    I'm in SoCal, the high desert to be exact. We had some snow up here twice since Thanksgiving. Got my AXE couple weeks ago and the stock foams when soft were awesome. Rock hard when cold and unusable in snow and ice. Truck was just spinning in its place and getting stuck. Not to mention, flat spotted. Swapped out to Proline 2 stage and the difference was night and day. My AXE is a beast and went everywhere in all conditions. The stock rubber is more than capable in my case.

    Great video. I like the way you think about your content. I’m running G8 Krawlers on my Capra and G8 Hyrax on my TRX-4. I hadn’t really thought about doing a shootout using one of my rigs to see the difference for myself. I am thinking about a pair of Predator Krawlers up front on the Capra keeping my G8s on the rear.

    What at first sold me on the Krawlers was the fact that I've seen a lot of 1:1 rock bouncers with that tire on it. I too like them more so than the Hyrax.
    The only bad thing about this video was that Scout body hanging up on various parts or the course.

    Great vid, I think you would get better performance with: CI 4.75 lil nova comp cut foams. Soft outer in front wheels/Med outer in rear wheels. Install one CI Tuning disc in each tire on exterior facing side of the wheel. The tuning disc will stop that tire fold you are getting, especially on the rear wheels when you are hitting those inclines. Also vent tires.

  • @DopeLobbies
    @DopeLobbies 4 года назад

    I really wanna say it’s how the tire tread is on the tire it’s makes the hyrax alittle more stiffer because of the smaller lugs but more of them and then the krawlers are softer because of the bigger lug. That’s my take on that. I’ve ran the axial krawlers they were good. But I just upgraded to the predator Krawlers still using stock foams. Might change that soon.

  • @TerraQuestRC
    @TerraQuestRC 4 года назад +2

    Nope, not just the foams. Extensively I have tested and modified 5 sets of the Interco's, my opinion is that the casing is too thin or too soft of rubber compound. This allows the larger lugs to fold over/push into the shoulders, while the inner lugs tend to get compressed together and just forms a larger lug which gets depressed into the centerline. Cutting, siping, and using products to soften the rubber seems to compound the issue.
    All the sets were about to be tossed out into the trash bin by my group and myself, so no real money wasted before they finally ended up in the bin.
    I am not saying that the tires and foams, combination thereof are worthless however. Area and driving style they may be perfect for many.... just not for what I and my group are running on, which is steep, loose, dusty trails with fairly smooth rock obstacles.
    The Proline Krawlers in either compound have become my favorite, they work quite well, while looking the part and not at risk in a SORCCA event. Haven't heard of anyone not being able to compete with Hyrax.. but considering the tires that have already been banned and the rule itself...
    I'm looking forward to trying out the JConcepts Landmines 1.9"
    And trim the rear panel and push the bumper in some.

    I'm curious as to why it takes your proline tires so long to hook up. My hyrax tires grip on soft ice soaking wet, I'm not a big fan of venting the Hyrax, equal pressure disbursed over the rock seems to aid the hook up massively, plus I dont look like a dummy draining water out of vented tires when there isnt a single 1:1 running "vented tires" on their vehicle.

    • @skirmich
      @skirmich 4 года назад

      1:1 can actually lower their air pressure which ALL OF THEM DO to gain more tire contact on the ground.. Vented tires are simulating under-inflated tires which is the norm in 99% of off road.. Unvented tires simulate full pressure tires which is what off road vehicles use while on road so.
      Vented tires = OFF ROAD/CRAWLING
      Un-vented tires = ON ROAD/TRAIL.
      "I dont look like a dummy draining water out of vented tires" you will look like a dummy using vented tires in WATER at all.. People running vented tires should never go into water for pretty damn obvious reasons.

    • @jscott893
      @jscott893 4 года назад

      Well it's a shame you or any of the guys that do it believe its accurate simulation. There is about 3 psi in my tires as they sit with the stock foam creating the pressure. There is absolutely no reason to vent these tires. I have videos of them non vented wrapping around the corners of boulders almost touching the bead lock. I've tried both ways and the venting is just for nerds and newbs that have convinced themselves it helps. I'll do you one better. If your ever in northern colorado you can put your rig up against mine any time and your vehicle with holes in its wheels can be seen limping away.

    • @skirmich

    • @skirmich
      @skirmich 4 года назад

      I mean its like YOUR opinion and that its fine and all..
      There are many ways you can screw up a tune with vented tires; Incorrect rig weight, Incorrect foam hardness, Incorrect foam stages, Incorrect tire material, Driving on water, etc.. Unvented tires are pretty hard to mess up and will overcome a lousy tire tune pretty easily.
