@@woof.woof. yes, those are around 2.3 mm and 4 mm drills. 4 mm (5/32) is for removing rivet and 3/32 is for screw. You can use 3/32 or smaller drill for screw, I woldn't recommend larger.
Sometimes I have to sand the primer coat a fine grit paper to get a smooth finish and avoid orange peel finish….that could work for you too….and great job what you just did!!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏👏👏👏
Most important thing is to make fast moves so it doesn't apply too thick. Sometimes you will need to spray many times over the same spot because fast moves apply thin layer of paint , but you can stop when you are satisfied with result. If you hold spraycan too long over same spot, you will cover that spot very fast but paint will start dripping and it will fill all details on your model so it will look very ugly.
Great! Thank you, very useful video. I always had problems with spray painting. Sometimes I didn't put clear coat and sometimes I didn't had enough of it.
It's hard to say. Most of today's acrylic spray paints are good quality and you can use most of paints you can find locally. Good primer is key to painting. If your primer sticks good to surface then paint will easy stick to primer. I found two good primers in stores near me. Polish "Novol" and Italian "Dupli Color". I also use Dupli Color paints. Italian "Saratoga" paints are good too, and Serbian "Beorol". That's what I could find in stores near me and those all are general purpose paints. There are specialised paints for use in modelling, in spray cans, for airbrush or regular hand brush. Tamiya and Vallejo are two very popular brands, but they can be several times more expensive.
Yes, you can use regular acrylic paint in tubes, paint that use artists for painting on canvas. You can also buy acrylic paint in small tubes for school and hobby use. You can use almost any paint, most important is to use really small paintbrush. If details are really small you can use wooden toothpick for painting or some sharp piece of wood.
Yes, you can polish after painting but in that case I recommend using the highest quality primer, paint and clear coat you can find so you don't damage paintwork when sanding and polishing. It's even better to use airbrush instead of spray paints because paint will stick better to base.
I still don't have much experience with decals, but I think it's better to apply them after clear coat, because if you apply decal before, clear coat will not stick to paint on that place where decal is, and might fall off after some time.
I never tried but I am interested too for that. I had idea to try protecting some details on car, like manufacturer logo or lights, but I didn't tried. Im not sure will it work, I think that paint stripper can break through masking tape and dissolve glue on it. Probably some heavy duty tape should be used for masking, like aluminum tape.
I use Bartoline TX10 paint stripper for removing paint. Paint is not Tamiya, I use any spray paint that I find in my local stores. In this case I was using Dupli Color automotive products. Paint is acrylic.
That depends on how fast you are moving spray can and how much paint is coming out of can every time you press the cap. Some caps releases less and some releases more paint. I would say its about 20 strokes. You will see, when you start to lose details its time to stop.
Hi! Verry nice tutorial!! Can you please tell me why after painting a diecast, it looks and also feels like it was sand on it? (there car was clean). Thank you
It can be because of bad quality paint or bad quality spray cap. Cap is probably dispersing too big paint particles. You should try different paint brand.
So I ran out of primer but I have the color I want and a clear coat. Can I proceed to paint my hudson hornet? I already stripped the paint and on a tight budget and just want to do some restoration. I got a new set of wheels for it too. Just don't have a primer am I good to go?
Yes, you can paint without primer but paint will not last so long. Maybe it will start to peel after some time, depending on paint quality. But you can always repeat same process again if you notice any problems. You can always remove that paintwork when you have primer and paint again starting with primer.
What kind of paint to you use ant recommendations? And what do you use for after when the paint all done, what would you use to seal the paint to keep it from searching or chipping off?
I use just regular acrylic paint in spray. It's a spray paint you can find in every store. For protection I use also regular clear coat. I don't use some specific brand, I was buying the cheapest I could find. Now I'm not using spraying anymore, because i bought airbrush and i'm using acrylic paints for airbrush.
Hello sir. I have a question After paint removing.. is okay to use sandpaper and what grits 1200 or 1500 grit?? After Primer and base coat... do i need to sanding that model car ??
Hi. After paint removing you can use sandpaper to remove oxidation from surface so primer can stick better to surface. Also use sandpaper if you have some damaged areas on casting, scratches or casting lines. Grit 1200 is too fine for that kind of work. Use something around 300-500. Sometimes I use even files to remove some scratches. If you don't have some damages on car, it's enough to use only small steel brush. I use small rotary brush. When you start painting there is no need for sanding anymore. Sanding can easily damage your paint. Some people are sanding and polishing final clear coat layer to get ultra glossy finish but that can be very risky job, if you damage your paint you need to repeat all from the beginning.
