In this edition of Coaster Madness, we'll be taking a look at the coaster collections of the Cedar Fair parks. The best three coasters at each park will be put up against each other in a single elimination "Big 3" coaster tournament to decide which park has the best trio of coasters. Who will come out on top? Some were really close. I would have picked KI over Carowinds but thats just because those top 3 are some of my personal favorites
That one could have easily gone the other way... I really value having that "elite" headlining coaster in lineups though, which is ultimately what gave Carowinds the nod.
@@ParkPros I was confused at Orion being missing but then checked the publish date.
Now that they have Orion this is an easy win. And diamondback is still one of the best coasters of all time for airtime, the feeling of floating constantly it’s great

I love seeing Canada's Wonderland be really highly seeded, and then have the footage you use for Leviathan, Behemoth, and Yukon Striker be basically the same.
True, parks were seeded based on attendance though... their lineups had nothing to do with seeding.
@@ParkPros Yeah, I just thought it was kinda funny the Top 3 coasters at CW all had standard B&M drops.
I think Canada's Wonderland deserves to be highly seeded 100%. It's my home park, so I'm biased, but that park sees crazy crowds and super popular with the people living near the park. Plus idk how Worlds of Fun could beat a stacked B&M trio like what Canada's Wonderland has. Take Behemoth and Mamba lol. Let's see a B&M hyper or a Morgan hyper? Yeah, exactly :D RIP Worlds of Fun

Also think on that one you should have used Thunderhawk. It is a non-painful SLC, which is rare to find.
Finally, you should do this also with some of the major independent parks like Kennywood, Holiday World, Kentucky Kingdom, etc.
I think that's a great idea for the next time we tackle one of these tourneys!
That would be stacked for Hersheypark. It's technically an independant park.
Kings Dominion and Michigan's Adventure and then Canada's Wonderland and Worlds of Fun :D Kings Dominion and Canada's Wonderland just ended those parks right there~
@@TonyKimtheamusementparkfan Leviathan will always be my personal favourite since it's the coaster that really got me into coasters, as it was the first coaster I truely obsessed over needing to ride. That said I don't think that match is a blowout. Youkon Striker is a weak third coaster but it is better than the Cedar Fair Morgan hypers with no airtime (when I went to WoF, my ride count- Prowler 30+, Patriot 12, Mamba 3. Tells you everything). Of the top 2s Prowler and Patriot are more well rounded but Leviathan and Behemoth are better than both.
@@urbex_coasters Good point~ Maybe it's because I'm an enthusiast that loves B&M dive coasters after riding Yukon Striker, so I think of that ride very highly. But I agree, Leviathan and Behemoth are just a crazy duo together, and it's hard to beat those. It's kinda hard to beat a B&M hyper and giga coaster.
You should also do brackets for Sea World parks and independent parks
Indiana Thrills Was thinking the same thing. Doing a Sea World bracket, then one with Dollywood, Silver Dollar City, Disney, etc., would be fun

I was a little surprised to see Worlds of Fun ranked a little higher than Dorney Park and Corkscrew ranked higher than Thunderhawk at Michigan's Adventure. I as even surprised a little bit with Crowinds ranked higher than Kings Island but I personally would've waited until Orion opened up before making this as this would've probably been a different outcome.
I hate SLC's, that had a lot to do with it.

I think that Shivering Timbers could beat out the GCIs ranked below Renegade (aka Prowler, Apocalypse, American Thunder, etc.) judging by its layout.
How could you ever say that the Beast was not a big 3 headliner for King’s Island? When you think King’s Island what are the first two things that come to mind. Mystic Timbers will never be even in the top 5 for the park’s lineup.
Is it even a matter of opinion on whether Beast is quality? It’s almost unspoken industry agreement. It deserves its following. I’m curious how this would change with Beast in that top 3.

Honestly thought that CGA was gonna beat Knott’s but I guess you valued hangtime and xcelerator a lot more than I thought you would. Unfortunate draw on the right half of the bracket as it’s so much tougher than the left half lol
Kings Island vs. Carowinds shoulda been Orion, Diamondback, Mystic Timbers vs. Fury 325, Intimidator, Copperhead Strike
No Orion cause we didn't count 2020 coasters. I originally slotted Intimidator in Carowinds' top three but removed it last second, just to shake things up a bit.

