Oh wow! I wish I knew that Berenstein Bears Bear Country existed when I was a kid. I would've LOVED to go there. Those were my favorite books a kid and I used to watch the series on tv religiously❤❤❤ very informative video I LOVED it
Nicely done -- as someone from Northern Ohio who has visited Cedar Point regularly for almost 50 years, I must say, I miss the simpler days from the park. Too many family rides have been removed to make space for their many awesome coasters. Cedar Point needs to move parking to the other side of the causeway and use the current parking to actually expand the park. Not just for more coasters, but for more areas like this. Camp Snoopy is fine but it does lack the more gentle nature of the Berenstein Bear country. I wish it had still been around by the time my kids were old enough to experience it.
I grew up with Cedar point. It was my home park. This just brought back a flood of memories. I remember Bear country and remember when snoopy came. Awesome video!
@@ajzeg01 RARELY. It depends on the weather, how safe it is to go there at all, etc. It's like the tours at Chernobyl and the city of Pripyat...just replace the radiation with dangerous mountain scapes.
As someone who worked at Planet Snoopy in Dorney Park last year, I’m happy to see you finally acknowledge it. The history of the Bearenstain Bear Park was also something that had me curious ever since hearing about it being the replacement for Camp Snoopy.
Hey, this is the first I'm hearing about this! How cute! As a kid I LOVED the Berenstain Bears books we still have (and I always remembered Berenstain because I would sound it out and they were the STAIN Bears--my kindergarten teacher read it as Bernstein!) and my absolute favorite is the No More Junk Food. The pictures of the brightly colored candy, chips, popcorn, and soda, and then their trip to the grocery store to buy fruit and grains and Mama introduced Papa to the drink "called water". That one and the Too Much TV, that was a good one too:)
Cedar Point's Camp Snoopy is in a whole different part of the park. When they brought the Peanuts over to the park, they renamed the Bernstein Bear country to Peanuts Playground till that area was transformed into planet snoopy for the 2008 season. The indoor section was turned into part gift shop Snoopy's Boutique and part playground as well till about 2012 when they walled off the playground due to ADA compliance. Then it was completely taken out when the added Sweet Spot a huge confectionery gift shop; opened in the mid 2010s.
Oh no. I haven't been to Cedar Point since 2010 and that indoor part is the only thing I remember of the Berenstain Bears being there. It's a shame that's not open anymore.
I have a really, really early memory of going to a Berenstain Bears theme park and wandering into an empty-ish treehouse house. I remember seeing some areas walled off with plexiglass, and being very confused. I was convinced this was a dream I had, until I saw this video. The oldest I could have been is about 3 if it closed in 1998.
The children's museum that I work at in upstate NY (Strong Museum) has a Berenstain Bears exhibit that seems to basically be a scaled down version of the first Bear Country (now that I know that that was a thing)! They don't have the tree house, but they do have the Boys' and Girls' Clubs, Bear Family Restaurant, Papa's Workshop, Mama's Quilt Shop, a dentist office, and a farm! From what I can tell it's still one of the favorite exhibits in the museum even though it opened with the museum's last expansion in I *think* 2006? Outside the main exhibit they've got statues of the Bear family to take pictures with and a wall that has most (probably all the pre-2006) of the covers of the books on it. It's a pretty cool museum!
I really enjoy the mix of predominantly documentation and education and what I consider to be a lovely amount of sentimentality many of these videos have. thanks for making these
Thank you soooo much for doing more ceder point. I've spent so much of my life there. As a guest and a employee. The tree house that was there was my favorite as a kid
Growing up near Cedar Point I remember visiting Bear Country as a kid! I have not thought about it in decades though, so thank you for giving me a new sense of nostalgia! Always great to watch your video essays.
I really love the amount of detail in the narration. You even knew what happened during the opening ceremony of Bear Country! I will always appreciate the level of attention in Defunctland (also, I'm glad the trend of earthquake-themed darkrides hasn't died out yet).
Yay! Long time watcher of the show! I’m glad you did a spot on this. I fondly remember all of Bear country at Cedar Point! It was way more immersive than the peanuts area ever became. I remember begging my mom to play in the treehouse until late in the evening.
Kevin, is it possible to combine all the Jim Henson episodes into one? If someone already asked, my apologies. I love this quality content! Thank you very much for it! 😊
@@outsidercain3038 I just love the individual video's so much I know it would make one awesome full length documentary. Could you imagine the fluidity of it being combined. It would be like watching a beautiful full length feature film.
This video❤️ I was born in ‘91 and we took an extended family trip to Cedar Point every year. Everyone else went to the big rides and I hung with these bears. That spooky slide was my Everest as a child.
I vividly remember playing in the Berenstain Bear house and the dinosaur pit at Cedar Point. I was born in '94 so that must have been in '98. Great video as always!
I grew up 45 minutes from Cedar Point and spent sooooo much time in the Berenstein bears section of the park. I remember it had a very distinct smell (not bad just plasticy) and it all came flooding back watching this. I remember being so sad that they announced they were changing it to Camp Snoopy even though I was too old for it by then anyway… Thanks for the trip down memory lane ❤️
Someone found out the reason people remember -stein instead of -stain. There were a number of releases on home video that misspelled the name. So you probably saw the cartoon, where it was spelled wrong.
I live in the Cedar Point Area and I 100% remember this part of the park! The indoor play area was the best! Thanks for this video!! Totally just brought back such awesome childhood memories! I used to be so afraid of the Spooky Tree Slide 😂😂
As someone who is from the area, hearing a deep dive into something from Cedar Point is really cool. The park will always have a special place in my heart
I actually remember this. Grew up in Cleveland Ohio and visited Cedar Point once or twice a year. As a kid this was my absolute favorite part of the park. I had completely forgot this place existed. Thanks for some forgotten nostalgia.
TheVeeker there are several episodes of Defunctland without an Eisner reference. And all of DefunctTV except for two of the Henson episodes didn’t mention him at all.
Its gotta fit in the story. Unfortunately eisner had nothing to do with this(although it IS kind of surprising how much stuff he is connected with in terms of animation and amusement parks)
This was my favorite part of Cedar Point as a child! I loved running around Spook Hill. I was so sad when they expanded and got rid of that indoor section with Spook Hill.
Dude I definitely remember it being Berenstein. It freaked me out a bit when that shit came up because I was like 'i remember the show saying Berenstein for sure.'
@pomeygranates Well it was always pronounced Bernst-E-n so I think people just assumed it had an e. However, for anyone still wondering about the phenomena, I suggest looking up confabulation online.
I remember going to Berenstain Bears country in Dorney park when I was about 5 years old in 95 or 96. They were some of my favorite books. I remember the treehouse the most.
As someone in Kansas City, it's very surreal hearing you talk about WOF. The place is sort of run down, its dirty in all the buildings and most of the food sucks, but hey, at least the rides are still working. I love WOF but it feels like Cedar Fair doesn't care about it.
I've knew that I had a memory of the tree house just never could remember where it was I was like 5 or 6 when I went to cedar point. Great job love your vids want more on the ohio parks lots of history
I worked at Dorney Park the same year that Berenstain Bear Country opened there. I was 18 and worked in a different part of the park, so I never spent much time in it; but I did sweep the walkways in there one night when they were short-handed, and it turned out to be a great place to watch the fireworks. I really have no other memories of it, since non-employees weren't allowed to spend time there if they didn't have small children with them.
“We were somewhere around Bearstow on the edge of the forest when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive...." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bears, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to Los Osos”
I knew it was indoor when it opened! It’s not just some strange invented childhood memory! Thank you so much for covering this. It made me feel old but was a lovely hit of nostalgia.

