I made this! It is fantastic. Please understand...I am an absolutely horrible cook. The only thing I'm skilled at in the kitchen is setting off the fire alarm, which is why I rarely cook. This turned out delicious and I have a little bit more confidence now. Thank you for such great content and easy to follow directions.
Happy to hear that! Much love :)
This made me laugh , but Its great that you did it,
Well done one recipe at a time!
I teach cookery.
One of the things I impress on students is: Basics first. No point trying to make an elaborate meal if you haven't mastered basic techniques. They are the foundation of everything.
The other thing when learning is: Only cook food that you like. No point in making something that you already hate. You want to eat and enjoy your creation!
Good luck on your new adventure. Once you've had a few successes, and others appreciate them, your confidence will encourage you to go further and further.
One of my students didn't even know how to toast bread. You should see her now, whipping up party food for kids, and full course meals for adults!
Lol Liv! Thank you for the belly laughs 😆
As a vegetarian who enjoys simple, healthy and tasty recipes, I am so grateful for your videos! 🙏🏼🎉
Much love :)
Yes, this is the best channel.
This is what kids should be eating at their school cafeterias in USA. Nutritious, delicious, inexpensive and compatible with different dietary choices. Instead they get pizza where the tomato sauce counts as a vegetable!
And the tomato sauce is basically red dye. So sad.
Not just America, all over the world!
No profit from nutrition
That is awful, here in the UK my granddaughter has roast chicken and vegetables, fish sometimes, she loves the dinners. Not all schools have chefs on the premises though
@@DanielSRosehill this. Even in other countries the school lunches are pitiful things. So much empty carbohydrates.
I'm Swedish but my parents are from Chile and they have cooked this for me. So this delicious dish is not only enjoyed in Spain but also in Latin America 😊
In Germany, too, I always thought this is THE typical german stew ;)
Seems like a standard bowl of soup. Given the universal appeal, no doubt is tasty and affordable.
I'm chilean too and yeah, this stew is all over Latinamerica, I think its all a joint effort over time, for instance, potatoes and peppers are native from Latinamerica, they didn't exist anywhere else for a long time, but there were no lentils in America until the europeans arrived; carrots on the other hand, are native from Iran/Afghanistan. The stew just keep evolving over centuries.
My Mexican mother also makes a similar stew.
@OneLoveDre in Europe, nationality and culture goes by blood, in America is by soil, since we're all super mixed, but you can get a 2nd nationality if your parents or grandparents are from europe or something like that
Why is it so many families can’t cook this …? if it’s not in a box they can’t feed their family…a good cheap filling tasty meal
Lentils and potatoes and garlic and tomatoes...CAN NEVER go Wrong!!!!!!!
Yes! Much love :)
I'm watching it at 4am, and now I'm hungry 😆😅
Bravo , it's like dal with vegetables, you fold your hand and say thank you actually it's namastey ....from India
I don’t cook, but I found these Lentils and your recipe came up, I went to the grocery store with list in hand, followed your video … WHAT? Amazing! Thank YOU for sharing ❤
So happy to hear that! Much love :)
Cooking foods from around our world, and sharing what you make with friends/family, is the best way to travel on a budget :D
Another excellent recipe. I really like that when you do something in a particular way, you always explain why. Another thing I love about your videos is that you always give exact ingredient measures and cooking times, which is important when trying a recipe for the first time. Later you can always fine-tune them to your particular taste.
Much love!
@@SpainonaFork Am curious why you didn't put the recipe in the description area for those of us who like to follow the recipe along with you in the video ? Thanks for your time
Season the lentils after they have cooked! That is why I have never been successful cooking lentils. That seems like the most important tip ever. Thank you!!!
Much love :)
I am cooking this right now. Looking at your channel, I like the stuff, healthy and inexpensive dishes which can be cooked in large batches. There is no way I can decide what to try next. Could you give me your top 5 vegetarian dishes to do next please? :D
So many to choose! Much love :)
@@SpainonaFork ok, tell me your 3 favorite meals 😃
Thank you so much for this recipe. I made it exactly like you did, and at the end added two handfuls of fresh spinach. It was DIVINE!! Keep up you great work!!
Sounds great! Much love :)
I made this tonight May 11, 2023. My wife and I LOVED IT. The hardest part in preparing this delicious recipe is peeling the carrots and potatoes. I will definitely make this again.