Me. Hate the vest restraints. I get suctioned in even more by the end of the ride. Older B&M restraints were better.

I think the only match-up that may have went the other way was the Knott's/CGA match-up. I agree that GhostRider is better than GoldStriker by a far margin, but I prefer Flight Deck over HangTime,. I think it is a real close match-up and by far the closest of the tournament. I think Carowinds beats King Island by a fair margin as I prefer Afterburn to Banshee and I think Mystic is a touch overrated. It is still a good GCI, but no where near the level of a GhostRider or GoldStriker.
Those matchups were both really close. Because of the way these tournaments are formatted, a lot of them could flip one way or another based on personal preferences.
Just letting anyone who wants to know, worlds of fun is currently running a new circuit on mamba, completely ridding the ride of the mid brakes, turning the floater to hardcore ejector.
Yes, Mamba is amazing now!
So far I’ve had a perfect bracket and here is what I predict for the rest
Cedar Point beats Kings Dominion
Final Four-Carowinds beats Knott’s Berry Farm and Cedar Points beats Canada’s Wonderland
And for the Finals I predict Cedar Point beating Carowinds
Went to King's Island in 2000 and I rode the now-defunct Son of Beast. Best wooden roller coaster I've ever been on, but too far ahead of it's time as it was eventually demolished due to constant malfunctions. It's too bad that they couldn't/didn't get RMC to save it the way they did Mean Streak at Cedar Point, which is now known as Steel Vengeance.

The Beast (besides at night) is pretty eh in my opinion.

Actually steel force is one of the better Morgan hypers in my very humble opinion and you actually can get air time on hydra because of the normal vest restraints. Ok basically I’m saying dorney I think has a stronger top 3 than worlds of fun
It was really close. I think if Dorney does end up getting that rumored Gravity Group coaster in 2021 their lineup becomes much better than WoF's.

Out of curiosity if Kings Island had Orian in play. What would it have replaced and would it be enough to beat Carowinds?

Tbh Ghost rider isn’t as good as people say it’s fun but it’s not amazing in my opinion
I love it... especially at night. So good.
It wouldn't have changed the results in the slightest, because it's MIA, but did you forget Thunderhawk? It is the only new coaster the park has gotten in the 21st century, so the fact that you think it's not top three in the park really surprises me. Especially in a park with only 5 or 6 "serious" coasters (mad mouse is debatable imo)

Steel force's midcourse doesn't hit that hard, at least it didnt when I rode it, and I get legit ejector in the second half of it. If you look at the povs for both steel force and mamba, its pretty clear that steel force goes significantly faster than mamba after the midcourse. Talon is really intense, and generally considered the best coaster in the park. Also, I generally hear people prefer talon over patriot but I'm not sure. I haven't ridden patriot so I can't really say anything about that. I will say that prowler does def look better than hydra, hydra isn't as good as it looks, but I do prefer it over bizzaro and dark knight, which are the other two floorlesses I've ridden.
Why did he not put The Beast in place of Mystic Timbers for Kings Isalnd? Both are top teir wooden coasters, but I know The Beast is better.

Fury beats all of them but the other 2 are just not on the same level as Diamondback Orion and mystic timbers

Dang Worlds of Fun against Canada's Wonderland :D I'm sorry Worlds of Fun, but when you're Canada's Wonderland that has three huge B&M coasters, and gets almost 4 million visitors a year, yeah..... RIP. Canada's Wonderland was destined to win against either Worlds of Fun or Dorney Park regardless ~ Their three B&Ms are some of the best coasters of their kind. If your top three are all B&M coasters, and huge models, that's a big RIP for any other smaller Cedar Fair park. Three B&Ms that are super high capacity for a park like Canada's Wonderland is perfect. Tbh I kinda laughed when they were matched together, cause Worlds of Fun would easily die in that matchup~

I agree with you that's my second favorite at the park. Don't think it would have made much of a difference though unfortunately.
I think that intimidator should be in front of copperhead strike. In my opinion copperhead strike doesn’t look to be that good.
A lot of people label Intimidator one of the weakest B&M hypers, so I thought putting Copperhead Strike which is a really unique coaster for the US and looks like a lot of fun, into the three slot would serve Carowinds better here.
