*This week marked the 10 year anniversary of Mazda's board cancelling the RX brand and further development of Wankel engines.*
*The RX brand's bad reputation for unreliability and poor fuel economy saw sales in a steady decline as far back as 1986 with the last two RX model suffering a net loss for the company... it is estimated that the RX-8 lost nearly $3 billion dollars in development, production and warranty costs that bankrupted the company for the third time in its history.*
*As part of the government bailout loan deal Mazda agreed to cancel development of the unprofitable Wankel engine and drop the failing RX brand.*
@Bill Luo *While it is a common urban myth that the RX-8 was canceled because of emissions, this is simply not true.. The RX-8 continued to pass the world's toughest emissions standards (EPA Tier2 Bin5 **_AND_** the strict California CARB ULEV II right up until lack of sales ended production.*
*Sales of the RX-8 were so low in Europe there was simply no reason to justify re-certifying the RX-8 to meet the Euro5 emissions standards as they would never sell enough units to recoup the costs incurred.*

Ya. He quit tofu delivery (thus erasing all touge skillz) and became a doctor (idfk how) , bought a 911, tuned it, met this guy named Akio Asakura, got into a relationship with his sister (Eriko) , saw Akio die, saw this new Akio in old Akio's Z, see new Akio crash multiple times (without dying) , and eventually lose to him. Takumi's life has definitely gone downhill, if you know what I mean.
Red Valkyrie Haven't watch Wangan Midnight, and I personally prefer skills and techniques rather than raw power.
But I heard of a tale of the crazed driver of the mountain passes. The tales tells that he can drift with his eyes closed. There's even rumor of him lighting a cigar while doing so. He runs a tofu shop, and people said he looks just like a normal middle-aged guy.
I've heard that story many times. And for some reason, whenever it gets to the point of him lighting his cigarette, an odd piece if music begins playing. At first it sounds all silly and fun, but then it suddenly turns all serious. And just as the verse is about to kick in, you can here a different middle-aged man, possibly a friend of the crazed driver, shout at the top of his lungs for someone to save him. And then all sounds are cut, replaced by the clear sound of tires screeching. Gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it.

Felix Wankel’s engine was conceived during a dream. In it, 17-year-old Felix was driving his car to a concert. When he arrived, he bragged to his friends that his car used a new type of engine - half turbine, half reciprocating. “It is my invention!” he told his friends. Upon waking up, Wankel became dedicated to building his engine. Though he never received a formal degree (or a driver’s license), Wankel was a gifted engineer.

@@doktorbimmer The uk government are being forced to ban or limit diesel cars by 2040. They are giving off high amounts of carcinogenic pollution and are credited for a large rise in cancerous deaths. A lot of the diesel emission testing didn't apply to real world situations while many were falsified. In other words 95% of diesel cars are marginally better for us than petrol if at all, some diesels are worse. DPF filters (that limit the cancerous fumes) are also a very big grey area in effectiveness. Many people have them removed as they block up easily and are costly to replace. Also very conflicting evidence in how well they actually filter while working on top of the added pollution they take to make. Also much pollution is added because some people are forced to ''drive on the motorway to clean the filter''. If they don't do that a warning light puts cars into limp mode. Sellers of such cars do not tell people that diesels are very bad to be used as anything but long distance vehicles. Car makers want sales, telling people a car that is bad in short journeys is not good business for them so they don't say it.

The story I've heard about rotaries was a guy who put one in an airplane, a small sporty two-seater, probably Vans RV-8. From what I heard performance was excellent, but reliability, well, wasn't. He became famous for putting the thing down in a cornfield almost routinely. Simplicity can help reliability, but simpler doesn't always mean more reliable. I heard another person once talking about how if rotaries had been given the same amount of effort through history as regular piston engines they'd probably be the dominant engine type now, an interesting thought to consider.
I saw one in a Van's RV-4 at an airshow in the late 90's. Dunno how well it held up. What scared me more was the RV-6 with a Subaru engine in it that was next to it.
