- AMT 68 El Camino SS build update #1
Today I went into work early and painted the body of the El Camino. The hood came out poorly, but it may have been a good thing in the end. I decided to paint the hood, bed, and the lower rocker arm trim black. I think that will go great with the vinyl roof and black interior.
When I got home, I did a bunch of mold line cleaning. Then I put together the bed. Once that was done I put together the engine and cleaned up the desk for tomorrow. Then it was time to go up and play with Jake. Daisy was snoozing and couldn’t be bothered.

Very nice Mark, I like how you lay out your plan for the build. I think the red insert on seats looks good l did black on red seats in a T bucket came out okay. Waiting on the next one

Looking good. You are working with a great color combo. As for interior, a single bolster (pleat) on each side of the seat (seat back & bottom) would be a nice, understated look.

Thank you very much for watching. I think you are right about the seats. I will be doing the red bolster on each side with semigloss black on the rest with the chrome ring. I did give myself modelers fingernails. LOL I painted the body at work and was kind of in a hurry to get it sprayed before I started, and totally forgot the glove until I sprayed my fingers red. LOL
Can't go wrong with red!!! Looking forward to the next update. I'll be watching

I highly recommend the Tamiya paints! I always get good results with them!
For about two years Tamiya paints are all I've been using except for the acrylic hobby store black that I've been using on the head liners and inside of the hoods. They have always done well for me too. Thanks for watching.

I was so disappointed when I found out that you were building an El Camino. I despise El Camino’s and rancheros. I’ve just never liked them. Is it a car? Is it a truck? But, because it’s you and I love you, you know I’m gonna watch. I think the color looks great, and I am always excited to see what kind of color scheme you use. I think the black will really look good. By the way, I like your nail polish on your thumb, it accents you well lol. I sometimes use latex or nitrile gloves when spraying the bodies but I’ve noticed that static causes stuff to stick to them like dust and particles from sanding. And I have OCD so I keep a very clean bench and spray booth, so even with that, I still end up with stuff sticking to the gloves. Enjoy the build, I can’t wait to see your progress.
Chuck, you made my day. I'm sorry you don't like the El Caminos. To me they are the best. It has the Chevelle front end that I love without that long trunk. It's just the perfect lines. Just wait till you see what I end up doing with this one. I think if I can get away with it it'll be one of the coolest projects I've done yet. The wife also liked that ruby fingernail polish. LOL The things modelers put up with when they forget to bring gloves to work with them when they plan on an early morning spray. LOL

I love the color combo your going with for the exterior and for the interior I'd like to see what said you was thinking about with the seats. How do you smooth out those panel lines on the transmission?
Thanks for watching, and the kind words. For the lines on the transmission, I always start out by gluing the two halves as close as I can. When the glue dries I start with a flat file on the transmission fluid pan, then I use my Xacto knife with the blade held sideways and scrape the rest of it until there isn't anymore line. It takes a while, but looks great when it's all done and painted.

I wish they put one in the box. You know I stick to what the box offers and just try and do the best I can. Which isn't all that great most of the time. LOL
Model Car Garage has an excellent vinyl top kit. I highly suggest it! Check out my 69 Nova build to see how its applied and the model number for the kit.

would you like to put together a monogram chopper bike they don't make them anymore there easy to do i just couldn't figure out what size wire for brake lines and throttle line if would like to try one i will send one to you end of the month what do you think grandpa i'm trying to help