Yes, you can use the drill to brush the car. It depends how much speed of rotation (rpm) drill can achieve, but most of drill can do that because you dont need too much speed. Try and see does remainings of paint come off or not. You can't damage the car with small brush. Don't use large and strong brushes for big surfaces because they can leave marks on car.
Yes, it's a good way to protect decals. I've done that in this video. ruclips.net/video/nzSGsm4pPrY/видео.htmlsi=6zb1SzWnvaiZUxLI I was using two component clear coat, but it's very similar chemical composition as clear coat in spray bottle.
I didn't used Metalcast colors but I read on internet about using them to get spectraflame look. Steps will not be the same. Most important thing is to strip all old paint from your casting and to polish metal until it's very shiny. You don't use primer. You spray Metalcast color directly on polished car to get spectraflame look and after that you can use clear coat on top. Clear coat should not change spectraflame look, but you must use glossy coat, not matte. Those are steps and car will look nice, but I'm not sure for how long without primer. Maybe metalcast color sticks good to surface, even without primer.
I think you can use it, but I would advise you to try on some other car first, if you have some spare junk car for testing. So you don't damage your real car in case that wire is too rough. There are various wires in shape of sponge, some will not work and some will damage your car. You can use steel wool, if you can buy it somewhere.
Are you asking about removing gray paint from aluminum wheels? Paint strippers can remove almost any paint from any surface. But if your wheels are spray painted, you probably won't need a paint stripper, a regular nitro based paint thinner will also remove the spray paint from the wheels and it's cheaper. Paint strippers are more expensive than thinners, but they can be used for strong colors. I would try with nitro thinner, and if it's not working then you can try with paint stripper. Thinner is dissolving paints and stripper forces paint to peel of the surface. After removing paint you can paint your wheels whatever you like.
I made a mistake, I should record bottle of paint remover. It's Bartoline TX10 paint and warnish stripper. But this tutorial is not about removing paint, it's about painting. There are many ways to remove paint, both chemical and physical. There are many paint removers and paint strippers on the market, you can also use caustic soda, paint thinners, nitro solvents, acetone and other agressive chemicals. Or you can use brushes and sandpaper, manual or with some electric rotary tool.
Bro i wanted to repaint my diecast model should i worry about the logos on it i mean once they strip off i cant able to get that logo again on the model..
If logos are printed on your car then you can forget on them if you want to strip color. They will strip off together with paint. But you can apply waterslide decals on your new paint. If done correctly, most of them look better than original logos. You can see here in my video how waterslide decals are applied. ruclips.net/video/nzSGsm4pPrY/видео.html You can print them or buy online, or ask somebody to print them for you.
If you dont apply clear coat you can easily scratch the paint. You can damage paint with you finger nail or even only by touching. Paints are very weak and they need protection. Exceptions are special paints that contains protection lacquer inside.
HI. Questions. primer and base are acrylic, correct? is is same with clear coat? if i place few coats of primer, can i sand it with wet sandpaper? do the same for base coat, more layers and then sending. after that even more clear coats? Also, regarding temperature, should car and spray cans be warm? can should be very good shaken, correct? if there is to much paint dust in air, should car be removed from dust so not to affected already placed paint that is fine for us? THX for answers :)
Hm, I must clear few things. Primer is same thing as base for paint and it's not acrylic. It's purpose is to make good surface for paint, so paint can better stick. Without primer paint would fall off soon. Primer is usually gray or black or white, it has no some special color. After primer you spray paint. Paints are usually acrylic. Clear coat is not acrylic, it is lacquer and it's used for paint protection. Without clear coat you can scratch your paint with finger nail. So, only paint can be acrylic. There is no need for sanding primer. Why would you do that? It forms microscopic structure on your object (in this case car) so paint can stick to primer better than to naked object. You also can't sand paint if it's not protected with clear coat because you will scratch it easily. You can only sand last clear coat layer if you want to get better gloss. But I don't do this on small cars like this. People sand clear coat on bigger surfaces (on bigger cars) to get higher gloss. Can should be very good shaken and you can hold them in warm water half hour before painting but it's not necessary, it should be enough to keep can at room temperature one hour before painting. Generally, higher temperature makes higher pressure in a can so paint better gets out of can. When you finish your painting put your car somewhere at room temperature so paint can dry, don't put car on cold place. And air should be clean, without any dust. If you have small drops of paint in the air this is dangerous to breathe without mask. You should paint outside and bring car inside to dry, or you should use painting booth. Painting booth is small box with fan and air filter. It collects all excess paint. Always wear a mask when painting, the best mask you can afford.
