You've got so much skill! Your videos are an extension of YOU, not a contrived alter-ego like all these other RUclipsrs.
When I first heard this song, the main thing that went through my head was "This could really use some syncopated claves." Low and behold, they came in the next verse.
Mercenaries, switchblade, machine guns, payload? Sounds like the song is based on aspects of Team Fortress 2... Could be completely wrong though...

Rediscovered this gem, I was scared I lost it.
I honestly think it's pretty cool seeing his beard at different lengths in different shots. It's like a small window into the amount of time he actually puts into his work. Very cool.
I love how he shows his process - the making and performing are all one.

MAN this is good. This song and "Away" are standouts for me on this album. I would love a "Storytellers" breakdown of where these songs came from, lyrically and thematically.

I've sat down twice and tried to figure out (in the most basic manner) the guitar part. I know you're doing two different parts, but I can't come up with anything even close to what you're playing.

@soapergem - The number of takes varies. full drum kit usually is a lot of takes before i get a good one. a simpler song like this requires fewer takes. acoustic guitars, maybe 2 or 3 takes. vox usually takes more tries, maybe up to 5 per take (but the lead vox line is quadrupled). I don't do much "comping" meaning using different parts of different takes, because it's too hard to keep track of for video. for super hard stuff, i'll do as many takes as i need till i like it (30+ maybe)

i love this man!
I think he might me refering to "the revolution babies", since the ones revolving are usually the poor "underdogs", the ones with no money, and hence the people that can't afford to hire mercenaries. Also, I'm not sure why mercenaries would go into war with switchblade against machine guns, if you're just doing it for the money, surely you wouldn't go into a fight you're likely to lose.
But who cares, it's just a song lyric to a great song :)

@acoustechtony - I've been thinking about doing that (having a running webcam in my studio). If I had internet at my house (I only have a wimpy, low-signal 3G device) I would set that up. I could allow people to login and see a normal "working day" for me in the studio. I'll try to figure out how to get that running if people are interested.
