Garage Makeover with Rock Solid Floor Paint

- Our garage needed some big time attention so I cleared it out and used the RustOleum Rock Solid Garage Floor paint for this makeover. It took quite a few steps but each step was beyond simple and I couldn't be happier with the results. Our garage floor was in bad shape so I needed to do quite a bit of prep work, but actually painting the epoxy paint was the easiest part. It's a great solution for high traffic floors like a garage workshop and I'm thrilled with how it turned out.

Great job and video!
Thanks!
I used this product but failed to prep the floor properly just a power wash. It was a huge failure it lifted almost immediately so if all the steps are followed maybe it is better. Lots of good reviews.
looks very good
Thank you!
It says Rock Solid Floor Paint is Durable, tough coating is 20 times stronger than epoxy. What is the difference between this and Epoxy? Why do people choose Epoxy over floor paint?
Ty.
Thanks.
Your "before" garage floor looks like mine. That's a LOT of work.
Wow!!!
Your bangles really nice Imran from uk
Very nice job ...
Thank you!
DYING to do this now!! Would love a 6 month and 1-year follow-up with how it's holding up. So curious
So far so good! 6+ months in!
@@AtCharlottesHouse how about now? & are you parking on it?
@@AtCharlottesHouse still holding up?
Still holding up?
What about now? It's a year later
When I worked in the Lowe's paint department, I used to explain to people that etching is somewhat similar to bleaching your hair. You have to sort of open up the seal so that you can lay something else over it and have it soak in. Additionally, the etching chemical keeps working until you rinse it off and so washing it off is super important just like leaving bleach on your hair too long.
this is a well explained video completely taking out the anxiety. How much paint is required for a 400 square feet garage?
Amazing work 🙏🏻🙏🏻 woman powers 🙏🏻🔥
Thank you!! 😊
Gurl power 💪🏾
Ms. Charlotte
👍 Well done
Excellent job
I like it and subscribed to your channel
What are the products you used first to repair the cracks the two containers you mixed up?
What is the product you used to paint your garage floor?
Please let me know
Thanks again

Thank you so much for your reviews as a professional painter it looks great!!! Any updates
So far so good! Holding up great!
how many bags of flakes did you use? doing my floor in couple weeks and am getting my stuff all together now-great job !
I really want to try this. Can you give me a update is it still good ?
Is this paint safe to use inside for a basement as well? (offgas factor/ general appropriateness...) ANd also wow and thank you so much for the incredible detailed tutorial!!
Loved the wideo. Where can I find list of items?😊
How much did this project cost? It seems less expensive than drylock paint
I could sleep on the garage floor :D and what a beautiful pegboard!!!
I've never seen those hooks and tiny shelves for pegboard. where did you get it?
moving into a new home next week and i want to do this to the garage floor. the floor is already finished with a coat of paint so do i still need to do all the etching and degreasing or would a good ole power wash suffice?
I used this product almost 10 years ago, and followed the directions to the letter. Didn’t walk on for 48 hours and the vehicles stayed outside for 7 full days. After awhile I noticed the product was lifting because of hot tires. Now I need to strip the coating off the floor by sanding then power washing. This time I will hire someone that does this for a living. Just my experience!
oh wow.............not good :/.......in detail HOW exactly DID U PREP IT?....lol?
@@theewelder That was awhile ago, but the floor was free of oil, dirt, dust and power washed with a degreaser applied before washing. The floor was absolutely dry, temperature was warm 65/75 degrees. The one thing I didn’t do was use muriatic acid as it was not necessary. Thats all I can remember. That is all the details I remember. The directions that were on the product were followed.
Yeah, acid etching doesn’t open up the pores enough. Gotta mechanically etch it
@@alanregynski8238 Most of us don’t have that kind of equipment to use. Best left to professionals to do the job instead of wasting time and money on products that only provide temporary fix. JMO
@@Digital_Photog1995 all I used was an angle grinder and a diamond blade. Cost was $50. The dust is the worst part. Turned out fine
Looks great! Thanks for the video. How has the floor held up under the weight of a parked car for more than 1 year?
unless you heat epoxy up to hi temps,or hammer it.....its pretty much bulletproof.....a very heavy wieght point of a tire will not faze it...............looks really good......oil spills...np.....mop,like new...!...this is why ALOT of ppl like this method for counter tops....but with EPOXY,marble swirls,etc....amazing...
what kind of brush did you use to etch with? Thanks
CT GANG !!!
Did you apply the epoxyshield clear high gloss after?
Hi Charlotte, how does the garage floor hold up?
As someone who does garage floor coatings for a living. I encourage you all to have a go at using this product. It's made me a lot of money over the years getting to do garage floors that have now delaminated and look worse than when the client started. Or alternatively you could save yourself a bunch of time and money and have it done one time by a professional.. the choice is yours.
Does this stuff hold up long term?
@@WayneStratton Unfortunately, no. Preparation and application is critical. My application lifted from hot tires.
Well done
Could you possibly give the references of the product
Thanks
Dom
How did you keep from getting the walls wet?
Hi I need help !!! I bought that kit as well I did it on Saturday one side of flooring I mix the paint with clear coat cane out ok . The other side I didn’t mix the clear goat with the paint so I put paint and the chips let it dry then I use a roller to add clear coating but the chips were coming off I still went ahead continue .. 3 days have gone by and that clear coat is sticky it hasn’t dry up 😢I got a wet rag to remove it, it made it worse now I have a mixture of clear coat with a lighter tone of grey and chips disappear
How can I remove the sticky coating off of it I can still see the bottom paint is still intact it’s just getting the top coat off
I use water pressure with a broom and soap 😅 I gave up !!
Any updates on how it’s held up?
May I ask please if the paint is holding up years later? I was thinking of buying this for my garage floor.
So question, since you added acid to floor did you add neautralizer to.it so you epoxy doesnt break? Also after adding filler you didnt sand it down with diamond bit.
Primer is not need for the concrete walls?
How does it look like after a year?
Congratulations on doing your garage floor by yourself, I want to start off on a positive note. However, that big box garage epoxy floor kit will not last, sorry to say but it won't. It will start peeling with in 5 years and you will have to do it all over again. The proper way to do a garage floor like yours.... is first use a grinder to rough up the concrete (etching never works as good) so the epoxy (or better yet Polyaspartic 100% Solids) will adhere to the floor better. Then you fill in the cracks and grind off the excess. After sweeping and blowing off all the dirt & dust, you then put the primer/sealant down, then your base coat of epoxy, then your flakes, and finally the clear coat epoxy/polyaspartic to finish the job. When done right, your floor could last up to 50 years or more, depending on climate.
Just a little info, I don't mean to put you or the job you did down. I just wanted to inform. Cheers!
I just laid nice grey in-out door carpet in my garage. So much easier and only $120.
However... Your garage looks amazing.
A year has gone by with your new garage floor. . . so how is your garage floor holding up?
Hi! Is it weatherproof? looking at something similar for outside kitchen concrete floor.
Seeking the same answer
Question. If there’s still paint on the floor. Do I remove that first somehow? Or can I just proceed?
You have to remove the paint or prime first!
How many kits did you use?
How is the floor holding up now?
How much did it cost you to do this project?
Is rocksolid clear is the top coat?
Hello! Can you please do a quick a 1 yearish update?
how is it holding up?
