      theblackmech yes that's a problem, but a problem before we even get to that is poor electricity storage from power companies. They're not lazy or anything it's just difficult to store a lot of electricity. That's why power companies often turn off solar panels because it's generating too much electricity when it's sunny.

    Some other major requirements for hydrogen fuel cell cars: the exterior must look weird, the interior must be tacky and cheap, and the gear lever must be unintuitive--a stupid gear shifter is critical. They must also cost slightly too much money for anyone not getting them on lease deals in California to consider buying. The car companies have a pretty tough job meeting all those requirements, so I can see why they're not widely popular.

    For those that are concerned about safety, Real Engineering did a video on the matter.
    *TL;DW:* Hydrogen is lighter than air so it can be purged in the event of a fire. Furthermore, it doesn't pool around the car like gasoline, should it ignite. Toyota tested their hydrogen tank with a .50 calibre round. Instead of exploding, the tank simply released the gas into the atmosphere.

    • @ColorHawk_
      @ColorHawk_ 5 лет назад +9

      Aero CX - Jet gasoline its self has a very high ignition temperature, the vapor is what ignites easy. It’s quite hard to actually get a fuel leak In a wreck in any modern car. Self sealing fuel tanks along with auto fuel shut off trap the gasoline within the fuel tank. Fires are quite uncommon in car crashes for the last 10-15 years. One thing Toyota keeps ignoring is how the safety systems work in a crash, not just a puncture. You can shoot a propane tank and it wouldn’t explode either, it’s way to rich to ignite from the inside and explode. Problem comes when the hydrogen starts venting around hot metals and other workings of the car. One property of hydrogen that gasoline vapors don’t have it that hydrogen even if the gas is extremely dispersed in the air can still ignite at a very low temperature. Both have advantages and disadvantages but hydrogen cars aren’t a “no risk” vehicle by any means

    • @Mutantcy1992
      @Mutantcy1992 5 лет назад +6

      Ah, good, I was very concerned about getting shot with a sniper rifle while driving on the freeway.
      No, I'd obviously be concerned about crashing into a gasoline-powered car, leading to all the problems you mentioned that hydrogen doesn't have still happening, only adding a pressurized tank of H2 to the gasoline fire. But good to know I can drive the thing in a war zone. They should fire a tracer round next time.

    It might make sense to use electricity to make hydrogen to make electricity depending on where you got it. Hydrogen then becomes the 'storage medium' for the energy. If the first electricity is from solar etc. that is a great system. Like solar energy->grass->cows->sweet, sweet steaks. Steak as a storage medium.

There are two types: liquid storage, and compressed gas storage. liquid storage being the more space efficient method, though it it needs to be cooled a lot since H2 is a gas at room temp. and comp. gas storage is not space efficient, thus mostly used by buses

      There is, for years and years there has been vehicles made that are on par with gasoline vehicles and performance. I figure they don't develop into it because it would make the billions and billions of dollars that went into EV the useless waste that it is. We have the tech for it, we just need the time and money to make use of it. Everyone bitches about how expensive it is. Well yes, everything is fucking expensive in its infancy. I mean look at EV, the investors involved just to get their tech off the ground, billionaires with nearly unlimited resources. If hydrogen had the same thing it would be better then the battery and I'd be still using NiCads in my RC cars today. One thing for sure, Hydrogen puts people in space and will eventually drive everything else before fusion and very high solar efficiency in the far future.

    • @ColorHawk_

      Broken Platinum Studios you can use hydrogen enriched gasoline but the ignition temperature of raw hydrogen is low to maintain a proper rhythm cycle. The hydrogen would ignite the instant it was introduced into the cylinder unless it’s mixed with something with a higher ignition temperature.

    • @CanadaBud23
      @CanadaBud23 5 лет назад

      They have them working pretty well, even years ago. The problem is storage on the vehicle, turns out you need quite a bit of it to get any decent range out of it (think early EV). In those years they were a little bit impractical with big storage tanks. These days we are getting better an better and smaller too. Jesse James did one and it sounds great in a 572 BB Chev and BMW did one as well, both 200mph capable. We can get full water conversion in about the size of a large air conditioner. So unless you don't mind driving around in a E350 or chev commercial van then you can practically run one one the road. Filling the tank with water only.

    If someone did not understand, hydrogen comes inside from one side and oxygen from the other. The hydrogen with it's electron wants to bond with oxygen and the only thing separating these two is the PEM. The PEM ensures that the hydrogen goes through and not the electron. So the electron is forced to go through an external circuit. It goes from the negative pole to the positive. Negative pole is on the side where the hydrogen comes from and the positive side is where the hydrogen and oxygen bond. When its has passed through this circuit it is reunited with the hydrogen and oxygen. Thus the emission will be pure drinkable water.

    "We can use the sun". Yeah, very true. We can use 1/3rd less of the sun to charge a battery electric to go the same distance it would need to make enough hydrogen to drive a car as far.

    im glad you guys made this i was hoping you would i think these are the thing of the future battery-powered cars will be temp I believe, simply due to as Bart said long charge times and yes they can be recycled but that doesn't remove the fact what is in batteries is not good for the environment regardless and people crash cant recycle it al now can you
