    At the end I think Jess definitely deserves better. He's really good for Rory and has been the voice of reason in her life, but at the end he's way more mature than her. In season 2 and 3, Jess is the immature one, but he got he's life together and work hard to achieve his goals, if someone is better than the other it's definitely Jess.

    My main problem is that Dean was good to begin with. Like in season 1 and 2, he was a pretty good boyfriend. He cared about her, he respected her interests, he was nice to her mom. Then, I guess the writers got bored and COMPLETELY wrecked his character so that Rory could be with Jess.
    My personal ranking is
    1. Dean 1 (before they destroyed him)
    2. Jess
    3. Marty
    4. Logan
    5. Dean 2 after they wrecked him
    6. Tristan
    7. Paul

      Yeah, it was pretty obvious they wanted to make space for Jess. Dean got her references and said one of the reasons he liked her was because she was reading and completely concentrated on it. It was clear from the beginning that Dean was true working class and that that's a difference between them, but I felt like he was a good guy originally. Not my favorite Rory boyfriend, but certainly a great first boyfriend.

    I don't get why they had Jess still pinning after Rory in the revival... After all that many years it's insane! Haha!
    They could have had them being friends without the longing stares... Everyone would assume he is her Luke either way

      I agree. Like I could understand him still caring about her and loving her as a friend, and even reminiscing about their past...but the longing, pining stare??! It would be better if they reconnected just as friends and then begin to feel romantic towards each other again later down the road.

    Hm. I think it's a bit weird to say that Dean was out of line for getting angry at Rory meeting with a guy she was obviously into while telling him she wants to be alone (without knowing what happened, most people would be mad and hurt), but then Jess being the best boyfriend whilst ignoring Rory saying "wait" when he pushed himself onto her and then yelling at her for not wanting her first time to be this way and making her super upset and cry in pure confusion. I know people have been saying Jess assaulted Rory, I wouldn't call it that, but he definitely behaved horribly and it's one of the reasons I really don't appreciate him as much. 😕
    But thank you for explaining your reasons so thoroughly! I would personally rank the top 3 a bit differently with different reasonings, but I really appreciate the work you put into this ranking 😊

      I agree with you on the specific issue of that scene with Jess, but from my perspective both things aren't exactly comparable. Specifically, Dean's anger issues with Rory in regards to her possibly having an interest in other guys or even being seen with them IS a red flag, because it just shows him for being overly possessive and obsessive of Rory in a way that is not really healthy for any sort of relationship. His issues regarding this started even before Jess came to town, like in the season 1 finale when he sees Tristan hold Rory's books and holds that against Rory when by that point, they were broken up because that's what Dean wanted, so it's unfair of him to get jealous over a guy simply standing next to Rory when Rory repeatedly made it clear to Dean that she wasn't into Tristan.
      The bedroom scene with Jess is also bad, but in a different way. It doesn't have to do with possessiveness or jealousy, rather Jess's own anger taking control of his rationality because of his personal issues that time, and this in turn leading to him lashing out at Rory even when she tries to firstly comfort him and cheer him up, then tries to communicate with him about what exactly is bothering him when she doesn't want her attention to be taken away by Jess kissing her. So it's basically an analysis of Jess and Dean having anger issues but for entirely different reasons. Where Dean has anger issues over Rory even hanging out with other guys that show a likely interest in her, Jess is more lenient and wants to give Rory the space to do so, but just to let him know beforehand (and specifically with Dean, I can see why because Dean acted really weird around him after Rory and Jess got together). Whereas Jess had anger issues and lack of proper communication with Rory because of his own problems in his life and lack of drive. Both are bad, but not for the same reasons, if that makes sense.

    Jess had a lot of unresolved trama. His dad left him before he got to know him and his mom was neglectful and didn’t care what happened to her kid. He not only redeemed himself but he grew past his hard upbringing, and grew more than characters that had a better beginning. Trama like that can often make communication hard. Often causing shutdowns when conflicts arise.

