I was driven to my wedding in a Ferrari 308, and later in the 1998, I bought a 328. Ferrari is such an iconic brand-there’s something unmatched about its exotic appeal and legacy. Now, seven years into owning my Tesla, it’s still the best everyday vehicle I could ask for, and I’ve never felt the urge to replace it. On the other hand, I’ve restored my E-Type, and the experience is completely different-every stop turns into a conversation with people who share their memories of this classic. As for replicas, they’re a lot of work for something that can never quite capture the essence of the original.

That is Immense, what a project! My dad worked for Maranello his whole career and probably my favourite highlight was when he picked me up after school when I was 11/12 years old in the late eighties and he took me with him to deliver a brand new first Gen F40, he can't get into trouble for it now, so I will say we had it flat out on the motorway on the way to deliver it!!! That was also back in the glory days of no speed cameras, I don't think I appreciated it enough at the time as it was normal for me to get dropped off at school in Ferraris but looking back I was so lucky to have grown up around those cars and spending time at Tower and Thorpe on the weekends! I almost wish we had camera phones back then so I had more photos!
@@Ratarossa It set me off down memory lane, I remember when Tower had a petrol stration, there's a photo of me as a toddler in a legit Ferrari F1 car, think it was Gilles Villaneuve, We even had 5 in a Testarossa once, 2 on the front seat and 2 in the luggage rack behind the seat! My Dad had to drop me and my mate off at School when he had Ferraris so I timed it for maximum exposure at the gates and then he'd have to go back and pick up my sister to drop her off. They also did little jobs on a couple of my first cars in the workshop, This has brought back some great memories!
@ You might be taking the crown from Tavarish (nothing personal Freddy - I love your work, too.). My daughter and I give you both at least two female fans. lol. We’ll be watching. Cheers.
I remember seeing my first F40 tribute in NZ running a Lexus motor. Absolutely stunning build. As passionate as I am about the Ferrari brand, I'm a fan of these tribute builds. My personal F40 tribute would utilize a Challenge Stradale engine and interior as was the case where a Mondial was built with this combo and sold by DK Engineering last year.
I just love it. I whish i could be this brave and to build something for myself just like this. With time and step by step and just... giving nothing to anyone else's thoughts other than mine and what I want. My absolute respect 🙏 Plllllleeeeaaaasssse do a video on the Renault
Hi Scott, i thought that a F40 - au contraire to a 308/328/348/355 - did have an accesspanel behind the Seats? Am I not right? I am grateful for the panel in my 360 AND your video👍🏻, which saved me massive amounts of time servicing it ! Thank you for making your vids! Keep it up
I heard than engine fire up in a petrol station once and it was one off the best sounds ive ever heard! So excited for your build. Expecting 1hr long videos on each and every tiny detail 😂
awesome project! And oh yes the research! I spent a few hours deleting a turbo and a few days understanding how to do it... and that's for unscrewing something so just imagine creating something from scratch. What an amazing build
When replicas are done really well, in the examples as shown that use (in certain areas) real Ferrari parts and generally excellent level of foresight and top fabrication skill, then of course there's a place for them. When they're done badly however, well that's a different conversation.........
It's all about the passion and attention to detail, whether that's in re-creating a specific detail or making a modern component that's better than the 35y/o original fit under a F40-shaped shell. The F40 is a beautiful car, one of my all time favorites, but there are many other cars at this point that are better and faster and you don't need to be a multi-millionaire to get your hands on one of those. Hardcore DIYers can buy more powerful engines and better suspension components than the stuff factory race teams had in the 90s. Get the drivetrain and suspension from a salvage C8, build a tube-chassis, buy a fiberglass body kit and after some wrenching you'll be the owner of a 2000lbs F40-looking track weapon. A genuine F40 is something very special, but, when done right - as a car - a tribute build can be as good or even better than the original.