I wait at least one hour with Bartoline TX10 stripper, but when I removing paint from old Matchbox and Hot Wheels from '80, after one hour there is very little or none progress, so I need to damage paint first with brush or sandpaper and repeat process with stripper. Sometimes I need to repeat 2-3 times to remove paint completely, so it needs almost entire day to remove paint. I guess paint was more durable those days. That yours premium hotwheel maybe also has more durable paint so try to wait longer. While you waiting, put your car in some plastic box or bag so stripper doesn't evaporate.
It is small steel brush for Dremel, or similar high speed rotary power tool. You can see here how it looks. ruclips.net/video/LKoXgkrFN50/видео.html My brush is not original Dremel, it's a chinese copy, but looks the same and does good job.
Don't be sorry, just ask whatever you want. I would put clear coat on almost any paint. You will not make any mistake with clear coat, protection will be stronger. There are some special paints with lacquer inside, but if that isn't wrote anywhere on the package or if you are not sure, then use clear coat to protect paint.
If you don't use primer you can damage paint when touching painted object. Paint will fall off even without touching after some time. Paint can also drip when painting if you didn't use primer. Primer helps paint to stick on object. You can sand, file, brush or do whatever you want after taking off the paint, but all that must be done before spraying with primer.
You need to understand what is purpose of each layer. Primer and that glossy spray are not paints. Only acrylic is paint. Primer is paint base and it's used so paint can stick to something. Without primer everything will eventually fall of the car or it will be very easy to damage. Final layer is transparent lacquer and its purpose is protection. Without protection you can scratch paint off even with your finger nail. Lacquer can be glossy or matte. There are paints that contains protection lacquer inside, like 2 in 1 paints, but they are usually much thicker and it will cover almost all details on your car. So, if you will never touch you car after painting, maybe protection layer is not necessary. But if you plan to touch or even play with your car, you must protect your paint.
Any paint remover should always be treated as toxic. Always work in a well-ventilated room or outside. Many of the newer paint removers, like the Bartoline TX10 I use, are water-based and not very harmful because they don't contain methylene chloride. The instructions say that inhaling large concentrations can cause headaches and nausea, but for this type of use, a large amount of remover is not used, and I hardly smell it while working. I use half liter bottle of paint remover for two years, so you can get the idea what amounts of remover I use. Search for methylene chloride free remover, work in a ventilated room and be sure to avoid contact with the skin and there should be no problems.
I use regular acrylic spray paint. Paint that you can find in every hardware store. For detailing I use paint markers or artist acrylic paint in tubes, for painting on canvas. You can also use simple acrylic paint in small tubes for school use. I always try to use markers for detailing, because it's simple use, but when detail is really small or when I don't have marker in particular color, I must use acrylic paint with very precise brush or with tip of a toothpick.
Can we just spray it right away? I mean...can we just spray it without remove the original painting?(i really not good in english but i hope you can understand) answer pls
You can but result will be really bad. If car (or something else) is brand new then result will be ok, because paint is even layer and not damaged. But if your object have damaged paint you will have holes in that places after spray painting. Spray painting makes very thin layer of paint so every detail in shape or anomaly underneath will be visible.
Wait, so I want to start customizing and I need primer, my paint of choosing, and clear coat? Please explain. And what paint do I buy if I want to detail small things like headlights.
This video is only about using paint in form of spray so I didn't show other methods. You are right, you always need primer, no matter what paint you will use. Without primer paint will not stick for base. Then you use main paint. I'm using acrylic paint in spray can, as I wrote in subtitles in video. Most of spray paints are acrylic paints. Clear coat is for finish to protect your paintwork from scratching. Clear coat can be glossy or matte, find appropriate depending what effect you want to have. If you need to paint details, best way is to buy acrylic paint in small tubes and paint with small paintbrush, or even with sharp wooden toothpick if details are really small. You can find it literally everyhwere and you can mix them to get color you want. They are water based and will not damage main paint. If you paint details, paint it over your main paint and then spray clear coat last, to protect everything. Second way to paint details is with paint markers, but I don't recommend them for beginners, because they contain solvents that can dissolve your main paint and ruin everything. You can see in my other videos how I paint details with acrylic paints and with paint markers.