      It’s a heavy topic I didn’t know how to properly articulate well for the video but I feel like he wasn’t pressuring Rory that wasn’t his intent. It was definitely very crappy of him and then to lash out on her was uncalled for but we know that it wasn’t because of her at all, he was struggling because he found out he wasn’t going to be graduating. Again it’s not an excuse, and if his story has ended right there he would have been in last place for me. But he redeems himself and proves that he truly loves Rory. Always had and will. Again i feel like I haven’t articulated this well enough hence why I left it out of the video ( I did record it but decided to edit it out)

      as she said in the video he’s selfish, self-centered, narcisistic, thinks he’s above everyone and everything (let’s not forget how logan and his friends treated marty and every person who’s not as rich as them), he’s immature (the life and death brigade is a group of morons, and let’s not forget how silly he behaved when he didn’t want to go to sookie’s babies baptism), and he doesn’t seem to have any respect for women. he cheated on rory in s6 and i will die on this hill, + he’s cheating on his fiancée with rory in the revival… so… rory, what makes you think he won’t cheat on you in the future? once a cheater, always a cheater.

    I think many people need to separate their crush on Jess from who was the best for Rory. Cuz honestly? Jess was the worst out of them all while they were in a relationship. Tried SA. Was never there when she needed him. Just simply left the state without as much as a goodbye. Came back a year later trying to make her to leave her life for him. Wake up people. That's the guy you would be hating if he was your ex in real life.
    Yes Jess matured. But by the time he matured Rory didn't want him anymore. Instead of thinking of him in the next season after they broke up, she actually spent that time literally pining over...who? Oh, yeah, Dean. She was missing Dean. And by the time that was done she got together with someone else. And she had a chance to go back to Jess. And did she? She told Jess straight in the face that she was in love with Logan. He wouldn't change that fact no matter what. Jess was a short lived high school romance that gave her a bit of a thrill because of what kind of a person he was. Nothing more than that.
    Logan honestly was best for her. He has his faults like every single one of her boyfriends did, but he still was always there for her, cared for her, challenged her but also kept her grounded, didn't allow her to ignore her own privilege, was not there just for her but for her family as well when Richard was sick - man flew in from London and took care of her entire family. Logan was her partner and obviously- no matter how messed up it is - they are still hung up on eachother a decade later. And if anyone comes at me saying "but he made Rory awful" NO. Rory made herself awful. Back in season 4 when she didn't even meet Logan. He was great but just fell in love with the version of her that you people don't like. So yeah that's my argument I guess. I could literally write an essay about this if I wasn't so lazy.

    • @inthought02
      @inthought02 Год назад +1

      Logan hardly did much of anything to "challenge her but also keep her grounded" by season 7. Yes, he got better at being a boyfriend to Rory, but yelling at her one time over an article and telling her she "wasnt paying rent either" for an apartment that he offered her to live in isn't him not allowing her to ignore her privilege when the whole fight was resolved in one episode. And then what does Rory do at the end of the season? She ignores her own privilege again by thinking that she didn't get a fellowship at NYT because someone else must've gotten it before her. Logan by season 7 is mostly fine, but his storylines and scenes have little to do with Rory's family beyond 2 scenes with Lorelai and him supporting her when Richard was in the hospital. I'm not saying those are bad scenes, they're just really not the "connection" you want Logan to have with her family. And by the end of the season it's clear that neither of them have actually sat down to talk about how to make their relationship work with their careers because Logan thinks that since Rory doesn't have the fellowship, she should just marry him and move to California.
      I also don't know if I can call their situation "hung up on each other" a decade later by the time the revival comes around, especially given how a) they're having an affair with each other that was never meant to last considering how Logan didn't give an indication that he wasn't gonna stop his marriage from happening, and b) it's framed more as Rory chasing the past through an ex-boyfriend she had while she was still in Yale. Once Logan's gone, Rory's fine on her own again. I don't think Rory's perfect, but Logan also doesn't make her perfect and that's OK too? Idg why everyone keeps saying that he "doesn't let her ignore her own privilege" when for the most part he seemed completely fine with helping Rory try to flaunt said privilege with him, but only yelled at her when he got offended by one article. And no offense but frankly all of Rory's ex-boyfriends are guys you'd hate if you had as an ex irl 😭. Dean would always yell at her when he was upset, got into an affair with her and kept breaking up with her when he was moody, Jess left and then came back and Logan broke up with her at her graduation ceremony and made the whole thing about her not accepting his proposal.