I would not know anything about Ferraris if I haven't seen your ratarossa car. I have never been interested in them because they were just to expensive and I did not understand the hype. However after seeing your cars I have a newfound appreciation for Ferraris and what they've done for other cars. If I can see a real Ferrari F40 once in my life I will be happy. However I will probably forget they even exist if I hadn't seen tribute cars😅
Cant wait to see it done mate any chance be do e by may for supercar fest lol i met you there last tear with the rattarossa and we had a pic great guy deserve so many more subs keep up the good work mate
I have only seen one of those in real life…..parked on the street in London ….i couldn’t believe someone was driving it around like a rover popping down to the shops! This was donkeys years ago about the time they were going mundane as the new what ever were being released relegating the F40 to the history books.😀
For the builders info - the Maserati V8 has been swapped into a few different builds. One that comes to mind is an 986 boxster in the USA. I believe the owner has auto crossed it. Sharing in case that’s helpful in chasing down any issues. Cool build you have there.

What an amazing story !! Your dad had a very cool job
HOLY SHIT!! Scott... you are an absolute legend!
thanks buddy
@ You might be taking the crown from Tavarish (nothing personal Freddy - I love your work, too.). My daughter and I give you both at least two female fans. lol. We’ll be watching. Cheers.
1:48 my god.. the stance is perfection. That car is beautiful. A dream
its lovely
OCD in me says the rear needs to come up, or the front needs to come down a couple mm
a few years ago a dentist here in Brazil built one f40, Ferrari sued and the car was recalled, I don't know how this doesn't happen out there
Interesting
I remember seeing my first F40 tribute in NZ running a Lexus motor. Absolutely stunning build. As passionate as I am about the Ferrari brand, I'm a fan of these tribute builds. My personal F40 tribute would utilize a Challenge Stradale engine and interior as was the case where a Mondial was built with this combo and sold by DK Engineering last year.
I'd like to see more on that Lamborghini Miura he's building
Many saying the same
I just love it. I whish i could be this brave and to build something for myself just like this. With time and step by step and just... giving nothing to anyone else's thoughts other than mine and what I want. My absolute respect 🙏 Plllllleeeeaaaasssse do a video on the Renault
Scott you are itching to do one ,go for it
CONGRATULATIONS YEARS IN THE MAKING ! Literally years since before 2017 you’ve been saying F40 the dream 🎉 proud moment
thanks buddy ... its actually about 37 years in the making since they launched the F40
Keep it up
No panel in any of those ... ferrari started to do that with the 360
I heard than engine fire up in a petrol station once and it was one off the best sounds ive ever heard! So excited for your build. Expecting 1hr long videos on each and every tiny detail 😂
Awesome! I will try
Video, we have been waiting almost as much as finishing that gorgeous 512 BB :)
awesome project! And oh yes the research! I spent a few hours deleting a turbo and a few days understanding how to do it... and that's for unscrewing something so just imagine creating something from scratch. What an amazing build
most people don't understand the amount of background work that goes into this builds. But its all worth it
When replicas are done really well, in the examples as shown that use (in certain areas) real Ferrari parts and generally excellent level of foresight and top fabrication skill, then of course there's a place for them. When they're done badly however, well that's a different conversation.........
TOTALLY agreed
What an absolute hero! Mate, you’re a legend for sourcing everything, can’t wait for the F40 chapter to start. Couldn’t be happier for you lad
Thanks buddy
How this channel only has 278K sub's blows my mind. Long time follower Scott. Thanks for your continued content mate. 🙏
thanks dude
I would not know anything about Ferraris if I haven't seen your ratarossa car. I have never been interested in them because they were just to expensive and I did not understand the hype. However after seeing your cars I have a newfound appreciation for Ferraris and what they've done for other cars. If I can see a real Ferrari F40 once in my life I will be happy. However I will probably forget they even exist if I hadn't seen tribute cars😅
Ill bring you as much of an F40 knowledge as possible steve with my nut and bolt rebuild
This is one of THE best videos I’ve seen on car builds by a long shot 👍🏻
Thanks
Cant wait to see it done mate any chance be do e by may for supercar fest lol i met you there last tear with the rattarossa and we had a pic great guy deserve so many more subs keep up the good work mate
Honestly I doubt it theres so much to do but .... the main hold up at the moment is parts and the cost of getting those last bits
yes yes yes on this build. have seen this in person, and heard it. It's magical. Made even more-so by Raf. Always judge a car by it's owner!
