The one part you wondered about but didn't quite get. When Mary M. Went back to the tomb. It was foreshadowing for what she will be doing in the future at Jesus's tomb, being the one who found it empty.
Is there something wrong with me? How could i not notice that
That scene broke me.
What I hadn't considered before was the level of chaos and fear as Lazarus rose from the grave, but now after seeing this episode it makes total sense. A dead man rose up and walked out of a tomb in burial cloths! My heart would have been in my throat. 😮 Such a good episode
It really hit When that woman started to scream, and then Andrew’s reaction. His I think was the toughest reaction because it was so visceral. He was ready to run!
For me, the reason why Jesus wept was because of everyone’s unbelief, especially His followers. They’ve been following Him for 3 years and still didn’t fully understand who He was. The Chosen highlighted it sooooo perfectly! The way Jesus was looking at everyone, it broke His heart. In the previous episodes it showed how frustrated He was by their unbelief as well. He knew He had to go through with it and die in order for them to fully believe. My, my, my. Loved this episode and your reaction! 🫶🏾
In the aftershock they discussed that besides knowing what He was going to endure, he knew what his Apostles were going to endure and also knew the pain and grief he had put Lazaurs's sisters through.

I thought Mary staying back at tomb was a foreshadowing of what's to come because she's the one that finds the empty tomb.

When I read in the bible, "Jesus Wept," I thought he was crying for Lazarus, but when I saw this, I knew that was not why he was weeping. When Mary was walking towards the tomb, I wonder if she felt the weight of it.
I met pastors who actually studied that line "And Jesus wept" and it was reveal to them that it was because he was overwhelmed with the LACK of faith sorrounding him. The fact that anyone there believe what he was going to do, hurt him.
My favorite quote of this episode is when Lazarus says to Jesus after quoting the Book of Isaiah about Jesus’ suffering, “They were just words on a scroll, but now … they are about You!”
I felt that too. It hits different once you realize Jesus was an actual person, had loved ones, felt ad hated pain like we all do. Yet that was tge fate in store him, for our sake. And God had to sit and watch all that pain and suffering be inflicted on His only begotten son. That's so heavy 😭
AND Jesus was a childhood friend...can you imagine what Lazarus was feeling afterwards??? WOW...this series really makes you THINK!!! Brings the words in the Bible to life!!!!
I watched the after show and Dallas said that Tyler, I think, was the one who wrote Mary’s monologue. It was not scriptural, but very powerful. Those writers are so good. They pray over everything before they write it.
Beautifully acted. They had her write a psalm, like David.
Paul was a roman Jew who was fully against the Christians. He believed that they were committing blasphemy and sought to kill and destroy them. Jesus met him on the way to Damascus, where he was on his way to find and imprison more believers. I love this part of the bible Acts 9

The event was both bitter and sweet in real life. It was joyous for Lazarus and his family and friends, but it was also the event that set in motion Jesus’ journey to the cross. He wasn’t weeping because Lazarus had died, because He knew He was going to raise him. It was for those around Him, the pain the mourners were going through, the disciples who weren’t understanding what He was going to have to go through. This was a picture of what Jesus was going to have to go through, and He surely had sorrow know what He was going to endure.
Love your reactions to the Chosen! Just to clarify, there are no actual Mary writings... the poem at the end was something added by the Chosen writers (it's beautiful and I cried my eyes out, but it's not an actual Mary writing). There is a false gnostic gospel written hundreds of years after the actual gospels, that was supposedly attributed to Mary but it is considered a false doctrine and in complete opposition to the original writings of the Bible. Dallas clarifies this as well to make sure that people understand that they are not referencing this false teaching. That's why they added the line in the conversation between Mary and Matthew that what she "wrote" in the Chosen storyline is only for her, and not for anyone else (except of course for Matthew!)...she wasn't trying to put her own recollection out there for anyone else to see. So while it's plausible that Mary could have written things about what happened to herself, there is no proof of her writing anything. Hopefully that makes sense!!

But expert have shown their is a gospel of Mary but it lost you do know their are some accounts of the Bible are lost about the story of Jesus and even the apostle John confirmed this in John 21v25 go and read it yourselves because I am not discrediting the Bible but their some accounts which are lost like I said don't believe my word read John 21v25 yourselves and you'll understand what I mean. ❤