Yay! My favorite thank you again for the Jim Henson doc! I have been sharing with my friends and family even if they don’t understand!
I shared every single one on Facebook and told everyone how much they *needed* to watch it, even if they didn't know it.
Kevin: “Can you milk a bear”
Defunctland Fun Fact: “Yes you can”
I wonder if bear milk will be sold in stores now
"You can milk anything with nipples."
@@Viking_Luchador but not men
@@beautifulnightmare7551 I was setting up a joke from Meet the Parents
"I have nipples, Greg. You wanna milk me?"
but actually, for guys that pump their bodies full of artificial testosterone, their bodies begin to naturally produce estrogen to counter balance it. In some extreme cases, the men do begin lactating.
I just wanna say that, if you absolutely need to milk a bear, please make sure the bear consents before hand and be respectful of their choice if they don't want to.
Dog cheese is getting bigger, I'd give it just a few more years and bear milk will be the bees knees
This made me remember things from my childhood that I had forgotten about. I knew I'd been to Cedar Point as a kid but had zero recollection of it until now. I remember the bear phones that told stories!
This was a _beary_ enjoyable episode, Kevin. Love the little bear fact annotations, and overall more comical tone of this video
Looking forward to more Defunctland, like always! :D
Oh wow! I wish I knew that Berenstein Bears Bear Country existed when I was a kid. I would've LOVED to go there. Those were my favorite books a kid and I used to watch the series on tv religiously❤❤❤ very informative video I LOVED it
Me too! I was so mad when Valleyfair finally got it and I was too old
Minutes too I had all the books and vhs
Nicely done -- as someone from Northern Ohio who has visited Cedar Point regularly for almost 50 years, I must say, I miss the simpler days from the park. Too many family rides have been removed to make space for their many awesome coasters. Cedar Point needs to move parking to the other side of the causeway and use the current parking to actually expand the park. Not just for more coasters, but for more areas like this. Camp Snoopy is fine but it does lack the more gentle nature of the Berenstein Bear country. I wish it had still been around by the time my kids were old enough to experience it.
I remember it and the 80s cartoon
I was 5 years old when they opened Bear Country in Cedar Point and it was my favorite part of the park. Thanks for the nostalgia trip.
Kevin, you're a natural storyteller. I'm so proud to have sponsored your project.
I grew up with Cedar point. It was my home park. This just brought back a flood of memories. I remember Bear country and remember when snoopy came. Awesome video!
Hey you should research the defunct theme park “The Land of Oz” in North Carolina
Isn’t it still open seasonally?
@@ajzeg01 RARELY. It depends on the weather, how safe it is to go there at all, etc.
It's like the tours at Chernobyl and the city of Pripyat...just replace the radiation with dangerous mountain scapes.
can we take a moment on Papa Bear in the clip where he was backing up to show the walkway was like a seesaw? I thought that was adorable x3
As someone who worked at Planet Snoopy in Dorney Park last year, I’m happy to see you finally acknowledge it. The history of the Bearenstain Bear Park was also something that had me curious ever since hearing about it being the replacement for Camp Snoopy.
Another amazing episode. Really loved the "Defunctland Bear Facts"!
Start of season 3? I’m excited!
THIS IS NOT OVER! BEARS!
It says this is a minisode. He's probably got bigger plans for Season 3. I cannot wait!
I love the Defunctland Bear Facts. So good.
Great bear facts Kevin, now I know that I can start my bear milk company
Bee Buzzly Also start a Bear Butter company. Just don’t call it ButterBear, because J.K. Rowling will sue you for being a BoneAppleTea.
Dosware Pictures thanks, I’ll keep that in mind
Thanks for making another Cedar Point-centric video. Every time you make one I get so excited. I love that park's history.
Cedar Point Beach Band!! They would always play while you waited for the Imax theater to open up. I visited that Berstain Bear land many times!
That was the only IMAX theater in Ohio at that time I bet.
I used to watch when I was young
I really enjoy the mix of predominantly documentation and education and what I consider to be a lovely amount of sentimentality many of these videos have. thanks for making these
I read all the books there were when I was a kid. I loved them.
I swear to the heavens above that it's Berenstein though.
Thank you soooo much for doing more ceder point. I've spent so much of my life there. As a guest and a employee. The tree house that was there was my favorite as a kid
what do you work there
Twelve minutes, several decades, and no Eisner. It's either a record or he's hiding in my closet.
Where's my baseball bat full of nails?
Growing up near Cedar Point I remember visiting Bear Country as a kid! I have not thought about it in decades though, so thank you for giving me a new sense of nostalgia! Always great to watch your video essays.
Thanks for adding 1440p resolution! I'm glad I can watch your future videos that way on my graphic design monitor
Thank you for using my footage of Cedar Point. I hope some of my family members don't mind seeing their younger selves on here :P
Thanks for putting it up and for putting us in the description!