    • @minaveljovic9662
      @minaveljovic9662 Год назад +1

      @@inthought02 why would he not make a deal about the proposal? He was ready for more. She wasn't. He couldn't just keep being with her pretending like that didn't happen. He was a wonderful boyfriend, they were grown up so obviously if Rory didn't spend time with her family constantly, he wouldn't have a big connection either. But whenever he was around he tried his best to be respectful and show how much he cares for Rory and was also there for them as I mentioned before. And yes hung up on eachother. Logan literally traveled half of the world just because she wasn't feeling well and brought the life and death brigade back for her just to make her smile. That tells you something. And honestly Rory loved him the most. The way she fell apart when he went to London for the first time simply proves it. They all have faults yeah and they are all great in their own ways. I mostly agree with Matt Czuchry about what he said: every single one of her boyfriends was perfect for her in the period of time and age she was at. Dean was a good first boyfriend but that was that. Jess was that little high school thrill that meant some more but they weren't meant for eachother. Logan was a perfect look at how a real adult relationship looks like, and was honestly the healthiest of them all. But that's just my opinion...They're having a baby and I am 100% sure that if he can fly half of the world to cheer her up, he would never even dare to abandon his own child. Especially a child he made with the woman he still loves.
      And that thing about her still ignoring her privilege after yelling at her about it - well that's just a Rory problem, one he can't fix and it isn't his job to fix it. Sometimes he just needed to actually make her realize what she was doing. Doesn't mean one little talk will change her

    • @inthought02
      @inthought02 Год назад +1

      @@minaveljovic9662 Him flying back to Conneticut to bring the life and death brigade wasn't completely selfless though. He obviously brought back a key to a house of his under the pretense that she "write there" but given the fact that again, they were having an affair beforehand, it also felt like he was just trying to find another way to keep her in his life while conveniently still getting married. Hence why Rory ended it. And a breakdown over your boyfriend moving isn't a unique sign that proves Rory 'loved him the most? Obviously she loved him, but she also broke down over Dean when he broke up with her back in season 1.
      Also, you can easily bring up wanting to get married and having different priorities than your girlfriend without doing a public proposal at her graduation ceremony and then taking attention off of an occasion that is supposed to be a happy one for her. I'm not saying he should've stayed with Rory, but the way he handled that entire ordeal wasn't great, especially when he tried to be different than how he usually did things the entire time.
      Re: the privilege thing, I get your point but again, making someone aware of their privilege is a point a lot of his fans seem to mention yet there being little to no payoff from such a thing. They had an argument, Logan later apologized, that was it. It's obviously not Logan's job to "teach" Rory, but it's a weird argument for him being the best when it's never a substory or even a development on Rory's side.

      Season 7's writing overall is confusing to me. I get that Logan started to have development but his role as Rory's boyfriend from my perspective limited it, since they only got around to actually make him do something about his job in the last 6-7 episodes of the season.

    nah dean comes first, he was caring and sweet plus he built her a CAR. I hated that he proposed and married lindsay knowing that he still has feelings for rory. Jess likes to read book so what? he has communication issues, and forces himself onto her at the party like wtf. He was also rude to rory's grandma during dinner.

      dean is a possessive, jealous boyfriend. he basically has the "if i can't have you, nobody else can" mentality towards rory. getting angry at her for not saying "i love you" at their 3 month anniversary. and him getting angry for rory losing the bracelet, clearly tells that he gave the bracelet to her to mark as her possession. gets angry at rory for priortising her school. yells at her whenever he sees rory with another guy. manipulates rory into thinking his marriage with lindsey was over when it wasn't and he cheats on his wife, treats his wife like sh*t. also teen jess wasn't a saint, but he came from a traumatic background and he wasn't portrayed as a great boyfriend either. but, for dean to do all these things after being talked about as the best boyfriend on the show is not okay. jess had a lot of issues too, but he worked on it and changed himself.

      dean was abusive, possessive, controlling and with anger issues.
      the first time we saw him, when he said he watches rory read, like a stalker… that should’ve been a major red flag.
      he cheated on lindsay with rory, had no remorse whatsoever, and made lindsay feel bad about their marriage, making her think it was her fault, shouting and screaming at her. i wouldn’t be surprised if he also beat her.

