    Thanks for watching! Two Questions:
    1. What collecting persona are you most like?
    2. What would be your choice for a $1,000 Watch Collection?
Quick corrections with the khaki pilot pioneer, it has a mineral crystal and the Damasko lug-to-lug is 46 mm not 41.

      1. PERSONA 1 - I have to have one of each "style". Different straps and bracelets could essentially double your collection as well.
      2. Starking AM0184 (high beat) dress watch, Seiko 5 sport (snzg11J1) everyday field watch, and finally Bulova lunar pilot chrono. That's definitely way under the budget so now I can pick up some nice straps to switch it up.
      Great video, thanks!

So my picks are: 1) Lorier Neptune + Junghans Max Bill Handwound or 2) G-SHOCK GM-5600-1er + Hamilton Boulton Mechanical

    • @DutchBulldog

Great choices! If you can stretch the budget a bit: get the Baltic Aquascaphe (blue gilt) instead of the Lorier Neptune. The Junghans Max Bill 34mm handwind is an awesome choice! I am seriously considering buying the Max Bill in December (after graduating my master’s degree).

First off, congratulations on the 200k milestone and for the amount of effort that went into this list. You've really stepped up the production value and it shows. I'd see myself as a persona 1, I like variety as I select watches on mood or what task I'm doing. I think one watch that would have fit for the "one watch collection" option would be the Christopher Ward C60 Trident. The 42mm version with the white dial is really versatile, as the generally clean aesthetic and applied indices make it a really nice option as a dress diver, and it's also a very capable as an actual diver with 600 meters of water resistance (although, granted, it's not ISO certified).
Also, the Helm Vanuatu would fit quite well in the "diver fanatic" category. It has a great brutalist tool aesthetic similar to the Sinn U1 and is ISO certified.

I fall under the quartz lover category, I own an SNE398 as my dressier option, and an SKA791 for my everyday option. This covers alot of bases already, perhaps looking for something to add as a beater watch for when I know I need something rugged. Probably going to go for some sort of digital watch. You hit the nail on the head with the oceanus S100, I've loved the look of that watch for quite some time. It would be a very worthy watch for a one watch collection.

If I had to put together a three watch collection, I would structure my budget, based on lifestyle, like this: field watch (40%), dive watch (40%), dress watch (20%). I think another good approach is identify watches, that you like, which might fit more than one occasion. Of course swapping out straps helps with that.

I laughed at how many of the 'personas' I fit into!! Of course, Producer Michael's videos are wonderful escapism, but this is rock-solid practical advice in an overwhelming choice of watches. THANKS.
And it's re-assuring to see that my old collection matches some of your intentions (though not the actual watches), I do have and love my Casio World-time! Since my old collection was 'check off boxes'/'hipster' for a sub-$150 (yes - that CHEAP, with some really obscure Chinese oddities from the deepest bowels of Amazon), I'm looking to upgrade the old collection, and here I go...

Terrific review. I liked the different Orient watches. I viewed thus review earlier this past week. Honestly, I had no idea of the various watches Orient manufacturered. There was also the many Seiko watches you put in the various classifications. There are brands I never heard of, but made notes on. Over-all a terrific presentation of many quality watches of affordable pricing. Great review, very, very interesting.

I tried this and personally, I felt saving up for the watch that YOU WANT is more important than having 2-3 watches for the sake of different events. Basically, get a 'substantial' watch that can be dressed up or down and save up for the next one. The wait for the watch you worked hard for will be more rewarding than getting 2 or more sub-par watches limited to a budget! Then again, to each his/her own :)

I agree with this 100 for myself now as a collector. But I know many like the variety that comes with watches and want as many as they can. I do find many adopting this philosophy over time though. Thanks for watching!

I see your point AND realizing which watch you truly want to save for is, at least for me, developed by experience with different timepieces. This content offers a way for people of different budgets to be exposed to more watches and start to make purchasing decisions that will lead them down their own path. I love that this channel includes appreciation for watches in many price brackets, making this hobby relevant to more people.

True but sometimes you need to try a few watches before you realize what it is you're really looking for, all part of the journey. Nothing worse than saving for months then realizing the watch isn't really what you'd thought it would be.

Until yesterday I was a one watch guy, a Longines master collection chronograph, wedding present from my wife in 2009, the only time it comes off my wrist is when I’m in the shower or swimming, it’s been camping all over the world, Ive hiked in it, played sport in it, fixed my car wearing it, it’s stood up really well to all that, still looks amazing, keeps fantastic time. Watches that you don’t expect to be robust may surprise you.

I think I just about have mine now 🤔😊
    - Certina DS Action Precidrive (Moderately sized high accuracy quartz on a great bracelet. Checks all the boxes. Somewhat dissapointing lume compared to Japanese divers though.)
    - Seiko Monster SRPD27 (Automatic diver on a zulu/perlon strap, fantastic lume, and has a more unique design than the Certina.)
    - Casio G-Shock GW-M5610 (Radio controlled solar digital watch. For when an automatic mov't (relatively fragile and unaccurate) or steel bracelet (getting scratched) isn't suitable.)
If I were to have a one watch collection, the Citizen Ray Mears (or rather one of the modern/new versions of it, like the PMD56-2951 or Montbell) would be the closest to those three in one piece I think.

I guess I belong to the first category, around 50 watches. The three dressings I use the most are a mille miglia chopard from the Elton John's series(green dial),a baume mercier capeland 1000m(yellow dial) and Marathon SAR automatic on a camo strap. My casuals that I use to wear are gshock speedpass,5600bb military version,5600 carbon fiber,a citizen super tough GMT titanium from 2001 and a citizen 4x4 duratect titanium. These days I've bought a citizen bj7111 super titanium which I often wear. The conclusion is ,that after 25 years of watch collecting, there is always something new attracting my attention...Its never ending...

hi teddy, I love your videos but you touched on something today that I'd love to hear more about. And that is the accuracy of watches. And I know they very quite a bit depending on the movement but really what are the most accurate watches out there for each type of movement and maybe price range. I came into a very expensive watch as a gift that was about $5,400 and it keeps the worst time of any watch I own. So I know it's not based on price but maybe you could talk in a video about accuracy a little bit since that's important to a lot of watch owners.

If I had only $1000, this is what I'd buy:
$300 - Hamilton Khaki Field 38mm manual wind. Timeless looks. Movement has a long 80 hour power reserve and accuracy an automatic Seiko at this price will never have out of the box.
$400 - Tissot Heritage Visodate black dial. Looks better than the massively overrated Seiko SARB and its lookalikes. Far better movement too, not just in performance, but in terms of decoration as well which you can appreciate from its caseback, unlike the dready looking 6R15.
$300 - Seiko Spirit Perpetual Solar SBPJ003. The V198 quartz movement on this is a treat. Complications galore! It has solar charging, smooth-sweep 24 hour chronograph, dual time, alarm function, power reserve indicator, and a perpetual calendar. Just set the date once and it'll be like that forever. Also, it's super accurate. The blue dial on this thing is amazing btw.
