THE "Jesus Wept" depiction was one of the most heart-wrenching scenes in episode 7. Truly, one could feel the emotional anguish Jesus was feeling in that moment.

I disagree. I felt it was more staged acting of him weeping. It really didn’t seem too authentic. As you really don’t see the tears out of his eyes.

It's a shame people are mad it came to theaters 1st. They should consider that this brings in funds for the next 2 seasons. Being translated into 600 languages takes time and money as well. We support the project when we go to theaters, and it also brings interest to secular viewing that brings people to the Lord. Thus, the project is literally reaching the world 🌎.

I didn’t realize until I read an article in the news earlier today that people were upset that the episodes haven’t been released to stream yet. I was fortunate to make room in my budget to see season 4 in the theater.
I appreciate that you explained how by going to the theater helps fund the projects so now I don’t feel so bad. Season 4 was just so beautiful. The only odd thing that stuck out to me is I don’t think they should’ve used such an old actress for Elizabeth. No one really knows how old she was other than she was outside the age of childbearing. In Jesus of Nazareth they used an actress in her 50’s. I think that would’ve been more appropriate.

The wait for us that weren't fortunate enough to see it on the big screen is not easy. I understand the financial aspect of it being seen in theathers but seeing so many spoilers or comments isn't easy. I'm hoping it will come out quickly after the end of the theatre run. I also hope the conversations will be repeated for those of us that had to wait. I will purchase the DVD when it comes out like I did with all the other seasons. Happy for those that were able to see it already I hope you can all understand that the wait is hard.

I get home long enough to unpack, do laundry, and repack just to head back to the airport on sundays or mondays. I would 100% pay for streaming. I feel these guys are doing an amazing job. Up until last year i had no interest in God or Jesus until someone on a plane told me to watch this show and now i cant seem to get enough I now crave a relationship with God. I didnt own a bible but now i have 3 plus study guides. I listen to scripture every night to go to sleep. Beacuse of Dallas and the actors and crew I'm seeking and building a relationship with my lord and saviour.

When my son died, one of the prayers I said or cried out to Jesus was you raised Lazarus why not my son? The Actor that plays Thomas looks exactly how those of us in a catastrophic grief look, he did an amazing job. I call it the "walking dead." It was so difficult to then cry to our Lord I cannot get through this without You, please help me. And He has, my son is the first thing I think about when I get up in the morning and the last at night, but without Jesus I could not have survived it. His acting was phenomenal.

BrownEyedGirl331: There is no grief from loss greater than losing a child. God created us to experience love and attachment to our family.
It's primary in our "human," experience.
So it's true, we do not want to experience loss, and we will beg God to return loved one's to us, or allow them to remain with us.
But the truth is our spiritual state/condition is primary to God. Also true, we don't know the spiritual purpose of the events in our life. Why does a miracle requested of God happen in Xs life but not in Ys life? Why does X suffer excruciating pain? Why does X get justice and why Z doesn't?
We can pray and pray and pray for a specific outcome, and never receive that outcome. Others appear to experience the outcome they requested, while others dont.
It is extremely difficult for believers to surrender to the will of God, because we naturally don't like the outcome and because we can't understand the (God) purpose of that outcome.
"Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven," is easy to pray, but very hard to live.
I am a mother and can't imagine a greater pain than to lose my child.
God bless and bring you peace.

When Jesus buckled under the weight of sadness and grief, it was because of all you said PLUS I believe as he was looking at his disciples one by one, he was sensing the future grief they would experience at his upcoming death. He loved them as his own and, if he could, he would spare them the intense grief, fear, and confusion that was going to hit them. Everything in his present and future was hitting him hard! ❤

I read a commentary once that posited that the reason Jesus wept at Lazarus’ tomb was not because he was dead, since Jesus knew he would be resurrecting him, but he wept because of the lack of faith from the disciples. Just a thought…

    • @janiceervin428
      @janiceervin428 7 месяцев назад +7

Yes exactly. Jesus told either the Blessed Mother or Lazarus (?) how frustrating it was the deciples they couldn’t seem to understand what was about to happen to him, and he was out of time.
Also, for layering, the wage of sin is death. Jesus abhors death. We were not designed for it, so it’s not synchronicity to our being. It comes in during Genesis, in the middle of the Bible, Jesus weeps, seeing the pain and despair death brings to others, he knows the same despair will happen to those he loves who love him, and at the end of revelations it’s the final for to be conquered. Which means it will be a time where all sin is gone, and death is eternally conquered. ❤