    Personally, I used to be team Jess but I started to be team Logan because Logan pushes Rory to be adventurous and was willing to try committing a relationship with her. I was team Jess in the beginning but Jess had a very difficult time communicating with Rory and him have a lot in common with each other.
    He was also a god awful communicator and left town without any kind of explanation
    He also shows up to tell her he loves her and then runs off again.
    I love how he matured and turned his life around later in the series in year in the life.
    They kiss and are making out, he reaches for her belt, and she says wait but keeps kissing him and then when she says no again, he stops. He's thrown for a loop, confused, probably a little embarrassed, and as he's terrified of abandonment, her rejection cuts deep so he doesn't handle it very well but he was either confused but should’ve listened when she said stop twice.

    When it comes to Jess, I always judge him by how he was when he was actually with Rory, and I don't think he treated her well there, thus I can't be team Jess. HOWEVER, I do agree that as a person, he really developed into someone special, and I would have loved to have seen him and Rory give it a go as couple in the Year in the Life. Certainly would have enjoyed seeing that more than seeing Rory just sort of placidly existing as Logan's side chick.

I liked Marty too in season 4 then they made him a jerk in season 7! If he didn’t turn weird, I think he would’ve been a good choice for Rory. You forget several things about Jess. At least while they were together. First he starts by skipping school, without telling Rory anything. Then he attemps SA on her, and it's only when she manges to escape, when he is pulling his pants down, he stops. Nothing can excuse that. Nothing.
    And lastly: Jess just left without as much as a word ?
    So why are you still team Jess?

    • @inthought02
      @inthought02 2 года назад +1

      The bedroom scene is bad but pulling his pants down? This doesn't even happen. Rory says "wait" for the third time while they're kissing and he stops and she gets up while he moves aside. There's no motion of either of them buttoning anything up once this happens. Again, the scene is bad, but he doesn't even pull his pants down during this.
      Him leaving was bad in general. He didn't just not tell Rory, he didn't tell his uncle either, and he's actually held responsible for that in the narrative. Neither Rory or Luke take him back because of this and for good reason.
      You can dislike the bedroom scene and Jess because of it but frankly you should take that up with the writers for even inserting that scene for drama to get Jess and Dean to fight because that's literally the only thing it's used for. It's never referred to in the way that it should be and this isn't the only teen show that has this sort of questionable scene.

    WHY, OH, WHY DO PEOLE KEEP IGNORING THE FACT THAT JESS TRIED TO FORCE HIMSELF ON RORY? Also, he communicated horribly. In fact, he didn't communicate at all! I'm so tired of this Dean-hating narrative. Sure he was a cheating asshole in that season, but let's talk of him while being in a relationship with Rory. He truly, deeply cared for her. He liked her for who she was and adored her quirks, but most importantly she SHOWED it. He tried to build her a car for God's sake. I'm sorry but if your partner started hanging out a little too much with someone else, wouldn't it be sus for you? At the end of the day Dean tried not to be possessive or jealous even though he sensed something between Jess and Rory that was totally there! He was right to be jealous all along! I'm sorry I get all worked up but I very much disliked Jess, he was not a good fit to switch Dean for, in my opinion. He just liked to read and was a bad boy which Rory felt attracted to I suppose. At least in the revival he seemed like he got his shit together, good for him.

    But please, please, put Logan lower on the list. He's everything that we girls hate about men: he's a cheater, he gaslights you, treats people in the service industry like crap, he's extremely arrogant and entitled, he cheats on all his girlfriends (poor Odette or whatever her name is) and has no personality. At least Dean knew who he was, treated people with respect and grew a lot in the show (got married and settled down).

    I think you're romanticizing Jess from when he and Rory were together with Jess in A Year in the Life. Jess when he was with Rory was extremely moody, he lied to her constantly, he TRIED TO FORCE HIMSELF to her and then made her feel bad for saying no. He was rude to Rory's mother, rude to Luke who's basically Rory's father figure. He was extremely rude to Emily when Emily tried her very best to be accommodating to him. And he also left her without saying goodbye. That's not even all of the horrible things he did to her. What they had in common are their love for books and condescension when people didn't have the same tastes as them. I don't know where you got "He brought out the best in her" when he turned Rory into an insecure, needy girlfriend, the same as she was at the start of hers and Logan's relationship. All in all, Logan was the best for her. He started off bad but turned it around.