Yes, I think it should work. Beside paint removers or paint strippers you can use nitro paint thinner, it's cheaper and more easily accessible than paint strippers, but it takes more time to remove paint. Sometimes, it can take up to 7 days to remove paint.
Unfortunately, there is no good substitute for primer. The primer is used to create a good base for painting, so the paint does not peel off over time. But, you can always try to paint without primer, visually there will be no difference if the paint wants to stick to the model, because there are some paints that will run off without the primer. If paint wants to stick it can be a problem that the paint will not have such a good contact with the base and over time it can start to peel off. In my experience, it can take several years after the paint starts to peel off, it all depends on the conditions in which you store the model. Humidity, temperature, proximity to the sea (due to salt in the air), the quality of the paint, all that affect the stability of the paint. I have cars that were painted 3-4 years ago without primer and they still have nothing wrong with them. In the end, you can't mess up anything. If you are not satisfied with painting you can always remove paint with nitro thinner and paint again.
What brand of clear coat do you use exactly? Also are acrylic sprays better overall than enamels? I suck at this, I feel like I did a good job painting but then the I see a chip or scratch. Either the paint I’m using is too cheap or the clear is worthless 😬.
I'm using Dupli Color Special clear coat, made for using on cars. I never had problems with paint chipping. I was also using some cheaper clear coat and they were also decent. I'm always using acrylic products, enamel maybe sticks better than acrylic but both color types sticks enough good so you shouldn't have problems if you do good clear coating. I think paint is not the problem, maybe clear coat is very bad, or check expiration date on your spray. Maybe you are working in too cold or humid environment, or you need more clear coat. If you want really strong protection try 2 component clear coats. You have clear coat base and activator and when you mix that two components it starts to harden. You will need airbrush for spraying 2K coats but they are very strong and scratch resistant.
I'm not sure, I never had chance to work with that paint. You can check manual or technical specifications for product. If it's regular acrylic spray paint than you should use primer. If you are not sure it's better to use primer, big majority of paints needs primer.
I use Bartoline TX10 and I highly recommend that paint remover. It's very fast and effective. It doesn't contain toxic Methylene Chloride so it can be used indoors. You need very little of it to remove paint from one 1/64 car, like small tea spoon is enough, so it lasts very long time. It is made in UK, but you can find it worldwide, online or in local stores.
It is acrylic spray paint, manufacturer is Duplicolor. But manufacturer doesn't matter so much, you can use almost any automotive paint. More important is to use good quality primer. I'm sure that sellers in your local paint store can recommend you some good primer for metal surface.
You should remove the original paint, because new paint might unevenly cover old paint or fall off later. Also, painting over original paint in most cases will make thick layer of paint that would fill all details, like door lines, lights, front grill and all other details so your model can look very bad. But, you can always try paint over original paint and if you are not satisfied with results you can strip off all paint and start painting again on clean surface. In diecast customizing you can't make mistake that can't be repaired again. You can always repeat the process.
Primer is highly recommended for painting. Depending on the paint quality, some paints could start to peel off after some time. You can try without primer if your object is stationary, if it stays on some shelf and you don't touch it often. But if that object is in use or exposed to various conditions, temperature, sunlight, moisture etc, then you should use primer.
totally new to this, i wanna try it on a color changers, is it gonna work to remove the paint and apply another type or does it only work with the type of paint the other types of hot wheels come with?
No, there is no big difference. First, you must use primer. Then apply first paint and wait at least 12 hours for paint to dry if you use masking tapes. If you apply masking on paint which is not completely dry, tape will not glue correctly and when you remove tape you will remove paint with tapes. So wait first paint to dry, apply masking then spray second color and wait to dry, then remove masking tapes and spray clear coat in same way I was spraying in video. If you dont want sharp transition between paints so there is no need for masking tapes, for example if you want soft transition between colors, then you can wait only 30 minutes after every color.
No, you spray clear coat directly on paint. Primer is sprayed only directly to surface of your object. It acts as a base for your entire paintwork and you use primer only as lowest layer (first layer).

