About me:
I'm Emily!
I'm an Australian Frugal Living mother of three, based in Brisbane.
I'm all about frugal living, saving money, and side hustles.

Brilliant idea for helping hubby with meal boxes. In general don't get too discouraged an old proverb helped me cope when I thought we might be homeless "never be anxious about the next day, for the next day will have its own anxieties. Each day has enough of its own troubles." I worried for ages in the end when I put my mind on helping others and left it in God's hands we got a place we could afford. Things are still difficult but we are ok
I am glad you are safe and housed
Thanks for sharing your update and showing us how you are facing the challenges head on. I think a lot of us are so scared we have our heads partially in the sand. But you are proactive and brave, it’s bloody inspiring.
Aww, thank you, it's very sweet of you to say. I have to make a plan and keep pushing through. There is nothing else to do. I want my kids to be happy, safe and healthy
I am a bit of a newspaper addict and for anyone who loves their newspapers and magazines 99% of libraries must have today's newspaper ( 1 of each type), all the latest gossip, money, camping magazines. The most recent edition can only be read in the library but you can loan any previous addition.......and their is computers everywhere that are free to use but I think there is a booking service.
Nice work
Appreciate your honesty. Life is tough. Grocery shopping is one of my biggest costs. I have a lactose free daughter and one that has major issues with textures. I'm currently fighting to have my 17 year old daughter to have an autism assessment. Well I've been fighting for 17 years. It's a long expensive process and being a single mum it's tough. I don't get payed child support and both of my girls are homeschooled. Electricity, gas and internet I make weekly payments on so by the time a bill comes I'm usually in credit, so that's one thing I don't have to stress about. I have started growing my own veggies and making bread from scratch. I also meal plan, but it's still tough. But I am enjoying watching my veggie patch start to take shape, so I'm hoping that will help ease the cost a little bit.
I hope your garden grows well.
Just found your video. You are an amazing young woman. You should be very proud of yourself. A message to everyone regarding electricity bills, make sure the meter is actually being read and not an estimate. Stumbled across this when I was paying a bill for my elderly father. They stated on the bill they could not access the meter because of the dog. My father has not owned a dog for nearly 15 years.
Also with the cost of food, I’m fortunate I live in a rural area and have started to access eggs, vegetables and meat straight from the farmers gate. Also local markets. I’ve also set up garden beds and growing some of my own. I have lemons, limes, mandarin, and an orange trees now planted.
All the best to everyone🙏
That's great advice
Thank you for sharing. Times are definitely getting tougher!
When you're going through a tough time, you just need to keep going. This situation won't last forever. I think you are amazing and an inspiration to other families doing it tough.
Thank you, lovely. Got to keep pushing nothing else to do
Emily - I have followed you for a few years now and right now I just want to jump through the screen and give the biggest hug right now ❤ Things are so tough & you truly are doing amazing!
Your honestly about your situation I know will be helping so many going through the same thing but not speaking about it. You are providing a voice & support to these people by sharing your story.
You have always been an amazing cook but you mentioned preserving foods and I thought Nyssa at my small footprint here on RUclips could give you some inspiration. She lives off grid with her husband and 6 kids and only does a grocery shop every 6 weeks when she come to Brisbane. She also does community hampers between.
I’m so hope that things start turning around for your family soon ❤
I so appreciate it
You ate doing a fantastic job working hard to keep your family feed. Real life is tough you are brave for sharing your family’s challenges.
Your videos are great keep smashing them out.
Thank you I really appreciate it.
Thank you for sharing.
You are 🙏 welcome
I really appreciate your videos it’s helpful seeing how you break everything down and organise the chaos. I really hope this month is better for you than last month 🤞🏻
Haha that is my motto. Organised chaos
Great video Emily. That helped me evaluate the budget etc. Your an inspiration and have helped so much with your videos. The food bill is ridiculous and my oldest child starts high school next year. So new uniform and the school fees will be alot so need to start saving.
Definitely. I am looking at my kids' school shoes and broken backpacks and trying to work out how I am going to afford to replace them.
It's definitely getting to be difficult. I'm in Canada and we're facing the same challenges around food prices; we're coping but we're not saving much at the moment, which makes me a bit anxious but it can't be helped. You're doing so well, though! You're half my age and you're tackling this so sensibly. It's inspiring.
Oh that is very sweet of you to say. I hope you find some killer deals
Thankyou for sharing
Thank you for watching it, really helps
Your doing great xx
Thank you you are so sweet. On to month 2 at $300/ month this month is going to be harder as I start to run out or meat and need to go shopping
Thanks for your update. I’m really hoping the algorithm picks you up and you get famous on RUclips. I retired last year and started to get a house moved to One of the islands in Morton Bay. I saw this as a cheaper alternative to house ownership. There have lots of ups and downs in this journey but with the building material and labour prices I ran out of money and my house is basically at lockup. I can’t live in it SO I have gone back to work and I am house sitting. I have a home base between my children’s houses if I’m not sitting a house. I can save more money by not renting. I don’t think this would work for you but life sure is an adventure!
It certainly is one long and weird adventure
I'm so sorry you are going through this. I hope you get some help soon.
Ne too, it really wears you down
Saving lives 😊
You are very sweet
Thanks
Thank you. I appreciated you
Thanks! a little help
Thank you. That is incredibly sweet of you. I appreciate it so much

Have you been able to ask your electricity bill provider if they have a discount for a health card at all? Or any local charity places that may help pay towards it?
You are doing an amazing job and very inspiring and thank you for sharing your experience with us all.
We don't have a healthcare card, we are fighting with centerlink using basic rights qld to try and get one. We get zero help. If what you have is rare, you have to fight a war to get any help
@@AussieDebtFreeGirl omg 😲 that's horrible hun, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm in NSW, so I know healthcare is different state by state.
Hopefully they come to the party for you soon xx
Thanks for the update Emily. Hang in there! Have you looked into receiving carer payment and/or allowance for your child with a disability? All the best.
I have applied and begged we've had to get state members involved to fight centerlink for us. We were litterally told his he had mild adhd we would have it. But his rare disability we have to fight for because it's not on there approved list. (It's rare remember?) It's ridiculous
@@AussieDebtFreeGirl so sad the way we are all supposed to fit neatly into a box to receive much needed support. :(
Can you pay weekly for your electric? Almost make sure you read your own meter. I found out my provider was giving me an average based off last year’s usage.
I moved to 3 months to go with a new provider and get cash back for groceries and to buy us more time, as we are overwhelmed with the court costs
Do you have NDIS for your son for the OT ? You should be able to get it for him .? Good luck
Still fighting for NDIS carrers qld is trying to help as well as the state member
Which gets you funds more quickly? ‘super thanks’ or ‘buy me a tea’?
Buy me a tea. Supers come through in the next month with adsense.
It sucks that something like legal costs can derail you financially so quickly. It sounds like you have a good plan in place which is all you can do until the next hurdle. 😊
They are ridiculous but unavailable unfortunately
😊👋
Hi Sarah!
I'm not sure of the school situation with your disabled son but if he goes to a special school you might qualify for the government fuel subsidy for driving him there.
He goes to a normal school. Special schools in Queensland are for intellectual disabilities
How can people help you?
Watching the videos and ads. Liking the videos etc. If you want to help in a more direct way there is also buy me a coffee.
