I make lentil soup once a week. Your grandmother is not my grandmother but they probably were neighbors because I make mine with the same ingredients except I use spinach instead of Kale. For New Year’s Day it is our tradition for: Health, Wealth and Happiness!!! Thank you for sharing. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I used your lentil soup recipe as an outline to make my own today: 1/2 Red onion, 2 cloves fresh garlic, 1 green pepper, 1 carrot (cut fancy), 2 lg handfuls baby spinach, red lentil (about 1.5 c), 4 cans chicken broth, four frozen beef shish kebabs browned nicely, salt, and a spoon of chicken bouillon. I was amazed how well it came out. Very tasty and a nice consistency. It's not going to last 17 yrs in the freezer. It will probably be all gone today. Thank you, Chef, for the video!
I made this soup last week for the first time, and shared it with my very well-traveled/dined neighbor. He said it was the BEST SOUP HE'S EVER HAD, and I have to agree.
I love lentil soup. My grandmother used to make it with just parsnips and butternut squash. It was so good, especially when the butternut squash would break down, and blend into the soup. Yum. I will definitely make your grandmothers soup Chef. Thank you. Happy Monday!!
Just made this for dinner. AMAZING! Added a leek because I had one, and spinach because I did not have kale. The whole family loved it! I'm not afraid to season food anymore. Thank you Chef Jean-Pierre❣️
Thank you Chef. I love how you explain everything. I had all the ingredients except for the sausage. I used half of pound of bacon instead. Love the texture. It was delicious. Keep up the good work. God bless
Good morning Chef J-P, fabulous, absolutely fabulous. The soup looks so nourishing and tasty. All the fresh goodness in one pot and one plate yes, I think a country bread would be very good to go with this. Thank you for sharing and showing, our winter is just starting in S. Africa, so soup will be very much eaten most of the time. Not forgetting pot roasts and casseroles, no surprise we add weight during winter, or maybe a toasted cheese sandwich with tomato soup. Do take care, Jack is a privilege fellow to eat with you. You are taking good care of the camera man!! Have a beautiful day. Kind regards.
I made this soup today, and my sister thought it was one of the best soups she had ever had. I have to agree that this soup is very flavorful. Thank you for this recipe. I'll be making it again.
Chef Jean Pierre, I followed the recipe and the lentil soup turned out perfectly! your channel is the go to place for all of my favorite recipes, thank you
I love Chef JP!!! One thing i do want to say though, please! People might be scared because of ALL the bowls he uses for his mis on place ( yes, i spelled that wrong 😂) but if you watch his video, you can see by when he adds thing, some can all go into 1 bowl, therefore cutting down on dishes. He just does it his way to explain and show what he is adding when. Don't be scared to put the celery and carrots in the same bowl, the herbs in the same bowl etc
Perfect for a rainy day such as today, the whole family loved it including a 9 month old! Like so many others, I turn to this channel for the wholesome recipes, positivity and inspiration . You have earned admiration like no other, thank you for inspiring me to cook.
Chef, your mum must have been a fantastic cook. All her recipes which you have cooked on this channel are worth putting in a little book. Well done mum!
The little clip at the end was a great addition, it really highlighted Chef JP's kindness. Seeing him fetch a bowl for (I'm assuming Jack) shows us how he's like when "the cameras aren't rolling"; he seems like a genuinely nice guy. Cheers for another great video, I've also never had lentil soup before so I'll have to try it!

Here in northern Germany, we make our lentil stew with smoked belly bacon, potatoes, carrots, mustard, vinegar and sugar. Like many of our dishes, it is sweet and sour. Now I'll have to make it your way! Thank you Jean-Pierre for the new experience!
Chef hit it out of the park again! Even better than my Italian grandma made it! He’s so right about browning the meat properly. I inadvertently forgot the sweet potatoes when I was shopping for ingredients. This dish still soared. I used a whole pound of sausage, because why not. This dish has such Wonderful flavors And textures dancing across your pallet. 🎉. Thank you , Chef! God bless you sir & keep ‘em coming.😊👍👊

I watched several of your videos when visiting her recently. You take the mystery out of great cooking. I am looking forward to trying some of your recipes. Love from your littlest fan, Veronika.

i made a lentil soup/stew yesterday. the thing i love most about soups/stews is that you can put almost anything in it. i love it :) my recipe was intuitively just like yours, only i added normal potatoes and kidney beans, with frozen fresh peas as a topping at the end, and i didn't use kale.
Omg! I just started working with a nutritionist to get my health back on track and she recommended I eat more kale and lentils to boost my iron intake. The vitamin c in the tomatoes will also help with iron absorption. Definitely going to make this!
Lentils are so underappreciated! Great source of protein. I just made a bolognese and a chilli yesterday and they both taste so amazing, as always. Thanks for the recipes!
Thank you Chef! That is the first time i see beef, kale and sweet potato in a lentil soup recipe! I have seen smoked pork ribs or small pieces of sausage, but kale and sweet potatoes - never considered!
Good Morning Chef. I made your split pea soup last week and it was great! And now I know what to do with the lentils that have been sitting in my cabinet!
Chef, I made this for dinner today and it was fantastic! My spouse is not a big fan of sweet potatoes or kale, but she really loved them in this soup. Their flavors blend very well with the sausage and other seasonings. I understand better now what you mean about certain ingredients being in the 'background' and how they enhance the overall taste. Thanks!!!
I made this tonight, using the homemade vegetable stock recipe. I followed it fairly closrly, but used mild Italian sausage instead. If I were making it only for myself, I would use the hot Italian sausage. I will leave out the sweet potato next time. I don't think it adds anything, and I don't think it looks right as well. I don't care for kale, but it does work well in this recipe. The main problem is that it comes in a large bunch, much more than I use in this dish. All things considered, this is an excellent version of lentil soup, easily adjjsted to suit yourself. We loved it!
One of the real fine qualities about Chef Jean Pierre is that he is not dogmatic about cooking. Sometimes I see the people getting worked up over whether you put beans in chili. Many Texans will say "it's not chili if you use beans". Chef John has ALWAYS been "Put it in if you like it, leave it out if you don't like it, put in something you like more". There is no carved in stone recipe in the culinary world that cannot be improvised on (maybe a few exceptions). Chef gets this. When I hear someone talking about "no beans in chili" I make sure to mention I put AT LEAST four different kinds in and sometimes leave out the meat! Love watching those heads explode. Chef is a very relaxed culinarian that clearly loves what he does. We benefit from that. The culinary world was my first life and I regret not being lucky enough to work in one of his establishments.
Your tips are helpful. Your recipes are delicious. You make everything seem easy. And you're so much fun! Thank you so much for the laughs and great food!
I have seen so many new and interesting recipes on your channel, Chef Jean-Pierre. Not to mention, I’m not afraid to try doing an old recipe in a new way. Thanks for giving me the confidence to take a chance with a recipe!
It's nice to see a chef talk about only cooking the garlic long enough to release the oils and then stop the sauté. So many recipes say sauté the onions and garlic together. NEVER DO THAT! This is similar to the same basic recipe I use for a wide variety of fast cooking bean recipes, lentil, navy, red or black bean. By adjusting the number/type of vegetables, tomato, spices and the type of meat, a wide variety of delicious soups can be made. It really is about the technique and general amounts used.
My first thought was Yeah my kids are going to like daddy cook this, then I was like YIKES 😱 look at how many ingredients there are, but then after watching and hearing you make it I’m all in and my kids are going to be lucky kids now! 😅
I have a three-year-old grandson, and now I can save this soup in the freezer for when he turns 20!
Thank you, Chef.
