    This is still a great budget meal plan. I priced these ingredients up at my local Aldi and getting 5kg of potatoes instead of 3, this came to just under $60. Still fantastic even with higher prices. Thank you Emily! I will be making this meal plan this week

      Important to remember that spending a lot on groceries can be a cultural thing as well. My Asian neighbours spend an enormous amount on food as they have family dinners often and skip lunch. If you cultural food requires a lot of meat, fish, etc ... it adds up.

    Fabulous video , just made Mexican bowls … with hamburger Pattie’s cooked and minced up , a packet cooked rice , all the salads , a cooked corn pea sour cream bake and a Mac and cheese with heaps of left over frozen cheese from the freezer left over bread as the bread crumb . You can make some incredible food with left overs things from the freezers and buying smart . My food shop is $600 a month and includes petrol . And we make it work . We only shop every fortnight and I meal prep for the month . The kids laugh when we have run out of certain things . They really appreciate it when it comes back into the house . And that’s been fantastic to watch them adjust to life . Have a lovely day xx

Freeze leftover vegetables that won’t fit into the pot and freeze leftover meals . Harder as we get older and have health issues and I’d like to see videos on cooking and saving for two. We have to return to basics and cooking like our mothers cooked. I find vegetarian meals cheaper .

    Where is the fruit? It is recommended that we have 3 servings a day. Vitamin c is so importment. Red capsicum hs more vitamin c than oranges. Can always buy oranges by the bag. I would see what fruit is on special.Coles has tins of peaches or pink lady apple for 2 dollars each. The latter is chock full of apple and could be made in a simple dessert with custard or cream.

    OK fair enough that you can use items like herbs, salt and pepper etc and maybe oil from the pantry and not count those in your budget - they are minimal items that last for months, but I don't think it's accurate to use larger items like Gravy, Oyster sauce, Soy Sauce, honey, noodles! etc. They all cost quite a bit and you use quite a bit of them in meals so they need to be bought regularily, so they should be included in your budget. Also you have 1.3kg of chicken for 5 chicken meals. That calculates to under 300g chicken per meal. There's no way that's enough chicken for 4 people for 5 dinners. I usually use about 400g per meal for 4 (granted the fried rice & baked potatoes you could use a bit less but still not enough for 4 people)

    • @AussieDebtFreeGirl
      @AussieDebtFreeGirl  Год назад +2

      Didnt use any additional noodles in this. I dont remember doing any recipes with oyster sause either, but i personally disagree on soy sause etc because again thise are once every 6- 12 month purchases.

    • @angelawossname
      @angelawossname Год назад +1

      Most Australians eat 2 - 3 times more meat than they actually need. 300g is more than enough for 4 people, BUT you have to replace some of that meat with a plant based protien, and extra veg, not extra carbs. Potatoes don't count as veg! The lack of veggies in these meals with all those excessive carbs would leave me feeling bloated and sluggish all week! I actually thought when she said "gravy" that I have none in my house right now. I agree that it's something you have to replace fairly frequently.

    • @Caroline.123
      @Caroline.123 Год назад

      @@angelawossname Potatoes do count as veg alot of complex minerals and vitamins in the humble potato. Also plant based protein is soy and as plants real green veg do not have protein. You should not encourage people to eat soy.

    • @angelawossname
      @angelawossname Год назад

      @Caroline.123 you are being pedantic, potatoes may be technically a vegetable but are incredibly high in starch, so as far as ratios go, potatoes should count towards your carbs, not your veg. Beans and lentils and nuts and seeds are all plant based protein. Not just soy, and there is nothing wrong with soy, that's a myth. Sorry but I'm not going to trust someone who thinks soy is the only plant based protein lol.

    Amazing! Only 1.78AUD average per serving, no doubt super delicious and healthy. Makes me wonder why families spend upwards of 30-40 on fast food every night and claim groceries are too expensive! Obviously, there's a time commitment to cooking and it's not for everyone but the quality and value you get just doesn't seem to compare to a home-cooked meal.

    Hey! Just a suggestion… I recently found Macquarie bank has a marketplace where you can buy gift cards for discounted rates… e.g the Woolies ones are 4% off. I’ve saved $100 already by buying a gift card each time (or each fortnight to the value of my grocery budget)
    They have rewards points on their credit card too which you can convert to gift cards, which I don’t do but simply getting 4% off anything I buy is awesome!
