Good to know that they used to do the day threes back in the day-it’s somewhat reassuring for an older mom to know this because there were many children born from the early days of IVF. Even though there’s a better chance with a day five or day six, it is harder for an older mom to get her embryo to five or six in lab. Day three gives us a chance.
I did my FET in 2008 and had two 3 day embryos transferred ( don't think they were really doing single embryo transfers then, even with blastocysts). Anyway, I got extremely lucky and they both stuck and I had twin boys. They were grown out from 2PN embryos that I had made and frozen ten years earlier, when I was 35. I find embryology to be a fascinating subject.
@VallavarayanVandhiyathevan I honestly don't know the answer to most of those questions. It was a very long time ago and there's a lot of details that I don't remember or didn't register because of how stressed I was. I do know that they each had 8 cells and I remember the embryologist complementing me on how good they looked. They were obviously the best two out of the four available from that batch. A few days after the transfer I got a call from the embryologist telling me that one of the lesser quality 3 day embryos had grown out into a good looking blastocyst and been refrozen. I don't know what the grading of that one was either, but I guess it was a good thing that I stuck to my guns about not transferring more than two. Sorry I don't have more precise details for you.
I’m over 40 and my embryos have been disintegrating before they get to day 5 so I kind of have no choice but to freeze on day 3. Then select the best looking Day 3s to transfer.
Hi I had my Ivf recently I am 23 had eggs 28 retrieved 8 were good but there is only day three one embryo all had not surivived for day 5 and doctors saying to transfer that one that we’ll be good for me

Finally got my answer on this question. Thank you for excellent clarification.

Thank you for the comment, I agree, I find embryology an often over looked but deeply important topic and quite interesting!
Great. What was the grade of your embryo’s, how many cells it had and what was the % of fragmentation ?