So happy to hear that! much love :)
If you scrub the potatoes really well there is no need to peel them; lots of fiber and nutrients (esp. antioxidants) in the peels. I only peel my spuds when serving company and never for family ;)
I watched already countless videos from this channel, and cooked several of the delicious dishes, and just realized that all the recipes are vegetarian.
Alberto IS vegetarian. With the high cost of meat, it has been fortunate to find his channel, so saving money and eating healthier.
Other than cheese, but yes.
He also does seafood
@@tanaschmidt3728 your right. Very light meals for the most part.
@@tanaschmidt3728 I've made his garlic shrimp; awesome!!!
This looks, delicious.
I will definitely try it.
PS, If lentils/beans give you flatulence, use a good pinch of asafoetida (hing in Hindi) during the cooking. You can buy it online or in an Asian food store if you're near one. I use it all the time when cooking Indian lentil or bean dishes.
Good advice. However, if, instead of eating meat, you ate more legumes, your intestines would not act up. It's the things you rarely eat that make gas.
I made this three days ago and have been having it each day for lunch. Absolutely delicious, the beauty of it is the simplicity which brings forward all the base flavours. Will definitely be making it again
Glad you like it! Much love :)
My mother would add sliced chorizo to it and we'd fight over them! LOL Love lentejas! xoxo
"LOL"
🤦🏻♂️
This is one of my favorite dishes from my childhood and still make it now. My eldest son recently asked me for the recipe but I don’t measure anything!!! Just sent this to him he’ll be so happy he can make it from a recipe now 🥰
That's great! Much love :)
Lol!! My wife just made a HUGE pot of our family fav standard - lentil soup. She throws whatever veggies we have left just before a grocery run. It's a "stone soup". I can vouch for this one.
Lentejas is my favourite starter here in Murcia but I’ve never seen a vegetarian version as shown here. They always add chunks of chorizo and lardons of jamon or bacon to the recipe. Whatever your choice, it’s delicious.
I'm from Murcia myself and, as you pointed out, I've never seen a veggie version of the dish. Only in canned food. Maybe it's something from other regions of Spain... Personally, I love my lentejas with chorizo, very fatty bacon and pork ribs (the latter is the best part of the dish for me, so tender and full of flavour). No need to say that lentejas is actually my all-time favourite dish xD
Lentejas viudas or lentejas estofadas, no meats added, maybe more common in Central Spain.
I love the aroma of cooking lentils, especially with a bay leaf in there. I think it’s time to make my kitchen smell delicious again!
Yes! Much love!
I just made this tonight, and honestly this is my first time making stew by myself and it was so easy and simple! Longest time area was cutting and peeling everything. But happy this is the first recipe I've tried, and can't wait to try the next!
So happy to hear that! Much love :)
"honestly"
I love making this with some plantain and French baguette on the side, delicious!
Sounds great! Much love :)
I like to add a little red wine when it is cooking. I have used celery in this recipe as well. I have used a hamhock for more flavor. When finished, I top it off with parsley, olive oil, sea salt, and a dollop of sour cream on top. Exquisite!
That is American style. Nothing like the Spanish version!
@@magdalenam3737 It also tastes better. Also, it's silly to say it's "nothing" like the Spanish version, when it's literally the same soup with a few added ingredients to make it taste better. Folks get really defensive about recipes, and oddly enough it seems to be when somebody improves on them.
@@benjaminkenobi21 not being defensive I just know from living in the USA and being born in Spain that the flavors in both recipes are very different. This channel is about Spanish food so i wanted to state the obvious...if you are going for Spanish flavor add chorizo and follow the traditional methods as were outlined in this channel's recipe. Many ways to make them and many ways will be delicious.
In Spain we have another version with chorizo and serrano ham chunks (be careful with salt then) and some red wine too, so is not that different. You can change the hamhock for chorizo next time if you want to give it a try. We make two different versions at home indeed. One with vegetables only without wine and with a little bit of vinegar in the end once in the plate and the one with chorizo and red wine and without vinegar. I don't know if these two versions are from different places in Spain or one of them is the Easter version, as it was not allowed to eat meat.
Love your meat free recipes. Thanks for uploading.
Much love!
😊Super simple yet delicious and wonderfully layered flavors! Diet friendly too! Bravo 👏

