Our bonnie has wheels with raw alloy rims, which very difficult to keep clean. It’s much more difficult with OEM chain, which needs a lot of lubricant to prevent rust. So, we decide to install gold chain. Also, was interesting to use unique EK master link which is installed without special tools. Good solution, cheaper, than rivet tools. Installation is easy, but still possible to break the link at first time, so video should be useful. We compared OEM chain with high strength EK ZVX3 - there are some notes.

having a time with the install of mine. i tightened the nuts a few times, but never had silver of the pin exposed out of the outer plate. made it all the way to bottomed out on the nuts, and probably started stripping. looks like the inner threaded area is through, but can't see silver to confirm the plate is seated fully.

I think I am missing a part.
After tightening and breaking the two pins. You can grind them a bit.
And then what ? How can you be sure that it will hold ?
The outer plate of master link is thicker than inner plate. So the pin is reliably pressed. This is patented technology by EK, works good.
@@Stuntex you said the master link only works with specific chain, do you mean it only works with chains of the same pitch or only EK chains?
@@gabrielibarra5551 The master link is specific to EK and the particular chain. As in you will need the master link specifically for the chain you are installing. An EK 525 ZVX3 will only fit that chain.

Rear sprocket had worn in wrong direction ;) What about front sprocket..
The sprocket is worn out as it should be) Teeth are not bent, but cut (grinded) by chain's rollers, what is why it looks like bent in opposite direction. The front sprocket is steel, and lasts about 20000-25000km.

Yes, aluminium. 10000 km is normal for alloy sprocket.
@@Stuntex Yeah, that's normal for aluminium. I was just surprised to see that on a road bike that isn't a performance machine
@@AnIdiotOnTwoWheels Yes, we made custom bike and was interesting to decrease the transmission losses. The rim of the wheel is also alloy, so it weights much less than OEM.

Hello I have other brand 530 chain.I can try the 530 size screw in master link?What's the difference Ek chain I think is only marketing to buy EK will work other brand chain no?
Just ordered one of these links (from Germany as they don't appear available in the UK) after watching your fine video. However I'm a little puzzled as to what is going on between 2:26 and 21:56. It looks like you are gently pressing the plate in to position with the special nut but then just tightening the special nut anyway afterwards??? I don't understand. Please clarify. Other than that, a nicely done video
Colin Robertson we installed this link first time, and we controlled the outer plate position with caliper. It should be pressed evenly. it’s not easy to make the same turn every time, so without control you can skew the outer plate.
Colin did you fit link and what’s ur thoughts I have all the tools as I race bikes but this idea seems quick and easy. Can you say how it is and what’s ur thoughts on strength
@@bretsimpson9890it works great, we recommend! But take into account, that master link is thicker than others, and can touch frame/engine/subframe is clearance is not enough.