There could be several reasons why primer doesn't dry. First, is your layer maybe too thick? You should spray very thin layer so it dries fast. Maybe your primer has longer drying time, instructions on spray can give you some informations. Environment can also have an effect on drying time. Cold and humid air can really slow down drying. I don't know where you live, but if it's winter in your country or you have humid climate and you are painting outside, primer and paint can dry for hours. Primer should dry at room temperature where air is not humid. You can spray outside and bring your car immediately inside in warm and dry place to dry. Did your primer dried at the end?

I'm not sure if I understand your question. Primer is not paint. Primer is substance that helps paint to stick better to surface. Primers can be in various colors, usually light grey or white to accent surface details. But there are also primers in other colors, even transparent.

Yes. Clear coat goes on top of everything. You can see example in this video. I was applying decals and sprayed clear coat on top. ruclips.net/video/nzSGsm4pPrY/видео.html
@@WhattoRepairalso, if I am applying waterslide decals onto the windows of the car, what do I do? same process or do I put on clear coat or anything after that
@@sahilbadhesha9484 You must be very careful if you apply clear coat over windows. Clear coat should be sprayed on top, but it is often acrylic or nitro based so it can start dissolving plastic. Plastic can deform or become hazzy. If you can you should try first how your clear coat reacts with that plastic. Try to spray clear coat on some non visible part of windows, if there is any non visible. Use masking tape to protect visible parts. If plastic doesnt change than is safe to use.
You can try but paint will probably fall off after some time. Paint is already covering some details and spraying another layer of paint will make details even less visible. If paint have some damages, when you spray paint over existing paint, you will see holes in place of damaged paint. Maybe you will get some results but it will probably be crappy job.
I drill a hole in place where rivet was, I use 1,6 mm drill, after that I make a thread with M2 screw and I use that same screw for assembling. M2 is small screw with 2 mm diameter. I found that screws in old dvd-rom drive. You can find them in old floppy drives and other computer parts. You can see here how I make threads for screws: ruclips.net/video/Y65mlUSvVcE/видео.html You can see that in some of my other videos too. Some other people asked me same question so I will soon make a video how I disassemble cars and put back together.
You can try but it will probably peel off after some time. If you often touch painted object it will peel maybe same day without primer. There are paints that contains primer so you don't need to use primer separately. There are also paints that contains primer, paint and protection lacquer, all three things. But, in most cases, results are best if you use primer, paint and protection coat separately.

Cool never thought about clear coating as it looks much deeper. Thanks. 🤔
This is important tutorial for paint job I really like when you change color to be fresh new color step by step tutorial ☺👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
nice one, i didn't think i could use can spray i was worrying it will apply to thick , ill have to to give this a try

What is the best paint brand to use when customizing hot wheels?
Awesome
Thanks.
Recommend wearing gloves and doing this in a ventilated area with a mask
Great! Now I need a hot wheel
Amazing! What would you use to paint the tail lights and small details? Just regular acrylic paint?
Yes, you can use regular acrylic paint in tubes, paint that use artists for painting on canvas. You can also buy acrylic paint in small tubes for school and hobby use. You can use almost any paint, most important is to use really small paintbrush. If details are really small you can use wooden toothpick for painting or some sharp piece of wood.
Well done, and after this would you use water sandpaper 2000 and then polish?
Yes, you can polish after painting but in that case I recommend using the highest quality primer, paint and clear coat you can find so you don't damage paintwork when sanding and polishing. It's even better to use airbrush instead of spray paints because paint will stick better to base.
@@WhattoRepair Thanks a lot for your advice 💪🏻😊
If I want my Custom to have decals, should I apply them before or after the clear coat?
I still don't have much experience with decals, but I think it's better to apply them after clear coat, because if you apply decal before, clear coat will not stick to paint on that place where decal is, and might fall off after some time.
No, it won´t ...
@@WhattoRepair it’s actually better if you clear coat after applying the decals so they can be protected by the clear finish

Im not sure will it work, I think that paint stripper can break through masking tape and dissolve glue on it. Probably some heavy duty tape should be used for masking, like aluminum tape.
Please tell me what solution did you use for cleaning old paint and what paint ( paint from Tamiya ? ).
Thank you.
I use Bartoline TX10 paint stripper for removing paint. Paint is not Tamiya, I use any spray paint that I find in my local stores. In this case I was using Dupli Color automotive products. Paint is acrylic.
