      rory liking jess and lying to dean about wasn't deans fault, but he is not a good guy at all, despite of the several red flags through his relationship with rory, the worst part is the way he trated Lindsay. Unfforgivable, hate him

      @@nunoca2504 Rory never dated good guys, never (well except on the revival, but not even sure if Paul counts since she doesn't even like him and only cheats on him).
      That part always frustrated me, Dean started nice and then they turned him into a jerk, Jess was always douchey and rude before and while he was dating Rory until he grew up out of it while being away from her, but while he was dating her and before that he was just toxic af (some give him a pass because they have a thing for troubled boys who treat their gfs like crap), and then there was Logan who was kind of egotistical rich boy who thinks he can get away with everything just because he has money and a womanizer, then he gets a bit better but by the revival he's cheating on the woman he's enganged to.

      Technically they weren’t together, at least from his perspective, ‘cause that’s what he thought they were. No matter what she thought at that time.
      Because they both had that conversation about him truly believing they weren’t together anymore, so in his mind he wasn’t cheating on her, but drowning his loneliness and grief over this failed relationship.
      So, technically it wouldn’t be necessary to tell her about whom he’d slept with either. (Though I’d strongly reconsider letting my again-partner walk into a room of people I’ve recently had sex with.. not the wisest decisions being made in Gilmore Girls 😅)

    Telling the truth at all times, no matter what, is often about releasing the burden from the guilty. With maturity, people often realize that intentionally destroying another person by intentionally sharing information that hurts the target is often a transferrence of emotions.
    Not telling Dean about kissing Jess was not her crime- by kissing Jess, she cheated on Dean.
    When Paris saw Lorelai kissing Max, she told everyone out of spite. It was a hateful act. Honesty is not always an altruistic act. It can often be a hateful act.

      It all depends on intention for sure. I also do believe some truths are better left unsaid, people don't need to know every single thought and opinion you have, sometimes the unfiltered truth does more damage than good.

    Gilmore Girl and Desperate Housewives ..the similarities between the GG and Susan and Julie has always stuck with me. Two very immature mothers, raising a single daughter who had to carry the emotional burden and raise themselves. Becoming independent at a very young age while excelling at school and being socially popular. Later turning into chaotic adults who (quit school, become careless, failed careers and single mothers). Catching up on their youth basically.
    I’ve never found the space to discuss my observation..

    • @lebrilopejackalope5775
      @lebrilopejackalope5775 2 года назад +2

      You're so right, I never connected the dots before reading this comment, but it makes so much sense. Julie straight up was the parent on that dynamic.
      Now everytime I see this kind of co-dependent parent-child relationship I think of "emotional incest", where the parent relies on their child for emotional support or advise and essentially they treat their child not as a child but as a romantic partner, not sure if it's the right term for them since it feels iffy calling it romantic, but acting like your child is your best friend instead of someone you have to take care of as a parent is not healthy for them, since they need their parents to act like parents not as besties, and they need to be children not act as the caretaker.
      Many times through the show we see Lorelai struggle with playing the "mom card", she's uncomfortable putting limits for Rory and everytime she does the right thing and acts more like a mother towards her Rory lashes out because she's not used to having a mother. All of this would have been avoided if Lorelai had acted her role as a mother more, but she wanted to avoid becoming a strict and overbearing mother like Emily so much she avoided putting any kind of rules and restrictions and wanted to be more of a friend to her daughter than a mom, and it ended up bitting her in the ass hard because Rory ended up screwed up anyways because of it.

  • @CrystelD
    @CrystelD 2 года назад +20

    I also thought that. I would push it furder that what happened most of the time with every relationship is miscommunication/ lies. I had this revelation (when I was seeing it for the 10th time) with Luke and Lorelai / Jess and Rory who are the worst in term of miscommunication. So I though, what if the whole show was about this issue ? And yes, like you said, it make sens. We see it in a lot of situations. Also in the relationship between mother and daughter (Lane and Mrs Kim, Rory and Lorelai in season 6 (and other times), Lorelai and Emily (even though it's more complicated with them because even when they are telling there truth, they are not listening to one another)). So it's seems to be a pattern for all of this caracters. The whole show could be a representation of differents types of miscommunication (even when it's for a good cause, even when it's not you who started the lie (Rory - Marty)) and the consequences...
    Great video as always !

But after while you start realizing how incredibly selfish each and every one of them is. At least the Gilmore Girls are. Everything's always about Lorelei. Everything's has to revolve around her. Everytime someone lies, it's dishonest and selfish. They say they are trying not to hurt the other person,but they are just covering their own butts. Like trying save the person from pain. But really It's manipulation for their own benefits. I have also watched the entire series many times. I do it for knowledge in finding what NOT to do. It's interesting that I see stuff I missed somehow every time I watch it. Sometimes I would like to rewrite some of the dialogue or add something. But they wrote most of it well. This is a show that IS honest in telling the truth about fictional characters with true human behavior. I know a Logan/ Chris. I know their friends. I know a Marty. I've been around an Emily. I don't know a Rory, but I know a Jess. These people do exist with the similar traits. And similar circumstances that led to disastrous results. I resemble Luke himself.He's kind hearted , but tries to hide it. Likes uncomplicated situations ,but gets involved anyway. I remember he asked Lorelei if he was a mysterious person, She replied" well the wardrobe is a head scratcher". He really is a simple guy, but not stupid. I don't have an April, though. Good video. Thanks

    Yeah, but reality is boring. Just been watching a King of Queens episode where Doug and Deacon LIE to their wives to go to a casino. Without what is considered "immoral" or "not correct" behaviour or "intelligent behaviour", what show could work? The characters are written as opponents and they are not supposed to act much differently than they always do. That would be boring. I'm honestly not a fan of that, one reason I stopped watching tv shows mostly.
    Without miscommunication, not telling the truth, even lying a lot, a lot of drama could be avoided but that is not in the intention of the writers and the audience. Who would watch Gilmore Girls, when it the characters were written as 3dimensional characters instead of cartoon versions almost always acting as intended? Lorelai simply cannot stop making remarks towards her mother. She also cannot find a long-lasting partner or a husband, otherwise the dynamics between her and Luke and Rory and her parents would change dramatically.
    Still I think there are better ways to write drama instead of Rory lying, sleeping with Dean, seeing the same patterns of behaviour repeated over and over again or some people getting pregnant misteriously. It's probably best to watch dramatic shows without thinking to much about realism. If you do, you will realize that all 3 Gilimore Girls are not the great human beings many viewers used to think they are. With Sitcoms, it's a bit different, since you know they show misbehaviour for comedic purpose and therefor, I feel I don't have to take them so seriously, while on a dramatic show, to me at least, what a character says and does matters a lot more.

      Well said with just few words. 👏 It basically sums up most if not all dramatic shows and movies.
