@@idesignyou...9257 I'm not about to credit Craig as being "best in the business" without knowing all the players, but I really...*really* wanted to see how him stitch that binnacle!
I should say it was worth it!! The one and only Bianco BB512i RHD brought back to life. Of course having sold it new, I have a special affection for this wonderful Ferrari. With its non standard radio cassette and graphic equalizer. Which my buyer installed at great expense days after taking delivery. And showing it off with the then brand new Yes single, Owner of a lonely heart blaring through South Ken, outside our HR Owen Ferrari showroom.
@ I did, way back in 1983, at HR Owen, Melton Court in South Ken, London. My buyer had the stock Pioneer radio cassette with graphic equalizer to the right of the steering column replaced with I think a Trio or Kenwood system. I took a Guards Red 911 Turbo in part exchange. His brother later bought a new Anniversary Countach from me. He ended up buying Notts Forest FC.
Followed this build from day one, and it's so special. I admire your commitment and ingenuity to save such a special piece of automotive art. Its people like you that ensure such a masterpiece survives for the rest of us to enjoy. Thank you, and thank you for the content you've given us all. I wish you well with reaching the finish line with this project.
A tip for the central grille: Grind off the rivets from the inside of the clamshell with a finger sander or a dremel. That will ensure you wouldn't touch the painted surface and even if you make a mistake by accident and the sander/grinder slips off the rivet, you still wouldn't damage the paintwork.
Man, it’s a shame that Ferrari hasnt contacted you to help with this interior. The car is turning out amazing, Scott. This is the best channel on YT. You deserve at least 100x followers than you have.
Absolutely riveting content. I love how the BBi is coming together. I don't think you will regret knowing those bits you don't see are done as well as you can.
scott talk to Ian Tyrell he has a upholsterer who specialises in older ferrari and lambo interiors he would khow what that material is and where to source it from. nearly forgot the bbi is looking amazing !!
God, this car is beautiful. I always thought silver with black lower panels was the best color on these, but I now think solid white is its best color. Fantastic job!
Leather: Iain Tyrrell did a recent video on an interior restoration with a UK company called Leathercare, Ltd. Sounds like they could help you or point you in the right direction.
On the rivets on center grill, grind the flared side down and center punch rivets out and start over, by the way you are doing a beautiful job on the Ferrari, you should be proud, and anyone else that helped you should be also.
I remember the first posts on this car and I am still flabbergast at how little damage the car withstood from sitting outside in that driveway for so long. Outstanding job on this beautiful restoration!
Amazing progress, Scott! Definitely grind down the rivets from the back I would say, with something like a Dremel. Don’t let them get too hot, though! They’re aluminium so should grind down relatively easily. Someone else mentioned punching the rivet through from the front once it’s ground down a bit. I would want to try on a bit of scrap steel first! 😉
Another amazing transformation video on this wonderful car, Scott. This restoration is the gift that keeps on giving with these fabulous videos showing the car being brought back to life one nut, bolt and trim piece at a time! A compelling, fascinating and hugely entertaining watch; riveting in fact ;-)
Great update Scott. I think I'm more excited about this build now that I know you're trying to keep it rather than restore and sell to fund the F40. TBH, when I thought about the significance of the BBi, it would make sense for you to try to keep it. Outside is looking great and close to being done. I'm sure you'll remove the entire rear clam to install the powertrain, so no point in finishing it off. GL!
I remember walking my dogs past the BBI every day and thinking what a waste then turn up and bought it can’t believe that was 4 year’s ago doing a cracking job can’t wait to see it finished in all its glory cheers Al
I'm so glad that you're taking this restoration the way that you are. That is such a beautiful piece of Automotive History, and I'm so glad that that car is in your hands
Your tenacity is impressive. The car sat for so many years and was definitely on the path to an all too common end. Your goal required choosing the most difficult path, but anything less than a complete restoration would be a foul-smelling attempt. It baffles me as to how many people comment about what they would do or wouldn't do. Well, they aren't doing the work or spending their money, so their criticisms are like farting in public and expecting an award for their deed. This project is a monumental example of passion for the special interest car world. I salute you, sir.
Silicone spray from Halfords, attach the straw and spray it into the fabric sections of the window runners. Will help them operate way quicker and less stress on the motors. Spray is transparent too.
can't believe it, watched this journey from the start, its crazy i remember thinking, i'll never see the end of this car being fixed, yet here i am!!! well done, this has been my favourite project on RUclips by far! wish i could come for a spin once its done!
Scott, this is the build Im excited for. So spot on, document every step, will provide a higher price tag when its sold. Then...then lets redo the Ratty daily, and the full resto mod convertible Rattarosa!!
I still can't believe the previous owner let that rare Ferrari set outside like that for years. Heck, I keep my lawnmower in the garage. LOL It's looking Great Scott!
Scott, of course it’s worth it! Look what you did! awesomesauce bud. after watching all the videos, this is better than factory. there’s a reason why Sammy Hagar still has his 512BB… can’t drive 55! Can’t wait to see you rip it cheers
Wow that electric window contraption is INSANE. Looks like it was designed by a mad scientist . This is such a massive and badass project you have taken on m8. I really hope you get the whole car back in polished shape. Going to sell it when it is finished? I feel this car needs to live in a heated and spotless garage for the rest of its earthly life.
Love seing this bbi coming back to life it shows if you find the right car to restore you do it right and reap the rewards at the end and this car will be well sought after when it's done
Scott from memory the black and grey fabric was supplied by Ermenegildo Zegna the Italian suit material company. Maybe they can help supply new replacement material?
Rather than rivets, can you punch threaded screws? This will allow you to get the tool in with the grills out, punch the thread, then you just need the screw driver to fit into the grill, attach with a screw.
If that rivet gun is the Milwaukee M12BPRT-401B they sell a very long nose for it, but you need to use long rivets, but the long nose is very narrow and i bet will be spot on
Scott, this is really good progress, I'm sure you're anticipating the finish line. For the rivets, could you use a Dremel with a flexible extension to drill them?
We love the BBI resto! Best on the net. I'm stumped about the rivet gun issue, guarantee Ferrari have some special head, failing that do it from the underside? Good luck!
Massive progress in this video. Once the interior is in place, along with any electrics, it seems close to complete! ..i forget, is the engine in yet? ^_^
I used to work with still-life photographers in the 1990's who used that black window mastic as a very strong alternative to Blue-Tack. We used to call it elephant sh1it, or donkey sh1t. Very handy stuff!
Craig who does the interiors at Iain Tyrrell's workshop is an absolute genius and probably one of the best in the whole world...well cars come from all over the world for his work, and he is big on preservation and refurbishment rather than just ripping stuff out and replacing it...if he can save it and refurbish to as new he will.
I absolutely love this!!!❤ That car is coming together beautifully.. The Satisfaction of doing this car, you're definitely going to feel way different with this one compared to the others..
Loving this BBi restoration, great attention to detail and ingenuity overcoming the many issues. So wishing you a Merry Christmas and a productive New Year Scott.
Scott, drill out the rivets on the central grill from the back, black side. Less likey to marr the new paint on the exterior side. Better accress 90' to the clam surface too.
you can get the glass done custom for less than the cost price from ferrari, make a template and they'll do it to order. We got the windows made for a 330 p4 same method.. and was not stupid money. Same company mike brewer visited on wheeler dealers.
Use a very small battery or air die grinder with a tiny tungsten carbide burr with a 3cm shank. You will then be able to grind off the end of the sreel pin and either drill out the rivet head or continue grinding!
19:50 If you look at the lower right hand portion of cable, you'll notice a slight bend permanently impressed into that section. I wonder if you shouldn't slide the glass down to that spot to make it closer to factor adjustment. I could be wrong.
Search Tonka rivet tool. They are used on the vintage tonka toy trucks. Might be what you need to fit in that small space. I have no idea what size rivets are compatible with this tool.
The BBI looks spot on Scott. Didn’t even realise how many years you’ve been doing the car for, time flys, when all done get big Chris to help you Get it to Richard as I think I remember on one of your videos he said something about it………..and he’s got deep pockets Great video as always……..thanks for the hard work Scott.

