The song is about unrequited love and “the wicked game” is how the woman plays with his affections and then says “she doesn’t feel the same”… Helena Christensen is the super model in the video and they recorded that video in freezing weather! 🥶 So glad you watched the video for this reaction because it truly depicts a clear picture of her games and his obsession with her! ✌🏼❤️
I wanna say I saw an interview from Chris back in the day and asked about the girl in the video, he was like... yeah, the moment the cameras were off, she was totally bored and ready to leave. She was all in that character for this song.
Also, rumors said they hated each other and that was not the case. They have only said good things and he even shielded her from the cameras when topless off camera.
She had also just gottrn off the airplane in just 2 hours without rest and she shot the video without preparation. Dhe had flown directly from New York yo Hawaii, that's like a 16 hours flight, yet she was a complete professional and looked like that!

Chris said in interview that the song was written at 3 in the morning about the toxic relationship he was in. For the video; Helena was so great, she gave full professionalism while in freezing weather. She did say that she thought the song was beautiful and enjoyed Chris' singing.

He’s well known for his slow drip reverb surfer tone. He & Chris had a falling out & he was replaced.

It is possible because in the video we do not see any musicians but when they perform live Chris Isaak himself plays the notes on his guitar with the exact same notes. He is a skilled guitarist.
What I like about Chris issak is he’s kind of a throwback to the older romantic kind of singers. I always got a 50s ish kind of vibe off his style of music and even his sense of style too. Almost reminds me of a Roy Orbison type of singer. Which of course those type singers much like Conway Twitty is they only come along once in a generation.
The music video to this is EVERYTHING. This is how we all grew to love the song, Chris, Helena Christensen and Herb Ritts. 😁❤️
This video was in nonstop rotation when it came out. Helena Christensen rolling in the surf with Isaak to this tune just always stopped you in your tracks. On another note and years later, Showtime had a series called The Chris Isaak Show which was kind of a fictional sitcom about Chris Isaak touring with his band. Some real band members and some actors. It was really quite funny and good if you ever have a chance to see it! You'd be shocked at Chris' acting skills.
I'm guessing a 're-enactment' of this video will be in the cards for you two this evening!! Maybe BJ can sing as sweet as Chris Isaak?

I love Chris Isaak. You should really do Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing. It has a totally different sound from this, but a great sound nonetheless. Also, his version of the Roy Orbison classic Only the Lonely, which is stunning.

WOW. I've heard this song live twice, repeatedly on a cassette tape, covers from various artists, famous and not. This is one of my favorite songs when I'm in that mellow melancholy mood. Mostly, I fell in love his voice and the steel guitar.

I think it's an electric guitar with reverb/delay and he's using the vibrato bar to mimic the steel sound
@@michaeljorfi2394 Exactly. It's a regular Fender Stratocaster electric guitar with lots of reverb and some very tasty note bending with the vibrato bar. Which for some reason, Fender always called the "tremelo" bar. I don't know if they ever corrected that.

I might have missed some greats in concert but I can proudly say I got to see Chris Isaak live for a Christmas show with my daughter and it was an AMAZING show! He is so funny and entertaining - he has a great library of songs and IMO last of the "crooners" but I'm thankful for his music!

I may have more Chris Isaak CDs than any other artist, he's sort of a blend of Elvis and Roy Orbison. I can put any of his CDs on and just play them it's only a rare one I may skip. Some just off the top of my head, "For ever blue", "Blue Spanish sky", "Don't make me Dream about you", "Somebodys crying"

Ok... when he started this song.. he came off stage.. stood like 4 ft.. in front of me.. The white hot spot light was on me.. and him... I freaking melted..... my boyfriend had to hold me up.. Chris Isaak is such an under rated guitarist singer songwriter. He has blues, rockabilly and such an incredible range in his voice so much like Elvis Presley very powerful but so calming in it's just takes you to a place on the beach in a hammock with the woman you're in love with and a couple of drinks watching the sun sink.

Chris wrote this song as a response to a phone call he received from a girl who wanted to come over to his place for a fling. He told her no but she was insisting and went to his place anyway.
This was filmed on a black sand beach on the Big island of Hawaii. I lived on the island when they were there. That beach was later covered by lava and is no longer there.
Guys, read the lyrics. "This girl is only gonna break your heart". In video she is usually looking away as if something off screen is better. "No one loves no one," is NOT a romantic lyric to end on.
