You sure are a lot nicer than some here. Seems like some people just look for things to complain about. You took the time to tell us who what where when and why. Nice job.
Finally a CB tech who appears to know what he is talking about and uses the proper test equipment. The square wave on the scope is of course huge distortion, but I assume he sets mod correctly speaking into the mike and watching the effect.

Hi there! I read some of the comments and agree. I would like to thank Smokin Joe's Electronics 442 Built for these RUclips videos. When I was growing up there were some small bokklets around at places like Radio Shack that cost around 3 or 4 dollars to buy and there was a lot of stuff to read about CB radio and antennas. I had to find any part time job that I could, which was mostly hospitality, like restaurants and stuff, which in my humble opinion, may not have had a whole lot to do with things like decibels, watts, logarithms and such. However, I carried on. I apologize because I do not mean to think in the past or bring up the past as we move forward into a bright future and think in the present and live in the present and hope for a better tomorrow and better future. having typed all of this out. I was sort of embarrsed to keep going back to school because I did not know which course I should take to learn about decibels and logarithms and watts and such. So I registered for a physics course. It was an evening course. I plotted a chart with some other pupils and a teacher and we plotted an exponential curve! It was intersting and I knew that it is not the same as linear but that exponential is similar to logarithmic. Decibels however were not taught in the physics class at the school that I attended however from reading some pamphlets I learned that decibels are a unit of sound and that hearing is logarithmic.....! I could read information that antennas have information beside them or rated in decibels or dB's. It is interesting to read that about it and see a demonstration about it because it seems to develop more knowledge. My impression of information that I have read or read about radio and cb radio is that it looks like there is some knowledge from mathematics and some knowledge of physics and some knowledge of how that information is put together for radio work! I had a Galaxy DX99V back in the mid 1990s with a "heavy swing" swing kit in it. It had a small toggle switch in the back to turn it on or off. It was set up that way with the swing kit by the previous owner to use it in his vehicle before I got it. I used that radio as a base radio and the other CBers in the area where I lived back then used to throw a fit when I ran that radio with the swing kit on. With the swing kit turned off it was like a regular 99V and didn't bother the other Cbers as much. I did use the swing kit sometimes when I was shooting skip on AM to get an extra punch through the airwaves on stations that were far away.

No problem. Not sure exactly what you looking for. But the radios rf power knob fully counter clockwise deadkeys 2 watts and fully clockwise is at 50 watt deadkey. Radio puts out 225 peak on the bird meter. Retuned the transmitter and reciever for the cb band on band d of the band knob.

Yup! Glad to see someone post what the swing kit does. NPC Mod is the same as the swing kits I saw installed. That all said, the radios that have the preamp mods done ARE Louder. Square waves are not good but loud is good. :-)

Good coverage video. I've a question: I've recently been given a Cobra 25 LTD, without the mic. I tried my Galaxy 148's mic on it but I noticed modulation needle stays to the right as if keyed, even if mic is disconnected. I opened it up and found what appears to be a small add on circuit board. Don't know what it is, but it has a loose thin red wire. Appears to have been soldered to something but I've checked closely and cannot find a spot it would have been connected to. I'd like to know if showing you a photo of it, you might be able to help me determine what it is (echo or roger beep) and to what might the red wire go? Please let me know, thank you.

Nice job explaining clean power vs splatter. I just bought a RCI 2970N2 from Bell CB. I paid for a tune up. Nothing more. Should I be concerned? I think I’ll be sending to you for a retune.
Well I don't like to talk about others but in most cases these shops charge you for a tune and they crank things wide open..

What shops don''t you like? Can you give us a list so we do not go there? It would be super helpful. Can you tell us what a comp tune is and what work is done to say a cobra 29? Is it possible to "volt" a cobra 29?
Just purchased a connex 4600 turbo. From wallscb from eBay. He said he supertuned and align. What should I look to see if he did a good job

Sorry to say but sounds like a typical check shop hack job.. connex 4600 will only do about 159 watts clean

What you need is a good old Johnson Viking or...better yet a desk top(!) Just break the stop on the vfo bar cap and attach a small motor...that way, everybody can have the opportunity to hear you like 200 channels below and above the band. You don't want to discriminate.....

Well I see that you have Passed Away and I had never heard of you while you were alive.It appears that you were a pretty honest guy and told the Truth about the Golden Screwdriver Morons are doing to so many radios.I also see you owned the Biggest POS Amateur Radio ever built in the Kenwood TS-2000 so maybe you were not all that Smart? I know what a POS they are since I wasted my money on one as well but I had enough sense to buy Two ICOM radios to replace it.Go RIP and may God bless your family and friends.