Drill a hole in a thin piece of steel large enough to take the flared end of the rivets, put it over the ends of the rivets and grind them back. Stops you grinding the paint off the engine cover.
Great video and attention to detail. I can see from the way the car was originally built why people do not drive in the rain imagine all the water sitting in the grills 😂nightmare. Keep up the good work 👍

Ahhhh bloody brilliant ... you see I knew it was a great idea to leave it and get a much better solution from one of you. Thanks very much
Stole me thunder 😂
Exactly what I was about to say.. there’s two sides to every rivet lol
Put good masking tape around the rivets to ensure that if you slip off, you risk damaging your finish work less
Why not put a 90deg driver on a drill and just drill the rivets out from the underside? Or is too tight a space?

Ferrari really should be helping you with this restoration. It's a one of a type car
Gesipa angle headed 90 degree rivet gun. Lot smaller head that will hopefully fit in between the grilles. Loving the build 👍😎
Fit all the badges after a proper full detail
This car has got to be worth at least half a mill when it's done, it is so unique...!

Excellent - really enjoying this build. A lifetime's investment!
coming along nicely Scott looks epic 👌 🎉 try bespoke leathering in the Midlands I remember they were on a few episodes of car SOS
Its coming along great. Honestly, I didn't know this Ferrari model until you got it. Your hard work is paying off
make sure to tap the centre of the rivets in before you take a drill to them, I small screw driver or pick will do.
Yeah, my biggest issue restoring my 3.0 944 turbo is finding shops that can do the work correctly to my standards.
Starting to look like a car again. Impressive work, as usual.
Those side clamps for the center grill can always be put on with some Mansory glue. I saves you a lot of risky drilling.
Scott, drill out the rivets on the central grill from the back, black side. Less likey to marr the new paint on the exterior side. Better accress 90' to the clam surface too.
Love the look of that back hood Scott and son happy to see you back on it ! Looking great 👍🇨🇦

Use a small dremel to remove the rivets.
If you use solid shank rivets you can use a pneumatic rivet squeezer. They have different dies that are thin and have a long reach.

Drill a hole in a thin piece of steel large enough to take the flared end of the rivets, put it over the ends of the rivets and grind them back. Stops you grinding the paint off the engine cover.
Suggest Sikaflex those rear vents in, and prep a few stainless countersunk screw heads (cut off and glue in the holes).
so much pay-off and satisfaction at this phase, and SO well earned!

Heat guns when used carefully can replenish the finish on faded plastics. There’s a Tic Tac video of it being done to stadium seating 👍
