  • In Texas we callem SWR's although it Is a ratio and is not plural ... Lol..
    An swr analyzer is always best but if you do not have one you can use your radio to sweep the frequencies. Make sure you you a low power setting when using your radio to sweep frequencies ... www.442built.com for sales, service , and quotes use the contact tab to email ,call or text.
    All sales are final on export radios, Export radios are factory repair or exchange only.

    RIP Smokin Joe and thank you for posting this video. I finally grounded my Predator 10 k the correct way and finally got 1.1 march because of your easy instructions on rf ground. You are truly missed in the CB community

    05:35 not 100% true.. the actual wire you use from antenna to the chassis will KINDA act as a radial..KINDA, and its short depending how long a wire you use.... but the actual connecting the wire to the chassis is pointless! lol.. GOOD VIDEO well said! 40+ years experiance here and agree with you 100%

    Moder trucks have so much rubber mounts for the panels and cab, run low ohm grounding straps from frame to each panel. This gives all the panels a good dc ground, for a good ground plane.

  • @rondellschuyler7074
    @rondellschuyler7074 5 лет назад

    I see this problem on newer dump trucks. The mirror mounts, the mirror arms are made out of mostly plastic. When they hard mount a antenna ( example sirio antennae) with a high power ranger,N2,N4 or 63ffb4 the SWR is waaay too high. Requires a good grounding strap or heavy 6 gauge wire mounted to antennae and truck frame or firewall.

    I think you got your info mixed up at one point 9:07 but you know what's correct but you might have confused a few viewers. I know it's tough to make sure everything comes out right while making a video but you might need to scrutinise your commentary before you publish the video or add a correction. But you do help some operators and thats a positive result. Good job.

    I have a question for you. I get a 1.0 to 1.2 across 40 ch. with firestick on 2015 389 pete mirror bars. 1.0 on ch 15- 25. Great match. When I try to install a wilson 2000 on it jumps from 5-7 on swr. Same mount, same location. The same on several locations on the mirror bars. Thats a wilson straight from new package. Tried 5” and 10” shaft. It will not adjust lower than 5.0 on swr. Using radio meter and dosy base station meter. The same. Any ideas on what it could be? Or does my anytone at-6666 just does not like a good antenna?

      Ok. I got this wilson figured out. Directions on package state 49.25 inch of whip for 27.205. Then fine tune from there. I installed antenna and bottomed out whip. Like i have always done wilson antennas. This give me 5.5 on ch 1, 7 on ch 40. I was flipping through freq. seen swr was close on 25..... That tells me its wrong length for freq. I started clipping 1 inch at a time until I got it 1.3 on ch 1, 1.3 on ch 40. And 1.2 on all other ch in between. 8 inches removed from factory whip that came in package. Last inch I took off so I could adjust in slider for fine tune. I have never seen this much clipping on a wilson. But matched now and tested. All good to go. Unsure if you have ran in to this with wilsons.

    So, I have a CB in my Chevy. The antenna is mounted to the face of the toolbox towards the tailgate and I have a 12Ga wire to the frame because that's what I was told to do. When I connect my SWR meter, my readings are CH1-1.1, CH40-3+. The radio's meter reads the same. When I take the external meter out of line, the radio reads CH1-1.5 Ch19-1.0 Ch40-1.4. Only reason I could think of is that the cable is radiating RF and adding the meter obviously changes the "effective" antenna length. Am I fine or do I have a problem? Should I reground the antenna to the bed and tie the bed and cab together?

    I got a galaxy 98vhp . Running a through roof Wilson 1000. One i turn up the dead key past 30 watts my swr goes for 1.2. To like 1.7. For kicks I hooked up one of my HF rigs and transmitted 100 watt cw carrier perfect 1.1 1.2 swr. What could be the issue with the galaxy

    • @smokinjoeselectronics442bu7
      @smokinjoeselectronics442bu7  5 лет назад

      The Galaxy is miss aligned. It is producing harmonic content and IMD which means it's transmitting on frequencies other than the channel your on out side of the CB band. Your antenna is not tuned for those frequencies so the power gets reflected back into your radio . If you wish to send it in for service go to www.442built.com and use the contact tab.

    Getting both 10m/CB and VHF/UHF (144/444) units installed next week, at local CB shop, only one in the entire region, and they seem unsure about the HAM unit, being unable to tune without as they say “we don’t have equipment to tune at vhf/uhf frequencies” - They typically only deal with CB/10 m. To verify their install (2units, 2 antenna) do I need a tuner, or just a wattmeter as shown in video? The intended antenna is a 2m/70cm by design. I’m new to all this and no ham shops of any kind within 300 miles.

    Greetings from Western Canada! You must be telling the truth because you're left handed lol. (One lefty to another.) I've just ordered my first brand new CB radio since my first one back in 1976 when I was just 17 years old! I'll be installing a President Mckinley 40ch. Sideband with a 5ft. Fire Stik and 9ft. coax from the front left hood rail on our Town & Country Mini Van! I haven't informed my wife of my executive decision yet! I hope she's out shopping when my package comes in the mail this Friday July 17th, 2020 ha! Then when it's late and she's sound asleep, I'll do a quick install! Hopefully she'll never notice anything out of the ordinary! 🤯 The only ones that know of my plan are our three small grandchildren! 😅🤣😂😭 Mercy' Lamplighter XM12-31113 on the side wall to wall tree top tall - over, back to you! I'd make sure you didn't go out and buy some cheap coax. Your signal "sees" the metal of the vehicle through the "cheap" coax and it's reflected back, causing bad SWR readings. Buy the best coax you can buy, no matter what you are using it for.
