I think he sings “No, I don’t want to fall in love” the first couple of times, but later it switches to "No, I want to fall in love.” Emotions are often contradictory, and hence the ambiguity of the lyrics. The video is one also of the sexiest music videos ever.
The lead guitarist in question is the late great James Calvin Wilsey who was an original member of Chris Isaak's backing band Silvertone and a seminal, influential guitarist in his own right. The guitar tones of James and the voice of Chris are a perfect marriage on so many great Chris Isaak songs, like this one. As always, loved your reaction.
“Nobody loves no one” actually means everybody has to love someone. So glad you did this song. We think we have control but under the right circumstances our billion year old lizard brain overpowers our intellect with ease.
❤ I've loved Chris Isaak, this hauntingly beautiful song AND the steamy video since 1989! It's definitely one of the most amazing songs EVER! Thank you! 🔥
Very simple song and simple lyrics as well...the power in this is not the lyrics,or the complexity of the song and arrangement, not at all,but with the atmosphere and the voice quaility, the captivating soft guitar sound together with the voice makes it a very romantic, soft, captivating song.
I'm. 53 year old Canadian who plays some guitar and sings, but more of a music lover. I really enjoy listening to your reviews without the interruptions during the songs. I'll also send a few recommendations along. Keep up the good work. :)
You are correct. He keeps on singing "I DON'T want to fall in love with you." Because he realizes she's bad news for him, but he can't fight his feelings of love. Sad and melancholic song. Musically, I always consider(ed) Chris Isaak the true son of Roy Orbison ("The Big O"). The instrumental version of this song can be heard in the movie 'Wild At Heart' of David Lynch. Mind you, Chris Isaak was also an actor: a.o. in 'Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me' (directed by David Lynch again) and the famous 'The Silence Of The Lambs' (dir. by Jonathan Demme).
Love this reaction to a great old song. (I say "old" because I saw Chris Isaak preform this song on tour when I was in college) As to the title "Wicked Game", it fits for me because I've never taken the primary definition of 'wicked' as meaning "evil", but the secondary (or tertiary?) definition of 'wicked" as meaning "disposed to or marked by mischief." I don't mean to imply a language barrier is at fault because you both speak English beautifully, and with adorable accents. However, it might be an cultural difference or misunderstanding. (?) Partly because culture changes rapidly through time, and not least because English is a crazy language. More importantly, you both clearly understand that some things are eternal, and cross through every culture. (Love. Loss. Longing. "Mischief." Evil... etc.)
Lol...there's not one woman on earth that doesn't dig a "crooner." Or, a man that can't stand em because most of us sound like a cat when it's tail get's stepped on because we can't sing worth a damn, lol.
i like the song jump rope, by blue october, (i saw that you reacted to one of their songs before, but i havent seen it yet, so i dont know if you liked it)
This just might be my mind making sense of the lyrics, but I always thought the lyrics were "I don't want to fall in lust. No, I want to fall in love, with you."
They never dated. But I think i Remember him saying, perhaps a bit tongue-in-cheek, that having her all over him for the shoots, only to more or less ignore him between takes, was sending his brain some mixed messages. She did date and live with Michael Hutchinson, the INXS singer, for a few years, on and off.

Can't go wrong with Chris Isaak. He is great. Such a sexy voice.

❤️
I'm bummed that the lyrics were wrong. He sings, I don't want to fall in love , not I want to fall in love.
watch the live videos instead of this lyric video.
All the guys just hope their girl don't meet Chris in person