You wonder why Judas doesn’t realize that nobody else is worrying about the things he’s worried about.
I think it is lack of humility. He thinks he understands more than the others and his ideas are better. Instead of learning to rely on God and live simply, he only sees things that confirm (or deny) his own understanding
Whats sad is that alot of people felt like Judas did. They thought the Messiah's soul purpose of return was to defeat Israel's physical enemy (the Romans) but God had something bigger picture in mind. Christ's death freed all man from sin,death and the control of the prince of air. The devil our true enemy. If Judas hadn't offed himself before Jesus resurrected,Jesus would have forgiven him too. Just like He forgave all the disciples for running away. Just like He forgave Paul for persecuting His church. Just like He forgives us today. No one is out of reach of His love, mercy and grace. We have all sinned. We all need to repent and recive His gift of salvation. What a beautiful God we serve. Glory to Him alone!
Oh and not sure if you noticed, but Mary standing at the open tomb was a foreshadow of the day she would be standing at Jesus' empty tomb. Beautifully done
The reason they were confused and didn’t get it in the bible .
Is cause they were younger mid Teens - early 20s
They never would have expected him to have died but rather be glorious and defeat the romans ( which he was ) .
Paul was at the stoning of Stephen...he held the coat. On the road to Damascus Jesus spoke to him in the light and he was blinded temporarily.
Also, I don't know if anyone else clarified it but when Saul/Paul met Jesus on the road to Damascus, Jesus Himself gave Paul/Saul the commission to be HIS Apostle to the Gentiles ..... To be an Apostle, was to be given that call directly from JESUS HIMSELF
So to clarify on whether or not Mary actually did write anything, she didn't. There's no evidence to support the idea that Mary actually wrote anything. Could she have? Sure, but it's been lost to time if it actually ever existed. What people will most likely be talking about, or were as I saw in the live chat when this episode premiered, is the 'gospel' of Mary. It's claimed to have been written by Mary, however studies have shown that it couldn't have been as it was written within the 4th or 5th century (300-400 AD). It's also a gnostic book, which gnosticism was deemed a heresy by the Catholic Church as it promoted heresies. The 'gospel' of Mary wasn't the only gnostic book that claimed to be a 'gospel'. There's also the 'gospel' of Peter, Thomas, Barnabas and Judas along with Mary, all authors claimed to be written by the books namesake, all proven to be forgeries and gnostic heresies as they push heretical teachings such as:
-Mary and Jesus being married
-Mary and Jesus having a daughter
-Jesus, during His youth, killing and putting curses on others
-Teaching that the body is evil
These are just a few of the heresies that gnosticism teaches, thus why the Catholic Church deemed that belief a heresy and rejected these so called 'gospels' when the Church began canonizing the books of the Bible.
The raising of Lazarus was a joyous thing to some, but it is what caused the religious leaders to finally follow through with their plan to arrest Jesus. They even intended to kill Lazarus in order to quash the story. So it was a mixed bag, even if the disciples did not see it that way at the time. But they knew it was dangerous to go to Jerusalem. So I think The Chosen used this episode to show that mixture of reactions.
At least several months (or more) have passed since Ramah died, and that makes it clearer that it wasn't the right time for Him to do such a public resurrection when she was murdered. Jesus had more work to do. Even though it is fictional, it would have let the "cat out of the bag" too early.

The look on Jesus’s face as He Looked around at all the people right after he raised Lazarus was so devastating. He knows now that the Cross is closer because this is the last time he will do anything like this on earth. He knows now that he has to die and suffer and that must’ve been so scary and sad at the same time. He knows that everyone he looks at its gonna betray him and turn and run. Except for Mary, John and his mother. I can’t even imagine how that must’ve made him feel.

I totally understand Erika's overall feeling about the show. Knowing this episode was going to be about the resurrections of Lazarus I was totally expecting a very up-beat hype episode that would be a lot closer to the feeding of the 5,000. But this told that story from a very somber and sad point of view of Jesus having to see his friend die, his other friends (Mary & Martha) suffer in order to do the will of God.
Added onto this was seeing Thomas have to reexperience his grief over losing Rahma and Jesus not saving her. And Jesus also sad that so many of his disciples still don't understand what he's been telling them. I'm not upset at the episode, I absolutely loved it but it was not the type of episode I was expecting to see.

So powerful! A deep and special episode. Mary at the tomb, to me, was definitely like Easter. Mary is a key factor for who he appears to first and finds his tomb empty! He is Risen!
Also, I feel like he was weeping cause he knew what was to come after he does his last sign. Probably a mixture of the pain everyone was in at the time also. Thank you for reacting! Gotta love The Chosen!
He’s called apostle Paul. Got changed through getting his sight back. And he had Timothy under him.
Don't forget that this follows soon after Jesus rebukes the disciples when Gaius the gentile proves he has more faith than they do.

It just occurred to me after this, the fifth time I’ve watched this episode: knowing her personality, it was probably Mother Mary and Martha who put ON the grave clothes, so it’s only fitting that they be the ones to unwrap Lazarus.