why tho ?
@@outsidercain3038
I just love the individual video's so much I know it would make one awesome full length documentary.
Wow I had no idea Dr. Seuss was involved in publishing the Berenstain Bears
The company also published a Thomas The Tank Engine book, too
I vividly remember playing in the Berenstain Bear house and the dinosaur pit at Cedar Point.
Legit lost it at, “can you milk a bear?” 🤣
My brain still hears “STEIN” damn this parallel universe
Because you remember the truth.
Keep speaking the truth brother

@@wonderguardstalker It's in another world that we're right.
Kevin, your sarcasm and commentary is the actual best. This is and will always be my favorite series and you can't be replaced. Thank you for this
No Michael Eisner reference??? Who are you and what have you done with the real Kevin!
TheVeeker there are several episodes of Defunctland without an Eisner reference. And all of DefunctTV except for two of the Henson episodes didn’t mention him at all.

This was my favorite part of Cedar Point as a child! I loved running around Spook Hill. I was so sad when they expanded and got rid of that indoor section with Spook Hill.
Where are my parallel dimension hoppers who remember it was Berenstein Bears?
(seriously, I don't remember it at Berenstain Bears)
Berenstein. Without question.
Berenstein.
Dude I definitely remember it being Berenstein.
It freaked me out a bit when that shit came up because I was like 'i remember the show saying Berenstein for sure.'

Damnit, I thought this was the start of Season 3.
You guys deserve a tv show on theme parks and creator specific mini series like the Henson series
grea work!

I'm loving all of these amazing Bear Facts
I worked at Dorney Park the same year that Berenstain Bear Country opened there. I was 18 and worked in a different part of the park, so I never spent much time in it; but I did sweep the walkways in there one night when they were short-handed, and it turned out to be a great place to watch the fireworks. I really have no other memories of it, since non-employees weren't allowed to spend time there if they didn't have small children with them.
The Strong Museum in Rochester, New York has a Berenstain Bears exhibit. They call it "Down a Sunny Dirt Road".
"We can't stop here... this is Bear Country!"
“We were somewhere around Bearstow on the edge of the forest when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive...." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bears, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to
Los Osos”
I thought this was season 3 and almost had a heart attack.
I knew it was indoor when it opened! It’s not just some strange invented childhood memory!
Thank you so much for covering this. It made me feel old but was a lovely hit of nostalgia.