I have conducted funerals of young children. I wept with their families, mothers especially. One scene that I really loved was the scene with just Jesus and his mother. She was doing the mother thing and messing with his dampened hair and as he relaxed, he spoke of the disappointing shortcomings of even his disciples; arguing who would sit on his right and left hand in his kingdom and such trivial, fleshly matters. "Mary" replied "They are human." He replied, pointing to his heart, "Also human." That was so touching and made me realize how hurt Jesus often was.
Isa 53:3 "He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief. Like one from whom men hide their faces, He was despised, and we esteemed Him not. 4Surely He took on our infirmities and carried our sorrows; yet we considered Him stricken by God, struck down and afflicted. 5But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.…

The table and clean up needs to be done and the women sit and catch their breath before they start working. It was heart warming to me to see this. It's my favorite episode and Joey is a massive reason for it. I also really like how thomas didn't just have that conversation with jesus at the tomb and then be like "okay i get you" no he's still FUMING. also about the camera movement, to me, it helps me visualize the reality of that scene. mary and martha are just sitting there and they're supposed to be stationary, so the camera being stationary too and showing the whole room gives that more realistic "this is what it would look like"

There were two songs by classic Christian artist Dennis Jernigan, author of “You Are My All in All” that came to mind after the two episodes. After the resurrection of Lazarus, I thought of “Make Me More Free” where Dennis said in his story behind the song that he was inspired by Lazurus’s grave clothes. He wasn’t fully free until those came off.
And then later in the finale when Mary (spoiler alert) anoints his feet there was another song of DJ’s came to mind “Anoint My Heart For Burial”. It’s more spiritual in the context about hearts being ready for heaven and also a song of comfort through suffering.
Just thought I’d share that after seeing these episodes.
Great breakdown by the way. :)

I really enjoyed this episode and love your overview. And I also found your view/interpretation of the scene with Mary and Martha in the dining room with the high/wide shot. I think you have a good point and it is a breath of fresh air. I also noticed that in Mary's dialogue she gestures to the room and mentions to Martha that she is surprised Martha isn't busy cleaning it all up (referencing episode 5? or 6?). So I thought the wide shot could also be to give us a look at the mess... which honestly looks like a normal house to me. But that moment when Martha chooses to ignore the mess and continue talking with Mary gives her a very good character arch... Love these discussions!

I think there are at least four plot paths pushed forward by the death of Ramah:
    1. The impact on Thomas that might lead to his statements about dying and not accepting Christ's resurrection without personal evidence.
    2. The change in Roman hierarchy in Capernaum leading to Gaius being ready to ask Christ to heal his son and who knows what else. I think Quintus--reduced to centurion--will crucify Christ.
    3. Kofni pushing the Sanhedrin to act. We have seen this already starting with that body changing from concern about Christ to some of them wanting Christ dead. I think you are correct that there is more to this theme. Christ's mission on earth was to suffer, die, and conquer death and that needed things to push the religious leaders and the Roman officials to act. Ramah's death pushed Kofni and he could be leading the crowd to demand Christ be crucified as you mentioned.
    4. Setting up Matthew 27:52-53. "and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people." (NIV) Random people could be raised, but why not people that we have come to care about?

Though if Ramah comes back to life at that point, she would need to show up to Thomas after he has truly believed in Jesus on his own. (That's when Jesus appears to the disciples with Thomas now present.) Ramah's last words (wish) for him was that he should truly surrender to Jesus. I don't think that "believing in Jesus because now I have my Ramah back" would do it for me.

Finally, a chance to say a few things! I love this series. It is brought me even closer to the Trinity, which I’ve been very close to 81 years anyway. Just a couple things. First of all, I wish they had not replaced Philip. I really loved who played Philip in the beginning. Nothing against the new guy, but why did he leave, I wish they’d get him back. Sorry new guy. I just really liked him and I loved the way he treated Matthew. I’m having a hard time understanding why the apostles had such a hard time understanding what Jesus was telling them over and over. Maybe if he stopped, calling himself, son of man Just said me or I it might’ve helped. Look at me telling Jesus what to do how terrible forgive me! I have researched this, and in the beginning they were only in their teens and only Peter was 20 and he was the only one that was married. I researched their deaths as well. Most of them even Paul died in their 60s and John made it to his 90s. But, Big James was the first to be killed I believe. Some of them I couldn’t find anything about like Nathaniel, but, most of them died a horrific death. I couldn’t find anything about the new apostle who replaced Judas. I think his name was like Micah or Michael but there’s not much information on him at all. Anyway, there is so much to learn for instance, I was shocked to find out that Mark and Luke were not apostles, but just disciples but, they wrote two books of the gospels! However, they all did wonderful job spreading the good news and building the Christian faith! God bless them all!