I made this and my family loved it! Even my husband who doesn't like soup said "this is really good!" What I love is how simple and affordable it is to make (this is what I love best about all your recipes). Thank you!
So happy to hear that! Much love :)
It doesn't matter how long it took for you to share this recipe. The important thing is that you did share it. I made this tonight, with a few minor changes and tossed in a ham bone. The result was so delicious, I'm glad there is enough for seconds.
Sounds great! Much love :)
OMG! Thanks for sharing this with us. I made it yesterday and it was awesome. The smell was amazing. The only regret I have is that I didn't double the recipe. Thanks, we truly enjoyed this one💖.
So happy to hear that! Much love :)
Simple , so inexpensive and superb.
I make this once weekly throughout Winter.
A great recipe , Albert .

Thanks for the recipe. I’m making it tonight. It smells delicious right now with my own vegetable stock so once again, thank you it smells delightful.
Hope you enjoy!! Much love :)
I’m glad I found your channel! Your narration voice is very pleasant. The recipe looks so good! I never knew to season lentils at the end, just like beans. Thanks for the recipe
Much love :)
I've just discovered your channel - I will definitely be checking more of your recipes out! I live in Andalucía and I absolutely love real Spanish food - lentil stews are very popular here and a lot of people sprinkle white wine vinegar on top, which is really delicious! It's great to be able to get so many different types of lentils here too.
Sounds great! Much love :)
I made this for my family last night and it went down a treat. I’ve made many dishes from your channel and this is the best so far for me. Thank you for all your hard work, it’s appreciated by many. I always look forward to your uploads 🙌
So happy to hear that! Much love :)
I have been making lentil soup all my life, usually with either curry powder or cumin. But this is now my favorite. I never thought of using smoked paprika in lentil soup, it is sooo delicious. Your recipes are simple but tasty. Thank you.
So happy to hear that! Much love :)
*its that time of year again for stews and soups!* i must say that I do make Lentil soup quite a bit at home, I will have to try your recipe!
That lentil was the best-looking lentil stew I've seen looks so delicious I'm going to try it
Thank you! Much love :)
I made this three times this week. Twice for the family and a hearty pot my sons friend. It’s wonderful!
Happy to hear that! Much love :)
This recipe was a HUGE hit!! I have been craving Spanish lentils for a long time. I had a friend whose mother made amazing ones. I have wanted to make this for my family and I’m so glad that I found your page! Thank you!!
Happy to hear that! Much love :)
We made this last night, the full recipe even though there are only two of us. It was quite outstanding and very delicious. We had enough left over for lunch to day. Next time we will try with green lentils and just a tiny bit of chilli to give some zing. Definitely now on our favourites list!
So happy to hear that! Much love :)
This is easy, healthy and uses things we already have in our pantries. I love a meal like this with cold weather coming on. Thanks. I will be referring back to this recipe.

I’ve had a bag of lentils on my kitchen counter for a few days and wanted to make lentil soup but now I think I’ll make this instead. Thanks for the video!
Hope you enjoy! Much love!
I lived in Spain for two years long ago, 1980-1982. I spent most of my time in Andalucia (southern Spain) and the Canary Islands. One fond memory of the 9 months I spent living in Sevilla with friends, was our nearly daily lunch trek to a small bar/cafe for a quick, cheap, deliciious lunch. The menu was limited, and when we entered the waiter frequently shouted, "Hoy hay lentejas y ensalada," or "Today we have lentils and salad," and that was always music to our ears. Love this lentil stew and I continue to cook it to this day, along with a frequent Spanish tortilla or paella. Love the food of Spain!
Much love :)
I made this last night and we loved it! Thanks so much for this easy, delicious and economical dish!
So happy to hear that! Much love :)
I just love when people promote their homeland cooking the way you do. It’s all about love and sharing.
Lentils are amazing, in France we have the "Petit salé aux lentilles" which is a great classic but takes way more time to prepare and cook (and won’t be suited for veggetarians or people who won’t eat porc I’m afraid), I will try your spanish recipe asap 😋
Much love :)
I’ve been craving lentil soup and I bumped into your channel miraculously. Ive seen you on TV also and love your recipes. Anyway, I followed your recipe with the exception of the vegetable broth so I substituted with with chicken broth. The lentils cooked in 25 minutes and they were wonderfully tasting. This is definitely my go to recipe. Thank you for sharing 😊
Happy to hear that! Much love :)

We’ve eaten lentil stew most of our lives, made a bit different, my mother is from South America. I love this simple recipe, I’ll have to try this out today. What I love about your recipes is that they are simple and many are veg recipes! Thanks for including those recipes as well! I made the white bean stew yesterday! It was nice and simple and it felt so healthy, but still delicious! I did add a half of potato though for some extra, since we didn’t have rice. Best
Sounds great! Much love :)
This is such a good dish! So easy and full of flavor. Really enjoyed it

Truly amazing a very tasty soup👍. Thank you for your concern. I have been enjoying all the recipes I have downloaded so far.👍