When your doing each coat how many strokes or sprays should you do in each one?
That depends on how fast you are moving spray can and how much paint is coming out of can every time you press the cap. Some caps releases less and some releases more paint. I would say its about 20 strokes. You will see, when you start to lose details its time to stop.
Feel like you had to flat the primer with 3000 wet sand aswel as first coat of colour
Hello sir. I have a question
After paint removing.. is okay to use sandpaper and what grits 1200 or 1500 grit??
@@WhattoRepair thank you sir
Do i need a rotary tool just to brush the car or can i use the drill?
Yes, you can use the drill to brush the car. It depends how much speed of rotation (rpm) drill can achieve, but most of drill can do that because you dont need too much speed. Try and see does remainings of paint come off or not. You can't damage the car with small brush. Don't use large and strong brushes for big surfaces because they can leave marks on car.
Hi. Do you think it's a good idea to do to clear coat over water slide decals or not?
Yes, it's a good way to protect decals. I've done that in this video. ruclips.net/video/nzSGsm4pPrY/видео.htmlsi=6zb1SzWnvaiZUxLI I was using two component clear coat, but it's very similar chemical composition as clear coat in spray bottle.
If I were to use a transparent colored paint, like Dupli Color Metalcast, trying to get a spectraflame look, would these steps remain the same?
I didn't used Metalcast colors but I read on internet about using them to get spectraflame look. Steps will not be the same. Most important thing is to strip all old paint from your casting and to polish metal until it's very shiny. You don't use primer. You spray Metalcast color directly on polished car to get spectraflame look and after that you can use clear coat on top. Clear coat should not change spectraflame look, but you must use glossy coat, not matte. Those are steps and car will look nice, but I'm not sure for how long without primer. Maybe metalcast color sticks good to surface, even without primer.
Question sir. Can I use sponge wire instead of wire brush grinder to clean the metal surface?
I think you can use it, but I would advise you to try on some other car first, if you have some spare junk car for testing. So you don't damage your real car in case that wire is too rough. There are various wires in shape of sponge, some will not work and some will damage your car. You can use steel wool, if you can buy it somewhere.
Can this method be use to spray paint grey gun metal aluminium 1:18 wheels . I want them gold not grey
Great video, though its only eye candy unless you tell us the materials you're using. Eg. "Remove paint". With what, was that Yoghurt?

You can see here in my video how waterslide decals are applied.
ruclips.net/video/nzSGsm4pPrY/видео.html
You can print them or buy online, or ask somebody to print them for you.
what happens if you don't apply clear coat tho? this has been going in my mind
If you dont apply clear coat you can easily scratch the paint. You can damage paint with you finger nail or even only by touching. Paints are very weak and they need protection. Exceptions are special paints that contains protection lacquer inside.
Do you dry it at room temperature or under the sun?
Always dry paint at room temperature, away from direct sunlight.
HI. Questions. primer and base are acrylic, correct? is is same with clear coat? if i place few coats of primer, can i sand it with wet sandpaper? do the same for base coat, more layers and then sending. after that even more clear coats?
I'm trying to put citrus spray paint stripper on a hotwheel premium and I wait more than 30 min but its not stripping off can you tell me whats wrong?
I really like this videos but i get a little anxious because it makes me want to do it.
What is the tools used for brush surface after removing paint
It is small steel brush for Dremel, or similar high speed rotary power tool. You can see here how it looks. ruclips.net/video/LKoXgkrFN50/видео.html
My brush is not original Dremel, it's a chinese copy, but looks the same and does good job.
Thank you bro
I am sorry I may be annoying but should I clear coat candy paint?
Don't be sorry, just ask whatever you want. I would put clear coat on almost any paint. You will not make any mistake with clear coat, protection will be stronger. There are some special paints with lacquer inside, but if that isn't wrote anywhere on the package or if you are not sure, then use clear coat to protect paint.
Do you need to spray it with primer? And can you sand it down a bit after taking off the paint?
If you don't use primer you can damage paint when touching painted object. Paint will fall off even without touching after some time. Paint can also drip when painting if you didn't use primer. Primer helps paint to stick on object. You can sand, file, brush or do whatever you want after taking off the paint, but all that must be done before spraying with primer.
@@WhattoRepair thanks for the tip 👍 🙏
so i need paint remover
primer spray paint
acrylic spray paint
glossy spray paint
is glossy optional?
