- I watched Gilmore Girls for the first time and I'm convinced they might be my long lost family.
Welcome back to Pilot Says - the series where I watch the pilot episode of a show I've never seen before and then I decide if the episode did a good job of making me want to watch further. Today, we watched Gilmore Girls and validated my caffeine addiction.

It's not nearly as dramatic week to week like PLL or other teen shows but it builds up to these big relationship and life moments that are way more grounded in reality. It's all about the family and relationship dynamics. I really like it. I hope you do more. Thank you

In my opinion, this is the greatest show ever made. The relationship between Lorelai and Emily is a HUGELY complex beast. Should be studied in school.

Love Gilmore Girls! Would be delighted to see you react to it. It's kinda of brilliant in how it's so much a show that draws you in on charm and atmosphere. But then the central conflicts are generally relatable family drama. And the family drama is so well written that you do usually struggle to always side with one character over the other. (Especially if you first watched it when you were *ehm* 15 and now you're 31 and which side of the argument you side with has sometimes changed....) Also, a fascinating note is that Buffy and Gilmore Girls both ran on the same channel (WB) around the same time and Amy Sherman-Palladino GG's creator used to write episodes of the show with Buffy in the background, although it's not a supernatural show-I do think you can see some familiarities between the shows-witty dialogue for one.
ahhh yes now that you say that i can see some similarities between the dialogue! it's really so well done, enough that when just the way the dialogue changes, it changes the entire mood of the scene!
13:04 that barn is her dance studio, Miss Patty's school of dance, that's also where the town meetings are held. She's standing outside cuz she's smoking. She does that alot too, half out half in while giving instructions while smoking. In the new revival show, she lost alot of weight, I didn't even recognize her.

It's only high energy the first time you watch it through, once you've watched it through once, it's a good comfort show lol.
agreed! i got around to watching a few more episodes and that high energy kind of tapered off it was much easier on me haha!
The harp player went on to play Susie on "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" from the same creators. She was supposed to play Sookie, the chef, on "Gilmore Girls," and did play her in the original pilot episode (which is available online--it's basically a shorter version of this with a couple of different actors).
This is my favourite show ever! I watch it every winter, makes me feel warm inside! Hope you react to it all.

When it aired, I used to watch it with my mom, it was her favorite show as well. She passed ten years ago and ever since, I watch it almost every fall ! So conforting 😊

You definitely should watch at least the first four seasons of Gilmore girls the last three seasons are so awful and Gilmore girls a year in the life was unfortunately bad ☺️🤗💝😬🤯😡🥶

@@darciesnothere The amount of times I've been peacefully watching a comforting ep, only to be blindsided by an emotional wrecking ball, replete with prolonged silence that feels more pointed on this show than most. Now THAT'S good writing.
I love Gilmore Girls. It is my guilty pleasure. I can sit and watch 5 episodes at a time with my mom. She is 87, and she loves the show just as much as me.
its a show that was meant to rewatch on repeat, so eventually you get all the jokes and discover new things each time you watch! the best comfort shoe everr

Lurking boy is played by Jared Padalecki, who played Sam on Supernatural. Here, he's Dean. In Supernatural, he had a brother named Dean. ;) The ballet teacher is standing outside to have a smoke. It's not terribly obvious that that's what she's doing. ;)
someone pointed that out to me that he's in supernatural!! i wouldn't have tied that together. and good point! i didn't see the smoke in her hand just thought she was over all the little kids jumping around LOL

Late to the party, but…Fun! Liked your comments on the ridiculousness of the Pilot, which repeated GG viewers can end up missing… I also liked that you also really emphasized the changes in mood. I’d like to watch you take on more GG episodes, please!
Pilot has several Easter eggs Re: primary conflict of the show, I.e. that Lorelei was a teen mother who ran away from home(&rich parents)…to be a housekeeper at the Inn.
Mrs Kim asks, Lane & Rory.., “Did you find out if any of the girls at school got pregnant?”
Lorelei has a convo w/Sookie that Lorelei didn’t get to go to college, but now Rory could have the life that she didn’t.
There’s probably more, but those are the first that come to mind.
I don't think Dean is really stalking Rory. I don't think he's following her around; she just happens to be somewhere where he sees and notices her. And he tells her about it pretty soon.