Thank you, I always love your commentary and going back to the bible understanding of the script. Keeps me grounded. I never realize the extent of the verse "Jesus wept". I always knew it was for far greater reasons than Lazarus' death and that Jesus was also weeping for the brokenness of life in the flesh for all men - but failed to realize that, yes, his sacrificial death is imminent, and there is his very human-ness of having to lead the rag-tag group of followers with their own struggles and personalities, resulting in frustration and friction.
I dont mind spoilers, i mean the entire plot is in the bible! 😂 But i do appreciate the telling and development of the facets of these incidents mentioned in kinda matter-of-fact manner in the bible. And your analysis give it an even deeper and more meaningful insight. :)

I loved this season. I think it's the best one yet. I loved how they portrayed Thomas. Joey's acting was phenomenal! I also especially loved the scenes with Jesus. I could see how everything is a set up for what comes later ... maybe even Ramah's "return" as one of the many who were resurrected after Jesus? The one thing I'm having a hard time with is their portrayal of Little James. I think they put too much focus on our own modern and incomplete understanding. I don't think Jesus would have not healed a disciple in pain like they are portraying Little James as being in.

I remember listening to a teaching about Lazarus. What really struck me is the theory of why Jesus waited until the 4th day to raise Lazarus from the dead.
A teaching of 1st century Jewish culture was presented. It says the soul stays near the body for 3 days before departing this world. At the 4th day, they are really dead. The point being that only God could raise someone from the dead at this point. It wasn't just some trickery or spell calling the soul back into the body.

Brandon, I truly value your comments and opinions regarding the episodes. The Gnostic gospels weren’t discovered until the 1940’s. Right after the Dead Sea Scrolls. Mary’s gospel would not have been allowed because she was female. The Pope (Clement 1)? declared her a prostitute to discredit her. There are 26 different versions of the Bible and who knows which is the true version. I accept Jesus on faith and I trust in him. I don’t always trust religion. That is just my opinion. Sometimes we have to look past the rules of religion. I thank you again for your valuable insight and sharing. I am so excited for the season to start streaming soon. Lol, I won’t ever look at the word “soon” the same. Many blessings and hugs to you and Vanessa.

Where on earth are you getting this from? The only writings we have from Pope St Clement is 1 Clement, and that does not speak of Mary Magdalene. The gospel of Mary was a gnostic fabrication that was written in the 2nd century. In the early Church and indeed for most of Church history, women were not allowed to teach, this was because such a role was that of the Apostles and their successors, the bishops.

The most common tradition for him is that he was thrown off the pinnacle of the temple and then beaten to death with clubs. I looooved how Judas was depicted in this whole episode. He is so excited, and it is heartbreaking to see, because he is right about this being huge, but so wrong about how this is going to be. Also, it makes me so worried that sometimes we are all like Judas, wanting Jesus to be the way we want, to do things like we would, wanting positions of power and money. It is dangerous to go down that path. I also love he was wondering about Thomas not being among Jesus' sheep because he doesn't understand His will, but Judas is the one not getting any of it, and he is the one who's not among Jesus' sheep.

Actually, i think SOME of the people (here in the U.S. anyway) who are complaining about Season 4 going to the theaters first (and not being able to afford to go see it in theatres) are perhaps not being completely honest. We live in a country where people blow their hard earned cash on far less significant things. Be honest! I paid roughly $15 for each ticket and I'm not rich by any stretch of the imagination. It was money very well spent. This whole Chosen project costs money. Especially with the global reach they are trying to attain. Not trying to bash or shame anyone here. But for the ones criticizing the theatrical release, you need to see beyond your own situation and look at the bigger picture. Not to mention the fact that they will get to see it for free very soon - on the Chosen App. I don't know of many (if any) studios that do that!

I think some of us truly cannot afford to go to the movies. Also some of us have physical issues that make it impossible. And some of us work afternoons and/or evenings and cannot go.
But i don't think people are angry, i think they are frustrated because they are waiting to see the next season and have to wait even longer because of things beyond their control.
And lastly, there may be people who give to the pay it forward fund to help others to see it by whatever means and they are probably not angry at all, just anxious to see this. Just some food for thought....

I like how we are seeing many of our recurring characters coming together at the end, and presumably to be there in Jerusalem for the next few seasons. The Bible many times mentions the crowds of people following Jesus, not just disciples, and the "many woman" following him. But, for a TV show, it would be overwhelming to have so many additional followers, when the cast is already gigantic. So I really liked (in ep 8 so I won't spoil it) seeing some familiar faces again, followers of Jesus, and I realize that we DO have a large cast of people who can be considered followers to fill that position of the "additional followers" without too many unknown faces.