Highly agree
I have only seen one of those in real life…..parked on the street in London ….i couldn’t believe someone was driving it around like a rover popping down to the shops! This was donkeys years ago about the time they were going mundane as the new what ever were being released relegating the F40 to the history books.😀
Omg! Ive been waiting forever for this video to drop! F40 baby!!!
I looked at the F40 and thought there is no way I could make that!
For the builders info - the Maserati V8 has been swapped into a few different builds. One that comes to mind is an 986 boxster in the USA. I believe the owner has auto crossed it. Sharing in case that’s helpful in chasing down any issues. Cool build you have there.
thanks buddy very helpful ill pass it on
Can't wait! This is going to be awesome!
thanks dude
cheers for the heads up re. Pie,Scott! It really does work.My local paper was unreadable before as was The Independent but it's SOOO satisfying seeing them disappear.Thanks.Loving all the vids too of course.
Its really good, there are so many sites now cluttered with adverts, seriously satisfying to watch them disappear
HOW in GODS earth did YOU manage to collect all those F-40 original parts????
At great expense
@@Ratarossa Cheers M8. Give us the info and videos, we are dying round the globe to see it all.
Man the vids can’t come quick enough sooo looking toward to the f40 build
Money
@@normanvapes9197Problem is that a lot of those parts are unobtanium that money cant buy...
One of my favorite RUclips channels! Keep it coming!
Wow, thanks!
Just saw that video brother, 3 years ago ,mad!Cracking build tribute brother!👍👌💪💪💪🤝🇬🇧🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Glad you enjoyed it
Amazing skills from Rafael, would love to see more of his Renault 5 and Muira build, plus the VW T2 and T25 in the background. Get that man a RUclips channel or document it on Ratarossa 2?
Had to laugh at the massive locks on the flimsy garage doors with garden gate hinges.😆😆
LOL
That is amazing!! I can't wait to see the finished result, on his and your build. I too had the F40 poster on my wall, its my dream car. I can't help but browsing the ones for sale, its a beautiful car.
it sure is
The 328 build would be awesome with a longitudinal engine layout ie build the rear half of the car to carry engine and gearbox rather than the east west layout of the 328.
that's the plan, I will be lengthening the chassis to correct 288. But what engine should I use ?
Use the 328 engine and slap 2 big turbos on it 😜
@@Ratarossa keep it Tifosi 🤌
Every car manufacturer started in a garage, let the home garage guys have their fun. I'm constantly thinking about changes I can make to my 911C4S.
17:59 disagree on the front clam but each to his own
F40 build wow! Can’t wait for this
288 GTO , YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LET'S GO!
Great too see the car!! What an Epic journey and a tribute to Raphael’s skills and determination!! I’ve seen this car, it’s is awesome!! Well done matey….
I'd call that an improvement rather than a tribute. Who doesn't want an F40 you can drive to the shops for a pint of milk ?
Totally totally totally agree
Excellent project. That engine sound is sensational. Would enjoy seeing more videos on these projects.
Coming soon!
There aren`t enough replicas to diminish the real ones. Shouldn`t be a problem 🙂
is that because they get crushed LOL
That is the most beautiful Ferrari with the Daytona. Even though I own two Ferrari's, I have never owned an F40 or a Daytona. There is nothing like an F40.
6:20 Maserati intake, so Maserati "Ferrari" v8 engine, that's my guess
F136 from a GranTurismo
I'm gonna love those series