@@WhattoRepair i get it now. thk you so much for elaborating more on this. hopefully i will have fun picking up this new hobby
Sir I don't have Rotary brush and drill
is the paint remover harmful if you breathe it in?
What type of spray paint do you use? And what type of paint do you use for like the detailing,(headlights, etc.)?
I use regular acrylic spray paint. Paint that you can find in every hardware store. For detailing I use paint markers or artist acrylic paint in tubes, for painting on canvas. You can also use simple acrylic paint in small tubes for school use. I always try to use markers for detailing, because it's simple use, but when detail is really small or when I don't have marker in particular color, I must use acrylic paint with very precise brush or with tip of a toothpick.
Thanks!!! And would it be fine to put the details in and then a clear coat over it?
Can we just spray it right away? I mean...can we just spray it without remove the original painting?(i really not good in english but i hope you can understand) answer pls
You can coming from my experience. The end result will not be as good though
@@daltonledbetter3110 thanks
You can but result will be really bad. If car (or something else) is brand new then result will be ok, because paint is even layer and not damaged. But if your object have damaged paint you will have holes in that places after spray painting. Spray painting makes very thin layer of paint so every detail in shape or anomaly underneath will be visible.

How do you get it back together after it's been drilled
Hi, you can see here how to take apart and assemble back together. I made entire video only about that.
ruclips.net/video/i8R5SuSHTMM/видео.html

👍👍👍👍👍💯
Its hard to find primer in my place any substitute for a primer to paint my car?
Should I prime bosny Honda red paint?
I'm not sure, I never had chance to work with that paint. You can check manual or technical specifications for product. If it's regular acrylic spray paint than you should use primer. If you are not sure it's better to use primer, big majority of paints needs primer.
what kind of paint remover do you recommend
I use Bartoline TX10 and I highly recommend that paint remover. It's very fast and effective. It doesn't contain toxic Methylene Chloride so it can be used indoors. You need very little of it to remove paint from one 1/64 car, like small tea spoon is enough, so it lasts very long time. It is made in UK, but you can find it worldwide, online or in local stores.
What paint are you using
It is acrylic spray paint, manufacturer is Duplicolor. But manufacturer doesn't matter so much, you can use almost any automotive paint. More important is to use good quality primer. I'm sure that sellers in your local paint store can recommend you some good primer for metal surface.
Do you have to take off the paint or can i just spray paint over the original paint
@@WhattoRepair what do i use to remove the paint?
I use Bartoline TX10 paint stripper. It's non Methylene Chloride remover.
Do you need primer or is it optional?
Primer is highly recommended for painting. Depending on the paint quality, some paints could start to peel off after some time. You can try without primer if your object is stationary, if it stays on some shelf and you don't touch it often. But if that object is in use or exposed to various conditions, temperature, sunlight, moisture etc, then you should use primer.
Thanks for the advice 👍
Well played WTR! Tks for the sub. I got you back!
totally new to this, i wanna try it on a color changers, is it gonna work to remove the paint and apply another type or does it only work with the type of paint the other types of hot wheels come with?
When you remove original paint you will have bare metal car and you can apply any paint type you like. Nitro paint, acrylic, or any other spray paint.
@@WhattoRepair thank you very much for the response, i greatly appreciate it!
Does the process change If it’s a split paint scheme?
No, there is no big difference. First, you must use primer. Then apply first paint and wait at least 12 hours for paint to dry if you use masking tapes. If you apply masking on paint which is not completely dry, tape will not glue correctly and when you remove tape you will remove paint with tapes. So wait first paint to dry, apply masking then spray second color and wait to dry, then remove masking tapes and spray clear coat in same way I was spraying in video. If you dont want sharp transition between paints so there is no need for masking tapes, for example if you want soft transition between colors, then you can wait only 30 minutes after every color.
@@WhattoRepair Thanks!
Yeah I got another questions. Should I prime clear paint?
No, you spray clear coat directly on paint. Primer is sprayed only directly to surface of your object. It acts as a base for your entire paintwork and you use primer only as lowest layer (first layer).

Question how should I let the primer dry cuz I test it on a car and it never really dried fully it was still a liquid after 30 mins

There are paints that contains primer so you don't need to use primer separately. There are also paints that contains primer, paint and protection lacquer, all three things. But, in most cases, results are best if you use primer, paint and protection coat separately.
