    I love the double plot twist in which you thought at first that he was an incredible shooter, then you start to believe he is just a pretender and by the way he acts you really thinks thats the truth, until he demonstrates he was indeed a hawk eye.

      That’s not the case, if you remember. He has been in battle along with Denzel’s character. Denzel wouldn’t have asked by name, to recruit “Goondnight” otherwise. At the first fight scene in town, it should have indicated anything but a fraud.

    I found it very interesting that Ethan Hawke’s character was suffering from shell shock.
    At least, that’s how I interpreted his behavior.
    He was in the mindset that something was coming after him, because of everything he had done in his time of service.
    This was great movie.

    • @indianasquatchunters
      @indianasquatchunters 4 года назад +29

      Juan Carrasco Shell shock or ptsd wasn’t new during this time. There are reports of some knights having some symptoms of what we would call ptsd. My guesses as to why it wasn’t really looked into until WW1 range from psychiatric knowledge wasn’t as advanced yet, macho-man culture where you didn’t admit it was a problem or talk to people about it, or the social stigma around it. War is supposed to be about glory and is romanticized. Veterans aren’t supposed to come home worse than they left it.

    • @jliller
      @jliller 4 года назад +17

      PTSD wasn't new in WW1 or even the American Civil War, but several factors caused it to become more prevalent:
      1. Sheer number of men involved. Even if rates didn't go up, the total number of cases would.
      2. The "shell" part of "shell shock". Artillery bombardment, especially on the scale of WW1 or WW2, is beyond what soldiers had previously experienced.
      3. Historically, campaigns might last awhile, but combat did not. In the American Civil War, armies would march a few days, fight a battle for one to three days, some more marching, then a lull. Sentries and pickets tended to have informal truces. Men generally had a time to recover, physically and mentally, in safe areas. That changed in 1864.
      The Overland Campaign used by the Army of the Potomac in ways far beyond simple casualties and even unit cohesion. WW1 had the men stuck in trenches for extended periods of time. If you're on the front line, you're not safe.
      In wars like Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq there was no clear front line so there was no safe zone. Same effect.

      Nostalgia and shaking was common between some veteran knights. But the amount of explosions and the duration of the tension and paranoia is what made ptsd what it is. I mean, hacking others to pieces in a melee for few hours must be horrible, but 3 months under constant bombardment it's something different

  • @kit2770

    I just watched this movie last night. It was good. I enjoyed it. In the 1960 version, the baddie was an outlaw bandit and his gang, but for the 2017 version, instead of a bandit, he's a ruthless robber baron. I like that change. In a real present-day world where the "robber baron" has (unfortunately) made a comeback, this helps audiences to connect with what they're seeing on screen. Denzel's character gets some good back story tied in with the baddie. Ethan Hawke's character is compelling. And Red Harvest, Billy Rocks, and Jack Horn are interesting new additions to the Seven.

    My uncle terry who was an army vet and my dad who got 2nd in his platoon in marksmenship with the M14, always told me kind of the same thing when they taught me and my cousins how to shoot and use guns properly. They would say you hav to think the target is going to shoot back or shoot somebody you care about for you to understand why accuracy is more important then speed, fast is slow and slow is fast was what they always said. Most ppl probly don't think a 11 year old learning how to use a gun properly is okay, but I'm glad they did teach me bc I can't stand when someone says they don't believe in guns like its santa-claus, bc telling someone who has a gun pointed at you bc you don't believe in them isn't going to say, " Oh you don't believe in guns. Then I won't shoot you, go on your way I want to shoot somebody who does believe in guns."
