Maybe I’ll try doing that. I really like the diamond mount. I don’t have to do anything to it other than making sure the grommet screws touch the metal of the hatchback. Sure I might not be able to get 40 m, 20 m works out OK

Hey thanks a ton for making this video - really appreciate it. I'm not sure though, about the shunt and the two cables/wires that have the holes that connect the coax ground to the mount/vehicle ground -- how did you make that, or where did you get it? Is that something we can get that's generic, or how would I mimic what you did? Cheers, Rich K5OBJ
The cable with the two holes, that you can buy separately at a ham radio store, it is already made for you. As for the shunt to be more specific it is a shunt matching network: This involves the use of a network of inductors and capacitors to create a parallel or shunt circuit at the feed point of the antenna. This network can be adjusted to change the effective electrical length of the antenna, which in turn changes its resonant frequency and impedance characteristics - meaning that the antenna will resonate better for the antenna is short. My situation is unique for the hatch back of my Outback, good to deep into the bumper, and thus I had to take apart a comet mount and scrape the paint so I can get an electrical connection to the car. Many use a braided cable to connect the comet mount to the car. When I had my other car, I used a Diamond K400 Mount - bet mount you can get - but that didn't work on my new car. Can you just run a copper ground strap from your car frame or something grounded to the base of the antenna where it screws into the into the mount?
You can trim the tab from the diamond and would fit like the comet.

@@rgbking488 Super. FYI, that shunt is used primarily for my screwdriver antenna, and doesn't have to be used for the Diamond HF20CL. Good luck.
