get it wrong because they attempt to test it the way they test a camera with internal noise reduction, where REDs have no noise reduction. I know and have studied Xyla21 charts for a long while. I have learned how to properly use them and the results. I have seen 3rd party analysis of all of these tests and know the successes and failures. I also know I posted the Imatest chart from a Sony A9III and not a Venice because it is the only other global shutter full frame sensor on the market. There is no question as to the dynamic range between the two. You find it misleading and that’s ok. If you’ll dig into these tests, testing methods and their results, you might learn something new. I learn something new every single day. I never stop. And what I learn, I share.
That's the thing. I have dug into it. First it wasn't clear you were comparing the a9iii, one would tend to assume you'd compare a comparable flagship camera. Secondly the imatest output you show clearly says "14.7" for the full patch range DR measurement which is the closest comparable metric to what red uses in their specs. Also worth noting that according to official specs, the new sensor also has 0.5 stop more (17+ stops) dynamic range as the EPIC Dragon (16.5+ stops) from 10yrs ago. This full patch range metric for measuring dynamic range is almost meaningless in practice, basically just measuring ADC bit depth.
Man this is my dream camera.
Always appreciate all your insights with all of this!
Thanks man, be sure you come back tomorrow at 4pm cst for the livestream with Jarred!

Yes, its possible. Everyone will get there soon enough.
Much better rundown and more detailed than other videos I have seen on this new release. Great job and much appreciated scott!
Awesome News Scott, looking forward to the live stream tomorrow

I was told no :(
Roger that, all goood'@@ScottBalkum
Hi Scott! Exciting news! We'll see ya tomorrow (Friday). Btw, YT only has a 360p version of this post?
ITs 4K now. They take forever. I wanted the video live!!! ;)
@@ScottBalkum oh ok, cool! I thought that was strange.
Jared forgot to send me mine lol .
Same
So no upgrade for S35 Raptors?????
I am told there is. But I have no details yet.
It’s extremely expensive in my country so as filmmaker I can’t even think about it
It’s not an owner operator camera. It’s for rentals and not 2 man production filmmakers…

Sony makes the sensor
No, they absolutely do not.