21:19 so for some context, Laz is in shock because 1. he was just dead, but also possibly because of where he was when he died. Before Jesus died, no one could enter the presence of God in the afterlife because no one was considered clean yet. Remember: the animals only covered the sin and no one was freed from the curse of Adam (until Jesus died). There was a separate section of Hell for them called Abraham's Bosom. Abraham's Bosom was close enough to Hell that the people in each section could see each other and probably even have conversations. The two sections were separated by a fiery river so that no one could get to Abraham's Bosom unless they died and went there. So, when Jesus took the keys of Death and Hell, he defeated death and took Satan's power off of those in Abraham's Bosom. When Jesus left Hell, He brought the Saints (those who resided in Abraham's Bosom) from Abraham's Bosom up with Him. Some say that the Saints were seen roaming the streets. When He went back to Heaven, He took the Saints up with Him so they could finally be in the presence of God for eternity.
When I think about this, I like to imagine how it must have felt for those people to be freed from Abraham's Bosom, but also to watch Jesus do it. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, Daniel, every one of them were in Abraham's Bosom. To finally know the Messiah has come, to finally be free from Satan's grasp, and to watch Him fight for them and their freedom. It thrills my heart and excites me.
Also, the excitement David must've felt knowing the Messiah was in his bloodline? Wow.

Paul was originally Saul. He persecuted Christians everywhere and had them tortured and murdered. He would kidnap some and torture them for information on the whereabouts of other Christians so he could kill them. He was on his way to Damascus to kill and torture more Christians when his horse knocked him off. He heard a voice say, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" to which he replied "who are you?" The voice said "I am Jesus, the one whom you persecute." Saul looked up and saw Jesus standing in front of him. Jesus said "Now, get up and go to the city and you will be told what you must do." When Jesus disappeared, a great light blinded Saul. He got prayer from a Christian in the city that Jesus also appeared to. Long story short, Saul turned into Paul, like Simon did to Peter, and began spreading the gospel of Christ everywhere he could until he was eventually arrested and murdered for his belief.

This was an amazing episode! This is so powerful, and so many different ways! The joy of Lazarus, walking out of the grave, the sadness of Jesus, knowing that doing this is going to put him on the cross, and, of course, the sadness of Thomas. Judas is obviously on the wrong side of the tracks for this whole thing. He is completely off book when it comes to everything happening with Jesus. He’s so off-the-wall with his opinions and how he feels that now I can understand why he would do what he did. And it just makes it more evil. I don’t feel sorry for him at all. It makes me angry that he never once listen. Really listen to what Jesus was saying. He never stopped thinking his own version of Jesus existence. His version of things was completely the polar opposite of everything Jesus talked about, and everything Jesus was doing. It’s setting up a very scary scenario where Judas is now very dark.
Judas had a role to play in all of this. In a way, I feel the sorriest for him. His job was to betray Jesus and be hated for all of eternity.
They are setting up Thomas to doubt the resurrection of Christ later on. :)

- Compassion for Mary and Martha.
- For His apostles because He knows what they will go through to build His church.
- For Himself because He knows there is no turning back after this.
After His first miracle at the wedding in Cana, it catapulted Jesus into His ministry. His last miracle was in the grave and the beginning of His passion that eventually led Him to the cross and His own empty tomb.

That said, Judas (and other people/disciples perhaps) still envision the Kingdom being 'of this world'...as Jesus explained to Nicodemus.

If you see this. Read Isaiah 53, it was a prophecy from 700 years before Jesus. Talking about how he'd be a man of no majesty, his beauty would not matter, a man of sorrow, he would be pierced for our wrong doings, and with his wounds we are healed. It's really incredible how much it matches him. How great it was fulfilled. He did it for us.
There are writings attributed to Mary Magdalene that are not in the Christian cannon. Some consider heretical and written by other people.
The story i like of peter is right before he was crucified, peter fled rome in the night and on the road leaving rome peter saw Jesus walking towards rome. Peter asked Jesus, Lord where are you going? Jesus answered to go get crucified. Peter knew that this is what God was asking of him ro endure. So peter turned and headed back to rome to be crucified. Not as the Lord but upside down because peter felt unworthy to be crucified as our father.

@PhilipManzano could it have been Mathias, the person that takes judas's place. The Bible says he was always around, but they have yet to introduce him. With judas now going to the dark side, it would be a good time to do so.

They are completely incapable, incapable of understanding who Jesus is. This is why Jesus is so grieved, he feels he’s been so clear and it just hurts his heart so badly that they’re mine simply are resistant to the reality that Jesus has been telling them. Lazarus knows it Lazarus gets it. It’s just Grieving over what’s going to happen to his best friend. Like he said, he loves Jesus and he doesn’t want him to suffer.
The disciples clearly know who Jesus is, they just don’t understand what He came to do.
Oh and I don't think I've ever seen Nathaniel so angry as he was behind Judas' crazy statement doubting Thomas's faith.... Actually I just don't get Judas at all. He is so far off in left field!

This is why Jesus is so grieved, he feels he’s been so clear and it just hurts his heart so badly that their minds simply are resistant to the reality that Jesus has been telling them. Lazarus knows it Lazarus gets it. It’s just Grieving over what’s going to happen to his best friend. Like he said, he loves Jesus and he doesn’t want him to suffer. And everyone needs to understand that Jesus didn’t heal everyone all the time. That’s the reality of Jesus. He doesn’t heal everyone no matter how badly you want it and feel you deserve it.