Interesting dish. I m greek and we have a similar dish but we keep it simple. We boil the lentils once , throw the first foaming water , we boil again and we add a little oil , onion , a little garlic and one-two laurel leaves. At the end five minutes before removing from fire we add origanum ( it gets bitter if cooked a lot) and finally some virgin olive oil , after removing from fire. The taste is amazing since you feel the taste of lentils not disguised by the variety of vegetables with the final touch of origanum. You eat with a food home-style bread and maybe some olives and you are in heaven...
@@cold_servo_pie we agree that we disagree and we agree that we are both sauvinists. Buenas nocces !!!!
The reason to throw the first water away is that in the boiling water the lentils released a lot of a kind of sugar types which typical let getting you become a ballon after eating lentils. So changing the boiling water makes them easier to digest :)
@@mickeymaus1 thanks for the tip. If you ever cook the lentils the way I described add a little vinegar at the end of cooking , I forgot to mention it
@@odysseasntalias5950 with the vinegar its also pretty common in Germany too but there u use also always bacon cubes at the beginning - instead of olive oil…
So the typical brown lentil dishes about whole Europe seaming to be in general pretty equal 😅
@@mickeymaus1 bacon. Definitely yummy but not healthy. But still i m gonna try your recipe. Danke!!!
The addition of the potatoes and peppers has not been an addition to my lentil soups. However this is a lentil STEW - and man did you make my mouth water. Definitely making this tonight. Thanks so much for this recipe - definitely a heart warming dish.
This looks like a very good recipe!! I love that you added in the reasons why you do what you do, and tips for a variation with meat, it is very helpful for learning to cook

I made this for the first time over the weekend and it was so easy (and oddly satisfying).
When I tried it straight away I thought it was a little bland until I added some salt, pepper, vinegar and olive oil.
But when I had the leftovers yesterday it was delicious and didn't need any extra seasoning.
10/10 will make again. Thanks for another wonderful recipe, Albert.
Much love :)
Stews and soups are always better the next day cause the flavors had time to develop :)

Thank you. This is my favorite for lentils thus far. I am not vegan, so I used chicken stock instead of veg. and a house tomato/marinara beacuse I make it every year and keep frozen cubes all year long, vs sauce, added fresh tomatoes too, with a dash of redwine vinegar and oilve oil on top prior to serving. This is one of the easiest to make, and your directions are easy to folllow. Thanks again.
Happy to hear that! Much love :)
I see Spanish food, I like, I subscribe, and I thank you for your contribution to my kitchen.

Delicious hearty soup. I added two sliced Andouille sausages. So good!
Sounds great! Much love :)
Looks delicious! I'm Dominican and in my family we make it very similar, only substituting a few of the produce. We don't use paprika, auyama instead of potatoes and carrots, and cilantro instead of bay leaves and parsley. I'm definitely going to try your version because those flavors look fantastic too.
Sounds great! Much love :)
Bravo, this is a classic Spanish dish. You forgot one thing though - add a glug of olive oil before serving and serve with good bread. Dishes like this clearly have their origins with poverty but can become wonderful with additional ingredients like the ones in the video. Pork and/or chorizo is often added but.....I once made the Italian version of this with the best lentils in the world (Norcia) and added the traditional wild boar sausage. The lentils were so delicious that the tasty sausage wasn't necessary. Get the best lentils you can afford because they absorb flavour like a sponge. A cheap simple but great ingredient which could easily help with the problem of food poverty in countries like the U.K if people could cook dishes like this one.
Ironically, this humble recipe is way healthier than much of what people eat nowadays in many parts of the world.
@@montesierra717 Totally agree. It's delicious, healthy and affordable. These ingredients are, as you say, very humble. It's not a recipe that has to be followed by the letter either. You can add or remove some elements of it.
Lentejas and other staples used to be cheaper now they are becoming expensive because of demand (in average Lentejas $3, Garbanzos $3.5 and Habas $3.75 dollar per kg respectively, as reference good beef $6 dollar/kg) in this part of the world.
best lentils ever. now one of my goto recipes. thanks.

Beautiful recipe wonderfully presented.Thank you so much

I love lentils. Just bought some red lentils because that's all I could find at the store. Never cooked them before and didn't know they get soggy. I usually just add brown lentils to my turkey soup. To my knowledge, my Spanish grandmother never made a lentil dish. We have no handed down recipes. (She did cook a lot of garbanzos.)

As always - a nice recipe and an interesting, Mediterranean variant. I love lentil stew, but my German variant differs in nuances. I use "Mirepoix" instead of peppers and tomatoes. In addition to salt, pepper, laurel, clove and cinnamon are used as spices. This is then bound with dark "Roux". In the south of Germany, lentil stew is often eaten with spaetzle (a type of pasta) and sausages. However, I would omit the potatoes
Mediterranean food is the best by far. As an Italian I love all the Mediterranean foods. I'm definitely going to try this.
Yes! Much love :)