I love the show. I binge watched all seven seasons earlier this year and at the end of every season I just wanted to see the next one and got sadder and sadder as I realized it was gonna end eventually. That is how you know a show is great. Also I was a bit biased going in, when it originally aired I was busy with life stuff but my mom used to watch it and I watched about two episodes with her and now it just reminds me of that wonderful time in my life. So there is that

Okay, I had no idea you even reacted to this. I was just casually searching for reactions to the show, hoping someone else had reacted to it as there is literally only one other person who does (and he's a guy, not that there is anything wrong with that lol), and bam! one of my fave people ever!! IDK how I missed this but I subscribe to so much, it's not that shocking. Anyway.....
I only have 5 shows that are my favorite shows ever: Buffy, Friends, Third Watch, Life Unexpected, and Gilmore Girls. I've rewatched GG more times than any other show, which is saying a lot 'cause I've rewatched BTVS at least 25 times. But Gilmore? I am constantly watching. Once it ends, I simply start over again. It's my comfort show. It just makes me so happy. It's mac and cheese, okay? ;)
Basically, if you ever add reactions of this to Patreon, the break I was trying to take from there will be canceled. LMAO

HI!! I just found you as i searchrd to see if anyone had done reactions to this show!! It's one of my faves!!.... The one thing that drew me in was the quick witty banter, jokes & references Both Pop culteral & Historical between the characters ........ Fun Fact: Someone from the show said that they used to get thanx from people because it got their kids to look up all thes references in the show.... Some of which i didn't even understand.
BTWs ... there a podcast called "Gilmore Guys" and at the start of each episode the do a quck clip rundown af ALL the references in the chow .......... it's on Spotify :)

I have watched this show MULTIPLE times! One of my all time favorites! So much so I named my daughter Lorelai…. It’s funny I came across this video today, her 14th birthday is tomorrow.

I started watching Gilmore Girls and stopped - kind of for the reasons you laid down. Take-aways from the pilot: I love how the grandfather is reading the newspaper at night. Who TF reads the newspaper at night? I thought it was newspapers in the morning, and journals/books/magazines at night. I'm sure there was a rule book somewhere. Melissa McCarthy is all kinds of crazy-sauce, which is to be expected. Also, the front desk guy's French accent is horrible. He must be stopped. I loved how happy you were with Lorelai's potential romantic interest and how you reacted to the differences in setting. That was so funny! Great reaction, as always.
The guy who plays Michel (the front desk guy)’s actual mother tongue is French 😂 maybe it sounds weird because he’s from Canada. And the Melissa McCarthy’s clumsiness gets very toned down after a few episodes. Maybe if you try to watch it again and ignore that for some episodes you’ll get to enjoy it ❤️

LOL about your newspapers at night comment. 😊 It is a thing, though, I promise! Where I grew up, the newspaper didn't come until later, like mid to late afternoon (now it comes in the morning), and my dad would read the paper after supper when he got home from work. Of course now they just watch the news or check out stuff online.
There used to be morning and evening editions of newspapers, and you could get the Sunday paper at the grocery store on Saturday afternoon…

I love the early seasons of Gilmore girls I really loved watching this show as a kid and you are so right about dean he was so mediocre 🥰🤩🤗😉😳
This show has a cliffhangerish kind of ending but it's pretty easy to figure out the meaning behind everything once you put the pieces together. It happens in the 2016 revival btw not at the end of the original series because the show creators (Amy Sherman Palladino & Dan Palladino) didn't write the 7th season due to contractual issues with the network and therefore didn't get to finish the show the way they always intended to.

Yeah I worked line cook at a restaurant in LA, it was stressful lol, Not on some Hells Kitchen stress but I had a very dramatic and anal about their work Head Chef lmao I lasted 2yrs smh
